At an event last night two like-minded retired senior Navy Officers - one in his late 70's and another in his 50's could not stop speaking when they found out about my upcoming leadership book, The En-

chanted Boardroom: Evolve Into An Unstoppable Intuitive Leader, (Sept. 13th). It was as if a door was unlocked and they could speak freely without being judged.

You see, in the book, I dispel the mystery of merging the practical, tactical and logical with the intuitive, emotional, spiritual and physical sides of ourselves to provide whole leadership. It's about listening to those images, those disembodied words one hears, and those goosebumps and innate knowing and recognizing that they are powerful messages. Instead of running away you run towards them, incorporate and work with the messages that come because they give you needed insights to complement the facts. Both sides are critical to solid decision making. Leaders throughout history refer to working with intuition to lead wholly and completely. Yes, it's time to get this message out and liberate those amazing leaders who already use these tools, and are too scared to admit it, because of the fear of being judged and labeled "not all there. " In fact, they are the ones who are all there ....

so exciting!

Curtis-Taylor was born in Stamford, Lincolnshire in 1962 and grew up in Cumbria.[3]She has a twin sister. From 1964 to 1972 the family lived in Canada. She initially became interested in aviation while visiting air shows on the west coast of Canada with her family; her father in particular had a passion for vintage cars and planes. She had her first flying lesson at the age of 16, in British Columbia. She started to fly more regularly while living in New Zealand in the early 1980s, first in Queenstown and later at Ardmore Aerodrome in Auckland. In Auckland she earned her private and commercial pilot's licences, and her instructor rating.[4][7] While living in New Zealand, she joined the New Zealand Warbirds and began to fly vintage planes Page 38 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

In the late 1990s, Curtis-Taylor was involved in the organization of the Flying Legends show at Duxford Aerodrome, England. [7][8]

From 2008 until 2013 she took part in flybys at Old Warden Aerodrome in Bedfordshire, England, often flying a Ryan PT-22 military trainer. In 2011, she flew in the Flying Legends show at Duxford Aerodrome.[10][11] In December 2012, Curtis-Taylor accompanied a three-man Russian crew that was flying an Antonov An-2 biplane from Kiev to deliver in Cape Town, arriving in February 2013. [12][13] She flew at the Amy Johnson Memorial Air Show at Herne Bay, Kent, England, in 2015[14] as well as the Cowes Regatta in 2013, 2014 and 2015. With her aeroplane, the Boeing-Stearman "Spirit of Subscription link www.female-exec.com/

The journey comprised a total of 38 legs and 110 basic VFR flying hours, and followed the 1928 flight of Mary, Lady Heath, from Cape Town to Cairo, Egypt, travelling over Zimbabwe, Zambia, Tanzania, Kenya, Page 39 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

Uganda and Sudan. One section of Lady Heath's flight, the leg through Libya, could not be completed due to security issues. The journey took five years to prepare for, including finding a biplane which would cope with the heat of Africa. After a search in several countries, Curtis-Taylor decided to have a 1942 Boeing-Stearman restored. Designed in the early 1930s, the biplane was similar to Lady Heath's in size and design, but had a more powerful engine, additional fuel tanks, a GPS navigation system, and a transponder for use in controlled airspace. One of the legs of the journey was shared with a retired Royal Air Force Group Captain pilot and historian, Bill Sykes, and sought to locate the site where Lady Heath crash-landed in 1928. She also sourced sponsors for the trip, including Boeing and ExecuJet Aviation Group.[5] The main sponsor was Artemis Investment Management, and the biplane was hence named Spirit of Artemis.

making "false assertions about the nature of my flights"and has stated 'To suggest I have hoodwinked the public, deceived all my sponsors, the media, everyone, is just disgraceful'.

In 2014, the Light Aircraft Association awarded Curtis-Taylor the Bill Woodhams Trophy for a "feat of navigation, aviation, tenacity and endurance" on her flight from Cape Town to the United Kingdom.[18][19] In October 2016 members of the association voted to rescind the award. In a written statement, Curthe result of an tisTaylor said that the rescission vote was online media campaign to discredit her. In newspaper reports Curtis-Taylor has denied

On 1 October 2015 Curtis-Taylor departed from Farnborough, England, flying in Spirit of Artemis, arriving inSydneyAustralia on 9 January 2016. often with the aim of introducing CurtisTaylor to local communities and to inspire others, particularly women. In Dubai, the plane was part of the Boeing display at the Dubai Airshow in the United Arab Emirates,[6] while Curtis-Taylor was a keynote speaker at the International Aviation Women's Association conference. In Pakistan Curtis-Taylor was hosted by Squadron Leader Saira Batool of the Pakistani Air Force,[29] and visited a school in Karachi with Pakistani mountaineer Samina Baig to speak about their adventures and to inspire the children. In Singapore, she met with girls and women involved in the UN Women Page 41 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

programme Girls2Pioneers, which aims to encourage young women into STEM careers. In October 2015, she was appointed an Honorary Lieutenant Commander in the Royal Navy Reserve.[32] In May 2016, the Air League presented her with a framed address in recognition of her flight from Farnborough to Sydney.[33][34] In July 2016, the University of Portsmouth, England, awarded her an honorary doctorate degree.[35] Also in 2016, the Honourable Company of Air Pilots awarded her its Masters Medal for her work in "raising awareness of science and technology in general, and aviation in particular, amongst young women across the world". Deep-seated hatreds, prejudices and inequities as to AfricanAmericans have divided the America since the days of slavery. The United States has never accepted responsibility and atoned for the vestiges of slavery, with prejudice and the disparate treatment of African Americans continuing to this very day despite civil rights legislation dating back to 1964. For this reason, the United States remains plagued by racial problems. Almost every day appears another sad news story about an unarmed black man being unjustly shot or, after the fact, the utter unaccountability in the judicial system, giving rise to an unbridled rage now indiscriminately directed at police officers who are being murdered. Historical monuments and symbols from the Civil War, which only commemorate “white history” are being desecrated, while similar monuments and symbols as to the suffering endured by AfricanAmericans are sorely lacking. Our nation’s leaders - political, religious, educational and civic – at the local, state

and federal level must come together to heal a nation that is fractured and hurting. The means is through the creation of truth commissions.

