Overview

Work-Based Learning gives students real-work experiences in the community through paid work, volunteering, internships, job-shadowing and apprenticeships. The purpose of this quarterly newsletter is to share many of the WBL activities happening in the district by featuring Newton County community partners, a calendar of upcoming events, and other important WBL information. @ncsswbl

Newton County Chamber of Commerce

Thank you to the Newton Chamber for allowing our WBL students to talk about their WBL experiences. The students did an amazing job! Great way to wrap up CTAE month.

Aspiring Young Professionals Dinner

Cheers to a fantastic night at the, Newton College and Career Academy, Aspiring Young Professionals (AYP) dinner, honoring the dedication of WorkBased Learning (WBL) associates and their outstanding employers!

We would like to recognize Ms. Loineda Peters CTI instructor at Newton College and Career Academy and Ms. Serrita Carr WBL/CTI Coordinator for Newton High School.

CTI students attended a Gwinnett Gladiators game on February 13 at Atlanta Gas South Arena.

Eastside CTI hosted a series High School High Tech "Lunch and Learns" to get students ready for life after graduation: Financial Literacy, Social Media Safety and Building SelfAdvocacy Skills. Students enjoyed ChickFilA meals while learning important life skills from the pros.

Eastside CTI student Axel Garcia was named CTI Student of the Year of Newton County.

Mock Interviews

During the week of March 11 students at Newton College and Career Academy participated in mock interviews from the community. These interviews were in person and virtual.

Thank you to Ms. Keisha Turner, Sr. Human Resources Business Partner at Takeda for kicking off day 1 of mock interviews for WBL students.

Career Expo 2024

On February 7, 2024 Newton College and Career Academy had their annual Career Expo. This year’s theme was “Reach for the Stars”. This year there were over 25 businesses that attended.
