Reading for pleasure is important for language learning and personal development (Clark & Rumbolt, 2006). A team of English Language teachers observed that their Secondary 1 to 3 students had low reading interest and needed to be encouraged to read. The team inquired into how these reluctant readers could be motivated to read. They designed an extensive reading programme guided by their analysis of their students’ reading interests and preferences.