What Is a Truth Commission? A truth commission is a bilateral process between individuals, communities and nations. Truth commissions are founded upon mutual goodwill allowing for open dialogue about past Subscription link www.female-exec.com/

ancestors. In many cases, reparations are made.

injustices and inequities. A truth commission works toward the releasing of historical hatreds and prejudices so that the process of healing may commence.

When a truth commission is convened painful stories are shared by both the aggrieved and the offended, even if such grievances are historical in nature. In all cases, a sincere apology is offered, whether it be for one’s own offenses or the offenses committed by one’s Page 47 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

“Cradle to Prison Pipeline” The shootings of unarmed black men followed by a lack of accountability or redress in the legal system has become an endemic despite efforts by the United States Department of Justice to make some sense out of the senseless. The numbers are bleak: Police killed 102 unarmed black people in 2015, nearly twice each week; Nearly 1 in 3 black persons killed by police in 2015 was unarmed; although the actual number may be higher due to underreporting; 37% of unarmed people killed by police were black in 2015 despite black people representing only 13% of the population: Unarmed black people were killed at 5x the rate of unarmed whites in 2015; Only 10 of the 102 cases in 2015 where an unarmed black person was killed by police resulted in officer(s) being charged with a crime, and only 2 of these deaths resulted in the conviction of the officers involved; The number of blacks killed has included an increase in the number of black female fatalities: and In the first half of 2016, blacks continued to be shot at 2.5 times the rate of whites with less than 10 percent having been unarmed and one-quarter having been previously diagnosed as mentally ill.

"Contemporary police killings and the trauma it creates are reminiscent of the racial terror of lynchings in the past. Impunity for state violence has resulted in the current human rights crisis and must be addressed as a matter of urgency," stated Mireille Fanon MendesFrance, Chair the United Nations Working Group of Experts on People of African Descent. The U.N. working group found that in 2014 37 percent of the state and federal prison populations were made up of black males. It suggested that the U.S. implement reforms, including reducing the use of mandatory minimum laws, ending racial profiling and excessive bail, and banning solitary confinement. There are other salient statistics. One in five American children live in poverty today, placing the U.S. as having the second highest child poverty rate among developed nations. Among black children the poverty rate approximates 40 percent. Ultimately,

Page 48 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

poverty creates a lack of hope among young black teenagers who have no expectation of living to maturity. As such, a black male has a one in three probability of being incarcerated. One out of nine black males will be imprisoned between the ages of 20 and 34. “This is America's pipeline to prison — a trajectory that leads to marginalized lives, imprisonment and often premature death. Although the majority of fourth graders cannot read at grade level, states spend about three times as much money per prisoner as per public school pupil,” according to the Subscription link www.female-exec.com/

phrase “America’s cradle to prison pipeline”.

Lynchings and Other Vestiges of Slavery Lynchings oc-

curred as recently as 1950. Between 1877 and 1950, in 12 southern states, there were 3,969 lynchings, 700 more than research previously indicated, according to civil rights attorney Bryan Stevenson, who authored a 2015 report, "Lynching in America: Confronting the Legacy of Racial Terror” for the Equal Justice Initiative (EJI).

The twelve states - Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia – have brushed this history under the rug while displaying monikers representative of white supremacy, practices that continue to this day.

Children’s Defense Fund.“Arguably the most important parallel between mass incarceration and Jim Crow is that both have served to define the meaning and significance of race in America. Indeed, a primary function of any racial caste system is to define the meaning of race in its time. Slavery defined what it meant to be black (a slave), and Jim Crow defined what it meant to be black (a secondclass citizen). Today mass incarceration defines the meaning of blackness in America: black people, especially black men, are criminals. That is what it means to be black,” penned Michelle Alexander, who coined the Page 49 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

The ancestors of many victims, fearing for their own lives, fled to the north. For instance after a 1912 lynching in Forsyth County, Georgia, white vigilantes distributed leaflets demanding that all black people leave the county or suffer deadly consequences. By 1920 the county’s black population had plummeted from 1100 to just thirty. This is a form of ethnic cleansing and it was a crime against humanity.

According to the EJI report, “The civil rights movement of the 1950s and 1960s challenged the legality of many of the

The Necessity for a Truth Commission Unifying America

“It’s difficult to deal emotionally with the history of slavery in America, which is why many whites have chosen not to. Yet it’s imperative that we do, because until we see clearly the line of development leading from slavery to the Civil War to the Ku Klux Klan to the civil rights movement to “benign neglect” to the “prisonindustrial complex,” America will continue to misunderstand the real problem. This is not just about how many bullets were shot into Michael Brown. The shots that matter most here are way, way too many to count,” stated spiritualist Marianne Williamson. The means to deal with this sordid history is through the creation of a truth commissions at the local, state and federal levels to address slavery and ongoing racial injustices and inequities. Both sides have be willing to come to Page 50 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

the table with goodwill and with the hope that they can build a better and more peaceful future for generations to come. While there have been a few truth commissions emanating from self-organizing community-based grassroots groups, the entire nation must be part of the process. Examples of local efforts include the Greensboro, North Carolina Truth and Reconciliation Commission which exposed the truth of a 1979 massacre of anti-racism activists by the Ku Klux Klan, in which the local police were complicit. It collected testimonies from survivors, Klan members and the police. It culminated in official apologies, public monuments, museum exhibits, a community justice center, a police review board, and anti-racism training for police.

