MERCURY EXPOSURE DURING AMALGAM FILLING REMOVAL

Dr. Shvartsman

Dr. Golan

Most people are not aware that the black metal fillings often called "silver fillings" contain 55% mercury. Since a substance is identified by its major constituent, these metal amalgam fillings should be correctly called "mercury dental fillings.” While chronic mercury exposure occurs during chewing, heating (food and beverages) or acid attack (food and beverages) and dramatically increases during tooth bleaching or whitening, it is during the removal of these fillings that the patient is exposed to the most mercury

vapor. Mercury vapor is easily inhaled during mercury filling removal and ionizes at below room body temperature. It is the ionized mercury vapor that is fat-soluble and therefore easily penetrates the lipid cell membrane of human cells as well as fatty tissues such as nerves and the brain. A recent study reported the following eight findings: 1. The dust is almost immediately absorbed into the blood stream as shown by immediate increases detected by measuring the blood mercury content. 2. The heart receives extremely high levels of mercury within minutes after exposure. Eighty one times higher than the control level. 3. The brain and liver reach their very highest levels of mercury at 16 hours post exposure. Both these levels were approximately 7 times higher than controls. 4. The heart, liver, brain and kidney concentrate mercury from the blood. 5. The lungs and heart mercury levels decrease rapidly up to 32 hours and them more slowly through the duration of the experiment. 6. The brain and liver mercury levels decrease rapidly from their high at 16 hours through 32 hours and then slowly for the 72 hour duration of the experiment. 7. The kidney mercury level rises slowly throughout the duration of the experiment and contains a very high level of 22.93 micrograms at 72 hours. 8. None of the tissues analyzed had returned to the control levels by the end of 72 hours. These findings support the need to protect patients from harmful mercury vapor exposure. Wellness-focused individuals may want to seek a dentist, like Dr. Shvartsman who follows the IAOMT protocol to reduce their exposure to harmful mercury vapor. In fact, Dr. Shvartsman is the only dentist on Long Island who is accredited by the IAOMT amalgam removal protocol. THE PROCESS: The teeth to be treated are isolated with a latex-free rubber dam since latex allows mercury vapor to pass trough it. Nitrile rubber dams must be used to ensure your safety. The use of the rubber dam is important to contain the amalgam debris and its harmful vapor during the removal process. Patients are given 100% oxygen via a special

nose hood to protect the patient from inhaling mercury vapor, which is generated in high amounts during drilling. Dr. Shvartsman carefully sections the filling in large chunks therefore minimizing the pulverization (drilling) of the amalgam and thus reducing the vaporization of the mercury. This process is called "chunking". Copious amounts of water is used to cool the drill and amalgam dust thereby reducing the vaporization of the mercury. The high-speed suction is placed next to the filling being removed in order to remove the water, amalgam particles, mercury and the suction off the mercury vapor. A saliva ejector is placed under the nitrile rubber dam next to the area where the filling is being removed. This adds an extra level of protection to suction any vapor that may sneak past the rubber dam and is now on the inside of the mouth. The saliva ejector and the fact that the patient is instructed to breath only from the nose are some of the precautions the IAOMT recommends to counter this possible problem. Following the procedure, the mouth is rinsed with copious amounts of cool water and all amalgam dust and particles are suctioned out. Each treatment room is equipped with an independent HEPA air filtration system that also has an ionizer to remove the mercury and other heavy metals that have escaped into the room and bacteria-killing UV system. For further protection, disposable tinted glasses are worn by the patient to keep any debris, especially amalgam, from accidentally getting into the eyes. In addition, each patient is covered with a full body drape in order to minimize the mercury contamination on their clothes. Dental offices are the second most source of mercury contamination of the environment. To keep our environment safe, Dr. Shvartsman has installed an ISO certified Mercury Waste Water Separator to keep mercury from the dental office water lines from being dumped into the public water system. Many patients are concerned about the health ramifications of mercury fillings in their mouth. They understand that mercury toxicity is cumulative and it may decades for major symptoms to occur. Removing dental amalgam form teeth can expose the patient to much higher levels of mercury in a short period of time. It would behoove the health-minded individual to seek out dentists that fully comply with the IAOMT protocol. CHRONIC FATIGUE: The Illness That Doesn’t Exist by Dr. Howard Robins Have you been told by your doctor that it’s “just in your head” “there’s nothing really wrong with you”? You’re sure it’s not from working out in the gym (you may probably stopped going anyway) or even the stress from your job or at home. You may have even gone to the doctor who did many tests but they came back with nothing unusual to report. Everything was ruled out so the doctor said “ there’s nothing wrong with you” and implied that you were “making it up”. But, it’s just not normal to be this tired! You’re so tired at night you now go to sleep early, most every day. You sleep 8 to 12 hours and still wake up tired or even exhausted. This is not the way it was but it’s been this way for a while and now lasted for many months. It has begun to affect your work or school and even your social activity. While almost everyone experiences fatigue from time to time this is not like anything you’ve ever experienced before. You have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. The CDC says that over one million American women, men and children suffer from it with the numbers growing! The Diagnosis: Does this sound like you? Have you felt generally "unwell" for three months or longer? Can you still do most or all of the physical and mental activities you did before you began feeling unwell? Has your illness had a major impact on work, social, and/or educational activities, to the extent that you have had to make adjustments in your lifestyle in an effort to avoid relapsing or becoming more ill? Do you have at least four (4) of the following eight (8) symptoms? • Weakness and exhaustion, lasting more than 24 hours, following mental or physical activity • Un-refreshing sleep • Substantial impairment of short-term memory or concentration • Muscle pain • Pain in the joints, without swelling or redness • Headaches of a new type, pattern or severity • Tender or swollen armpit and/or neck lymph nodes • Sore throat(s) Did your feelings of un-wellness begin suddenly, within a period of hours or a couple of days? If this seems close at all, then read on. More about the Symptoms Along with un-refreshing sleep in addition to the symptoms above, the most common symptoms may be problems focusing or brain “cloudyness or fog”; generalized muscle pain (fibromyalgia); a feeling of malaise, after almost any exertion; irritable bowel (diarrhea or constipation); depression or anxiety; chills and night sweats; or new food, odor or chemical sensitivities. What’s causing it?

While the CDC and doctors say the cause(s) are unknown, alternative physicians have directly linked it to the Epstein-Barr Virus (Mononucleosis), Herpes 6 Virus, Candidiasis, Lyme Disease (possibly undiagnosed from false negative tests) and Cytomeglavirus. Believe it or not, you could have one or even several of these infections causing the illness! Whatever the cause is it needs to be fixed to make the fatigue stop and get your life back again. So what’s the answer, how can I fix it? The “traditional” doctors most likely offered no real help. If they gave you pharmaceutical medicine it didn’t help or maybe made things worse. Even the “alternative” doctors who gave you vitamins orally and intravenously, herbs, acupuncture, etc. only helped a little or for just a short time. Well please don’t give up hope! For those of you who are still suffering the answer is Intravenous Medical Ozone Therapy. You might be surprised to know that this proven, safe, but unusual medical treatment has been used worldwide in over 50 countries for many years (70), by over 45,000 physicians and therapists to successfully treat this and many other diseases and illnesses. So why haven’t you heard about it and why doesn’t your doctor know anything about it? Believe it or not, medical ozone is a gas that’s made by a medical ozone machine (it can neither be stored, bottled, or put in capsules) so it’s not patentable, thus the drug companies can’t make money from it. They, along with the FDA, have successfully suppressed its use as they control the medical media. Organizations like the American Academy of Ozonotherapy(AAO) and the International Association of Ozone in Healthcare and Dentistry(IAOHD) are now organizing and teaching doctors in our country how to use this “miracle medicine” to help sufferers overcome this and other diseases and conditions that have been virtually untreatable. So, you no longer have to suffer this debilitating illness! More information about this amazing, safe and effective treatment is available at www.ozoneuniversity.com and on a fabulous DVD documentary with over 40 patient testimonials called “Ozone Therapy: The Miracle Medicine” by Gary Null, PhD., available from www.garynull.com.

