Q3 2025

Shechem Home was filled with love and new beginnings in quarter 3 We cared for 22 wonderful children, 4 boys and 18 girls, ages 3 to 13 We opened our arms to 11 newly rescued children, giving them a safe place to rest, heal, and feel cared for. Two of our dear children were connected with another childcare center where they can receive the special support they need to continue growing strong
This quarter, the children joined an orientation on online safety They learned about Online Sexual Abuse & Exploitation of Children (OSAEC) and Child Sexual Abuse & Exploitation Materials (CSAEM) which protects them from online dangers Through discussions and activities, the children learned how to stay safe online, recognize risks, and ask for help if they ever feel unsafe The session helped them understand their rights and how to protect themselves, reminding everyone that their safety is always the top priority

This quarter, Shechem Home held “Facing My Feelings” sessions, where children continued to explore their emotions through play, art, and creative activities. With the tremendous support of our Danish social work intern and a volunteer, each child expressed unique needs, and the sessions provided a safe space for growth and self-expression.
In the first session, the children focused on relaxation and becoming more aware of their bodies. By the second session, they began sharing their feelings through art and an emotions board. In the third session, new friendships were formed, and the children supported each other while expressing themselves
These sessions help children better understand their emotions, practice self-regulation, and build confidence, all within a fun and caring environment
Shechem continued psychosocial support sessions to strengthen staff skills in assisting survivors, alongside individual coaching to inspire professional growth and goal-setting Our family social worker and a house parent attended a training on supporting teens’ social lives and online safety with Masayang Pamilya Organization, learning strategies for parenting, teen relationships, and digital safety. Five house parents and two security staff attended a sensory integration training by Alternative Learing Resource School Philippines (ALRES) This initiative will include a series of training sessions led by ALRES in collaboration with WTRC to establish the Sensory Room for Shechem
The purpose of this learning series is to understand children’s emotions, behaviors, and sensory profiles These initiatives enhance staff knowledge, understanding, improve care, and reinforce Shechem’s commitment to professional development and child-centered support. Meet our new Social Worker!

When Den first arrived at the center, he was shy and unsure, often keeping to himself and quietly watching others play. But even in his silence, his gentle heart shone through. He cared deeply for his two younger siblings, always making sure they were safe and looked after. With patience, love, and encouragement from the house parents and staff, Den slowly found his voice. He began making friends, joining games, and sharing laughter with the other children.
Today, Den is helpful, thoughtful, and responsible. He assists with chores, joins grocery trips, and continues to care for his siblings From a quiet boy in the corner to a confident, caring helper, Den’s journey reminds us that love, support, and patience can help any child flourish
Sheryl has always been deeply devoted to her youngest daughter, now five and staying at Shechem. She cared for her full-time, even leaving her bakery job to be present during her early school years. Her world changed when she learned her daughter was a victim-survivor of OSAEC. The sudden separation left her heartbroken and confused Months later, their first family call brought her overwhelming relief Today, the family attends psychoeducation sessions, finding clarity and hope as they prepare for reunification They look forward to healing together and spending peaceful time with relatives in the province.
