THE FINEST FARM EQUIPMENT FROM AROUND THE WORLD T

here are few machinery firms that can supply almost all of a farm’s key implement needs, whether arable or livestock. But that’s what RECO offers farmers. One hundred and twenty-five years of agricultural experience means the company knows farming inside out. But with new state-of-the-art premises, new import partners and new sales management and marketing appointments announced during recent months, the firm continues to evolve alongside agriculture itself. Founded as far back as 1888, Ruston’s Engineering Company has a

heritage that spans three centuries and can boast associations with some of the world’s most famous farm machinery makes in the fields of grassland and cultivation equipment, as well as grounds care. The firm remains one hundred per cent owned by the Ruston family, with day-to-day management now overseen by managing director John Walls. A seven-strong national team of area managers, headed by sales manager Patrick Desmond, support dealers the length and breadth of the UK with their demonstration needs plus sales support and machinery set-up and servicing advice.

Advice RECO’s dealer network is backed by a modern new company headquarters that boasts extensive supplies of spares for every product from every franchise that the firm works with, plus back-up advice on the end of the phone for both dealers and end users looking for assistance. From its new base, RECO plans to increase the amount of training and information offered to its dealers and end users, making closer and stronger links with both to provide an even better support package.

Company Profile

One of RECO’s oldest partners, French firm Sulky has long been recognised as a specialist in the design of fertiliser spreaders that are among the most accurate in the industry. Built to the highest possible standards, Sulky spreaders are manufactured in the state-of-the-art factory in the Chateauborg region of France, and are capable of spread widths from 9-50m, with hopper capacities of 330 to 9500 litres. Both mounted and trailed types are available, all have either a manual or a remotely operated border control, which conform to the latest Environment standards. Automatic weight calibration and GPS compatibility with automatic headland control is available for the higher specification models. Recent developments include the introduction of the Econov system available on X40 and X50 fertiliser spreaders. This gives automatic on-the-go working width and rate adjustments,

resulting in cost savings of up to 15% over alternative systems. The Sulky Econov Matrix control box incorporates a ‘Ready to Spread’ feature, which enables operators to easily set rate and width settings, including fine adjustment for the 3Di headland device for the specific fertiliser being used, with the settings transferred to the spreader control box via SD card.

A wide range from Sulky Sulky is also known across Europe as a seed drill specialist, with thousands of the firm’s machines proven in operation across the continent. With 77 years of drill experience behind it, Sulky today offers through RECO a wide range that spans everything from conventional box drills to high-output pneumatic machines, many of which are compatible with Sulky’s own power harrow offering.

The Xeos range of pneumatic drills offer accurate seed calibration and seed placement, with a tolerance in variation of seed across the width of the drill as low as 2%, and seed rates 1400 kg/ha are possible. The drill can handle all types of seed from rape to beans with the same distribution metering cartridge.

Strong and Robust Xeos Pro models offer a strong and robust drill capable of drilling in even the most difficult wet and trashy conditions, with Maxi coulter discs providing a coulter pressure up to 80kg. Sulky’s sales literature proudly claims that ‘You can sow with the Pro where the others won’t go’. The Sulky range also includes increasingly popular Maxidrill disc-coulter min-till drills and the Easydrill direct drill, both available in models up to 6m. In the future, these machines will be sold under Sulky’s dedicated new min/no-till brand, Sky. The line of RECO equipment for arable farmers has been recently extended with the introduction of a range of ploughs from Spanish company Ovlac, the conclusion of a worldwide search for the right manufacturing partner. Highly regarded by farmers across Europe, Ovlac ploughs are manufactured at a 21,000m2 factory in northern Spain, and some 60% are exported. Ovlac’s products are well-established

in markets such as France and Germany, despite the strength of these countries’ own domestic plough makers. Much of this can be attributed to Ovlac’s emphasis on raw material, component and finished product quality, which focuses on the use of high elastic limit German and Swedish steels, heat-treated headstock shafts, 8mm case-hardened mouldboards, a one-piece weld-free frame, and boron steel wearing parts as standard, with carbidecoated parts available as an option. RECO offers four-, five- and six-furrow reversible fully-mounted models, with a choice of either manual or hydraulic furrow width adjustment, shear bolt or leaf spring auto-reset protection, and optional hydraulic front furrow width adjustment. While the Ovlac plough range originally consisted of models suitable for tractors 160, 220, and 260hp, a new 200hp model, launched at Cereals 2013, further extends the range. Unique to the UK market is Ovlac’s fixed/oscillating headstock feature. This can be locked where not required, but in oscillating mode gives the plough around 30 degrees of horizontal movement through a pivoting bar behind the lower link arms, allowing it to follow a natural line behind the tractor when negotiating curved field obstacles or boundaries. The bar’s range of forward movement also makes for quicker entry on the headland.

