PATRON SAINT
THE PATRON SAINT AWARD GOES TO... GEORGE PRELOCK
The Patron Saint Award is the greatest honor Notre Dame Prep bestows on a member of our community. Recipients of the annual Patron Saint Award are
those who have given selflessly of themselves for the betterment of our
school; they embody our pillars of reverence, respect and responsibility, and they are fully committed to the mission of our school and the Catholic
Church. The 2018-19 recipient was George Prelock.
Prelock wears many “hats” at Notre Dame Prep, and his impact on our school is far-reaching. He might best be known as the head coach for
our varsity football team. He joined the English department and football coaching staff in 2004 and has amassed an 85-34-1 record (at the time this article was written).
There is much more to him than
teaching and football. “George was a stabilizing force at the times our community needed him the most,” said Matt Rylski, NDP director of admissions and student life. “His positive attitude and genuine caring for students and co-workers makes him a truly loved member of Notre Dame Prep.”
In 2015, Prelock was named director
of the St. Aloysius Gonzaga Program for students who demonstrate academic
promise but require additional help in math and English to be successful. “Anytime you can help students achieve their goals, it is extremely rewarding,” Prelock said. “I love watching students discover their potential.”
It’s no wonder that the students in
his House chose St. George as their patron saint. As a Head of House, Prelock is able to interact and share
his faith journey with students he might not otherwise know.
“Being Head of House is an opportunity to have a positive impact on the student community,” he said. “I have an outstanding partner in Brooke Dauphinais. Together we do our best to build our House into a family.”
NDP alumnus Jake Farrell served
as a captain for St. George House, quarterback of the Saints’ varsity football team and is one of Prelock’s
former students. “Coach Prelock
has really helped me grow in faith,” said Farrell who went on two Kairos
retreats with his mentor. “When I came
to Notre Dame Prep, I didn’t really believe in God, but Coach Prelock is
such a faith-filled person that his light is contagious.”
In addition to his faith, students
are also drawn to Prelock’s sense of
humor, trustworthiness and honesty. “He just has a way of making you feel like you can do anything,” Farrell added. “He taught me to trust myself and my abilities.”
No matter in which role you see Prelock — teacher, colleague or coach — he is always a thoughtful person and loyal Saint of the highest caliber. “He bleeds purple and gold,” Rylski added.
