Welcome to the October issue of E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive. This month the theme is “Harvest Your Dreams”-Do the Real Work!

With every goal there is an equation of requirements “the personal math” it takes to accomplish your dream. Some requirements are measurable for example:  how much practice, study or research is required per day?  What’s the quality of your instructors, coaches or partners?  What’s the talent of your team members.

And the list can go on and on.

Then, there are the immeasurable, unforeseen costs. For example:  How much time do you spend practicing, or working verses time with my family?  Do you relocate your family?  Do you stay with the team, the group or go solo?  Can you trust the advice of your associates?

That list can go on as well. Both the known and the unknown variables impact your personal math for success. .

Once you’ve figured out your own personal equation, your ready to get your hands dirty farming your own vision to completion. After acquiring the basics skills (the planting phase), practicing (the watering phase), and developing (the growing phase), you’ve set yourself up for a season of harvest.

Whether it’s a successful sales presentation, a new business venture, a graduation or a stunning performance there will be a fantastic harvest -when you do the real work.

Rivers came to prominence in 1965 as a guest on The Tonight Show. Hosted by her mentor, Johnny Carson, the show established Rivers' comedic style.

In 1986, with her own rival program, The Late Show with Joan Rivers, Rivers became the first woman to host a late night network television talk show. She subsequently hosted The Joan Rivers Show (1989-1993), winning a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Talk Show Host.

It was been 25 years since Joan Rivers was a guest on The Tonight Show, and on Thursday she returned in style.

Joan jokingly remarked that she has had the cab running out front of the studio for the last 25 years.

Having become widely known for her red carpet interviews, Rivers co-hosted theE! celebrity fashion show Fashion Police (2010- 2014) and starred in reality series Joan & Melissa: Joan Knows Best? (2011-2014) with daughter Melissa Rivers.

Rivers marketed a line of jewelry and apparel on the QVC shopping channel, and was the subject of the documentary Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work(2010).

Above all the comedic relief and self defaming humor, Joan is a brilliant business woman. She didn’t allow age, death, financial crisis or depression to stop her from reinventing herself.

At the time of her death Joan had a net worth of over $150 million. This includes a$35 million NYC apartment, that she left to her only child, Melissa Rivers and her $40 million per year, QVC fortune.

— Will Smith, After Earth Have you ever had fear hold you back or keep you from moving forward in your life? Most people are so uncomfortable with change that they let the fear of the unknown paralyze them. People often mistake fear as danger, rather than a choice. and give it more power than it deserves in your life. And it’s far more common than you may think. According to a 2012 Fear/Phobia Study by the National Institute of Mental Health, a look at the percentages of most feared things by people, included:

Neutralize The Power of Your Fears As implicated by Will Smith’s quote, you can choose to give fear power over you, or disarm it. This powerful message helps me and my clients put fear where it belongs… a thing of the past! Following are crucial steps in this process:

Acknowledgement — Acknowledge your fears, you are human and you have them…we all do, it’s ok! Acknowledging them is ½ the battle.

exactly what you fear. Look at the pictures you have in your head and become an observer of your inner space.

Origination — Where do your fears come from? Before you can begin overcoming your fear, you have to know why they are causing havoc. You can then work on your own, or with your personal coach to diminish their power over you.

Once you come to the realization that you have all the power, not your fears, you will begin to see exciting new opportunities before you. And although you are human and can experience setbacks, you can now practice telling yourself the truth —“My fears are not real, and it no longer serves me to think about them in this way.” — to get yourself right back on track.

What Women Need to Know About Franchising

Hello again, my name is David Goodman.

I am the President/CEO of Franchise Biz Consulting and welcome to “The Franchise

In terms of the Fall Season approaching, this month is the “Changing of the Guard” sign post. Typically, with a new season being born, there comes a feeling within all of us that the “status quo” isn’t good enough.

We re-evaluate our current station in life and look at what can be done to effect a change for the better. Quite

often the change needs to come from within.

game begins. Who is going to win?

Your family who wants all of your time and the luxury of your income to feed the needs of daily living? Or your boss, who wants all of your time because he feels he deserves it due to the pay check you bring home? family needs money to survive and the boss supplies that by virtue of the time, energy and productivity you produce. The family comes in a distant second. This is a cycle that is most likely to continue unless one can take a deep breath, emotionally reach down, visualize a change and take steps to make it happen.