There was also the Mississippi Truth Project, involving the racial misconduct of public officials between 1945 and 1975. It created a safe place where a racially divided community could come together to engage in truth-telling and collective remedial action.

Due to the complexity of the issues presented and widespread differences between communities, regions, and states, this must occur at many levels supported by not only the state and the federal governments, but also by religious, educational and civic leaders.

It is now time for America to collectively engage in a truth commission. “This process of reconciliation is messy and challenging. But it is also a source of hope. Through deep dialogue, truth-telling and taking action to make things as right as possible, we can forge new futures based on the mutual recognition of one another’s humanity. In this way, we can finally leave our past behind us… To move toward a reconciled America, we have to do the work ourselves,” stated advocate Fania Davis.

Examples of Truth Commissions

Page 51 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

While this seems to be a monumental undertaking, there have been two successful truth commissions at the national level; one in Germany and the other in South Africa. They are models for the United States to look to for guidance. In South Africa truth commissions as the harm done by Apartheid were created by peacekeeper and statesman, the late Nelson Mandela. In 1994, after Mr. Mandela was elected President of South Africa, he

Our future is dependent on balance and the ability to thrive within that balance. US agriculture, as in most countries, remains confined to rural areas far from the commercial marketplace. This means farm products have to be transported to rather robust and dense urban areas. Advances in social dynamics and the reconditioning of urban areas across the country continue to drive urban, "inner-city", populations skyward. Hipster/artists types are credited with kicking off the surge, along with an eclectic mix of white-collar suits, bluecollar skilled laborers, and students splitting the tab. As a result, urban areas that were once considered undesirable to live or invest in are now the fastest growing sector in major cities, such as Los Angeles and New York. The continuous Page 56 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

flow of new residents and businesses, such as boutique coffeehouses and restaurants has dramatically increased the demand for high quality food products at a reasonable price. Diversity plays a major role in all of this; as the population in these Urban Utopias increases so does the diversity of the people and, of course, the food. The upward expansion of already dense metropolitan areas is creating an interesting mathematical circumstance. If we take into account the basic idea of supply and demand and relate it to the rising cost of food, where is the ceiling? People are returning from far-flung sub-cities to live in more densely populated areas largely due to the economy and newly built urban amenities. When most of these cities began rampant expansion, building apartments and office buildings to serve the Subscription link www.female-exec.com/

growing population, agricultural production increased to match the demand. Although new technological advances, preservatives, and transportation helped usher in a new day of efficiency and profit, those areas were never designed to support a "super-sized" metropolis. As the growth of these populations began to taper off and later reseed, agriculture companies were able to keep pace. Starting in the 1960's and continuing throughout the ‘80's, these companies began to market prepackaged, pre-cooked, and preserved food products along with the advancement in manmade fibers, such as polyester. The tactics employed by the agricultural industry, which was being systematically bought out by Wall Street, acted as an insurance plan to

Page 57 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

cover the increasing risk. After the dust bowls of the ‘20s and ‘30s agriculture looked to set the deck by overproducing and preserving, which lead to the explosion of food-related health problems in the US. Agricultural technologies developed for this growing industry severely lowered the quality of food available to most of the American public. The difference in nutritional value between an affordable loaf of bread priced at around $1.50, and a high-quality alternative priced closer to $6 is remarkable. Although it may seem as if all the blame should go to powerful food corporations, it is the general population's fault for not advocating local agricultural solutions. Before the global net boom, sending and receiving information was rather slow, considerably crude by today's standards. Subscription link www.female-exec.com/s.html

Advancements in file sharing, data processing, and our social media presence should push us as a community to be just as efficient in critical civic functions as we are, say, using Snapchat from a trendy restaurant. This unveils a new issue, how can we use all of these new gadgets and processing power to make our lives better as a global community. Efficiency in management, labor, production, civic and personal health is mandatory. In today's market collecting, preparing, and transporting agricultural goods cost more to the producer and buyer than the actual cost of the product; increasing the price while lowering the quality. At the current growth rate the cost of food will eventually outpace every other living expense. Our quality of life is largely dependent on access to a quality diet and Page 58 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

shelter. The rising cost of food can be linked to the low standardized test scores associated with poverty-stricken areas. For the better part of the last half century this pertained largely to densely populated urban areas with little to no political influence. Perceptions have changed, demographics have changed, the investors are back and the population is as diverse as the sneakers they wear. They need food but not just any food. They demand fresh, safe, organic, self-sustaining, gluten-free, kid-friendly, preservative-free, authentic, and local agricultural products. Restaurants struggling to compete within this growing market are attempting to maintain a $10-15 dollar plate with a few dishes around $20 bucks. This optimal price range keeps the jetsetters out throughout the week buying coffee and possibly catching dinner with their folks. Subscription link www.female-exec.com/

