dimanche midi,oui ma chérie

So,,,,, Sunday and a brand new venue, at the old Assembly Rooms on Fenkle Sreet.

Newcastle seems to be exploding with great places to go, right now so don’t miss out on this one. With it’s impeccable, well groomed staff and surprisingly affordable food Bonbar is full of surprises.

But before I tell you how fabulous the food is let me tell you, that while you can order a bottle of bubbly at Bonbar, that will cost you around seven hundred pounds, truth be told the excellent cocktails range between six and eight pounds, and the wine, between fifteen and forty pounds. So if you want to splurge go ahead splurge away, but you don’t have to Bonbar have got the mix perfectly right, here. I did say on the opening night that this place would hold its own in London Paris or Barcelona.

With that in mind, imagine my surprise to find out that a three course Sunday lunch will cost you just sixteen English pounds. I ordered the roast Northumbrian beef which was served in two huge slices of lovely pink, rare, melt in the mouth meat, savoy cabbage, roast mixed vegetables and buttery mash.

For Kyla rolled pork loin again perfectly executed, with light fluffy Yorkshire puddings, extra gravy and great house wine.

Not a trace of grey boil in the bag meat or mushy vegetables here, just great food friendly staff and beautiful surroundings l

Throughout the space, Sohe have blended modern and bold Asian design with organic and sensual elements with a surprise or two along the way making it exude personality.

This cutting-edge design stimulates and awakens the senses and sets the stage for the inspired cuisine of Martin Moore, Head chef at Sohe, and expert in contemporary in Asian cuisine.

The Cairn Group along with General Manager, Sarah Harker and Head Chef Martin Moore have spent months working on preparations for the new restaurant concept and it shows.

“To us dining isn’t just about a plate of incredible food; the overall restaurant experience has become more and more important in recent years,” explaines Sarah. “It’s not just the food that must reflect our vision and our ‘vibe’, but everything that surrounds our diners too.

From the bar to the chairs and the walls to the lighting, everything at Sohe has been specially created and that takes time. This provides our diners with a sense inspiring experience in sight, taste and touch.”

With more than 14 years experience Martin’s culinary style draws inspiration from his love of Asian cuisine, his relaxed approach and five star hotel background along with his skills at blending flavors of the east, has led to Martin’s interpretation of modern Asian street cuisine.

“The cuisine at Sohe pushes the boundaries and goes beyond everything I have ever created. I am introducing new preparations and new ingredients,” said Martin.

“It’ll be a fusion of the senses through taste, touch and smell with a large measure of North East spirit to create a high energy, sophisticated, yet impressive dining experience.”

As if the food and the décor weren’t enough The imposing yet welcoming island bar, with crisp white marble tops, opulent mosaics and an undulating gilt sculptural ceiling to floor feature, greets guests as they enter. Serving bespoke handcrafted and take it from me frankly fabulous cocktails, a small but perfectly formed wine list and the finest teas

There is also a separate private dining room for up to 12 people. Enchantingly lit, the secluded space radiates a soft light, creating a relaxed, luxurious, intimate atmosphere.

So whether you are after a few drinks with friends or some fabulous food Sohe is a must.

I can highly recommend the mixed tempura and the nasi goreng and personally I can’t wait to go back to try more of their exciting cocktails and experiment with mouthwatering Asian food. Sohe…… Soooo Good. But don’t take our word for it get over there l
