about veloheld
2007 gründeten wir unsere kleine Dresdner Rad-Manufaktur mit der Idee, auf wesentliche Merkmale reduzierte Räder zu schaffen, die durch Schnelligkeit, Wendigkeit und stilsichere Schlichtheit bestechen. Wir, das sind Marco, David und Carsten – drei Produktdesigner und Radliebhaber. Als Marco und Carsten 2007 noch im Studium den Entschluss fassten etwas „Eigenes auf die Beine (bzw. Räder)“ zu stellen, war schnell klar, dass es sich hierbei um Fahrräder handeln sollte. Die Ursprungsidee, den alten „Helden“ unser Jugend zu huldigen, wurde dann doch nur auf den Namen übertragen, denn wer wollte schon ein „Olaf Ludwig“ oder „Michael Hübner“ Rad kaufen. Aber warum in die Vergangenheit schauen, da in Wirklichkeit jeder ein Held ist, der mit seinem Rad unterwegs ist. Dabei spielt es für uns keine Rolle, ob eine Stadt oder sogar ein ganzer Kontinent durchquert wird.
Beginning with an idea of producing bicycles reduced to their main features that would be fast, agile and confidently stylish in their simplicity, we founded our small bike manufacture in Dresden in 2007. “We”? That would be Marco, David and Carsten – three product designers and bike enthusiasts. In 2007 it became clear that when Marco and Carsten made up their minds during their studies to “get something going” (or rolling for that matter) it would have to be bicycles. The original idea to pay homage to the old “heroes” (German: Helden) of our youth, however, was only transferred onto the product’s name – after all, who would want to buy a bike called “Olaf Ludwig” or “Michael Hübner”?! But why take a trip down memory lane if anyone who is riding a bike is a hero, whether it is a city or an entire continent they are traversing.

Fast, agile and pure – the veloheld.alley, our urban classic, enters its fifth series in 2012/13. There will only be 100 of these complete bikes in this series. With the bike’s number milled on the bottom bracket shell it will last for a bike’s lifetime.

veloheld.path Mit dem veloheld.path bringen wir die jüngste MTB-Entwicklung clever in die Stadt. Ein 29 Zoll MTB als Stadtrad? Warum nicht! Neben den Größen S und M, welche es mit den gewohnten 26 Zoll Laufrädern gibt, haben wir den Größen L und XL „große“ Räder spendiert. Der Rahmen ist für viele Schaltoptionen vorbereitet. Sogar der Gates Riemenantrieb kann in Verbindung mit einer Nabenschaltung hier für den Vortrieb sorgen, während Scheibenbremsen diesen wieder stoppen. Serienmäßig gibt es den eigens von uns entwickelten Gepäckträger für den kleinen Transport in der Stadt. Wer es sportlicher mag, kann diesen ohne Probleme demontieren und das Rad gemäß seines Ursprungs durch Wälder und Wiesen jagen.
We bring the latest development in the MTB world to the city with the veloheld.path – a 29” MTB as a city bike? Why not! Besides our frame sizes S and M, which are available with the common 26” wheel sets, we treated the L and XL-sized bikes to “big” wheels. A variety of gear options are possible for the frame. You can even combine it with the Gates belt drive and internal hub to generate propulsion while disk brakes will safely stop it again. As standard, a carrier – exclusively developed and built for us – helps you with small transports within the city. Those who prefer a sportier look can easily dismantle the carrier and speed through woods and meadows as originally intended for MTBs.

The awesome features of the “big wheels” are common knowledge by now and just perfect for a tour in the undergrowth. After a long trial phase we finally built the perfect frame. A short wheel stand facilitates the bike’s handling on any trail. Should you get “too close” to the ground nonetheless, the bent down tube will prevent the fork crown from hitting the frame. A 44mm head tube enables you to mount an extra-stiff “tapered” fork. And with the eccentric bottom bracket (EBB) you will have a wide variety of possible setups for your bike: singlespeed, internal hub or classic chain drive after all. Let’s get started!

Kurze und knackige Querfeldein-Rennen in verschiedenen Modi verkürzen die Zeit bis die Tage wieder länger werden, sorgen für ein geselliges Zusammensein und zeigen unsere Begeisterung für diese Form des Geländesports.

Our frames are manufactured by expert frame builders in Taiwan and are made solely from high-end alloy steel. In comparison to other materials such as aluminium, titan or carbon fiber, energy input is relatively low for the production of chrome molybdenum steel and due to its almost perfect properties the compound is also particularly fit to be used as bike frames. Through regular visits and inspections we pay heed to socially and environmentally responsible production conditions. Although most of our bikes’ components/parts are also produced in Taiwan and thus do not have to travel far, a supervision of production conditions proves to be harder here as some suppliers do not disclose their exact production processes. However, together with the other manufacturers we are currently working on improved transparency.