People are trying new types of foods and recipes that require access to fresh food at an affordable price. The days of frozen meat and vegetables thawing on the kitchen counter are over. People want to cook what they ate last week at the new fusion restaurant, or what they saw on the food network, or a fresh take on a traditional classic. Color, spice, and flavor drives the new urban palette through creative design spaces and open office layouts. Although quality food is readily available in most big cities in America, the price point exceeds the limitations of a middle class budget. Poverty projections start by analyzing a demographic's access to a quality diet throughout the year. Critical nutrition markers

Page 59 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

are used to track child development and those results are directly related to academic success. People in demographics classically affected by this circumstance are often attached to a negative stigma. A stigma which raises the value of any foreseen risk, investors and/or government agencies must bet against to provide adequate funding. The question is funding for what? Social reform, commercial reform, or government backed projects. A revolution must take place in the hands of people affected by the current situation. Lowering the critical cost of a living expense, such as fresh food, will help repair the tarnished relationship between the average citizen and investors. Increasing the availability of basic opportunities across the board, especially the middle

class, raises the standard of living for everyone in the country. Improving the efficiency of middle class economics makes the wealthy richer. The increase in consumer spending, along with a surge in tax revenue, will push key economically challenged demographics above the poverty line. Sounds like a great solution to some of the biggest issues that plague a “rich” country, in which half of the prepared food is discarded, while people nearby struggle with the effects of hunger. These facts highlight the logistical failures of our agricultural supply and demand system. In sports, for example, if an athlete’s success rate per minute is high he is a greater asset to the team. If the same athlete gets the same result but uses twice as many chances he is a greater risk to the team's success. Agriculture overproduces most products brought to market, while the demand for fresh product has exploded over the last decade creating the "foodie" all organic bubble. Demand and production are high but supply has become a complete failure. Mark-ups on every product has tightened the belts of the American family

Page 60 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

causing products to sit on shelves longer, requiring the extensive use of harmful preservatives. As the industry changed, farms were subsequently owned by corporations/ banks and became Wall Street investment packages. The American market was flooded with overly processed food to increase profit margins. Researchers have recently connected the use of low fat artificial butter with the rise in heart disease per capita in America. Obesity rates among

those who cannot afford high quality food is much higher.

The Answer Imagine, if instead of an army of trucks delivering food to the sprawl of stores throughout a city from every conceivable direction, freight elevators delivered food from a few floors above. If the entire agricultural process was self-contained within the city limits without the need to reclassify or clear the land. This can be done without disturbing the Page 61 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

look and feel of a modern urban landscape by converting preexisting buildings into “hot house” farms. These farms use indoor ecosystems to recreate the effects of a natural system so as to grow a diverse crop of food products. New buildings and conversions can support the method, which uses basic water and electrical systems. The entire building acts as a filter to grow and process food products. Light enters through semi-translucent solar paneling, reaching crops that are arranged in layers depending on the amount of desirable light. These levels will be populated with bees and other supporting insects. Below the grow trays will be a water system populated with fish and other aquatic produce. The layer below the water system will act as a filter releasing the water onto a layer housing small live produce, such as poultry. The “free range” layer will also house bees and system-supporting agriculture. These basic layers will repeat, one supporting the next. This is a simple example of a possible configuration which can be customized for the consumer base. Imagine this type of self-contained hydroelectric self-filtering Vertical Farm existed in the center of a major city. Developers can choose the type of configuration required to maximize production. The logistics of the supply chain would reduce the price of food Subscription link www.female-exec.com/s.html

Here is their mission statement - We use the power of creativity to help brands build enduring love and loyalty. Kind of puts the purpose in perspective, yet Periscope has become so much more than that.

Okay so what’s so great about Periscope. 1) Periscope is an actual example of how live video chat is changing the way that Page 65 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

businesses reach their target markets quickly and easily. 2) It integrates to Twitter giving you access to your followers and an audience immediately that is mobile savvy and video hungry. 3) Great for engaging with customers, prospects and anyone who wants to check out what you have to say. Profile your products, services or just talk about some element of the company and it’s brand. Subscription link www.female-exec.com/s.html

4) It’s easy to use - once you get set up, you just hit Start Broadcast and start talking. Your grandma could even handle this one.

5) The videos last only 24 hours online which results result in people engaging and responding quickly before it’s gone. However, you can save to your camera and upload to YouTube later for further use quickly and easily, plus use add-ons such as katch.me to manage and store. This helps with building FAQ videos, and a gallery for prospects and customers to reference. 6) It increases transparency between a company and it’s market. This increases trust, improves customer interaction, makes you appear more genuine and availability to answer live questions face to face can lead to more sales, faster.

9) Allows you to become a journalist on the ground. Capture the good, the bad and the motivational and bring to light events, people, places and things that need to be known. I did one from my favorite Dry Cleaners and I did one live from China when the Beijing celebration was happening that shut down the city. (and yes, Twitter isn’t allowed in China) 10) Last but not least, it’s free. So what are the cons of Periscope. It’s addictive. if you thought you could lose time on Facebook, watch out after spreading some hearts on the latest broadcast you may realize that a full hour has gone by. It’s live so anything can happen or be said, so if you’re sensitive you may just have to be selective with what you watch.

7) Show the love and monitor interaction via Hearts. This feature lets you send virtual hearts in real time. Getting more hearts means you’re audience is engaged and in agreement. You may know from this the perfect time to introduce a close into the conversation.