Here Is The Secret You can make it happen! You do not need to be a rocket scientist to start your own business so that the only boss you need to appease is yourself. You do not need to know how to start a business, pick a site, negotiate a lease, hire people, buy products, figure out pricing for maximum profits, market those products, hire employees, train employees, financial or borrowing options, etc. The concept that

I recently walked down Hollywood Boulevard and half the women I saw had the high button shoes! LOl! To use a more modern expression, men “Brought home the bacon“. Women stayed home and reared the young and took care of all the family domestic duties. Well, the tables have turned. Most women are also in the work force financially contributing to the financial welfare of the family. It is very common to see both husband and wife working to keep the family afloat. What most women do not know is that they have another avenue open to them; one, which can be dramatically more financially and emotionally rewarding than working a 9 to 5 job. the machinery of the mundane perennial circle of continuing doubt. Invest in a Franchise. A franchise does many things to help answer all the aforementioned questions. It can be the answer to your way out of the current enigma; “Who

should I appease, my family or my boss?” However, one ingredient or answer is missing, the most important one, “What Franchise is right for me?”

The Answer To The Most Important Question I cannot tell you how many people have come to me with the same question. Actually I can, all of them! mechanic; or, to open up a Senior Care Facility because they are a nurse, etc., may not know what they really want.

That is why they need a Franchise Consultant. What a consultant does is work closely with the candidate and learn, with in-depth detail, what they are truly looking to attain in life: money, life style change, prestige, eye on retirement, passive income, security, independence, scalability of investment, etc. Then they tailor a specific search given the parameters the candidate has laid out.

They work as a team. Typically all this is done at no cost to the candidate. The various franchisors are constantly looking for highly qualified candidates to help grow their respective companies. They recognize that a super qualified candidate can mean additional growth for the franchise, so they are happy to compensate the consultant. This system provides a win, win, win situation for all parties.

For Me, October Is The Beginning Of The Holiday Season When I was a kid, the most fun was the Halloween Season. Planning the costume of my favorite superhero and then marching in a parade during school recess, was to a young guy of the tender age of 10 years old, fantastic. Now let’s not forget the “piece de resistance” the night of “Trick or Treating”; complete with the contest of who can collect the most candy and of course, the ensuing abdominal cramps from over-eating.

Linda Celeste Sims (Bronx, NY) began her dance training at Ballet Hispanico School of Dance and is a graduate of LaGuardia High School of the Performing Arts. In 1994, Mrs. Sims was granted an award by the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts.

She has been highlighted in the “Best of 2009” list in Dance Magazine and has performed as a guest star on So You Think You Can Dance, Dancing with the Stars, and The Today Show.

She has also made guest appearances at the White House tribute to Judith Jamison, Youth America Grand Prix, Vail International Dance Festival, and galas in Budapest and Vienna. Mrs. Sims joined the Company in 1996.

Judith Jamison Choreographer and Artistic Director Emerita

Judith Jamison joined Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater in 1965 and quickly became an international star. Over the next 15 years, Mr. Ailey created some of his most enduring roles for her, most notably the tour-de-force solo Cry. During the 1970s and 80s, she appeared as a guest artist with ballet companies all over the world, starred in the hit Broadway musical Sophisticated Ladies, and formed her own company, The Jamison Project. She returned to Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater in 1989 when Mr. Ailey asked her to succeed him as Artistic Director.

In the 21 years that followed, she brought the Company to unprecedented heights – including two historic engagements in South Africa and a 50-city global tour to celebrate the Company’s 50th anniversary. Alvin Ailey, Founder Alvin Ailey was born on January 5, 1931, in Rogers, Texas. His experiences of life in the rural South would later inspire some of his most memorable works. He was introduced to dance in Los Angeles by performances of the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo and the Katherine Dunham Dance Company, and his formal dance training began with an introduction to Lester Horton’s classes by his friend Carmen de Lavallade. Horton, the founder of one of the first raciallyintegrated dance companies in the United States, became a mentor for Mr. Ailey as he embarked on his professional career. After

Horton’s death in 1953, Mr. Ailey became director of the Lester Horton Dance Theater and began to choreograph his own works.

He established the Alvin Ailey American Dance Center (now The Ailey School) in

What is Abundant Living?

Abundant Living - True abundant life consists of an abundance of love, joy, peace, and the rest of the fruits of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23) not an abundance of “stuff.” It consists of life that is eternal and, as such, our interest is in the eternal, not the temporal.

Prosperous Living - prosperous adj. Having success; flourishing: a prosperous new business. Well-to-do; well-off: a prosperous family.

What is Personal Empowerment?

Personal empowerment is in knowing you are the person you want to be beyond the facade you’ve created. An example of this might be having a desire to move up into management. yourself “I think I can manage”; where as if you were empowered you would have the ability to say “I know I can manage”.

Initially, my consciousness was at the level of enjoying the food spread that was laid out and listening to the presentation with a half-ear. After awhile, a man who had been sitting quietly stood up and began to speak. She graduated as a Physician’s Assistant and General Nurse Practitioner and retired as Director of Health at University of Santa Clara.

