MODULE 3
What is Nai'a Somatics?
NAI'A Somatics is a body of work for self transformation and life alchemy based on ancient yogic teachings, quantum science and somatic trauma healing. The goal of NAI’A Somatics is to offer a system of self discovery, empowerment and inner transformation for people to take charge of their wellbeing and to awaken to the giant power that lies within them.
The approach is based on Nai'a's 6 pillars of Life Alchemy: Breathwork, Mindset, Conscious Movement, Emotional Intelligence, Lifestyle, Community & Leadership.
As student and practitioner, individuals learn to use the Life Alchemy compass to develop and fortify each pillar in their life and to help them navigate the inner and outer landscape of their physical, mental-emotional and spiritual transformation to become more embodied and thriving human beings.
The applications and benefits of NAI’A Somatics are innumerable.
KNOWLEDGE + PRACTICE = WISDOM

CONNECTER AVEC LE CORPS SUBTIL CONNECTING WITH THE SUBTLE BODY
We are energy. We originate from vibrational frequencies and will return to vibrational frequencies, our physical body being just a vessel of matter through which frequencies are expressed / manifested. We can align our body through matter (the physical) (compass down to up) or through energy (compass up to down).
Any energy change affects our hormones, body, mind and emotions and vice versa.
POURQUOI EST-CE IMPORTANT? WHY SHOULD I CARE?
As students of yoga, we want to get to know ourselves deeply. Meaning that we want to connect to and get to know the different layers of ourselves. This is where practice becomes paramount in our journey. You can understand the concepts of the subtle body but without practice it won't do anything for you. The goal is to grow through the process of self study. And as teacher to share from the wisdom cultivated in your practice. NAI'A's 6 pillars help us look at all aspects of ourselves.

In the Bhagavad Gita, the subtle body is described as a combination of the mind, the intellect and the ego, and it is the subtle body that controls the physical. Through the subtle body, the yogi experiences pleasure and pain.
The subtle body is described in ancient Indian texts such as the Upanishads and the Bhagavad Gita, as emanating from the causal body, and manifesting and controlling all aspects of the physical body.
Life Alchemy occurs when all bodies are balanced. Thus free from suffering.
The koshas are energetic layers or sheaths that move from the outermost layer of skin to the deep spiritual core. The koshas provide a framework for conceptualizing ourselves. Much like the chakra system, the kosha layers come packaged with their own individual physiological function and psychology.
2 3 1
Our physical bodies are made up of the material elements of the physical world. We are what we eat, so to speak. We are made up of food and will return to the earth, where our food came from, after our death. This sheath belongs to the physical body.
This sheath belongs to the astral body. We are composed of five vital energies, all of which flow through the physical body via the astral plane; prana, apana, samana, udana and vyana. Pranamaya kosha also contains the five organs of action (the karma indriyas); mouth, hands, feet, anus and genitals. Within this kosha, we experience hot, cold, hunger and thirst etc.

This sheath again sits in the astral body. We experience thought through this sheath. We can experience thinking, doubting, anger, lust etc. The elements are; mind (manas), subconscious (chitta) and the jnana indriyas (the organs of knowledge; eyes, ears, nose, tongue and skin).

This sheath relates to the astral body. It consists of the intellect (known as the buddhi) which analyses the information we receive. It also controls the ego (ahamkara), our self-assertive principle. It works alongside the five organs of knowledge, listed above. Discrimination (discernment) and decision making are its manifestations.
This is the only kosha that sits in the causal body. It's the part of us that experiences bliss, joy and peace. This is the part of us that we tend to lose connection with as it's the most difficult body to feel. Our aim in yoga is to reach connection with the anandamaya koshawhen we reach that inner place where everything is silent and calm, we have found our connection with anandamaya. This is a sheath and body you can feel after a NAI'A breathwork session for example.

Our being is a whole. We cannot separate the physical from the energetic. And the fastest way to alignment, healing, and transformation is through energy as it has no ties, judgment and only affects the magnetism and electricity within us.
Yoga Hormonal Hormonal YOGA
Yoga poses pressurize and depressurize specific glands. These subtle compressions and decompressions can regulate secretions. Yoga poses stimulate and balance endocrine function.
For example: By stimulating the thyroid gland through poses, movement and breath techniques we can help regulate the hormones produced there. We can think about yoga in terms of all our hormone releasing glands, we can think about using yoga to help support our whole endocrine system for VITALITY.

GRANTHIS - PSYCHIC KNOTS
Brahma Granthi: The “knot of Brahma,” is a tangle of nadis that represents the first energetic and psychic contraction in the human being. It is situated in muladhara chakra and symbolizes the attachment to the material world. It is linked to the survival instinct, the urge to procreate, instinctive tendencies, passivity, desire, and tamas (inertia). When Brahma granthi is pierced (or transcended), kundalini is able to rise beyond muladhara chakra without being held back by the attractions and instinctual patterns of the personality.
Vishnu Granthi: “The knot of Vishnu,” the second of the granthis, is located in anahata chakra. (According to some yogis, it is located at the level of manipura chakra or on sushumna nadi between manipura and anahata chakras). It is associated with emotional attachment, attachment to limited forms of compassion, and doing good deeds. It is the knot that creates the desire to preserve ancient traditions and spiritual orders. Only by true discrimination, knowledge, and faith can one untie the knot of Vishnu and realize the purpose behind the Cosmos, which is a part of the divine plan.” Once Vishnu granthi is transcended, the awareness of the universal quality of energy is more easily recognized. In this way, the yogi will have more natural access to the universal source of energy, rather than having to draw energy from the localized centers within the being.
Rudra Granthi: “The knot of Rudra,” the third granthi, is located in ajna chakra (some yoga practitioners place it at the level of vishuddha chakra or on sushumna nadi between the eyebrows or between vishuddha and ajna chakras). It is also called Shiva granthi (“the knot of Shiva”). Attachment to siddhis (paranormal powers) is the great hindrance related to ajna chakra and it creates this knot. Rudra granthi can be pierced only by the power of discernment between what is ephemeral—samsara (the phenomenal world)— and what is eternal nirvana (the Absolute). Then, detachment from siddhis occurs naturally. When this knot is surmounted, the ego consciousness is left behind and the truth of the Oneness beyond individual consciousness is revealed.

REFRAME - RECADRAGE
NAI'A SOMATICS / SOMATIQUE NAI'A: Is a body of work based on ancient yogic teachings, quantum science and somatic trauma healing. We use conscious breath to build sensory awareness and to highlight subconscious imprints in order to liberate those through the body. We us breath to access the body and to release what is stored in the mind and we use the mind to create a new vision of our life.
The autonomic nervous system has a sympathetic and parasympathetic side that are activated through neuroception
Neuroception is a subconscious reaction (without awareness), it is based on stored experiences of the past which activate the NS on different levels of the ladder.
Building awareness in body sensations, in NAI'A Breathwork & Somatics, is key to releasing subconscious imprints of trauma and key to self regulation, self transformation and inner alchemy.
Tension in the body can be released through dynamic movement, breathwork, deep holds and release, long holds, deep relaxation, bodywork, voice activation.....yet imprints in the subconscious can only be released with steady exposure to the practice in steady environments that allow for deep and safe unwinding combined with focused actions in life.
Your role as educator is to help students build AWARENESS in their bodies, in their sensations and to offer exercises to help them ground, get clearer, and to feel more empowered on their self discovery journey.
You do this by embodying YOUR WORK first. You offer them co-regulation.
You educate them their makeup and on how their machine works
And you help them by applying the NAI'A APPROACH
The body has several zones of tension which are related with the different polyvagal complexes and which speak to one another.