But if you’re ready to dive in here are a few links to help you out;

The Short Bio Elizabeth II (Elizabeth Alexandra Mary; born 21 April 1926[a]) is, and has been since her accession in 1952, Queen of the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, and Head of the Commonwealth. She is also Queen of 12 countries that have become independent since her accession: Jamaica, Barbados, the Bahamas, Grenada,Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Tuvalu, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Belize, Antigua and Barbuda, and Saint Kitts and Nevis. Elizabeth was born in London to the Duke and Duchess of York, later King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, and was the elder of their two daughters. She was educated privately at home.

Page 74 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

Her father acceded to the throne on theabdication of his brother Edward VIII in 1936, from which time she was the heir presumptive. She began to undertake public duties during the Second World War, serving in the Auxiliary Territorial Service. In 1947, she married Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, with whom she has four children: Charles, Anne, Andrew, and Edward. Elizabeth's many historic visits and meetings include a state visit to the Republic of Ireland and reciprocal visits to and from the Pope. She has seen major constitutional changes, such as devolution in the United Kingdom, Canadian patriation, and the decolonisation of Africa. She has also reigned through various wars and conflicts involving many of her realms. She is the world's oldest reigning monarch as well as Britain's longestlived. In 2015, she surpassed the reign of her great-greatgrandmother, Queen Victoria, to become the longest-reigning British monarch and the longest-reigning queen regnant and female head of state in world history.

Times of personal significance have included the births and marriages of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, her coronation in 1953, and the celebration of milestones such as her Silver, Golden and DiamondJubilees in 1977, 2002, and 2012, respectively. Moments of sadness for her include the death of her father, aged 56; the assassination of Prince Philip's uncle, Lord Mountbatten; the breakdown of her children's marriages in 1992 (her annus horribilis); the death in 1997 of her son's ex-wife, Diana, Princess of Wales; and the deaths of her mother and sister in 2002. Elizabeth has occasionally faced republican sentiments and severe press criticism of theroyal family, but support for the monarchy remains high, as does her personal popularity.

Management Style Forward thinker, long term planner, adaptive and astute listener.

 

 No one is beyond getting a look.  During meetings she listens and does allow

the other party to talk and then she gives her opinion.   She has managed the monarchy with a real awareness of public opinion, temperament and change. Because of her guidance, the monarchy is not exit in a protective bubble. It is current, present and not out of touch. She’s made 21st century decisions, for the future Kings and Queens. For example the oldest child girl or boy can inherit the throne from this point forward. First Born Granddaughters can be queen even if they have little brothers. Finally, because she has brought the monarchy into the 21st century and with help of global connectivity, she has become everyone’s queen. In speaking with a Londoner a few weeks ago, I asked him “ does she still seem to hold the same influence?” and his comment was “oh yes! When she’s on the air you can feel it (power and influence) oozing through the television”. And all I can say is “It’s Good to be Queen”.

Queen Elizabeth II has always been forward thinking. She was the first to televise her own coronation which was the beginning of a life time relationship with the media. Queen Elizabeth has been the face and voice of the British monarchy for over 60 years. She has successfully brought the monarchy into the 21st century. Needless to say, she has inspired women all over the world with the silent message- “Stand your ground and rule with grace and dignity. Based on interviews, comments for over half a century, the following comments on her management style can be summarized as follows:   She listens very attentively   She plans and prepares for the next step up. Just as she did before becoming queen. (what an interesting thought “Just in case I become queen- let me be ready”)   She asks questions and does linger on the details when warranted to make sure it

meets her expectations.

The Short Bio Born in Chicago and raised in the suburb of Park Ridge, Illinois, Clinton attended Wellesley College, graduating in 1969, and earned a J.D. from Yale Law School in 1973. After serving as a congressional legal counsel, she moved to Arkansas, marrying Bill Clinton in 1975. In 1977, she cofounded Arkansas Advocates for Children and Families. She was appointed the first female chair of the Legal Services Corporation in 1978, and, the following year, became the first woman partner at Rose Law Firm. As First Lady of Arkansas (1979–81, 1983–92), she led a task force whose recommendations helped reform Arkansas's public schools, and served on several corporate boards.

At the 1995 UN conference on women, held in Beijing, Clinton stated in a then controversial and influential speech, that "human rights are women's rights and women's rights are human rights". Her marriage endured the Lewinsky scandal of 1998, and her role as first lady drew apolarized response from the public. Clinton was elected in 2000 as the first female senator from New York, the only first lady ever to have sought elective office. Following the September 11 attacks, she voted to approve

As First Lady of the United States, Clinton led the unsuccessful effort to enact the Clinton health care plan of 1993. In 1997 and 1999, she helped create the State Children's Health Insurance Program. She also tackled the problems of adoption and family safety and foster care.

the war in Afghanistan. She also voted for the Iraq Resolution, which she later regretted. She took a leading role in investigating the health issues faced by 9/11 first responders. She voted against the Bush tax cuts. She was re-elected to the Senate in 2006. Running for president in 2008, she won far more delegates than any previous female candidate, but lost the Democratic nomination to Illinois Senator Barack Obama. As Secretary of State in the Obama administration from 2009 to 2013, Clinton responded to the Arab Spring, during which she advocated the U.S. military intervention in Libya. She helped organize a diplomatic isolation and international sanctions regime against Iran, in an effort to force curtailment of that country's nuclear program; this would eventually lead to the multinational Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action agreement in 2015. Leaving office after Obama's first term, she wrote her fifth book and undertook speaking engagements before announcing her second presidential run in the 2016 election. Clinton received the most votes and primary delegates in the 2016 Democratic primaries, formally accepting her party's nomination for President of the United States on July 28, 2016,

