New Hall School celebrated outstanding GCSE results in 2021. Staff and parents praised the students for both their excellent academic results and their resilience over the year.

“It is wonderful to see the students and their families celebrating fantastic achievements, after a period which challenged their creativity and perseverance. We are happy to have as many as 79% of grades at 7 (A* and A) and above. Once again, our Diamond Model, that allows boys and girls to learn in separate classes from Year 7 to Year 11, receives validation with the outstanding balance of results between boys and girls across all subjects.”

Suzanna Minnis, Head of Girls’ and Boys’ Divisions, shared her thoughts on the Class of 2021:

I will be studying Mathematics, Chemistry and Biology, but first, I plan on celebrating with family and friends for the rest of the summer.”

Poppy’s perfect score of straight 9s came after years of hard work and determination. She commented: “Now that I have the results, I am hoping this is a step closer to my dream of studying Medicine! I am so excited to start my A Levels here at New Hall.

Samuel, who achieved straight 9s, commented on his experience: “This is a fantastic end to my GCSEs, which were filled with unexpected challenges. I can only say that I am thrilled and relieved. I look forward to studying Biology, Chemistry, Geography and Spanish at A Level and seeing everyone again in September.”

Head of Year 11 Boys, Mr Nathan Kerr, said: “This is a very joyful day for all. I have seen these students grow and progress in their studies, taking on the challenge of GCSEs in the midst of a pandemic. The maturity and enthusiasm with which they approached their lessons were impressive and inspiring.”

Through careful use of setting and an extensive academic co-curricular programme, our most able students are given the encouragement and opportunities to stretch themselves and to produce outstanding results. Our focus on developing students’ learning habits, whilst inspiring a lifelong love for their subjects, equips them with the skills and motivation they need to excel as they face the more challenging material at A Level. Furthermore, our excellent pastoral system is able to support our most able students to ensure that, above all else, they maintain a healthy balance in their studies and that they have the independence and confidence to succeed at university and beyond. This performance can be illustrated by comparing the performance of our most academically able students (those in the top sets/top third of their cohorts) in Years 11 and 13.
