Leavell College prepares servants to walk with Christ, proclaim His truth, and fulfill His mission.

Christ calls us to servanthood. With His attitude as our model, we strive to set pride and personal gain aside and instead look for opportunities to put others first.

DEVOTION

Our passion is to follow Christ. Because He alone is worthy of devotion and because we are helpless without Him, our goal is to follow Him with abandon.

TRUTH

Doctrine and theology matter. Believing scripture is God’s word and that Truth is found within, we carefully examine the scriptures knowing prayerful study is an act of worship.

MISSION

Advancing God’s kingdom is our goal. Whether at home or abroad, we desire to take the gospel to the darkest places and shine the light of Jesus, and then watch as God unfolds His kingdom.

This is how we are answering god’s call.

The Legacy of Leavell College SINCE 1917, NOBTS has helped men

and women answer God’s call by providing graduate-level ministry training. In 1976, NOBTS expanded its offerings to include undergraduate studies. The undergraduate program was later named Leavell College in honor of the Leavell family, a family whose impact on the school and God’s kingdom has been tremendous.

Today, Leavell College’s enrollment includes 1,400 students from all parts of the globe. While our student body represents diverse backgrounds and cultures, we are unified in seeking to impact the world for Christ. Not only are our professors deeply-committed educators, they are passionate ministers of the gospel, and our graduates carry that same passion with them as they take the message of Jesus to a dying world.

Why Leavell College?

SPOTLIGHT: DR. STRONG

DEAN, LEAVELL COLLEGE

I AM CONSTANTLY ASKED what makes Leavell College unique. Having been a part of

Leavell College for over 25 years, I have had the opportunity to watch the school be formed and grow into the college we know today. Let me enumerate a few of those matters which make us unique. Leavell College is unique in that every person who attends the college comes as a result of a call by God upon his/her life. Our calling is to train and encourage those who are following God into life. These callings range from being called to ministry in the local church, missions around the world, or the marketplace. As a result, we are unique in that our curriculum is designed specifically for ministry and fulfilling God’s call. We are focused upon “preparing servants to walk with Christ, proclaim His truth, and fulfill His mission.” Every course is focused upon this mission. Each professor is equally focused upon this mission, both in life and in teaching. Our faculty is composed of academically qualified men and women who have a calling to teach and minister at Leavell College. They are a part of our faculty because they felt God’s leading in their lives. The classroom experience is much more than academics, though it is certainly academically challenging. In each class meeting, an anticipation exists of God using the time together to sharpen our skills and to encourage our walk with Him. Yes, our students will learn English composition, Greek grammar, and ministry skills for example, but they will be challenged to develop a life of faithfulness to God. Another aspect of uniqueness is found in our community. We are a group of disciples—faculty, students, and staff. We all recognize that we are on a journey and we recognize a dependency upon one another. You’ll find us interacting in the coffee shop and praying with each other in the office. Our city also makes us unique. No better place to do ministry and to learn ministry exists than New Orleans. You’ll be exposed to many cultures and religions in our city. You’ll discover the challenge of church ministry in a city where followers of Christ are a minority. In the process, our students will leave prepared for ministry wherever God calls. Finally, Leavell College is based upon the premise that God isn’t finished yet. He isn’t finished working in our lives, in our churches and ministries, and in our city. That conviction drives us to work towards excellence in all we do as we live for His honor.

LIFE IN NEW ORLEANS NEW ORLEANS IS ONE OF THE MOST DYNAMIC AND BEAUTIFUL CITIES IN THE WORLD.

FOUNDED IN 1718, our city is famous

for its great food, unique culture, rich history, and vibrant communities.

As a major port city, New Orleans is home to people from across the globe, but only a small minority identify as evangelical Christians. This is one of the many reasons NOLA is a NAMB Send City, an epicenter of efforts to plant new churches. New Orleans is an incredible place to learn and do ministry. The unique setting provides you with ample opportunity to gain real-world experience while you study. If you can learn to minister to the poor, broken, and needy here, you will be prepared for wherever God takes you next.

Jim and Elisabeth worked among the unreached Waodani deep in the Ecuadorian jungle. Initial contact seemed promising, but the Waodani soon attacked and killed Jim. However, Elisabeth and her daughter continued to faithfully work among the Waodani, leading many to come to Christ and sparking a resurgence in missionary efforts around the globe.

Dietrich Bonhoeffer stood for truth in the midst of one of the cruelest regimes in history. As a young pastor during the rise of Nazi Germany, Bonhoeffer called for complete obedience to Christ. Because of his defiance of Hitler and the Nazi party, Bonhoeffer was imprisoned and executed just before the fall of Nazi Germany.

Few missionaries have had the global impact of Charlotte “Lottie” Moon. While tirelessly serving the Chinese people, Lottie wrote to encourage others to join Christ’s mission by giving and going. Lottie died among the people she served, inspiring the annual Lottie Moon Christmas Offering, which has raised over 1.5 billion for missions since 1888.

Bonhoeffer House continues the legacy of Bonhoeffer’s dedication to truth ― no matter the cost.

In the spirit of Lottie Moon, Moon House joins Christ in his mission ― no matter the cost.

Elliot House carries on the Elliots’ legacy of devotion to Christ ― no matter the cost.

Affordable Ministry Preparation LEAVELL COLLEGE works to make ministry training as affordable as possible. Financial Aid is available for full-time on-campus students. Our scholarships are need-based rather than merit-based, so the vast majority of our students receive some financial assistance each semester. Find out which scholarships you are eligible for at leavellcollege.com/financialaid.

In addition to Financial Aid scholarships, Leavell College students may be eligible for financial assistance from the Caskey Center and TOPS. CASKEY CENTER SCHOLARSHIPS

TOPS

If you serve as paid staff at a smaller SBC church in Louisiana, Mississippi, or Alabama during your time at Leavell College, you may be eligible for a full-tuition scholarship. The Caskey Center provides scholarships for paid ministers in Southern Baptist churches that have 250 or fewer worship attendees (Louisiana) or 150 or fewer in worship (Mississippi/ Alabama). Recipients must first interview for the scholarship and are held accountable to engage in regular personal evangelism.

Although Leavell College does not accept Federal loans, we do accept Louisiana TOPS scholarships. If you are a graduate of a Louisiana High School and are a TOPS recipient, contact the Financial Aid Office to notify them of your status.
