Mercury stops marking the end and the beginning of the Shadow. The zodiac inside the Shadow zone is traversed three times by Mercury – forward, backward, and forward again. This back and forth motion is like our mental process during the period. We review and rethink, rehearse and replay. From time to time, inner dialogue is confused with our actual spoken words, so we think we’ve said something but we’ve only thought about saying it. Mercury takes 88 days to go around the Sun. So in one year it does four orbits and there are usually three retrograde periods in a year. In 2014 it will be from 7th February to 28th February (in Pisces and Aquarius). Then 7th June to 1st July (in Cancer and Gemini), and 5th October to 26th October (in Scorpio and Libra). Add a two-week shadow period before and after to these dates and you have a guide to not stuffing up communications. One third of the year is usually retrograded. So put the dates in your diary after you read this, especially if you run a business. You will then understand why they heard you wrong and be more careful with your words.