HEALING ACNE I have noticed in practice that there is still a resistance to properly treating acne. If it is a young person's acne, then I have often found that usually one of the parents look at this process as a normal part of childhood that will in some way build character. So let’s have a look at acne and see if this attitude about acne makes sense. At different ages our hormones change. This happens throughout life. One key difference in teenage acne is that the level of testosterone increase in boys and girls. This leads to a slight change in the oils released by the skin. This slight change in skin oils make it much easier for bacteria to grow. Acne is created when bacteria grows in these oil glands which then become inflamed, infected and require that the body recruit more white blood cells. This infected oil gland with bacteria and white blood cells becomes the typical pimple that creates acne. The deeper in the skin this processes happens, the more likely that the underling support system of the skin will be damaged and create an uneven surface that leads to acne scarring. Even if the surface is physically smooth, there can be temporary, long term, or permanent discoloration. At its core, acne represents a failed immune response. Bacteria should never be able to grow on the skin to such an extent that it invades oil glands. Additionally, the most destructive parts of the immune response should not be required to heal a superficial infection taking place on the skin. This is key to remember; acne shows you that the immune system is not working properly. Acne should no more be considered a normal part of childhood than chronic diarrhea. I would no more leave acne untreated than I would recommend leaving a child with pneumonia untreated. The presence of a weak immune system has never been shown to my knowledge to build character. I would be more likely to make the alternate argument. What I have seen in my practice is that healthy people are just as likely to be kind, considerate and a pleasure to be around. The reports that I get consistently is that when people go from feeling sick to feeling healthy, they enjoy their life more and that others enjoy them more. Healthy people are more likely to enjoy what they are doing, and to enjoy the people that they are with more. I have never met anyone that asked me to make them sick again because they were more insightful or

AUGUST 2013

by Steve Nenninger

appreciative when they were sick. The people around the sick people that I work with have also never asked for their loved one to be made sick again for the insights to be gained from the state of sickness. Because I spent a lot of my life sick, I don't have much patience for these faulty arguments. In my opinion, the only acceptable level of acne at any age is none in the same way that the only acceptable level of lung or digestive infection is none. The first outbreak in a child or adult should be a sign that something is out of balance in the immune system. Luckily, this condition is very motivating to people that have an aesthetic consciousness and want to have beautiful skin. In case you are struggling with this, let me tell you the pieces that have to be in place to have beautiful skin. Most importantly you must find out which foods you have allergies to. There are three food allergy systems that the body has. There is the shortterm allergy, this is also called an IgE allergy and is tested for by your medical doctor with a blood draw. Then, there is the medium food allergy which takes place over a week, this is also known as an IgA allergy. Then there is the allergy that takes place over a month, this is also know as the IgG allergy. To my knowledge the medium and long-term allergies are best tested through a finger stick and lab analysis. We have done many of these tests. These allergens are important because when you eat your food allergens then two things happen. You will get immune system suppression as the immunes system goes off in the wrong direction to fight the allergen. Remember, an allergy is when your body treats a harmless protein as if it were a bacteria. The other thing that happens when you eat your allergens is that the body becomes inflammatory. Remember that acne created by both inflammation and immune system suppression. Inflammation open the tight shield that protects our skin from bacteria. The next thing to do to have beautiful skin is to eat according to your blood type. Each blood type has a different reason for acne. Blood type O is most likely to have an allergic acne, blood type B is most likely to have hormonal acne, blood type A is likely to have stress induced acne and blood type AB is most likely to have acne due to bacteria. Bacteria likes to try and hide from our system by looking like us. Blood type AB gives the body a couple of different disguises that is can use to sneak by the immune system.

Your Child Was Diagnosed with Celiac Disease -A Back to School Survival Guide First of All, Take a Deep Breath… Your child is resilient, smart, and strong! You can empower them to make the right choices and learn how living gluten-free isn’t really that different at all. Know that it’s okay to feel helpless as a parent in the beginning. It’s okay to go through an “I blame myself” phase. But then you dust off your boots and realize that you and your child can totally do this. The most wonderful part of it all is that your child is healthy and thriving! Reach Out to the School: There’s a saying that “it takes a village to raise a child.” This is so true! There are several people to contact at your child’s school: 1. School Nurse – set up a meeting with the school nurse. Alert them to the fact that your child needs to be 100% gluten-free. Find out what protocol is in place for children with food allergies or intolerances. Ask if there is a gluten-free or food allergy support group within the school. 2. Classroom Teacher – your child’s teacher is a key component to keeping the school year running smoothly. If birthdays are celebrated in the classroom, request a class listing of all birthdays to make sure you have a gluten-free treat sent in on that day. Keep gluten-free snacks and desserts in the nurse’s office so your child can pick one up anytime there is a gluten-filled celebration. 3. Room Parents – if your school has “Room Parents” who oversee special activities and holiday celebrations, contact them. Explain about your child’s need to be gluten-free. Ask them for details on all planned activities that will involve food. When a class party is scheduled, volunteer to make cupcakes (gluten-free of course). The gluten-eating kids are none the wiser and your child will be able to have the exact same treat that everyone else enjoys. 4. Cafeteria Staff – many schools offer gluten-free lunch menus such as gluten-free pizza, pasta, and grilled chicken. This was fantastic news; however, it’s very important to make sure the cafeteria staff are knowledgeable of the risk of cross contamination. Set up a time to visit with the cafeteria supervisor and tour the kitchen. See how the gluten-free food is handled and prepared. If your school doesn’t have a specific gluten-free menu, ask if you can review the food labels with the cafeteria staff to see if there is anything gluten-free available. Be sure to check the snack and ice cream options as well. Prepping your child on what they can safely buy in the cafeteria is an excellent way to empower them. 5. Art Teacher – Who knew that some art supplies contain gluten? In addition to play doh, several items used in art class contain gluten. Paper mache is tra-