Stephen, the oldest has an MBA in Marketing Management and is an adjunct professor at Sonoma State University’s Wine Business Institute. Stephen oversees sales and marketing for the enterprise.

The family came about acquiring their DR holdings after mother Doris was part of an operating team which saved the life of the president of the country at the time. As a reward for her contributions to a life-saving team, while volunteering for CARE-MEDICO, she was rewarded with an opportunity to purchase land on the fantasy Caribbean island. Choose a Format This can be done as a sit down tasting, with each person tasting wines side-by-side, or you can place the wines around the room and taste them one by one. If you need additional glassware catering companies often rent them at reasonable rates.

Invite Friends Invitations are as easy as sending an email or using an online invitation services like Evite. Ask guests to bring wines appropriate to the theme. Remember to make sure you have adequate room and glassware for your guests.

Eight to twelve people is an optimal size for a home wine tasting party—enough people to be interesting, yet still manageable. Wine tasting parties are also great for making new friends. A great old proverb says “Over a bottle of wine many a friend is made.” You are guaranteed to prove the truth of this the night of your tasting!

Think About Food Pairings An easy way to handle the food issue is to ask guests to bring a light dish or appetizer to go with their wine, such as cheeses, olives and meats (like salami, pepperoni, etc.). This way there is a variety of foods for testing with different wines.

Take a sip of the wine alone. Next, take a bite of food, followed by a second sip of the same wine. pairings work and which do not.

Creation of a Successful Brand: An Authentic Brand

First let’s be clear, a brand is a promise. In order for a brand to thrive, it must deliver on that promise consistently. Where many companies fail is they are not authentic when delivering their promise and/or product/service. This can happen for a multitude of reasons: being unclear themselves on what they’re capable of delivering, having inconsistent marketing, copying another brand or having inconsistent marketing etc. Each of these problems has the same solution: authenticity.

An authentic brand is not necessarily the first to market; it's the brand that comes first to the customer’s mind. The one that comes to mind is the one that stands apart from all the others. An authentic brand owns a differentiating attribute.

But quality is an expected attribute, not a differentiating attribute. Since no one believes you when you claim superior quality (everyone makes this claim!), you can’t count on claims of superior quality to differentiate you from the competition. One technique is to say quality without ever saying it.

Go grab that thesaurus that’s been sitting on your shelf since college.

Stimulate your mind and look for effective code words that convey quality without spelling out Q-U-A-L..

SATISFACTION- Customer satisfaction is subject to the same rules as quality. Satisfaction is expected, not optional. A savvier, more demanding consumer base has raised the bar for brands. Today’s marketer must hold onto existing customers while landing new customers. These days you can only successfully differentiate your brand with quality or satisfaction strategies when your competition is dumb enough to let you.

DIFFERENTIATION- The Japanese term otaku has been used in the context of brand appeal.

Otaku describes a drive that's more compelling than a hobby but a little less than an obsession. A craving? A compulsion? The distinctions probably aren't important. What's important is that it drives

customers to your brand.

Can you inspire otaku? Ask yourself these questions:  Does my brand convey instantly the

unique purchase proposition in today’s market climate? 

Does my brand provoke instant recall and recognition in the customer’s heart and mind?

If you answered yes to both questions, you're on your way to achieving customer otaku.

Part of the trick is to create your difference, and use that difference to drive your benefit message. Use your difference to set up your unique value proposition.

In a crowded category, differences usually need to be dramatic, simple and easy to grasp. Even if that means oversimplifying your message, distilling your difference to one attribute.

DON’T LET ‘WHAT IF’ STOP YOU – TAKE RISK Being safe is risky. Being boring is risky. In today’s crowded marketplace, it’s hard to survive if you don’t stand out. Being scrutinized — even criticized — is not the worst thing that can happen to you. Being invisible is the worst thing that can happen to you.

Take action.

These days many companies are conserving capital, playing it safe, eliminating risk every way they can (or so they believe). But this is your opportunity to exploit their weakness to your advantage. Cease it. It’s a great time to innovate and differentiate! Create a new brand category. That’s how you beat the market leaders.

I am a fan of Al Ries.

The 22 Immutable Laws of Branding.

Those of you that read these articles likely know that.

Pretty damn cool. I highly recommend both of these books. I don’t always agree with the perspective of team Ries. In their book, War in the Boardroom, they posit that people think with their brains. With all due respect, human tissue didn’t compose Beethoven’s fifth, write the Declaration of Independence or create Star Wars. But lest we get too philosophical about it all, as marketing strategists, you’ve got to love these guys.

Al Ries is the Godfather of the marketing strategy called Positioning.

Along with then partner, Jack Trout, Al wrote three articles introducing positioning to the advertising world in 1972. Then in 1981, they wrote what the subscribers to Advertising Age (the industry bible) later voted to be the best Media and Marketing book of all time – Positioning: the Battle for your Mind. Whoa!