desired change. In summarizing her management style, through interviews, tapes and other research these are the most significant traits in her management style. 1. 1. Strategic thinker in output: She considers the best for the most relevant reasons. Rather than go all in for a single win on a very specific group, she is able to look at the entire event, purpose or group and plan a longer strategic solution. Whether she decides to communicate that in great detail –it depends. But she thinks about the greatest best for the greatest number concerned. 2. 2. Strategic thinker on Input: Hillary looks at the decisions and the decision makers. She actually knows who’s playing ball, their positions, their capacity to act, how to approach them and what they are likely to say before she picks up the phone. (Side note: I can almost bet when teachers and relatives looked in her eyes as a baby, they could tell-This one is a thinker). 3. 3. She does gather consensus 4. 4. She is a team player, back field as well as team captain. 5. 5. She can navigate the back office. Who to call to get what done. 6. 6. She does not give up. 7. 7. Battle proven 8. 8. Her need for change comes from a deep place. Not wanting any other 4 year old children or any disadvantage person to be overlooked or neglected. As her grandmother was as a child.

or as a young adult. To be honest, it’s only when I was in my early 20’s that I learned how to use a checkbook (self-taught) now online banking, but it was later in life that I learn how to balance it due to over spending. This seems to be an epidemic that is going on across our country; writing checks for funds we don’t have at an accelerating pace of overspending. One would think we all need a refresher course on balancing our assets vs. debts. To review what is going on with our government, currently we are $20 trillion in debt and to give you a more in-depth understanding of what $1 trillion looks like; it will be the equivalent of one thousand times one billion which Subscription link www.female-exec.com/

According to the Congressional Budget Office or CBO (a Nonpartisan Analysis for the U.S. Congress), the 2017 Long -term Budget Outlook projections show a substantial imbalance looming in the federal budget over the next 30 years, with spending outpacing revenues by steadily increasing amounts. As a result, if current laws generally remained unchanged, federal debt would reach an unprecedented share of the GDP, intensifying pressures on the federal budget, dampening economic growth, limiting the nation’s ability to respond to unforeseen events, and increasing the likelihood of a fiscal crisis.

alance a checkere a child? equals one trillion or one with twelve zeros behind it ($1,000,000,000,000.) Our Gross Domestic Product (a basic measure of market value of all final goods and services made within the US border in a year) earnings are $18 trillion, while our spending is $6 trillion, which puts the GDP debt ratio at a negative -104%, the revenue to GDP ratio is 38.885%, and spending to GDP ratio is a negative -35.797%. In laymen terms, we are spending most of our earnings with little left. Now, you may be asking yourself, how does this affect me? Well, because the national debt is $20 trillion we the people are responsible for paying this back, so your portion of the debt per citizen is $61,000.00 and per taxpayer is $165,564.00 (usdebtclock.org 2017.) Page 87 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

This means if we don’t start curtailing our spending, then we will not have the funds to cover the essentials for which we Americans depend on like;

Medicare/Medicaid, Social Security, Pensions as well as our law enforcement, military, schools and social services will all feel the strain of which a potential financial crisis will cause. With Social Security being our largest federal programs, paying out benefits to retired workers which may include their dependents and survivors throughout their old age, (pay attention as it may change) as well as Survivors Insurance program and Disability, and because it is financed through payroll taxes a decline in the economy can cause for benefits to shrink. So, tell me, can you live without these benefits? Subscription link www.female-exec.com/s.html

Currently, the average cost of healthcare for a family of four in our country is $25,826 annually according to the Milliman Medical Index (an actuarial firm). This cost has more than tripled since 2001 when healthcare cost was $8,414.00. And with a possible loss of benefits in Medicare/ Medicaid and Social Security, this place the American people in a climacteric arena of their financial security. If healthcare cost should triple again, then we are looking at paying at least $78,000 per year by 2031, and this does not include prescription cost. Do you want to choose between your health and shelter? The additional part of the Federal Debt conundrum is the statutory limit has come to an end as of March 2017. Under our current law, the Department of Treasury will have reached their limit of borrowing. What this means is the debt limit also known as the debt ceiling is at its maximum amount of debt the Department of Treasury can issue the public and other government agencies, which includes Social Security, and Medicare benefits, military salaries, interest on the national debt, tax refunds, and other payments. The debt limit does not authorize Page 88 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

new spending commitments. It simply allows the government to finance existing legal obligations that Congresses and presidents of both parties have made in the past. If the Department of Treasury does not increase the debt limit, it will cause the government to default on their loans and legal obligation which will be catastrophic for our economy and America. As of March 16th, the Department of Treasury has now taking "extraordinary measures" to borrow additional funds without breaching the new debt ceiling, and if the debt limit remains unchanged, those measures will probably be exhausted and the Treasury will probably run out of cash sometime in the fall of 2017 (Congressional Budget Office 2017.)

