Newton’s Grove has a commitment to quality education that supports all students in their learning journey. Delivering quality summer school programming aligns directly with that commitment. This year, we are thrilled to announce that we are offering summer school courses in both in-person and online learning formats. Online summer learning allows students and families flexibility, while also being enrolled in a course that facilitates direct quality instruction. Both in-person and online learning allow students to have organic class discussions, foster community and friendship, and allow students to build strong relationships with their teachers.

Taking summer courses at Newton’s Grove School, no matter the delivery, ensures that students’ credits are received from their homeschool. This looks advantageous on a student’s transcript when it comes time for post-secondary applications. Keeping all credits with one institution shows continuity and commitment to excellent learning.

Online Delivery Model

Students will receive direct instruction on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 9am to 12pm. From 12pm-3:30 pm, students will be working independently or in groups on tasks assigned by the teachers. Wednesday and Friday will be fully asynchronous with students working on specific academic tasks.

This program is built for students in grade JK-6 of all skill levels. Campers will be grouped by age to provide age-appropriate activities, and a fun and safe environment. Everyday offers the perfect mix of game play and skill work to ensure young athletes are always challenged. The schedule will be a mix of sports, co-operative games, outdoor play, and exciting activities based on the camper's interests. Utilizing all the Newton’s Grove campus has to offer, each camper will participate in activities both outdoors (soccer field, baseball diamond, the playground and nature walks) and inside (classrooms, basketball court, art room and dance studio). Campers will work on running, jumping, catching, throwing, kicking, dodging, balancing, and playing, through fun practices and games.

This program focuses on developing basic academic skills while helping students adjust to full day schooling and structured activities. Emphasis is placed on early literacy and introductory mathematics. The academic portion is balanced with recreational activities including visual arts, physical education, and co-operative group activities. Academic and social skills will be further developed. This program aims to foster in the students a love of learning and an understanding of their own academic and creative potential. Students will also participate in an “active bodies” program for a portion of the day.

Build your Skills: Grade 1 and 2 Full Day (Reg Code: AD2)

This program builds upon the skills learned in Senior Kindergarten and Grade 1. Through reading, writing and arithmetic skills, students are further prepared for entry into Grades 1 and 2. The morning session focuses on mathematics, fluency in oral reading, and reading comprehension. Students will also participate in an “active bodies” program for a portion of the day.

Music: Concert Band (Reg Code: AM1)

ONE OF OUR SIX MORNING CAMP OPTIONS: AM1-AM6 AND ONE OF OUR FOUR AFTERNOON CAMP OPTIONS: PM1-PM4 WE GIVE YOU THE FLEXIBILITY TO CHOOSE!

This program is a one- month program intended for students who have at least one year of band or solo experience. While focusing on improving their technique and tone, students work on jazz, popular, and advanced band repertoire. Students also play in small ensembles and work on solo repertoire! This program is very beneficial as previous students have ended up being top music students in the school’s music program, playing in Senior Bands, the Jazz band, and successfully auditioning for programs outside of the school such as: Toronto Youth Wind Orchestra, Ontario Provincial Honour Band, and Carnegie Hall Performance Series. The Concert Band program finishes with a Final Performance Concert at the end of week four.

Academic Upgrading (Reg Code: AM2)

This program focuses on each student’s individual learning goals. The student’s learning needs will be assessed, and an ‘Individual Learning Plan’ will be designed. Emphasis will be placed on upgrading reading, writing and math skills.

Academic Enrichment (Reg Code: AM3)

This program is designed to enrich academic ability. Students will be provided with opportunities to apply their knowledge and skills to higher level tasks, including critical thinking, communication and problem solving.

Outdoor Explorers (Reg Code: AM4)

This program is designed to allow participants an opportunity to gain an appreciation for their natural environments and build a better understanding of how humanity has learned to live with and within nature. Activities include orienteering, identifying edible plants and berries, knot tying, and so much more!

ESL Immersion and Camp Program (Reg Code: AM5)

The morning program is designed to improve each student’s accuracy when using the English language. Students will develop the ability to use oral and written English for daily needs, acquire conversation skills and vocabulary, and improve sentence patterns. Students will also acquire basic orientation information related to their needs as newcomers to Canada.

As a natural extension of science, technology, engineering, and math, this program is designed to keep students engaged in a fun, interactive learning environment. This program encompasses a range of outdoor and indoor activities, including interactive scientific experiments and engineering-based building projects.

Grades 3-8 Camp: Afternoon Session Options

Music: Beginner Band (Reg Code: PM1)

This exciting introduction to playing an instrument is a one-month program for students wanting to get a head start on the Grade 5 Instrumental Program, new students coming into the school wanting to learn an instrument for the Music Program, or anyone just wanting to learn a new instrument! Students learn to read music and play their instruments through hands-on instruction. Many of these students end up playing in bands 1 or 2 years ahead of their grade level! The program ends with a Final Performance at the end of week four!

Summer Visual Arts Camp (Reg Code: PM2)

This program is designed to introduce and further develop each student’s visual arts skills and awareness. Students will have the opportunity to build and improve their artistic knowledge and skills through hands-on instruction. There will be an emphasis on a variety of media, such as arts and crafts, drawing, painting, printmaking, etching, and sculpture.

STEM Camp 2 (Reg Code: PM3)

As a natural extension of science, technology, engineering, and math, this program is designed to keep students engaged in a fun, interactive learning environment. This program includes a range of outdoor and indoor activities, emphasizing robotics and coding.

Sports Camp (Reg Code: PM4)

This exciting program is designed to further develop athletic skills while promoting sportsmanship, leadership, and self-confidence. This year, the program will focus primarily on multi-sport skill development, group cooperation activities, court and field sports, and personal fitness.

Nike Basketball Camp at Newton's Grove is for young athletes who want to learn the fundamentals of basketball and improve their skills. Players can expect to further develop their on-court athleticism in a fun, competitive and engaging environment. Our camp is open to athletes aged 8-14 years old. Scott Wheler and the Nike Basketball Camp staff are ready to help campers improve their game, make friends and play without limits!

These full-day and half-day camps are a concentrated experience, designed to accelerate the learning process through outstanding instruction, skill development, situational training, and competition simulation. Participants learn to improve their footwork, dribbling, passing, and shooting through exciting drills, games and activities..

The Newton's Grove campus boasts a brand-new basketball court overlooked by a state-of-the-art running track, along with a weight room, yoga room, outdoor basketball court and ample natural outdoor spaces (weather permitting).

This exciting Nike Soccer Camp at Newton’s Grove is for young athletes aged 8-14 who want to improve their skills and have fun doing it. Each camper will work on developing the techniques and fundamentals of soccer through specialized age-appropriate drills and game-based play. Each day features a new technique to help campers at all levels develop their soccer skills. Nike Soccer Camp at Newton’s Grove includes instruction from experienced soccer coaches who will provide campers with tools to improve their ball control and passing, gain more confidence attacking and defending, and continue to learn more about the beautiful game of soccer.