ditionally made using flour. Work with your child’s art teacher to find out how the paper mache is made and if it is made in the classroom (imagine a classroom filled with airborne gluten!). Many times, pasta is used for sensory play or art projects in pre-school and kindergarten classes. Stay informed of what the children will be doing – an ounce of prevention can eliminate your child getting sick. Follow Up: Keeping in touch with the school and any staff who are in contact with your child is key. Build a good rapport with them. An important part of that relationship is giving credit where credit is due. If your child’s teacher, school nurse, or any other school member was helpful in your child’s transition to gluten-free at the school, let the Principal know you appreciated this assistance. Want to Learn More? The New Jersey Gluten & Allergen Free Expo will take place on September 7th – 8th at the Meadowlands Expo Center in Secaucus, New Jersey. Tickets can be purchased in advance (www.gfafexpo.com) or at the door. Use the ad on the back cover of this magazine to get a $1 off admission price. All of the vendors are 100 percent gluten-free and many will also showcase products free of the top eight allergens: milk, egg, peanut, tree nut, fish, shellfish, soy and wheat. The Expo will include a dedicated area featuring nutfree products. The Gluten & Allergen Free Expo features over 150 vendors sampling and selling products. The Expo also showcases personal care products, vitamins and supplements, and green household cleaning alternatives. Allergen savvy health care practitioners will be available to answer medical questions. There are more than 15 million Americans on a gluten-free diet and most are still searching for the best products available. “The GFAF Expo is like a giant shopping mall for people with food allergies. One of the biggest complaints is that many of the restricted diet products don’t taste good or that they are so expensive. The GFAF Expo allows everyone to taste the products before they make a purchase,” says GFAF Expo Founder and CEO, Jen Cafferty. Guests can attend free lectures, connect with gluten and allergen-free restaurants, associated non-profits, and much more. Classes include “GlutenFree Baking 101,” “Safely Eat Out & Travel – Gluten and Allergy-Free,” and “Converting a Gluten-Based Recipe to Gluten-Free.” CORRECTION: On page 8 of the July 2013 issue, the headline read: “The Gluten Free Allergy Free Expo is Coming September 7-8th!” The correct name of the expo is “The Gluten & Allergen Free Expo.” We apologize for any confusion.

Changing Your View About Your Financial Situation If you want to change your reality, you need to start with your thoughts. Changing your perception of your current financial frustrations is an excellent place to get this going. My good friend Marie Forleo made a great point about one of the most common phrases I hear at my workshops-and one of the situational misperceptions that you can work on: "I can't afford that." Marie said she noticed when her business first started taking off that she thought she should be living in a multimillion dollar townhouse in the West Village in New York City instead of the apartment she was living in at the time. Though at first she said to herself, "Yeah, but I can't afford a home like that," she soon realized that this wasn't entirely the case. After looking a bit more closely at the situation, Marie realized that the truth was not that she couldn't afford it (though she didn't have several million in the bank at the time, it was true), but that she didn't want to do what it would take to get a multimillion dollar home at that particular point in time. When I was first beginning my USANA business in college, I enrolled a woman named Leah who had immigrated to the United States from the Caribbean. Leah was a hairdresser who often worked ten or more hours a day, six days a week. She lived in a working-class coastal town and didn't have a lot of extra money to throw around. She always looked incredibly beautiful and chic and she and I both knew she would be a customer magnet, particularly with our skin-care line. After I presented the business to Leah she told me that she was really excited to work with me but she didn't have the money to get started. She did, however, have a big network of friends, family, and clients who she wanted to tell about the products immediately. So, she and I worked together to create a beautiful gathering at her salon where everyone got to have a mini facial and get completely pampered by Leah. Every single attendee ordered product and Leah collected $2,000 worth of orders that night, more than enough to get her business started. Leah had a great view of her financial situation. Instead of complaining about the fact that she didn't have the exact amount of money, she got to work putting what she had of value into action to get what she wanted. She had a salon. She had a supportive network. She had a gift for making people feel beautiful and cared for. So instead of saying, "I can't afford it" when I told her how much it would cost to start her business, she went about making it happen because she valued it enough. The truth is when you really, really, really want something so badly it makes you sweat a little bit when you think about it, you will do whatever it takes to get it. You will sell your stuff. You will get a part-time job. You'll borrow the money. You'll figure out a

HEALING ACNE

by Kate Northrup

way. And when you realize that this is possible, you change your view of your current circumstances. You bring desire coupled with faith action. And this rich combination makes things happen. If your frustration with your financial circumstances doesn't lie simply in the thought I can't afford that, it's important that you focus on reframing what's bothering you. You've already proven to yourself that much of your circumstance lies in your perception of your financial life. So let's rework some of the other views you have about your circumstances using a much-employed tool of the self-help trade: affirmations, or mantras. I want to be super clear here. Affirmations are not magical incantations that make things happen. The way I like to think of them, instead, is as touchstones. For example, the other day I was in a tizzy about having too much to do. I felt like I was running out of time, I didn't know where to start, I felt deadlines weighing on me, and I was totally overwhelmed. In that moment I remembered something my cousin Rachel told me one day as we were working out. During the toughest parts of our workout, she had used the mantra "I am pure, calm grace" to move through the time. When I caught myself in the downward thought spiral about having too much to do, I stopped myself and instead repeated the words "I am pure, calm grace" in my head over and over. Guess what? I felt better. And you know what happens when we move toward a thought that feels better by choosing an affirmation or mantra? We make better choices. We make more empowered choices. The world becomes our oyster rather than our rotten, smelly clam. I don't believe you can affirm your way out of feeling emotions that don't feel good. Sometimes, you just need to feel downright rotten. Sometimes, the only way out is through. But there's a difference between fully feeling your feelings and getting caught in an unproductive, negative downward thought spiral. I'm sure you've heard the statistic before that on average, 80 percent of our thoughts are negative. And even more alarming, 95 percent of them repeat throughout the day. So the idea with mantras, or touchstones, is to give us a place to come back to when we notice that our train of thought has veered off track. When we keep our minds coming back to a place that feels good, we feel good. When we feel good, we make better choices. When we make better choices, our life ends up feeling better more often. And this applies to our financial lives 100 percent. Kate Northrup is author of “Money: A Love Story” (Hay House 2013). The most important food that blood type O can avoid is wheat, for blood type B the worst food is chicken, for blood type A the worst foods are tomatoes and beef, and for blood type AB the worst food to eat is corn. There are a few more foods that are foods to avoid and some other foods that are very beneficial for each group. I will close the food group discussion by making it very clear that unless the person with acne eliminates their food allergens and decreases the foods that are not good for their blood type then no other approach will be successful. One piece of additional information you should have is if you or the person with acne is what we call immune minus or immune plus. Fifteen percent of people are immune minus and this is a very important piece of information to have about a person. If they are immune minus this means that they do not have a screen in their sweat to filter bacteria. These patients can get a very severe form of bacterial infection acne, this is something that should be known about your child in advance. Secretor status is tested through a saliva sample. Keep in mind at this point that in working with a case in the office we would have four different approaches depending on the blood type. There are a few things we can count on to improve a case. Homeopathic Cell Salts, specifically the cell salt called calcium phosphate. The use of this salt is based on the theory that the body is composed of 12 basic salts and that balancing these levels enhances immune function. We know that this approach is at minimum free from side effects. The next step is to try and get the body to pay better attention to the bacteria that is creating the problem. This is done in natural medicine by giving the body a very, very small part of the bacterial to wake up the immune system. This is another approach that is so gentle that it is free from side effects. The next step is to use herbs that have an antibacterial effect. We always want to use herbs first because the ingredients in herbs are recognized by the body. Within reason the worst experience of taking too much of an herb or the wrong herb for the condition are not feeling well. This is different than pharmaceutical drugs, which can build up to toxic levels without the patient feeling worse. I always like to have the body in a state where it can tell me if something is out of balance. The main thing to remember about skin is there there are basically three things that can go wrong. There can be a bacterial issue (impetigo is an example), and problem with a fungus (athletes foot is an example) or the problem can be inflammatory (eczema is an example). It is the heightened

