30 YEARS OF MAC CELEBRATING

As we celebrate the 30th anniversary of the NC State Jenkins Master of Accounting (MAC) Program, we not only commemorate three decades of excellence, but also embrace the future we're crafting together Reflecting on our journey, from the pioneering class of 1994 under Bob Peace's guidance to our vibrant, ever-evolving community today, we see a legacy of ambition, innovation and community
This document is more than a history—it's a testament to our collective achievements and the exciting road ahead As we look forward to the next chapters of our story, your feedback, as always, remains our guiding light Together, we're not just navigating the future of accounting we're defining it.
These achievements would not be possible without the significant efforts and support of the MAC faculty and staff They provide the challenging and family oriented environment our program is noted for.
Thank you for being an integral part of our journey Here's to continued success, innovation, and connection
In our most recent years, we’ve boldly expanded our horizons to meet the evolving needs of the accounting profession.
We launched the online MAC format, increasing accessibility and nearly doubling our enrollment.
Our annual MAC Celebration has become a signature event, honoring our distinguished alumni and friends who contribute tirelessly to our success.
The introduction of the Accelerated Bachelor’s/Master’s Degree program and the ASAP Online Pre-requisite Program for non-accounting majors has created new paths to a MAC degree and welcomed greater diversity.
Our commitment to MAC for Life is reflected in our newest program, Lifelong Learning, which allows MAC alumni and friends to earn CPE while reconnecting with the Wolfpack community.
Through continuous curricular innovation, like integrating data analytics throughout the MAC program and adding an academic track focused on business and industry, we ensure our graduates are not just prepared for the future—they are leading it.
Our STEM designation has opened up more career opportunities for our graduates.
NC State enrolls its inaugural class of 32 MAC students in the fall, offering a curriculum designed to meet the emerging 150-hour CPA licensure requirement (120 hours from an undergraduate degree, plus 30 hours from the MAC program), thereby significantly enhancing the qualifications of new CPAs Dr Robert (Bob) Peace serves as the MAC Program’s first director
The MAC Program welcomes Katherine Hansen as assistant director, significantly boosting its career development and internship opportunities With her deep insights from the public accounting sector, Hansen expands the program's connections to the industry, increasing student placements in public accounting firms.
By formalizing the internship process, students gain essential real-world experience before graduation, reinforcing the program's reputation for producing highly skilled and workplace-ready graduates
In 2000, Frank Buckless is named head of the Accounting Department, and around that same time, faculty and administration begin a push for more real-world experience for students Classes evolve to plug into that idea, offering practicums, case studies and other opportunities to give students the practical experience needed to succeed upon graduation.
Everybody was so supportive of everyone else that’s the thing that stuck out to me they cared about each other, they weren’t just in it for themselves.
C.J. Skender, former faculty member
The MAC program began with two clear tracks tax and audit but faculty quickly realize that employers want to see graduates with both technical and soft skills
In a significant curriculum overhaul to meet market demands, the MAC Program expands the number of required courses to eight core courses plus two electives, marking an evolution from a traditional focus to a dynamic approach reflecting the program's commitment to equipping students with practical skills and insights into the complexities of financial management in the modern market
Beginning in 2005, Krawcyzk leads additional curricular changes, first expanding the 30hour program to 31 hours with the addition of ACC 600 Managerial and Career Effectiveness as a required course
Kathy Krawczyk becomes the program's second director and initiates a period of significant growth in professional staff focused on career services, admissions and communications, as well as student enrollment The program grows to accommodate 120 students
Krawczyk formalizes a MAC Orientation, and it has evolved every year, expanding significantly in 2018 to become a two-day experience
The MAC Program launches three optional concentrations (now called specializations) to address evolving industry needs: Information Technology (2005), Enterprise Risk Management (2007), and Tax Strategy (2012) These additions allow students to specialize in critical areas, enhancing their expertise and marketability in the fast-changing accounting landscape
The MAC Program earns its first official ranking, No 23 in the Public Accounting Report Since that time, the MAC Program has been a consistent presence among the top-ranked MAC programs nationwide
We evolved the program to meet what we thought were the industry needs. That was very different from other MAC programs.
Kathy Krawcyzk, former MAC program director and professor emeritus

There are so many doors that open to students through our career activities I get really excited and proud when we help students reach their goals