Extraordinary Measures So, what are the "extraordinary measures the Department of Treasury must take? According to the CBO, the following Subscription link www.female-exec.com/

measures are available:  Suspend the investments of the Thrift Savings Plan’s G Fund. (Otherwise rolled over or reinvested daily, such investments totaled $224 billion in Treasury securities as of January 31, 2017.)  Suspend investments of the Exchange Stabilization Fund. (Otherwise rolled over daily, such investments totaled $22 billion as of January 31, 2017.)  For the Civil Service Retirement and Disability Fund (CSRDF) and Postal Service Retiree Health Benefits Fund (PSRHBF), suspend the issuance of new securities (which total about $3 billion each month), the reinvestment of maturing securities (expected to amount to about $75 billion on June 30, 2017), semiannual interest payments ( Page 89 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

 expected to total $14 billion on June 30,

2017), and amortization payments (expected to total $38 billion on September 30, 2017).  Redeem, in advance, securities held by the CSRDF and the PSRHBF in amounts equal in value to benefit payments due soon. (Such payments are valued at about $8 billion per month.)  Suspend the issuance of new State and Local Government Series (SLGS) securities and savings bonds. (Between $5 billion and $12 billion in SLGS securities and savings bonds are generally issued each month.)  Exchange Federal Financing Bank securities, which do not count against the debt limit, for an equal amount of Treasury securities held by the CSRDF. In a letter written to Paul D. Ryan Speaker of the House from Secretary of Treasure Steve T. Mnuchin dated March 16, 2017, the measures that were taken are: 1. Suspension of the Government Security Investment Fund also known as the G Fund. 2. A Thrift Savings Plan retirement program for federal employees and members of the uniformed services like a 401(k) plan; the G Fund is one component of the plan and is invested solely in Treasury securities. 3. Civil Service Retirement and Disability Fund (CSRDF) and Postal Service Retiree Health Benefits Fund (PSRHBF), suspension. These extraordinary events will give us some time; however, it depends on how Page 90 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

much we are spending during the time frame. Also, if current governing taxes and spending remain in place without any changes, and continue in a full year, the government will find themselves defaulting on financial obligations, which will affect the people and create more debt.

What Are the Solutions? Now that we have heard the bad news, I'm sure you are asking; what measures can I take to protect myself? Well, first I want you to know this is not the first time we have been in this position. History has a way of repeating itself as finance is not merely prone to crises, they shape them (Financial Crises n.a.), and we can take precaution measures.

History of Financial Crisis  It was the Panic of 1792 when the expansion of credit by the new Bank of the United States prompted speculations of bank stocks and government debt by William Duer and others.  1857 Railroad crisis entranced by technology, investors piled into railway firms whose earnings did not match up to their valuation.  1907 Knickerbocker crisis when trust companies, which acted like banks but were lightly regulated, came unstuck when speculators tried to prop up falling share prices with borrowed funds.  1929 Wall Street crash. The end of the roaring 20’s when the Fed raised interest rates to cool markets, and a fraud in London triggered a crash.  The oil crisis in 1973-1974. The collapse of the Bretton Wood system, combined with and embargo imposed by Arab oil exporters, caused a slump across the Western World.Female Executive Page 91 E The Magazine for Today’s

 2008 Subprime crisis. Elaborate mortgage-

related securities designed to reduce risk encouraged investors to pile into the American housing market, which then crashed.

Solutions Here are five solutions that can assist you on your road to conquering your financial fears.  Seek knowledge on financial matters and benefits that are given to you by a professional. As well as, do some checking on your own. The more you know, the more tools you have in your arsenal to make good decisions.  Have a few buckets when it comes to savings. Don't depend on one source. The more buckets you have, the better.  Look for ways to save on taxes. You should want to pay tax on the seed, not the harvest. Spend money wisely. Think about how you purchase items and what value does it bring to your future. Subscription link www.female-exec.com/s.html Finally, learn to manage what you have

When you read it is O.K to be a B.R.A.T., you probably think about a child screaming at the top of their lungs stomping their foot, right? Not exactly what you aspire to be. I agree. If you think about it, isn’t that what we become when we are stressed beyond capacity, feeling that we are at the end of our rope? Lack of care for ourselves will turn us in to that image every day and twice on Sunday. Stress can bring the strongest person to their knees, and when it happens it is never pretty.

Screaming, being difficult and pushing success away are not characteristics of a B.R.A.T., they are symptoms of what I call the “Human Doing Syndrome.” As busy successful women we wear many hats; businesswoman, partner, caretaker, taxi driver, manager; if it needs to get done we do it. We are so awesome at taking care of everyone else in our lives we run out of energy and time for ourselves. Too many woman I meet feel that taking care of themselves feels too selfish. Or I meet

Page 96 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

the exact opposite; they love the idea, but they have no idea of how to do it. So either way, they keep doing what they are doing until something snaps. Screaming, being difficult, controlling things and pushing success away are not characteristics of a B.R.A.T., they are symptoms of what I call the “Human Doing Syndrome.” The Human Doing Syndrome happens when the pursuit of achieving success gets us so caught up in the doing of life, we forget to connect with the being of life. We lose our connection to the experience of being enough. In our misguided pursuit of success, we sacrifice important things in the hopes of doing enough to earn it. On this road we give up something essential, something we never meant to give up; our well-being. We find ourselves slaves to what I call our mind static. Our natural state of being is to feel whole complete and perfect. As children we knew this. As adults we find ourselves in a constant state of busyness doing - doing -

doing until something breaks. When it does do we stop? No, we ignore it, medicate it and keep doing. If that is what your life has become, a series on never ending tasks, then please stop; that is not what life is about.

Success is our birthright and it not something that we have to sacrifice ourselves for Learning to put yourself first is the only way to really have it all. And for the record, I do believe we can have it all, but it requires a new approach to receiving success. An approach that creates less stress, burn-out and anxiety. Success is our birthright, and it is not something that we have to sacrifice ourselves for; success is something that we already are. Our job as human beings is to grow and prepare ourselves to receive it every day, regardless of our life circumstance.