1-800-NEW LIVING

Cont’d from page 4

inflammatory state that is most of the problem in acne. Skin that is hyper inflammatory and hyper reactive will be most likely to develop acne. Inflammation makes the skin more open and vulnerable to the bacteria that create acne. Not only that but hyper inflammatory skin looks less healthy in general. Looking at the whole person in general helps you understand how to help with acne. Some other forms of traditional medicines from cultures like China and India look at person in term of hot and cold. A hot person will obviously be sensitive to the heat, worse in summer, and more prone to inflammatory acne. Their acne may be more superficial, and noticeable. Obviously a person suffering from a cold condition would be the opposite, worse in the cold months. Their acne may be deeper. It would make sense that people with undiagnosed thyroid problems often have this kind of acne, since the thyroid is our thermostat and responsible for our core body temperature. Herbs can also help body heating or cooling using traditional medicines. If up to this point you have not seen a noticeable improvement in the acne, it is time for stronger medicines. The first step is antibiotics both topical and oral forms. A common antibiotic prescribed for acne is minocycline. The problem with any of the antibiotic approaches is that antibiotics have a lot of side effects. Antibiotics work by interfering with the ways that bacteria reproduce. The problem is that our own cells reproduce in many of the same ways that bacteria do. So any drug that interferes with bacteria can cause problems with your own cells. This is why antibiotics must be used after other options have been explored. Antibiotics should be the last line of defense, not because modern medicine is bad but because the chances of side effects are so high. The main side effects with the antibiotics like minocycline that are in tetracycline family are digestive effects that are common with all antibiotics and tooth staining which is most common in childhood but can occur in adults. If the natural steps above do not solve the acne problem your medical doctor can decide with you the best course of oral and topical antibiotics. The important thing to know is the antibiotics will work much better at a much lower dose if you are following the first steps I listed.

ON THE COVER: Sara Haley Tell us a little about yourself I was actually born in Landstuhl, Germany on Ramstein Air Base. My dad was with the US Air Force on active duty. I wish I could say that I remember living there, but my parents moved back to the States when I was six months old. I was born and raised in Downers Grove, IL, a north-west suburb of Chicago; my mom stayed home with my younger sister and me and my dad practiced law downtown Chicago. My dad coached me in a co-ed basketball league until I was about eight, when I broke his heart by deciding that I only wanted to dance. I danced competitively all the way through college, performed professionally in New York City, and I haven’t stopped moving since! Why do you like boxing/dancing? I knew, even before I started boxing, that I would love it. Part of the reason I love dancing so much is because it’s a technique - something you can learn, practice and constantly improve on. Boxing is the same thing, and what’s even better - you get to hit something. My good friend and amazing trainer, Jade Alexis, first taught me to box when I was living in New York City. I stopped when I was pregnant with my son, because of all the twisting involved, but I got back into it as soon as I could after I had him. It was not only effective in losing the baby weight but such a therapeutic workout as a new mom. What is your philosophy of fitness and being healthy? My philosophy on fitness and health is “Change your workout, change your body, change your life.” In terms of fitness, I encourage people to change up their workout often. It’s the only way to see constant change and results; it will keep your mind and body from becoming bored. The same rules can be applied to what we eat, what we wear, and what we do (just life in general). We need change to evolve and become smarter, stronger, and happier human beings. Tell us what you do in a typical day – fitness wise morning, noon and nite. What do you eat/how much/when, etc. Since I became a mom, a “typical day” has become completely nonexistent. Nothing is ever set-in-stone when you have a two-year-old, so planning the time of my workouts, meals, etc. - it just doesn’t happen.

What I can plan, is that sometime and somehow I will get in a workout, whether it’s five minutes or forty-five minutes (hence the creation of my DVD, Sweat UNLIMITED) and that I will eat clean and healthy most of the day. Weekends are usually my cheat days for both diet and exercise. Words of advice/inspiration/motivational tips you can offer our readers? Some of my favorite tips: 1) Work out each day like it might be your last workout - you just never know where life is going to take you! 2) If you don’t try, you’ll never know. 3) Be the best version of you. Tell us about your new DVD series; what sets it apart from others on the market? I was a lead talent and creator for Reebok workout DVDs for years, and I now have 2 DVDs on the market right now under my own brand, The Daily Sweat®, which I’m very proud of. I have a prenatal workout program called Expecting More®. It has six different workouts on 2 DVDs, along with a calendar & Q&A. I shot it when I was eight months pregnant with my son. My hope was to inspire pregnant women to stay strong & fit throughout their pregnancy. Like my fitness philosophy, there are a variety or workouts - from sports conditioning, cardio dance, interval training, strength training, and pilates/yoga fusion, to keep mommies-to-be inspired throughout the nine months of pregnancy. I created Expecting More® because, when I was pregnant, I saw a lack of motivating and fun workouts for pregnant women, so I developed a program to keep women of ALL fitness levels fit throughout their pregnancies. It’s ranked among the top ten pregnancy workouts on Amazon. My newest DVD is Sweat UNLIMITED, which is for EVERYONE! I created it because after I had my son, everyone wanted to know how I lost my 30-35 lbs. of baby weight. Though some of the weight loss was definitely due to the fact that I stayed so active during my pregnancy (with workouts like on Expecting More®), but I mostly lost the weight due to just being consistent, changing up my workouts often, and putting in the time with whatever time I had available. Sweat UNLIMITED is very authentic to the types of workouts I did to lose the last 10 pounds - boxing, dance-inspired movement, Tabata and body-weight strength training. Moreover, it’s true to the fact that sometimes I only had just five minutes to workout and other times I would surprisingly have as much as forty-five minutes. The DVD consists of four different workouts: 45, 30, 15 & 5 minutes, as well as a bonus stretch routine. Sweat UNLIMITED is for anyone who is short on time and looking to lose those lingering pounds. CAROLINE MYSS: The Power of Archetypes If I said to you, "See that man over there? He's my Hero," or "That woman is the Perfect Mom," I know without a doubt that you would understand exactly what I was communicating to you about two people you had never met. With just three words-Hero and Perfect Mom-I would have awakened in you two complete archives of myths and symbols that you automatically associate with those terms. In seconds, these two people would cease to be strangers, as your psyche wrapped them in stories, fairy tales, and your own memories. The man would instantly take on the appearance of a super-strong Hero able to face any adversary. Despite knowing nothing else about him, you would instantly trust him. The words Perfect Mom pack a powerful punch, especially in our society. The instant someone tells you that a woman is a Perfect Mom, you immediately picture a great cook with a charming, well-ordered home, who helps her kids with their homework, attends all their sporting events, listens to their problems, hosts sleepovers with their friends-and bakes brownies. So how do those words-Hero and Perfect Mom-communicate so much visual, emotional, intellectual, and mythic information to us? They carry the power they do because they are archetypes, psychic power patterns in the unconscious mind. Archetypes are the power images we identify with as children. We are drawn to movies, books, and video games with characters that represent our power images. Little girls dress up as Princesses and Wonder Woman, little boys as Batman and Warriors. Archetypal identification begins early. The ten archetypal patterns that reflect the power trends of our times are: the Advocate, the Artist/Creative, the Athlete, the Caregiver, the Fashionista, the Intellectual, the Queen/Executive, the Rebel, the Spiritual Seeker, and the Visionary. They all embody the primary power issues that define women today, including their underlying struggles with personal empowerment. In addition to reflecting contemporary power themes, the ten archetypes embody the more pressing personal challenges facing women today. Women in particular face the challenge of developing an inner sense of power and personal identity. Without that essential core of self-esteem, you will be unable to hear your intuitive guidance. Archetypal patterns filter into every aspect of your life. Your archetypes influence your spending habits, how you shop, and what you buy or not. They

