Do You Really Need a Wedding Planner?
Here’s What You Need to Know
By Jo, Wedding Planner at Moments Like This Ltd.
Planning a wedding is one of the most exciting chapters in life—but it can also be one of the most overwhelming. With Pinterest boards overflowing, guest lists growing, and supplier choices around every corner, it’s no wonder couples often ask: “Should we hire a wedding planner?”
As a professional wedding planner, I’ve worked with couples at every stage of the journey—from full-service planning to simply tying up the loose ends on the big day. So, let’s dive into the most common questions I hear and help you decide what’s right for your celebration.
Is it really helpful to hire a wedding planner for a wedding? Absolutely. A wedding planner is your guide, your go-to person, and often your sanity-saver. We handle the logistics, liaise with suppliers, build timelines, and troubleshoot so you don’t have to. Whether you need someone by your side from “yes” to “I do,” or just want help ensuring the day runs smoothly, hiring a planner can transform your experience from stressful to seamless.
Can we plan a successful wedding without a wedding planner? Yes—you can absolutely plan a beautiful wedding yourselves. Many couples do. But planning a wedding is a full-time job in itself, and not everyone has the time or resources to manage it all. If you’re organised, love spreadsheets, and don’t mind juggling emails with cake tastings, then go for it! But if you’d rather focus on enjoying your engagement, a planner can lift that load. Even hiring someone for on-the-day coordination (starting from £1300) can make all the difference.
Ask the expert
What are the wedding planner’s responsibilities?
We do much more than organise your suppliers. A wedding planner can:
Manage your budget
Source and coordinate suppliers
Provide design and styling advice
Create detailed timelines and schedules
Help manage guest lists
Coordinate the day from start to finish
Our ultimate goal? To make the journey enjoyable and the day unforgettable.
How much does a wedding planner cost?
Costs can vary depending on what you’re looking for. At Moments Like This Ltd., my on-the-day coordination starts from £1300, which is ideal for couples who have planned their day but want someone they trust to take the reins. I also offer bespoke planning packages, tailored to suit every couple and every budget. It's all about creating the right level of support for you.

Final thoughts
A wedding planner isn’t just a luxury—they’re an investment in peace of mind. Whether you want hands-on help from the very beginning or just need someone to bring all your hard work together on the big day, having a professional by your side can make the experience more joyful, relaxed, and, most importantly, all about you.
If you’re wondering whether wedding planning support could be right for you, I’d love to chat and explore how we can bring your dream day to life.

Hi! Thank you for stopping by and viewing my profile. My name is Suzanne and I’m an independent celebrant based in Leighton Buzzard, serving Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Northamptonshire and Oxfordshire (but am very happy to travel further afield too!).
I’m here to let you know that by separating your wedding ceremony from the legalities of your paperwork, you really can create the wedding of your dreams! Without the constraints of a registrar-led or religious wedding, your ceremony can happen at any place and at a time that is meaningful to you as a couple, as well as allowing for the freedom to completely personalise your script and add fun elements to your day. After all, your ceremony should set the tone for the rest of the day, not be the boring bit that you want to rush through so that you can move on to the fun stuff!
Every couple's love story is unique and your wedding ceremony should be too. I’m here to work with you to create a personal and fun-filled ceremony that perfectly reflects you as a couple, whether you’re dreaming of a traditional, romantic affair, a quirky and unconventional celebration or anything in between. No awkward moments, no boring scripts, just an individual experience that will have you and your guests smiling, laughing and maybe even shedding a happy tear or two.
Get in touch today and let’s start planning YOUR perfect ceremony!

Ask the expert
What do we get included on the day of our wedding?
My wedding bundles include any combination of music from your guests arriving an hour before your ceremony, your ceremony songs (4 or 5 songs), a couple of hours during your drinks reception, a couple of hours during your wedding breakfast, and an hour or so for your room turnaround. So up to around 5 hours of live music on your wedding day.
How much will a pianist cost?
Prices will vary depending on any travel required, specific setup/arrival/access requirements, if there are multiple venues e.g. church ceremony back to a hotel, the number of specific new songs required (see Q5), how long you want me to play on the day etc. Individual parts of your day can start from £200 while bundles are more attractively priced.
Can we see the musician play live before we book?
Some musicians may play live locally, as of course we can’t easily invite you to someone else’s wedding For all couples, I’ll happily jump on a video call and play a good selection of music so they have a decent chance to get a feel for what it might sound like on the day.
How do we choose what we want played?
I arrange an initial video call around 90 days before your wedding to start chatting all things wedding music. If required, I’ll then either record some music tasters of your key songs, or jump on another call once I’ve learnt any particular songs you might like for your day. In terms of ceremony songs, you pick whatever you want, and give me a feel for the music genres you’d like for the rest of your day.
Ask the expert
What if the pianist does not know what we have picked?
Learning new songs is a natural part of the job as new music is released everyday. Most musicians are happy to learn a couple of new tunes for your wedding, however, do check whether this incurs an additional charge – it will vary, so do make sure you ask that question!
Do you bring your own piano? or do you play on a keyboard?
I carry 3 professional stage pianos to every wedding so I can setup for all parts of your day across one or more venues. No breaks in music, no moving of gear – just live music! Naturally, I’m always happy to play an acoustic (grand) piano if your venue has one – as long as it’s in tune!
