Updates for Newton County Schools Work-Based Learning Program

Overview Work-Based Learning gives students real-work experiences in the community through paid work, volunteering, internships, job-shadowing and apprenticeships. The purpose of this quarterly newsletter is to share many of the WBL activities happening in the district by featuring Newton County community partners, a calendar of upcoming events, and other important WBL information.

Thankfulness

Thank you to our local Chick-Fil-A stores who partner with our WBL Program. Several student team members have worked their way up to leadership roles.

Thank you to Firehouse Subs for partnering with the WBL program again this year.

Thankful for the continued partnership with Takeda Pharmaceutical. Associate Director of Microbiology Melody Etheridge visited Ms. Axson's Intro to Healthcare class to discuss pivoting into health careers.

Special Recognition Award

Newton High School WBL Coordinator Serrita Carr was recognized at the Georgia WBL Conference at Lake Lanier November 17, 2024. She was recognized for completing the WBL Top Gun Training Program. This was a week-long professional development training that only a select group of coordinators across the State of Georgia are chosen for. We are so proud of Ms. Carr for this major accomplishment!

On Wednesday, November 15, 2023 , NCCA hosted their annual Networking Luncheon!

It was a fantastic success!

Dining Ettiquette

In preparation for NCCA’s Annual Networking Luncheon and the upcoming WBL Aspiring Young Professionals (AYP) Dinner, WBL students received dining etiquette training from Newton County 4-H Extension Agent Charlene Scott.

WBL students receive valuable employability skills training throughout the year as they work towards GeorgiaBEST@Work Certification. Ms. Scott reviewed choosing the proper utensils while eating and conversational skills. WBL students will be graded on their ability to network, dress professionally and dine properly at both events. The WBL Aspiring Young Professionals (AYP) Dinner is returning this year and will be held at NCCA January 17, 2024 at 6:00 p.m. Business and community leaders are invited.

Progress Pulse: Highlights from Our Recent Activities

Our CTI students recently showcased their talents and leadership at the Annual CTI Fall Leadership Conference in Columbus, GA. Among the attendees were students from Alcovy High School and Eastside High School, bringing energy and enthusiasm to the event.

The conference, designed to foster leadership skills and community connections, featured engaging workshops, inspiring speakers, and networking opportunities. Our students not only embraced these experiences but also explored the vibrant city of Columbus, adding an adventurous flair to their leadership journey.

The camaraderie and passion exhibited by our students exemplify the strength of our CTI community. We're excited to share more updates on their impactful initiatives and achievements in the upcoming newsletters.

In the Spotlight: Our Latest Achievements Unveiled

CTI students, spanning various schools, united at the annual Fall Leadership Conference in Columbus, GA. This event was a hub for valuable leadership experiences, networking, and skillbuilding. It not only created unity among CTI participants but also provided a dynamic environment for enhancing leadership capabilities. Students gained insights, teamwork skills, and established connections crucial for personal and professional growth. This collaborative experience underscores CTI's dedication to preparing students for success beyond the classroom.
