friends of Northeast Valley Health Corporation (NEVHC),
At NEVHC, we believe true growth is measured not just by individual success, but by the collective health and strength of our communities. As we reflect on the milestones achieved in 2024 and offer a glimpse into our vision for 2025, we continue our commitment to advancing health equity and building a stronger, healthier future.
NEVHC’s commitment to health equity was widely recognized in 2024 through several honors. The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) nationally recognized NEVHC with Community Health Quality Recognition (CHQR) badges, including being a Quality Leader, Advancing Health Information, Addressing Risk Factors and maintaining our commitment as a Patient-Centered Medical Home. Additionally, Assemblymember Jesse Gabriel honored NEVHC as Healthcare Heroes of the Year at his 4th Annual Valley Community Leadership Awards for our efforts to expand access to care in the San Fernando Valley.
Beyond these accolades, 2024 was also a year where our community engagement flourished. Our events celebrated our progress, shared resources, and most importantly, strengthened our commitment to advancing health care accessibility.
During National Health Center Week, we unveiled our new and upgraded Mobile Health Center allowing us to reach more unhoused patients with limited access to transportation. In September, we hosted a lively Community Resource Day at Van Nuys City Hall, where over 40 nonprofit organizations and partners provided vital information and resources to hundreds of community members. In October, we celebrated our inaugural CEO Luncheon, bringing together leaders, partners, and advocates to highlight the critical role of community health centers and share the vision for NEVHC’s future. To close the year, our 27th Annual Holiday Toy Drive brought joy to our pediatric patients and their families, offering a festive morning filled with activities, resources, gifts and a special visit from Santa Claus.
As we celebrate recent recognitions and events, we also take pride in the legacy that brought us here. Last year, the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) marked its 50th anniversary, and NEVHC’s own WIC Program, the fifth largest in California, celebrated 37 years of service! This year, we are proud to honor two additional milestones: the 50th anniversary of our Pacoima Health Center and the 35th anniversary of our HIV Program.
We now embrace a future in which we continue growing to meet the needs of our communities. In 2025, we will expand our Santa Clarita Health Center and open a new health center in Reseda, increasing access to care across the San Fernando and Santa Clarita valleys. As we move forward into another year of service, we invite you to stay engaged, advocate for community health centers, and help us build a healthier future for all. Together, we will continue to grow healthier, stronger communities for years to come.

On October 30, 2024, NEVHC hosted its inaugural CEO Luncheon, bringing together community leaders, healthcare partners, elected officials, supporters and staff to celebrate our mission and share future projects that partners can be involved in. The event honored Ms. Kimberly Wyard, NEVHC’s Chief Executive Officer, for her remarkable 50 years of service and leadership. While the afternoon was filled with celebration and nostalgia it was during this special event that Ms. Wyard announced her heartfelt decision to retire. In addition to Ms. Wyard’s moving speech, guests heard from Dr. Juan Vargas of Kaiser Permanente, who also serves as NEVHC’s Board Chair, and Congressman Tony Cárdenas. The event featured opportunities to connect, collaborate and contribute to our vision for the future. The CEO Luncheon will now serve as an annual platform for sharing major announcements and strengthening community partnerships.
As I prepare to close this remarkable chapter after 50 years at Northeast Valley Health Corporation (NEVHC), I find myself filled with deep gratitude and pride. It has been the honor of a lifetime to serve alongside so many dedicated individuals in pursuit of a shared mission: to ensure quality, compassionate health care for those who need it most.
When I first walked through the doors of NEVHC in 1974, we were a small but determined organization with a bold vision. Today, we are one of the largest community health centers in the nation - serving more than 83,000 patients annually across 18 health centers. This growth has never been about numbers alone. It has been about standing firm in our belief that health care is a right, not a privilege. It has been about building trust, expanding access and removing barriers - especially for those who have been historically underserved.
Throughout the years, I have witnessed the resilience of our patients, the brilliance of our staff, and the unwavering commitment of our partners and supporters to not only expand access to care but to ensure it is quality healthcare. I’ve seen what is possible when community health is prioritized - when equity, inclusion and dignity guide every decision. These values have been the foundation of my leadership and the heartbeat of NEVHC.
As I step away, I do so with full confidence in the next generation of leaders who will carry this work forward. Our future is bright because it is grounded in purpose and powered by people who care deeply. My journey at NEVHC has been more than a career - it has been a calling, a family and a lifelong source of inspiration.
Thank you for the opportunity to lead, to serve and to grow. I will forever be part of this incredible community.
With gratitude and hope,
Thank you for being a part of our journey. Together, we will continue to be a catalyst of change and create healthier communities. Like everything else, “It takes a Village.”