And as a not-so-minor side note, the #3 book on that list, was one he co-wrote with his daughter and partner for the last two decades, Laura Ries: Page 92 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

In 1996, Al wrote a book called Focus. The name says it all. And to this day, Ries & Ries refer to themselves as Focusing Consultants.

you are thinking about writing a book, or

have already written one, I want to tell you some truths and a way that you can build an empire from your book.

The truth is there are very few people who make a living selling their books. That is why I teach a couple of things - one is how to effectively use your book as your business card to catapult you above your competition, and the other is what I’m going to cover in this article - leverage.

I always create a book with the back end in mind. What I mean about back end - is what does the book lead them to do next. What is the next step for you?

For me, when I created 31 Days to Millionaire Marketing Miracles, the back end was coaching where I would teach you how to create a business online - take you through the book so to speak. So before you put pen to paper, what is your back end?

Then I take it even further, how to take the content from that book, and spread it over many different streams of revenue.

When I first got started in internet marketing - my first product was a book.

I would not recommend this per say, but it was the route I chose. The reason I don’t recommend it -

it is a lot of work, takes a long time, and at the end you have a great business card. So instead, I often place this in the middle after you have built your content from a coaching program, and can quickly format that into a book.

The reason - the information is already in your head. Put together a promise and what you are willing to do for what amount of money - and you’re in business. Sell this, document the process, make the book. Then you have the natural back end as well.

But having said I wouldn’t go that route - I lucked out. I created my book, and it launched to #1 on Amazon on April 13th, 2007, and then stayed at the top 2% for 4 years. Both of those were very specific strategies I applied, and because it hit #1 - and got lots of attention and buyers, those buyers contacted me from the promotion in my book and asked if I could coach them through the book.

World Internet Summit, was flown all expenses paid from California to Singapore to appear on my very first stage in front of 3400 people and that launched my speaking career.

The beauty of all of it - is the same information from the book, is spread across all of the other streams of income. So you aren’t constantly trying to make new data, and your message can be very clear on what you teach.

The key to launching your content across multiple streams of income is as follows;  Pick the highest revenue stream first  Get that working, stable, and making money  Use that to get paid to create the next logical in-

come stream  Set the next income stream in place and launch The key is DO NOT move to another income stream until one is stable. If you do you will find yourself spread very thin, frantically creating and posting information into deliverable formats, and not having a stable income to live off of, and feed you and your business.

My current recommended path is;       

coaching speaking webinar/teleseminars seminars and workshops cds/DVDs the book + kindle (eBook) membership site

The reason for that route is the data is created in such a way in the prior step, that it’s easy to move into the necessary format for the next revenue stream.

Now the next logical question you may ask is what about the funnel. The landing page, to free gift, to offer? Where does that fit in. It fits perfectly when you add a free consult call as part of your ‘giveaway’ once they have opted in.

Should you sell a low cost item first automatically - sure - let your autoresponders handle that for you. It’s what they are there for to educate and enlighten and test the waters of your list.

But the fastest way to the cash is free strategy session. Have them fill out a questionnaire with the answers you need to know what pain they need

remedied, and then upsell to an upper level program you have that remedies that pain. It’s the age old market of supply and demand. They are in demand of a remedy for their pain, and you have it.

So can you go out of that order - definitely. Will it still work - yes.

But this is all about speed to market, and making life simple for you, and the bottom line for making it work and building your business empire - is to do whatever it takes to make it go right, and take the easiest path you can to the fastest cash.

The Alchemist

The Alchemist (novel) has inspired a devoted following around the world. This story is about an Andalusian shepherd boy named Santiago who travels from his homeland in Spain to the Egyptian desert in search of a treasure buried in the Pyramids. No one knows what the treasure is, or if Santiago will be able to surmount the obstacles along the way.

But what starts out as a journey to find worldly goods turns into a discovery of the treasure found within.

Many celebrities have declared The Alchemist is their favorite novel. Bill Clinton was spotted with a copy of the book, and Will Smith, Madonna or Malala, among many others, have declared it is their favorite novel. On 2014, Oprah Winfrey interviewed Pharrell Williams, who also explained The Alchemist changed his life.

Paulo Coelho was born in Brazil] and attended a Jesuit school. As a teenager, Coelho wanted to become a writer. Upon telling his mother this, she responded with "My dear, your father is an engineer. He's a logical, reasonable man with a very clear vision of the world. Do you actually know what it means to be a writer?" I was doing something that gave me food and water – to use the metaphor in "The Alchemist", I was working, I had a person whom I loved, I had money, but I was not fulfilling my dream. My dream was, and still is, to be a writer." Coelho would leave his lucrative career as a songwriter and pursue writing full-time.
