House System

THE HOUSE SYSTEM

We fully implemented the House System in 2018-19 to foster faith, growth and community building with everyone on campus. The House System engages our student body, faculty and staff in acceptance and understanding, and it brought our school together as 10 Houses — yet one community of Saints.

Throughout the year, House competitions demonstrated enthusiasm and a desire for each House to host the best event, achieve the highest GPA, show the most school spirit and give the most to charity.

From Minute to Win It to NDP’s Got Talent, our House Captains came up with fun and exciting competitions to show which House could best showcase their members’ hidden talents. St. Michael House hosted a

Thanksgiving celebration in November with games and food on the practice field, which gave students a chance to relax and count their blessings. St. Patrick House did a similar event on St. Patrick’s Day.

The Houses banded together on $5 jeans days to raise money for charities such as disaster relief through Catholic Relief Services, Feed My Starving Children and Habitat for Humanity. Competition increased the amount raised for charities last year, and our school received heartfelt letters of thanks from the organizations receiving our donations. In the end, St. Maximilian Kolbe House earned the title as the first

ever House of the Year and garnered the first House Cup under the leadership of House Captains Jia Coffou and James Garrison.

“The inaugural year of the House System exceeded my expectations,” said Mary Lou Lachvayder, director of the House System. “Our Heads of House and House Captains truly embraced the objectives we set for House System and went way beyond what I could imagine.”