influence the quality of your relationships, and who you are attracted to and why. And they influence recurring issues: arguments you seem to have over and over, difficulties at work that keep cropping up, and other patterns that repeat themselves. The more you know about how archetypes work, the more easily you can observe their influence on your thoughts, your attitudes, your behavior, and your personal myths and symbols. Once you connect with an archetype that you know is genuinely you, it will inspire you to find out about other archetypes that may be influencing your life. Connecting with an archetype is a bridge to your true Self, to who you really are. You are an infinitely complex human being with stories and myths and dreams-and ambitions of cosmic proportions. Don't waste time underestimating yourself. Dream big. Use your archetypes. If you're an Artist, make art. If you're a Visionary, imagine something the future needs, then join forces with an Entrepreneur to make a venture out of it. Use the energy of your archetype to express the true reason you were born. Life was never meant to be safe. It was meant to be lived right to the end. There are inner riches awaiting you in the archetypal domain. Life is an archetypal magic carpet ride through endless adventures meant to teach us about the hidden truths of life and our place in the cosmic scheme. Carolyn Myss, is author of “Archetypes: Who Are You?” (Hay House 2012). To learn more about Carolyn Myss and inspirational authors such as Dr. Wayne Dyer, Cheryl Richardson, Congressman Tim Ryan, Kris Carr and more, we invite you to join us at the Hay House I Can Do It! event in New York, NY, October 26th & 27th, 2013. For more information please visit www.icandoit.net or call 800-654-5126. Have you ever wondered why you are drawn to certain people, ideas, or products and turned off by others? Are you constantly searching for something you can't put your finger on, or wondering whether you are living a life that truly fits? In “Archetypes: Who Are You?,” New York Times best-selling author Caroline Myss delves into the world of archetypes, which have been the subject of her work for more than 25 years. Archetypes are universal patterns of behavior that, once discovered, help you better understand yourself and your place in the world. In short, knowing your archetypes can transform your life. ************************************* BEET JUICE CAN HELP YOU RUN BETTER Beets are naturally high in nitrates which is converted into nitric oxide in the body which helps to dilate blood vessels and improve blood flow to muscles. In a 2009 study, researchers found nitrates enabled people to exercise up to 16% longer because of nitrates' ability to reduce oxygen uptake, making exercise less tiring. Red Ace Organic Beet Juice supplement will boost athletic performance—improving blood flow that could assist in improving athletic performance. The juice comes in small bottles ready to chug as is, or is easy to add to other drinks, like tomato juice or veggie based smoothies. 1 bottle = 3 Organic Beets. Ingredients include: Organic Beet Juice Concentrate, Organic Lemon Juice, & Organic Natural Flavors. For athletes, there has never been a drug, substance, or steroid that could increase energy extraction from oxygen, until now! Red Ace Organic Beet Juice supplement improves lung function to allow deeper breathing, and strengthens heart boosting cardiac output and blood flow. Your body might even start making more red blood cells to boost the oxygen caring capacity of the blood. The conversion to Nitrate to Nitric Oxide is what causes dilation or widening of the blood vessels. In 1998, the Nobel Prize in physiology/medicine went to three pharmacologists who discovered the importance of naturally occurring Nitric Oxide or NO in the human body. The ability to improve the elasticity of the blood vessels could allow better delivery of oxygen and nutrients to the entire body. Research suggests, drinking beetroot juice, or consuming other nitrate-rich vegetables, is a simple way to maintain a healthy cardiovascular system. For more info: www.redaceorganics.com

How to Be a Pack Leader The animal world can teach us much about improving our emotional health and relationships, says author and psychologist Harper West. We should become more like "alpha" dogs or "pack leaders," she writes in her new book, "Pack Leader Psychology." (Available online and at www.PackLeaderPsychology.com, $12.99 print/$4.99 ebook) While training her dog, West learned to be more assertive and discovered that the same skills could be applied to human relationships. She then Author Harper West transformed her personality from submissive, abused wife into a self-assured leader of people. Here are some lessons in how anyone can become a human pack leader: Be Authentic: Dogs are easy to love because they are authentic. When they are joyful, they play; when they are excited, they run and jump. In contrast, many people strategize about how to behave and communicate to gain approval from others. "Submissive" personality types hide their competence to avoid threatening others. "Dominators" threaten others to look competent. "Pack Leaders" are not fearful of rejection, so they behave authentically. Give up trying to impress others. Give yourself permission to be imperfect. You will free yourself from self-judgment and fear of judgment by others. Be Honest and Assertive: Dogs communicate with each other promptly, clearly and honestly. If a dog approaches too aggressively, another dog will instantly growl, letting the aggressive dog know it should back off. People, however, often shy away from communicating assertively. Honesty is frightening to some people, because they fear the consequences. Confrontation also goes against our primal desire to get along: We don't want to offend someone and get kicked out of our "pack!" Some people go to extremes in handling confrontation. Submissives avoid conflict to get others to like them. They have an unspoken pact: "I won't criticize you, if you won't criticize me." Dominators challenge to keep others from criticizing. Both Submissives and Dominators have low selfworth, making them fearful of criticism. A Pack Leader has good self-worth and is not dependent on the approval of others. Pack Leaders communicate; they don't manipulate. Be Accountable: Dogs quickly accept punishment and move on. Dominator personality types have difficulty handling criticism and taking responsibility. They've learned to manage feelings of shame by lashing out and