Now it’s time to ..”TeknoFold”! Encouraged by the very positive response of the British market in the sector of professional tillage and contractors, Brevi under the exclusive distribution of Reco will shortly be introducing the brand new FOLDING POWER HARROW for tractors up to 450 HP and working widths of up to 8 meters. The new "TeknoFold" with working widths from 5 to 8 meters for coupling up to 450 HP offers additional innovative features: t Heavy-duty 3rd pt headstock with cat III and IV, central gearbox with rear PTO t New strengthen monobloc side flat-pans with rotors mounted on tapered roller bearings diam. 60 mm. Keeping in mind the key-concept of time saving this model assembly is also t Featuring a new parallelogram mounting system of the rear roller with side pins adjustment which enables to avoid individual adjustments of the rear leveling bar while varying the working depth. This advantage is especially useful, when you need to make multiple adjustments working depth during seeding operations in combined

RECO has over 40 years of experience with power harrows, and its new partner Brevi, with whom it has now been working in partnership for three years, has quickly become known in the UK for the quality and strength of its implements. The family-owned Breviglieri firm, founded in 1949, produces 2,500 power harrows and 1,500 rotary tillers annually from its 25,000 sq m factory site in Nogara, in the Verona region of northern Italy. All major components – gears, shafts, gearboxes, rotors – are designed, manufactured and tested in-house. Key Brevi design features include rotor tine phasing, meaning all tines are offset to each other. This reduces required start-up and driving torque, cutting power/fuel requirement and lessening vibration, as well as helping produce a seed bed with a fine tilth, ensuring following crops have the best possible chance of establishment. The model range, which can be specified with ‘Superfast’ quick-fit tines where applicable, spans 1.1-4.5m (fixed) and 3.4-7.0m (folding) variants, with an 8m folding unit imminent. RECO backs the machines with an industry-leading five-year guarantee.

RECO’s offering for the grassland farmer and/or contractor centres around two of the most respected names in premium German-made farm equipment. Agriculture has been Fella’s focus since the firm’s inception in 1918, and the firm has been making mowers, rakes and tedders since 1932. Today’s product line comprises 3.5-12.5m rakes, tedders from 4.5-13.0m, and trailed and mounted (front and rear) mowers in drum and disc formats that can cover from 2.07m to 9.3m. Fella is wholly owned by AGCO, and its parent company are investing large sums of money into the firm. It produces products aimed at farmers and large contractors at the quality end of the grassland market, and backed by its parent, Fella’s intention is to continue to invest with a view to achieving a minimum of 20% market share in this sector. Recent developments for larger farmers and contractors include a new trailered 10.2m TH11008 tedder and a 3m SM3065 trailed mower that features integral transport chassis, a centrally-linked drawbar for either-side operation and Fella’s Driveguard foreign-object disc protection system.

Company Profile Loader wagons are in many areas fast replacing forage harvesters as more farmers and contractors recognise the capabilities of such machines. RECO’s Strautmann product line of Vitesse loader wagons spans 42m to 95m cu m capacities, with chopping units comprising 37-55 knives. The latest addition to the Strautmann range is the CFS (Continuous Flow System) loading rotor, which boosts loading efficiency to save up to 15% in fuel consumption. Strautmann was the original designer and manufacturer of the modern Loader wagon feed rotor, and this year celebrates 25 years of the rotor technology, a concept which most other firms have since imitated. Rated as the next major evolution in loader wagon design, operators who have experience with CFS-equipped machines have reported significantly increased output and performance.

have an enviable reputation for strong build construction and reliability, and are renowned for producing a high quality TMR homogeneous feed, mixed with low horsepower and reduced mixing times. This year sees a complete new model line up for the Strautmann Vertimix range, available in single or twin auger formats, in capacities of 7.5-24 cubic metres. Larger twin auger (up to 30.5 cu m) models will be available during 2014. The latest generation of Vertimix models feature modular build, with both single- and twin auger models each now having three base units, which can be increased in size simply by adding extensions. This makes dealer stocking easier and allows the wagon to grow in size in conjunction with the owner’s enterprise. To ensure mixing quality is never compromised the auger height is designed to be compatible with the largest possible capacity rather than the lowest, as on many competitor models.
