Drop Off and Pick Up Procedures

Morning Drop Off

• Admission to the building begins at 8:00 a.m.

o Before School Program is until 8:30 a.m.

• For safety, parents should use the drop off lanes.

• You may park and escort your children to the main doors.

o Do not park in disabled reserved spots unless you have a pass.

o Intermediate parents use the adjacent Paul Coffey parking lot.

• The morning busses will drop off directly to the main doors

• Staff will welcome them at the front door as they arrive.

Drop Off and Pick Up Procedures

Afternoon Pick Up

• Bus students are dismissed at 3:20 p.m.

• For students K-4, staff will escort students to the bus.

o Students in grades 5-6 students are responsible for arriving to their bus on time.

• All busses depart at 3:30 p.m.

• For all other students, afternoon dismissal is from 3:30 p.m.-4:00p.m.

• Families will receive a QR code that be scanned, and the link bookmarked to your phone where an arrival form is filled.

o Park and walk to the main office doors (Primary-Junior) or the basketball court (Intermediates), to await your child.

After

School Program Info & Procedures

• Registration is not required.

• Students transfer to After School Program at 4:00 PM if not picked up.

o Whenever possible, After School Program will happen outdoors with some grades on the basketball court and some grades in the back play yard.

• Parents may pick up from these locations.

o When there are poor weather conditions, the After School Program will be held in the cafeteria.

o Parents may buzz the front door for access to the school to pick up their child at the cafeteria.

• After School program runs from 4:00 PM-5:00 PM.

• Please advise the school by phone if you experience an unforeseen delay that prevents you from arriving by 5:00 PM.

Homework

• Homework reinforces the concepts and skills learned during lessons. It helps develop essential skills such as time management skills, organization  and responsibility.

• Newton’s Grove provides homework folders for Junior School students. Middle School students will check Edsby each day for their homework assignments. Middle school students may choose to bring their own agendas to record homework if they prefer.

o Homework folders provide a structured way for students to stay organized and are a communication tool between home and school. Parents must sign folder each evening .

• Homework will also be posted daily on Edsby homepages.

• Homework varies by grade:

 In Grades 1-6, homework increases by approximately 10 minutes per grade (e.g., 10 minutes in grade 1, 20 minutes in grade 2, etc.,).

 In Grades 6-8, students spend approximately 60 minutes per evening on homework.

 Homework may include project work and studying for tests and quizzes.

 All students are strongly encouraged to read for enjoyment on a nightly basis.

Technology Use

• All students in Grades 4-12 require a laptop and are responsible for its care.

• No student from JK- Grade 8 are permitted to use a cellphone while in the care of the school.

o All cellphones must be turned off and stored in lockers.

o We strongly advise against sending students with cellphones or other technology (e.g., iPads, tablets)

• Students are solely responsible for damaged or lost items.

All students K-8 require a pair of black “leather or “leather-look” black dress shoes. Black running shoes are permitted, but must be black in its entirety (i.e., shoe outsoles, shoelaces, etc.). Students also require a pair of indoor shoes and a pair of outdoor running shoes.