blaming others. Submissives lash in at themselves in self-blame. They can be overly responsible, perfectionistic and people pleasing. To become a human Pack Leader, face your fears of criticism and imperfection and take responsibilities for your behaviors, thoughts and feelings. Be Respectful: Many dog owners fail to become Pack Leaders because they are more concerned with trying to be the dog's friend than earning respect. This eagerness for approval is a sign of weakness and the dog will not respect or obey the owner. Pack Leaders know that love and friendship flow out of respect, not the other way around. Stop trying to be everyone's friend (a Submissive behavior). Stop bullying others (a Dominator behavior). These behaviors are disrespectful and manipulative. Parents especially should focus more on fostering respect and not being overly eager for an approving friendship with a child. Be Instinctive: Anyone who has owned a dog has marveled at its intuitive natures. Dogs are known to predict earthquakes and storms and can detect cancer. In contrast, Submissives and Dominators are so focused on the reactions of others they often fail to pay attention to intuitive perceptions. A Pack Leader can trust his instincts because he is calm and self-aware. Worrying about what other people think gets in the way of your intuition empowering you. Be a Leader, Not a Controller: If a dog is off the leash, an owner can't force it to come. The dog only chooses to obey because it respects the owner as a Pack Leader. In human relationships, especially parenting, control often enters the picture. Submissives try to control by being placating and pleasing. Dominators control through intimidation or emotional drama. Pack Leaders know they can't control others, only themselves. Actually, by trying to control others you expose your fear of disapproval. When you exist only for everyone else's approval, you constantly risk rejection. When you rely only on your own approval, the risk of rejection evaporates. Most people today are far too concerned about their emotional selfpreservation to truly care about others. They are fearful and hyper-vigilant in avoiding rejection, judgment and shame. They have very little emotional energy left to worry about the needs of others. A "Pack Leader" has none of those fears, so they are naturally free to be empathic and compassionate. “Pack Leader Psychology” is a unique combination of self-help book and deeply personal memoir that arose out of Harper West's experiences in life and dog training. Based on the elemental wisdom of the animals and the latest research on human social psychology, “Pack Leader Psychology” gives readers tools to transform their personalities and relationships. SUNSCREEN DO’S & DON’TS: EWG Report on Dangers Hidden in Your Sunscreen Lotion Environmental Working Group (EWG) recently published a report on their website at www.ewg.org on what to look for in sun tan lotions and sunscreens. Here are the guidelines: 1) No Spray Sunscreens: Given the ease of applying them on squirming kids and hard-to-reach areas, these super-popular aerosolized sunscreens may seem like a dream come true. But there's growing concern that these sprays pose serious inhalation risks. They also make it too easy to apply too little or to miss a spot, leaving bare skin exposed to harmful rays. 2) No Super-High SPFs: Products with sky-high SPFs may protect against sunburn but could leave your skin exposed to damaging UVA rays. Although the letters SPF stand for "sun protection factor," this refers only to protection against UVB radiation, which burns the skin. It has nothing to do with the sun's UVA rays, which penetrate deep into the skin, suppress the immune system, accelerate skin aging and may cause skin cancer. These high-SPF products may tempt people to stay in the sun too long, suppressing sunburns but upping the risk of other kinds of skin damage. The FDA is considering limiting SPF claims to 50+, as is done in other countries. 3) No Oxybenzone: Commonly used in sunscreens, the chemical oxybenzone penetrates the skin, gets into the bloodstream and acts like estrogen in the body. It can also trigger allergic reactions. Data are preliminary, but studies have found a link between higher concentrations of oxybenzone and health harms. One study has linked oxybenzone to endometriosis in older women; another found that women with higher levels of oxybenzone during pregnancy had lower birth weight daughters. 4) No Loose Powder Sunscreens: Loose powder sunscreens are designed to be used on the face and scalp. They often contain tiny particles of zinc and titanium that can potentially offer strong UV protection if enough sticks to the skin. But they end up in the lungs, too, inhaled from a cloud of airborne particles each time they're applied. There, they can cause damage. Based on studies of rats and people who work in dusty environments, the International Agency for Research on Cancer classifies inhaled

titanium dioxide as "possibly carcinogenic to humans." Tiny zinc particles also irritate the lungs and could pass through skin into the body. FDA's current over-the-counter rules no longer allow loose powders, including loose powder makeup, to advertise an SPF or make claims of sun protection. But it granted small companies an extra year to remove their powders from the market. The bottom line? If there's a chance you'll breathe it, don't buy it. EWG recommends that people stick to creams and avoid powders and sprays. 5) No Retinyl Palmitate: When used in a night cream, this form of vitamin A is supposed to have anti-aging effects. But on sun-exposed skin, retinyl palmitate may speed development of skin tumors and lesions, according to government studies. Why is this "inactive ingredient" allowed in sunscreens intended for use in the sun? Good question. The FDA has yet to rule on the safety of retinyl palmitate in skin care products, but EWG recommends that consumers avoid sunscreens containing this chemical. 6) No Combined Sunscreen/Bug Repellents: Skip products that combine bug repellent with sunscreen. Why? For starters, bugs are typically not a problem during the hours when UV exposure peaks. Also, sunscreen may need to be reapplied more frequently than repellent, or vice versa. We recommend that you avoid using repellents on your face, too. Studies indicating that combining sunscreens and repellents leads to increased skin absorption of the repellent ingredients. 7) No Sunscreen Towelettes: FDA's 2011 sunscreen rules ended the sale of sunscreen wipes and towelettes, but small companies have been granted another year to remove them from their product lines. One key question is whether you get enough sunscreen on your skin to ensure sun protection. EWG thinks these on-the-go packets are not worth the risk. So leave these and similar products on the shelf: 8) No Tanning Oils: Tanning oils are simply a bad idea. They promote risky behavior, encouraging users seek out intense sunshine that results in skin damage and increased risk of developing skin cancer. Although some tanning oils contain sunscreen ingredients, the levels are always very low and offer little, if any, protection from the sun's rays. Tanning oils are also associated with an increased danger of sunburn. Avoid products with SPF values lower than 15 or that don't contain either zinc oxide or avobenzone for UVA protection. SLOW MEDICINE: Making the Time for Lasting Health by Michael Finkelstein MD In today's fast-paced, high-intensity society, we have been programmed to expect instant gratification, immediate results and quick fixes. With our countless responsibilities and without time to spare, we naturally look for shortcuts to our next destination. But instead of being at peace with all that we can accomplish, we have wound up in a frenzied state, running around like chickens with their heads cut off. We experience this in the form of escalating confusion and exhaustion. And we are sick! In response, the fast food industry is giving way to the Slow Food Movement. And now, coming at this from the perspective of a physician, I believe it's time for some Slow Medicine as well. Indeed, the "quick fix" culture has infiltrated all aspects of our lives and unfortunately, our health is no exception. What a paradox. Even in the U.S., where we spend more than any other country in the world on healthcare and are responsible for many of the tremendous medical breakthroughs witnessed worldwide over the past half a century, many Americans suffer unabated from chronic conditions (i.e., diabetes, heart disease, cancer, arthritis) while countries that spend substantially less on healthcare actually have healthier populations. Time for a reality check. Do we continue to blindly follow the lemmings off the cliff of Band-Aid solutions, or do we delve deeper into the core of our existence to find the greater health we desire? That's not to say we should abandon the important advances in medicine that save lives, but I believe we need something beyond conventional medicine to achieve the health we really deserve. But, this is the thing: the easier path is to follow the crowd. That's where we're most comfortable. But how's that working for us? Indeed, the world is at a crossroad and so are YOU! The good news is that you have a choice. So what is the alternative? The first thing I would suggest is that we reframe our own definition and understanding of health. Is it merely the numbers on our latest lab reports, or our blood pressure, blood sugar levels or how long we live? I think you intuitively know the answer. No. True health is actually measured by the quality of our relationships, the feelings of accomplishment for a job well done, a life well lived. The fact is, how we live our life matters most and to do it well, rather than running around, we need to slow down, recalculate, and reprioritize. Rather than turning to others for simple and immediate solutions, we need to look more deeply into ourselves and our fundamental condition. The magic of western medicine has mes-

