It starts with us... Morsjorse! A lot of people are probably wondering what this picture means...Well today I decided to go clean my grandparents’ graves after a very long time since I no longer reside in Walvis Bay. As I enter the yards a big cloud of shame fell over me for I was greeted by broken tombstones, filth here and there, rusted beer cans and broken bottles, but what broke my heart was the graves of the stillborn babies which was covered in unwanted grass that's even taller then me. As I stood there I looked at myself neatly dressed and well presented and thought this is the final resting place of our families and friends. We mourned for them and at times still do but we forget to go clean their resting place. Would I want to sleep in a bed which was not made for a week that looks like filth? No. Now why do we do this to them. This was really heart breaking. They say gone but not forgotten, I disagree this place said gone and forgotten loud and clear... I just wanted to ask the Youth and Young ladies and gents lets show our elders we still have a lil good in us, if you have bricks in your yards or paint you don't use in your garages or even just a few hours to spare lets set up a date (Im will come down for it) and clean up these yards. Lets lead by example, if I could I would've cleaned that yard myself. We should be ashamed of yourself. We want them to rest in peace but look at this place, no man. These pics were taken at the old Narraville cemetery. Lets clean up this mess, I beg you.

Water is life! I would like to make the following statement: NamWater Swakopmund has no consideration for the people who depend on the pipe line that feeds water to Arandis and Rossing. On Friday 10 January 2014 at 10:00 with no notice whatsoever the water supply suddenly stops flowing, as we pay our monthly usage to the Swakop Municipality I phoned them for an explanation, the answer was that NamWater had to do maintenance on the pipeline and there would be no water for most of the day, they were unfortunately only informed on Thursday at 18h00 that there would be no water on Friday and because they were told so late they inturn could not inform the residents of the small holdings along the Swakop river who do not have the option of a reservoir which could at least cover a period of time. It is now 22h00 on Friday night and still there is no water. If NamWater had only made the effort to inform those residents who are so acutely affected that planned maintenance was to be done on the pipe line residents could make arrangements for the period of stoppage. One has to ask the question who is in charge and do they know what they are doing. D B Smith a resident on the Swakop River plots. Dougie Smith

The State of Our Schools nodig om dit die hele wêreld te wys nie. As jy jou soos 'n vark wil gedra, doen dit by jou huis neh. Sigaret stompies kan in jou sak gedruk word tot terug by die huis geneem word. Ek was 15 jaar 'n roker en het nooit my stompies op straat gegooi nie!!!

Thousands of learners are preparing to head back to school next week, but many parents who believe that they are choosing the best school for their children are in for a rude awakening. Suzaan Wieland In countries like Japan, teachers and learners clean their own school grounds. At Namib High School parents and the School Board, as well as ex-pupils renovated the school buildings and garden. Teachers and learners helped with fundraising. It can be done!! Benjamin Bixby III And yet they have N$700 million to spend on a building that will house less then 100 people. #Priorities Joe Kondja Amushila This very serious. How do you expect learners to perform better under such environment? MoE should take up cleaning campaigns at schools and also render gardening services..Such environment also affects the psychological developments if the kids. Some research findings has it that "the more attractive the school environment the better the performance of learners and vice versa!!! Christo Smith Ek was ook daar op skool en in die koshuis van 1981 tot 1990 en al die koshuis kinders moes elke dinsdag self tuinwerk doen in groepe om die plek skoon te hou. Ons was baie trots op ons plek en dit het nooit so gelyk nie. Dalk moet die reel weer in kom sodat die kinders die tuine mooi maak en so hou, dit hou hul dalk uit die kwaad uit.... Joe Kondja Amushila From my own knowledge the ministry of education in itself never shows interest in the surrounding environments of schools. Not knowing the impact it has on learner's behaviour and performance. If you look at schools with neat school yard. Its only those that were established long back before independence and much worse those gardens that suppose to make schools attractive have never been maintained.. Raymondt Vlam Vilander Shamefull! Tammy-Ann Kleinsmith Mouton Carballo What a shame, my old school...no excuse 4rom MOE or SSS...2nd Suzaan Valencia Dixon And learners and parents are involved here?? Shameful really! We use to raise big amounts of money for this school with our festivals and other fundraising events. Our parents were involved, we kept it clean!

Reader wants to know No more Hiv Aids counselling at Walvis Bay clinic, what they asking only how old are? What is your mother name? Why are you here today? Really. I was shocked that day. If anybody go the for test and you don’t know your status already really you will collapse. Sylvanus Ester

Izél Miryam van Ellewee Yes, it is horrendous! But the schools can't do much about it since the state took away all school fees!! Even if the teachers and students clean the school themselves, with what will they buy the cleaning products, protective gear and remove the rubbish??? Christina Rockstroh It's a blatant shame. Kwik Kerb Walvis Bay Ja it is a shame to see things like this , who is really to blame. It is easy to point to government , not that the government are ok ! I mean 30 years back when I was a student our schools and hostels we were proud of it. We work in the garden and clean buildings. But know is that problem " human rights " . Every one need and want but who will do """ Robert Heuschneider Its a shame !!! Poor Namibia. Carlo Gawaseb Das Neves dis vreeslik ...!! ths how the results look seems to me ...!!!no discipline ..!!

Walvis Bay water woes It is alleged that affluent members in the lagoon area and Nangolo Mbumba Avenue in Walvis Bay are using municipal water illegally for gardening purposes. Carl David Marx Can you blame the people??? I'm not saying it's the right thing to do, but if you look at the water pressure, what else can you do? When the rest of the country gets rain, Walvis Bay loses its water and the water pressure. Maybe it's time for Namwater and the Municipality to pull their fingers out of some places and start looking after the community and their water needs, or are we turning into South Africa? We pay more than enough for our accounts to get all this sorted out.

Denise Van Bergen There are also a number of residents who have special connections for purified water, which is metered and paid for by the residents.
