South Africans claim Desert Dash solo competition wins Dion Guy and Maritza Terblanche of South Africa won the men and women's solo races of the FNB Desert Dash which finished in Swakopmund on Saturday. Guy completed the 359km event in 16 hours 2 minutes 37 seconds and finished more than 55 minutes ahead of Karl Leidel of Germany who came second in 16:57:58. Jaco Davel (South Africa) finished third with a time of 17:09:43. Maritza Terblanche of South Africa won the women's solo race for the second year in a row with a time of 20:23:56. Nienie Steenekamp finished second in a time of 22:13:01. The NMC Methealth Four Man team was the first team in Swakopmund, and crossed the finishing line at about 6:20 in the morning. The team consisting of Tristan de Lange, Pascal Marggraff, Charl Fouche and Jerneil Barth finished in a time of 15:20:13. The Muffin Stuffers team of Petrus Brandt and Nichol Jordaan won the Two-Man team competition in 15:46:24. The Roxygirls team of Mandy Huisamen and Anneke

The Fourwomen's competition was won by the Old Mutual PFA Namibia team of Svetlana Bauer, Charmaine Shannon, Patricia Hoeksema and Andra van Staden who finished in a time of 18:34:37. The Four-mix competition was won by Team Cathy 4 of Daniel Villinger, Jacques van Zyl, Jaco Hanekom and Genevieve Weber in 16:25:31. More than 500 cyclists entered the ultra marathon FNB Desert Dash that took the riders from Windhoek, over the Khomas Hochland, through the Kuiseb Valley and down to the coast where the race finished in Swakopmund. Conditions were tough with participants having to ride into a strong headwind. More than 30 riders withdrew at the first check point 100km from the start.

Quinton Khuruseb gave Civics the lead from the penalty spot in the 18th minute. Rundu Chiefs also won a penalty after a foul by Nico Narib in the box in the 32rd minute. Mogale Naruseb converted from the spot. Rundu Chiefs took the lead in the 52nd minute with a goal from Alexander Goxab. Black Africa defeated Orlando Pirates 1-0 on
