Your wedding ceremony – the moment when you say ‘I do’ to the person you love – is the most important part of your big day. So your first choice, if you don’t opt for a church wedding, is who you want to conduct your ceremony – a celebrant or a registrar?

It's a common misconception that a celebrant costs a lot more than a registrar. In truth, the average price is pretty similar - but what you get for your money is very different.

To hire a registrar to conduct your wedding ceremony at a licensed venue in Manchester on a Saturday will set you back a whopping £601.50 plus £40 booking fee. It's £100 cheaper on a weekday and 'only' £377.50 if you tie the knot in the register office, but still, that's a lot of money.

How does that compare to a celebrant-led ceremony? Well, prices differ between celebrants but around £650 seems to be the average for northern celebrants. Obviously, couples have to officially register their marriages beforehand - like you would a birth or death. This costs £68.50 in Manchester, bringing the total to £718.50 - just £77 more than a registrar.

So, what do you get for that extra £77? Let's break it down.

1. A registrar will typically meet you at the register office once before the wedding to check your details are correct and they have the right music, readings etc in the right order. It's also feasible that the person you meet won't be the person conducting the ceremony on the day.

VS

A celebrant will spend time getting to know you as a couple, how you met, your likes and dislikes, your ideas for your wedding and how you want your love story to be told. They will come to you, or a venue of your choice, and may meet up more than once to finalise details. And it will always be them on the day.

2. A registrar reads from a set ceremony script and has limited freedom to personalise your ceremony. You can have readings and/or music but these can't be religious in any way - and don't forget the strict time limit!

Your registrar will probably be marrying several couples on your big day and will need to be out the door asap.

VS

A celebrant will create a unique, bespoke ceremony for you that you can amend and add to until you are 100% happy with it. It can include religious elements, such as prayers or hymns, if you want them, too. This is a labour of love that can take many hours. They are also flexible on time to accommodate your exact wishes and will never book two weddings on the same day - their time is all yours.

3. A registrar-led wedding can only be held in venues that are licensed for marriages.

VS

With a celebrant you can literally have your wedding ceremony anywhere, including non-licensed venues such as private houses or gardens, a beach or on top of a mountain!

So, for an extra £77 you get time, creativity, uniqueness, flexibility, the personal touch and the knowledge that the person conducting your ceremony cares about you and your big day. Sounds like a bargain to me.

The Importance of Getting to Know Your Wedding Chef

Your wedding day is one of the most memorable days of your life, and you deserve to have every detail just right —the food is no exception. Of course, choosing a venue, the perfect dress, and a photographer who will capture those magical moments are essential parts of the planning process, but so is selecting the right catering. Getting to know your chef can make a huge difference in your overall experience: by understanding you, they can deliver not just great, delicious food, but a complete dining experience.

Founded by Jacquie Keeley, Fab Food For You has delivered delicious catering for the last 15 years, but the journey started with a wonderful working relationship across many years prior to its creation. In the early days, Jacquie was working alongside the incredible Jane Dunn as her assistant, a Guild of British Master Chefs member. She spent many years helping to deliver hugely popular cookery courses, inspiring food lovers with her expertise.

For 25 years, she was also part of the team setting up, delivering, and serving the renowned Glyndebourne picnics, creating magical dining moments at one of the world’s most prestigious opera festivals.

With many years in the industry, Jacquie understands the importance of your wedding breakfast. It is the first meal you eat together as a married couple in the company of the people you love the most. It is a tradition that dates back to the 17th century when newly married couples would fast before the ceremony and break it during their first meal together. Food has always brought people together, and the right menu creates a lasting impression, contributing to the overall atmosphere of your special day.

The right wedding chef should do more than just cook; they should craft an experience that complements your theme and preferences. By getting to know you, your chef is able toelevate your wedding reception with flavours and presentation that reflect you as a person and as a couple. Fab Food For You prides themselves on a personalised experience that helps you every step of the way.

Building a relationship means better communication and a more personalised dining experience. When you connect with them, you can discuss your vision for the menu, share dietary restrictions, explore creative ideas, and bring it all to life on the day. Here’s why this is so important:

1. Bespoke Menus

Your wedding is unique to you and your partner. By working closely with your chef, you can create a menu that reflects just that. Whether it’s choosing a dish from your first date or ensuring the presentation is just right, an experienced chef will know what works and how to collaborate with you to ensure every guest is well-fed—nobody wants their guests hitting the bar on an empty stomach! 2. Dietary Needs and Preferences

Dietary restrictions, allergies, or specific preferences are common when catering for a large number of guests. Getting to know your chef ensures they understand these needs and can accommodate them without sacrificing taste or quality.

3. Trust and Confidence

The more you engage with your chef, the more you will feel at ease knowing they will take care of your catering needs. You already have enough to think about and organise without worrying about the food. A chef who understands your needs and expectations, with the ability to execute them perfectly, allows you to enjoy your special day stress-free.

Your wedding is a day you pour hours, days, and months into planning—it is special for you both as a couple and for the people you love. You have thought of everything, including the finer details, and your food is no exception. Getting to know your wedding chef is a vital step to ensuring a seamless, enjoyable dining experience. Establishing a connection and trusting their expertise allows you to focus on enjoying the day, knowing that your wedding breakfast is in good hands. After all, love is best celebrated with good company and great food.

Choosing the right wedding flowers for your big day can feel a bit overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be! Start by thinking about the overall vibe you want for your wedding. Are you going for something classic and elegant, or maybe a more relaxed and rustic feel?

Next, consider the season. Different flowers bloom at different times, so you'll want to pick ones that are in season for your wedding date. This can also help you stay within budget since seasonal flowers are often easier to find.

Don’t forget to think about colors! Your flowers should complement your wedding theme and colors. If you have a specific palette in mind, bring that along when you meet with your florist.

And remember, it’s all about what makes you happy. Whether you want a simple bouquet or something more extravagant, choose flowers that reflect your personality and style. Enjoy the process and have fun with it!
