FIGURES & FIELDS

5 GRAPHIC FIELDS
“Graphic Fields” explores compositional depth through the use of hatching and the overlap of primitive figures.

“Positive vs. Negative Forms” explores different perceptions of solid and void. In both drawings, the less dense gridded hatch is perceived as occupiable space, while the denser gridded hatch is perceived as solid.

6 POSITIVE VS. NEGATIVE FORMS

This series of “2D Geometric Logic” drawings examines the diagramming and alignment of organic and rectilinear primitive figures and letters. Each drawing pairs an organic letter, analyzed through the radii of circles, with a rectilinear letter, analyzed through gridlines.

OBJECTS & TAXONOMIES

“Object Taxonomies” tests how Rhino commands can be leveraged to produce different, yet related, compound objects, with a focus on moving progressively from more organic shapes to more rectilinear shapes.

OBJECT TAXONOMIES

10
11 OBJECT TAXONOMIES

“3D Geometric Logic” diagrams the sequential steps used to create one of the objects from “Object Taxonomies,” with a focus on the use of commands to create both organic and rectilinear shapes.

12 3D GEOMETRIC LOGIC

“Analytical Drawings” displays the logic of constructing and understanding 3 objects from “Object Taxonomies” through an unrolled surfaces diagram, section diagrams, and a kit of parts diagram.

PROTO-ARCHITECTURES

COMPOUND FORMS

“Compound Forms” investigates porosity and apertures in a 3D protoarchitecture, created through the extrusion and sweeping of geometric shapes.

17

“Partial Facades” analyzes the materiality of a portion of the proto-architecture created in “Compound Forms.”

STRUCTURAL MATRICES

“Structural Matrices” utilizes both contours and primary outlines to establish a structural system. These pipes and I-Beams support the proto-architecture created in “Compound Forms.”

CONTEXT & ATMOSPHERE

TOPOGRAPHIC FIELDS

21
The color scheme and layout of “Topographic Fields” is inspired by topographic maps created in the US in the late 1800s. This map portrays a wooded river valley sprinkled with small communities of buildings.

“Entourage” uses a cartoon, storybook style to portray the environment and entourage surrounding the form from “Structural Matrices,” which acts as a sculptural piece in a suburban neighborhood. Emphasis is placed on scale, with trees receding in the distance and small animals burrowing in the foreground.

22
ENTOURAGE

“Final Illustration” explores a utopian gridded community patterned with trees and teeming with abstract proto-architectures. This progressive community is entirely pedestrian-focused and places emphasis on the prominence of vegetation.