merized us into a trance. It's time to wake up and take hold, to get back on track and pursue a meaningful life--not just a long one. Similar to how a professional basketball player masters his three-pointer or an award-winning chef perfects an elaborate five-course meal, I would submit that the act of living is also a learned skill that requires practice, dedication, intention and attention. It is through this philosophy that people can recognize the first step to transcending their health issues: a genuine commitment to life change; one that embodies a willingness to take the time to not just find remedies for the physical ailments, but to learn from them and to simultaneously appreciate that our feelings about our life matter just as much. Because everything in our lives is interconnected, it would benefit us to view health and well-being as a wholly singular unit that encompasses everything, from the food we eat to the relationships and careers we choose. And, it is about how we feel while living, right now at this moment. Put together, I call this pursuit, "Skillful Living." Improved health cannot be achieved in a vacuum, and it is not given to us by a mechanic, even one as well trained as a surgeon. If we are feeling sick, tired or depressed, there is almost always a link to one or more of the other factors in our lives. That's why it's important to ask ourselves the right questions, examining life as a whole, connecting all the dots. And, this takes some time, it is a process of unfolding. Again, we need to slow down to take this all in. And, we need a slightly different type of doctor, perhaps one that asks us questions, questions we answer for ourselves. The questions that I am alluding to are not designed to have obvious and simple answers. We must suspend our desire for instant results in order to live skillfully. Instead, they force a careful examination of our own reflection which takes courage for sure. But, as a reminder, how's it going following the lemming running in front of you -- at the crossroad you find yourself in now, the way you struggle at work, or with your "dis-ease", or with your mate? I actually believe it is in these questions that you will find one answer that has the capacity to change your life, to alter your course. The specific questions that help one of my patients recover, may not target the needs of another. To that end, it's imperative that we identify what optimal health is on our own terms and then work through the personalized steps we need to find and achieve it. WHAT’S IN YOUR FOOD? Ag-Gag Laws Don’t Want You to Know "With antibiotic resistant bacteria costing us more than $55 billion and killing tens of thousands of people each year, you could even argue that today's factory farms have become a form of biological weapons factory!" says Ocean Robbins, a food freedom activist, inspirational speaker and author of the new book "Voices of the Food Revolution (Conari Press; 2013; www.redwheelweiser.com)." Why not leave it to the US government to police Big Ag through more meat inspections? First, there are not enough USDA inspectors. Second, inspectors never catch the criminals in the act during pre-announced routine inspections. And because animals cannot speak for themselves, criminal acts are not followed up on. "Unfortunately, thanks to the weight of agribusiness interests, even USDA meat inspectors don't always feel free to protect animals or public health," says Robbins. Jim Schrier, a USDA meat inspector of 29 years, reported inhumane handling violations at a Tyson Foods slaughterhouse in Iowa to his supervisor. This supervisor reportedly became very angry, and a week later, relocated Schrier to another facility 120 miles away. Then, the USDA permanently moved Schrier to a plant in another state. Instead of protecting the public interest, our government has sold its soul to corporate interests. In an ongoing attack on whistleblowers, journalists and anyone shining the light on the criminal behavior of corporations, whistleblowers like Schrier must choose between doing the right thing and keeping his job in order to feed his family. And no one standing up for truth and justice should ever be put in that position. Ag-Gag bills are a clear violation of First Amendment rights supporting freedom of speech and the press. It is the only way citizens can be properly informed which is vital to a working democracy. "There are serious questions about whether Ag-Gag bills, and retaliation against whistleblowers like Jim Schrier, are even constitutional," says Robbins. Animal Legal Defense Fund and PETA have filed a joint historic lawsuit that challenges the constitutionality of Ag Gag laws. They are suing the governor and attorney general of Utah over the constitutionality of state code 76-6-112. Amy Meyer is one of the plaintiffs in the lawsuit. She did not go undercover; she was simply standing on the side of the road, on a public easement and recorded what she saw behind a barbed wire fence. http://aldf.org/blog/landmark-ag-gag-

If journalists and whistleblowers aren't allowed to speak the truth, we're going to have an awfully hard time retaining any semblance of a functioning democracy," says Robbins. Eating Animal Flesh May be a Thing of the Past Taste-Testers Love First Bite of Cultured Meat by Michelle Kretzer On August 5, 2013, in London, for the first time, two people got to sink their teeth into a real beef hamburger that didn’t come from a cow. Professor Mark Post of Maastricht University in the Netherlands publicly unveiled his lab-grown burger at a high-profile taste-testing event that was streamed online. A chef prepared the cultured beef patty and Post let a food writer and a food researcher do the honors. "The surface of the meat was crunchy—surprisingly," said food researcher Hanni Rutzler. "The taste itself was as juicy as meat can be, but different. It tastes like meat, not a meat-substitute like soya or whatever." Well, there are some pretty tasty soy—or whatever—burgers, but some people just "have to have" real meat. And that's going to be OK one day, because cultured beef is meat. Post made his by placing stem cells taken from cows into a culture dish and feeding the cells with fetal calf serum to make them grow. He says that one sample of muscle cells taken from a live cow during a biopsy could create up to 20,000 tons of cultured beef. Besides eliminating the need to slaughter billions of animals every year, growing meat in a laboratory would end clear-cutting of forests for livestock production, conserve vast amounts of water and energy, and reduce greenhouse-gas emissions for meat production by 78 to 96 percent. PETA has been investing in cultured meat research for the past six years to save animals. The debut of this lab-grown burger is the first important step toward realizing the dream of one day putting environmentally sound, humanely produced real meat into the hands and mouths of the people who insist upon eating animal flesh. WHAT’S IN YOUR FOOD? Ag-Gag Laws Don’t Want You to Know! by Christine Lynn Harvey, Editor/Publisher The corporations have staged a coup d'etat in this country and they have won. In the most recent slate of draconian measures, Big Ag (Agriculture, that is) has concocted an "Ag-Gag" bill (the "gag" stands for shutting up those who expose Big Ag’s illegal activities) which, with the help of the rogue government that is quickly turning America into a fascist dictatorship, makes it a state crime for anyone, including employee whistleblowers, activists and journalists, to report unsafe, illegal and inhumane food production practices. Journalistic exposés of the meat industry, including Upton Sinclair's “The Jungle,” have led to landmark laws including the Federal Meat Inspection Act and the Pure Food and Drug Act. Such laws have protected the public from Mad Cow disease and meat contaminated with E. coli and salmonella. Tainted and unsafe food is always linked to practices of animal cruelty usually by way of crowding farm animals into unhealthy living conditions, denying medical care and beating/torturing them after the animals become sick and debilitated from their ill treatment (ever wonder why your meat no longer even tastes good? it's all the stress and fear hormones trapped in the tissue of the farm animal you are eating). The dubious ALEC (American Legislative Exchange Council), a consortium of corporate lawyers and lobbyists that work on behalf of The United Corporations of America (no longer the USA), unabashedly crafts boilerplate legislation so that lazy legislators who don't want to do their own homework on a particular issue and/or are easily corrupted by contributions to their campaign funds, don't have to spend all that annoying time in their offices actually earning their paychecks. ALEC's mission, downright and simple, is to get legislation passed that benefits, profits and protects corporations engaged in criminal behavior. It was ALEC that created a document entitled "Animal and Ecological Terrorism in America," putting animal rights and food freedom activists on par with Al-Qaeda. Ah, AlQaeda. The magic words that make everyone curl up into a fetal position and forget their common sense. The Orwellian nightmare is complete where war is peace, freedom is slavery and ignorance is strength. Where the do-gooder, the one exposing the crime, becomes the criminal. Finding out about how your food is produced and reporting on the unsanitary, inhumane and potentially fatal consequences of that food is now considered an act of terrorism. Amy Meyer is the first American arrested and charged under the new AgGag law. Meyer witnessed, and recorded with her Smartphone, the inhumane treatment of a 'downer' cow at Dale Smith Meatpacking Company in Draper City, Utah. She documented how a sick cow was treated like rubble as it was carried away in a tractor while she stood at the side of the road and watched what went on from a barbed wire fence. (Go to aldf.org to watch the video on how Meyer was harassed by law enforcement on a public roadway). The charges were dropped after her video went viral on the internet. Undercover videos have been the only source of alerting the public to the health dangers of how their food is produced. This includes the widespread practice of cramming chickens into overcrowded cages spurring outbreaks of salmo-

