COSCHEM HOSTED ITS inaugural household formulation practical workshop on 29 September to support its members on the technical ins and outs of formulating standard home care products. Gillian Kuhn from Evonik Africa and Liezanne van der Walt, a consultant to Juniper Cosmetics shared their knowledge on how to develop products such as dishwashing liquid, washing powder, fabric softener and thick bleach technology. The workshop was well attended by young minds, who were keen to learn about the home care side of the industry. A vast amount of practical tips were shared such as the temperature at which a fabric softener should be manufactured and how to avoid separation caused by cold weather in a dishwashing liquid formulation. Kuhn and Van der Walt hope to make this a repeat event for those who missed the first workshop and agreed it was really a ‘pleasure to share practical knowledge about a very important industry segment that does not receive the recognition it deserves in today’s world’.