NEVHC was proud to celebrate National Health Center Week (NHCW)1 by unveiling its new and upgraded Mobile Health Center—a milestone in expanding care for people experiencing homelessness (PEH).
Donors, elected officials, NEVHC staff and executives gathered at El Cariso Regional Park in Sylmar to celebrate this achievement in community health care. NEVHC’s CEO Kim Wyard, Clinical Administrator Kathy Proctor, Congressman Tony Cardenas and Councilwoman Monica Rodriguez provided remarks to recognize this accomplishment.
Ms. Wyard highlighted the profound impact of mobile health services, “Our Mobile Health Center is more than just a medical facility on wheels; it is a beacon of hope and a testament to our commitment to healthcare equity. It symbolizes our dedication to meeting people

where they are and addressing the unique challenges they face with compassion and respect.”
By meeting people where they are, the Mobile Health Center eliminates many barriers that PEH often face
when seeking health services, including access and transportation. Homelessness often comes with increased health problems, including chronic illnesses, mental health issues and substance abuse disorders. The lack of stable housing exacerbates these conditions, making it difficult for individuals to access consistent and comprehensive care, causing many PEH to turn to emergency departments despite being costly and unsuitable for ongoing care. Additionally, Los Angeles County’s sprawling geography and the constant movement required for survival make it even more challenging for PEH to reach traditional healthcare facilities. Mobile health centers eliminate many of these barriers by delivering essential services directly to those in need. Its accessibility and compassionate staff are essential to caring for the hardest-to-reach community members and reducing emergency room visits.
NEVHC’s new state-of-the-art mobile health center replaces NEVHC’s original mobile unit that began serving PEH in 2007. Over the years, the original mobile unit sustained significant deterioration, requiring costly repairs and temporary shutdowns. These regular disruptions negatively impacted NEVHC’s ability to consistently serve PEH.
The new mobile health center is equipped with a stronger air conditioner, a wheelchair lift, an intake area, two exam rooms, a restroom, a larger lab and areas for vitals and
medication distribution. It will provide comprehensive services, including: adult physical exams, STI screening and treatment, HIV testing, chronic condition management, vaccinations, behavioral health support, substance use disorder counseling, and more.
The new mobile health center is just one aspect of NEVHC’s broader commitment to caring for PEH. In addition to mobile services, NEVHC operates health centers dedicated to serving PEH and conducts outreach initiatives. NEVHC is also the lead agency for the Cooperative Health Care for the Homeless Network (CHCHN), collaborating with and distributing federal pass-through funds to eight (8) external agencies that serve homeless residents throughout Los Angeles County. These funds increase access to medical, dental, case management and substance use disorder treatment for over 21,000 PEH.
NEVHC’s commitment to breaking down barriers to care for PEH reflects its mission to provide compassionate, high-quality healthcare to the most vulnerable members of the community and ensures everyone has access to the care they need to live healthier lives.

In 2024, NEVHC’s Van Nuys Pediatric Health Center celebrated 25 years of providing quality healthcare to our communities. This specialized health center opened in May of 1999, conveniently located across from the former Northridge Hospital Medical CenterSherman Way campus where NEVHC patients delivered their babies. By opening this health center so close to the hospital, NEVHC provided easy access to healthcare for these newborns.
Through the years, the Van Nuys Pediatric Health Center has expanded in space and services to increase healthcare access. One aspect that makes this health center innovative and unique is that pediatric healthcare and the Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) services are offered in the same place, providing busy parents with a “one-stop shop” location for all services. It is currently
one of only two NEVHC health centers with this model. Co-location allows the pediatric clinic team and the WIC team to collaborate more easily and communicate seamlessly, and it also encourages more referrals between the programs. In many ways, sharing this space means easier access for community members to crucial services.
In 2019, NEVHC introduced the Medical-Dental Integration model, which ensures that pediatric patients receive oral health exams from dental staff during their medical visits. Along with providing a dental assessment, dentists apply fluoride varnish on the teeth of children under six, and discuss oral hygiene education, including setting self-management goals. Its success can be seen in the rising number of patient visits. Today, Van Nuys Pediatric Health Center sees over 12,000 visits per year.
NEVHC is proud to celebrate 25 years of Van Nuys Pediatric Health Center being a pillar of the Van Nuys community. It is not just the wide range of services, but the dedication of the staff that makes this health center special.
“Van Nuys Pediatrics is one of my favorite health centers for seeing patients. Many of the staff, from those in the front office to the pediatricians, have been with NEVHC for decades and are very committed to their patients and community,” said Dr. Gina Johnson, Medical Director of Pediatrics.
NEVHC looks forward to celebrating more milestones in 2025, including the 50th anniversary of Pacoima Health Center, the expansion of the Santa Clarita Health Center and the opening of a new health center in the San Fernando valley.