nella as well as the overuse of antibiotics which has led to a man-made health epidemic of biblical proportions. It was an undercover video that led to the largest recall of beef in US history (sick cows were slaughtered and their meat was mixed into meat from healthy cows and sold to school lunch programs). Abusive treatment stresses the animals out to the max making them even more vulnerable to disease. The diseased meat (flesh and organs) or animal product (cheese, milk, butter, eggs) is then consumed by you. According to the Humane Society of America's website, undercover videos routinely show workers kicking cows, ramming them with pitchforks and forklift blades, dragging them with chains tied around their necks, jabbing them in the eyes with rods, applying painful electrical shocks, violently hurling chickens into transport cages to the point of their bones being broken, slamming baby piglets unconscious against walls, and other horrifying and inhumane acts. Most animals are put through a torturous death while still conscious. The worst of human beings seem to gravitate to working at factory farms and slaughterhouses. And then you eat the meat with all that petrifying energy infused into it. “This must serve as a five-alarm call to action for Congress and the U.S. Department of Agriculture," said Wayne Pacelle, president and CEO of The HSUS. "Our government simply must act quickly both to guarantee the most basic level of humane treatment for farm animals and to protect America's most vulnerable people, our children, needy families and the elderly from potentially dangerous food." There are Ag-Gag laws like the one that targeted Meyer in Kansas, Arkansas, Iowa and Missouri. In 2013, eleven states introduced anti-whistleblower bills: Arkansas, California, Indiana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Wyoming and Vermont. Just because you don't live in these states, doesn't mean you are immune to Ag-Gag's consequences. Learn where the companies that process your food are based as well as their suppliers (factory farms) and processors (slaughterhouses). Then boycott the hell out of them. McDonald's, Tyson and Butterball are just some of the companies who have used meat from facilities accused of unsanitary conditions and inhumane treatment. You know that Happy Meal you feed your child? Watch www.mcdonaldscruelty.com and you'll realize the meat is not so happy. Like foie gras? You won't after you watch www.amazoncruelty.com. Check out www.butterballcruelty.com, www.burgerkingcruelty.com and kentuckyfriedcruelty.com as well. Many of these videos were shot by Mercy for Animals, an animal activist organization that complies with all laws when they send their employees undercover to record animal abuse, illegal activity and unsanitary health conditions. They have stopped conducting investigations in states where Ag Gag laws apply. These videos are not for the faint of heart, but, they must be watched. You will never want to patronize these companies again. You see, the bottom line is, in order to protect their bottom line, the big corporations don't want you to know how your food is produced. They'll only start caring if you stop buying their products. And then, there is the antibiotic resistance epidemic. Factory farming has significantly contributed to the rise of superbugs since it requires massive amounts of antibiotics to keep farm animals in abysmal living conditions. Did you know that 80 percent of all the antibiotics used in the US are given to farm animals, not people?! The spawning of drug-resistant superbugs are killing hundreds of thousands of Americans every year so that Big Ag can continue making obscene profits. An Environmental Working Group (EWG) study recently found antibiotic resistant "super bugs" on 81 percent of the ground turkey and 55 percent of the ground beef in America's supermarkets. An analysis by the EWG has determined that government tests of raw supermarket meat recently detected antibiotic-resistant bacteria in 81% ground turkey, 69% pork chops, 55% ground beef, 39% chicken breast, wings or thighs. These microbes have been implicated in fatalities due to food borne illness and also triggering autoimmune diseases causing hard-to-treat paralysis, arthritis and other serious conditions. The researchers also found that some 53 percent of raw chicken samples collected in 2011 were tainted with an antibiotic-resistant form of Escherichia coli, or E. coli, a microbe that normally inhabits feces. Certain strains of E. coli can cause diarrhea, urinary tract infections and pneumonia. The extent of antibioticresistant E. coli on chicken is alarming because bacteria readily share antibiotic-resistance genes.

HUMAN PAPILLOMA VIRUS (HPV) The Latest Answer! Do you have HPV infection? According the U. S. Center for Disease Control, genital human papillomavirus (HPV) is the most common sexually transmitted infection. There are 40 or more types of HPV that can infect the genital areas of men and women as well as the throat and mouth! HPV may cause serious health problems, including genital warts and certain cancers. Most people who become infected with HPV don’t even know they have it!

So how do you get HPV?

This treatment destroys the virus wherever it is living, genitally and orally outside or inside the body. Simply, it is the only treatment that does this and with no pain at all! What happens is, medical grade oxygen and ozone gas is safely and painlessly injected by trained professionals into a vein (you can’t get an embolus from oxygen, only from nitrogen gas found in air), the extra ”O” in the ozone molecule acts like a “glue” stealing an electron from anything in our body that it can latch onto. Healthy cells in our body contain natural anti-oxidants that protect them against damage or destruction. Only pathogens like HPV are destroyed anywhere they are living. In addition organic ozonated oils are used either externally and/or internally to safely and painlessly assist and speed up the eradication of this horrible infection. So please don’t wait any longer! It’s absolutely possible to completely eliminate HPV from your body. To learn more about Medical Ozone therapy go to www.ozoneuniversity.com or buy a copy of “Ozone Therapy: The Miracle Medicine” available at www.garynull.com, which has testimonials on it’s many benefits, uses and effectiveness.

Anyone who is having or has ever had sex can get HPV. The CDC says that this is true even for people who only have sex with one person in their lifetime! HPV is passed on through genital contact, usually during vaginal and anal sex. What most people don’t know is that HPV may also be passed on during oral sex also. Most people don’t realize they are infected, or that they are passing HPV on to their partner. A person can still have HPV, even if years have passed since they have had sexual contact with an infected If you have any questions about this amazing therapy you may person. Most important to note is that a pregnant woman with genital contact Dr. Howard Robins at 212-581-0101, considered the foremost clinHPV can pass the HPV on to her baby during delivery. ical expert on the use of medical ozone in North America with over 185,000 treatments preformed for over 22 years. What are the risks from HPV? While some infections “may go away,” unfortunately, sometimes, HPV infections can and will persist and may cause a variety of very significant and serious health problems. Health problems that can be caused by HPV include: • Genital warts which can be painful. • Recurrent respiratory papillomatosis (RRP), fortunately a rare condition in which the warts grow in the throat. • Cervical cancer. • Other rare but serious cancers, including genital cancers, and a type of head and neck cancer called oropharyngeal cancer which is in the back of throat, and may extend to the base of the tongue and tonsils.

Is there a test for HPV and how is it treated? HPV tests are available to help screen women aged 30 years and older for cervical cancer. These HPV tests are not used to screen men, children, or women under the age of 30 years. There is no approved HPV test to detect HPV in the mouth or throat. According to the CDC, there is no treatment for the virus itself, but only for the health problems that HPV can cause. This is not true. The standard treatments below unfortunately often fail and a recurrence of the problem happens sometimes a year or more later. • Genital warts can be removed with treatments applied by doctors using acid or liquid nitrogen. • Cervical cancer is most treatable when it is diagnosed and treated early. Here surgical scraping or cryosurgery (freezing) is typically used also, unfortunately far to often with re-occurrence. • Recurrent respiratory papillomatosis (RRP) can be treated with surgery or medicines. Curing RRP often requires many treatments or surgeries over a period of years. What can be done if the normal treatment fails? There is a safe and proven effective treatment that has been used in Europe for many years and now available here, called Direct Intravenous Ozone Therapy (DIV).
