The Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust Care Homes Team provide free educa on/training, support, advice and signpos ng for sta in nursing and residen al homes, supported/assisted living environments and home care agencies across North Devon.

Care Homes Team Educators The team are employed by Northern Devon Healthcare Trust (NDHCT) and comprise nurses and occupa2onal therapists dedicated to providing educa2on and training suppor2ng the social care workforce within North Devon. A pharmacist supports the team to provide guidance on medica2on management in care homes.

Aims of the team The aims of the team are to support the independent care sector in delivering meaningful, safe, effec2ve, high quality care, keeping people in their own home.

Service Agreement A Service Agreement ensures that specific roles and responsibili2es and expecta2ons are clearly defined.

Educa on/Training Person centred educa2on/training sessions are offered to complement mandatory training which is the responsibility of the service provider. A cer2ficate of a endance will be provided.

Study Days and Workshops In addi2on to the educa2on/training packages offered; there is a programme of free half/full day workshops and study days delivered in collabora2on with local and na2onal experts in various venues across North Devon.

Working Collabora vely and Signpos ng The team work collabora2vely with many organisa2ons to support the delivery of high quality, safe and effec2ve care, signpos2ng service providers to appropriate members of the mul2-disciplinary team if their exper2se is required.

Who is the educa on/training session for?

Depending on the topic sessions are open to carers, trained nurses, ancillary staff, service users and/or rela2ves.

Educa on/Training Sessions Sessions are delivered within the service environment and we offer flexibility to fit around the needs of staff and service users.

Sessions last around two and a half hours and can be delivered from Monday to Friday between 9:00 am - 5:00 pm (excluding bank holidays).

Resources will be provided to complement the educa2on/training session.

Training topics can be requested based on iden2fied needs within the service. Core training topics include preven2on of: Falls, Pressure Damage, Sepsis and UTI’s and Understanding Demen2a as these have been iden2fied as common reasons for hospital admissions.

Care Homes Team Conference The Conference offers learning on a broad range of subjects where na2onal and local speakers from a wide range of disciplines share their skills and exper2se. The conference offers networking and sharing of best prac2ce.

Peer Supervision Network (Registered Managers/Clinical Leads) Peer supervision allows protected 2me in a safe environment for reflec2ve discussions regarding prac2ce. Supervision can have mutual benefit to both supervisor and supervisee resul2ng in personal, professional and service development. By joining up to our Supervision Network we can help match you with a similar role and service in close in proximity to your loca2on.

Local Involvement Network - LINk Groups Topic specific LINk groups are facilitated by the team to share relevant up-to-date informa2on and best prac2ce.

Registered Managers’ Mee ngs Quarterly Registered Managers’ Mee2ngs facilitated by the team are held in collabora2on with Skills for Care. These mee2ngs are Chaired by a Registered Manager and offer the opportunity to discuss current issues and best prac2ce with peers in a safe environment.

Kitchen Table (NHS England) The annual Kitchen Table Event offers the opportunity for organisa2ons to have conversa2ons sharing best prac2ce to work safely and effec2vely.
