KIDS LET THE KIDS
T
For ten years, Lane Cove Bush Kids has been teaching young children how to understand and appreciate the life and leaf of their natural environment.
THE Lane Cove Bushland and Conservation Society was originally established to help protect the beautiful flora and fauna in the area from the ravages of urban development and neglect, as well as to share knowledge and encourage interaction with the bush and its creatures. Three Society members, who were also mothers of young children, got together in 2010 to establish a bush care program for children. Bushkids was an instant success and many young bush-lovers discovered the wonders of their native surrounds and learned how to keep them wonderful. The program was expanded in 2016 when the Society teamed up with Lane Cove Council. It is now one of the most popular activities for young children in Lane Cove. Bush-lovers as young as 2 and up to 10 years old can join a session and get close and personal with cicadas, beetles, tadpoles, or butterflies. They can engage their senses and discover the scents, textures, sounds, colours (but perhaps not flavours!)
GO WILD
of the bush. Bushkids is a beautiful bonding experience for children, and between children and the adults who accompany them. It is also a way to engender an appreciation and respect for the natural environment from a young age. Programs such as this help build pride in community as well as confidence in young individuals. Bushkids runs programs throughout the year with extra activities during school holidays. Every child must be accompanied by an adult who should include themselves when booking a session (adults are not charged to attend).