The problem is, we have forgotten how to do that. In the process of becoming

adults we get so busy getting ready for life, we forgot to find a way to be in our lives. We not only forgot to put ourselves first, we forget to put ourselves on the list at all. When we try to make a change there is something or someone telling us that something is more important. It is not anyone’s fault. It is our culture. I grew up in a loving American-Armenian, dysfunctional, yet traditional middle class family. My need to break out and live a dream they couldn’t imagine or understand was tough on all of us. If you can relate to my story you too may have gotten the message that asking for what you desired was being a “spoiled brat.” I’m here to tell you it is okay to be a BRAT. In fact, I encourage it, with my family’s blessing. J These days, my

mom encourages me to get on my BRATmobile every chance she gets, and I love her for it.

Page 97 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

Let’s get in touch with your inner BRAT right now. Take a moment and remember when you were a child. Remember a happy time in your childhood when you felt awesome, whole and enough. If that is difficult for you, think of your own children or those you know. Notice how wide-eyed, innocent and open they are. Notice how they play? It is so magical how they can think of something and boom…they become it. With all of their being they experience what they need in that moment. Small children live in the moment and they trust their needs will be met. They know they are worthy of greatness and they expect nothing less. What I really appreciate is they ask until they get something. No is never a permanent answer. It

is true, isn’t it? When you tell a small child no, what is their first response? “Why?” or “ I need it I really do.” Those were my niece’s favorite lines

as a toddler and a small child. If

we persisted with no she would ask how we could make it a yes. Page 98 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

One cannot give from an empty well. Once upon a time you were that child who believed everything was available to you. You felt worthy and you knew you deserved everything you desired. You were the child who focused singlemindedly on getting what you wanted and kept pushing until you got it. Even if you didn’t ask out right like my niece, you found your own special way of getting your needs met. You naturally understood and applied the key principles to achieving success:   Belief (I’m entitled to it)   Self-esteem (I deserve it)   Focus (I see it and desire it now)   Commitment (I’ll keep going until I get it).

Being a BRAT restores these four things. With these skills back in place, you find yourself able to make things happen on your terms.

You begin to remember what too many adults have forgotten; one cannot give from an empty well. If we don’t ask for anything or refuse to receive, we have nothing to

With a B.R.A.T., mindset you naturally find time for yourself, share.

Page 99 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

and in that process you find time for the things and people that are important. You find getting things done is no longer a struggle. It is something you enjoy and look forward to. You find yourself getting excited knowing everything is going to work out. Trusting the process becomes easy and allows you+ to relax and have fun. Being a BRAT allows us to share and give to others. We are trustworthy and know to make the impossible possible. Reconnecting with your inner BRAT is liberating, empowering and most of all lots of fun. It brings back the magic and wonder back to your life.

Here’s how bring your B.R.A.T. Back:

Believe: You have been born with innate desire, self-esteem and selfconfidence to pursue your dreams. The power of belief is amazing. Here is an opportunity to look the word in a new way.

The secret to success is right in-front of you - Be-live. To live it you need to be it. Belief has transformed what some people call insurmountable obstacles in my life. In your most stressful moment trust that and walk forward in the belief that when you do the bridge will appear and you will see your next step

Receive:

Most of us starve at our own banquet because we don’t recognize our bounty. We get served an abundance of nutrition but, because it didn’t come in the form we are familiar with, we turn it away and then complain that the universe doesn’t come through. Be willing to receive success; let go of your expectations of how you THINK it should look. I am here to tell you success is your birthright but it never looks the way you think it should. Being stuck in expectation makes you blind to what you already have. The secret to receiving is to believe and see that you already have it. Once you can see and feel that you can receive more and it will feel wonderful.

remember: Where attention goes, energy flows — forming thoughts that fuel action and create desired results. Ask yourself each day; “What is one action I can take to make my dream happen?” No matter how small it may be take it and be proud of yourself. You are one step closer and it is enough.

Teach: It is important to pay it forward. Give what you desire most to receive. Once you realize that being a B.R.A.T. is more than okay, be willing to teach others who desire to be a B.R.A.T. too. What you share with others comes back to you tenfold. This was the biggest lesson I learned on my journey re-discovering my inner brat. Helping others has accelerated my journey and has made the most difficult days of my life worth experiencing.

When I was 40, in my initial visit with a new dentist, I learned for the first time that my root canal was infected. Pointing to the white spot in the x-ray, she asked me how long I had been having problems with this root canal. “I didn't know I had problems with it,” I said. I got the root canal at age 24, and it was done and good as far as I was concerned. "Well, if it doesn't bother you, we don't need to do anything," she said. I happily agreed, feeling relieved to be free from any extra dental treatments and expenses. So we left it in.

When I was 43, I was diagnosed with a Stage 2B Grade 3 breast cancer. I started reading about cancer on my own diligently, which eventually led to my health and lifestyle coaching certifications. Two years after I finished the oncology treatments, one day I read that a high percentage of breast cancer patients (over 90%) had an infected root canal in the same meridian as the cancerous tumor. I got chills down my spine. I am one of those women! The tumor was in my left breast. The infected root canal was on my left side. So what did this mean? I had to know. I looked up this topic tirelessly. I could quickly see that this was a controversial matter.

I found stories claiming strong evidence of connection between breast cancer and root canal.

Page 106 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

They all reported staggering numbers, some as high as 97% of their breast cancer patients having root canal-filled teeth. Then there were those who harshly accused these studies as fabrication and quackery, that there was no such thing as carcinogenic infection of the root canal. This opposition has been mighty, limiting the studies to be performed on small private funds by individual physicians and dentists who simply kept track of their own patients. This also limited the education and awareness of this very solid connection between breast cancer and root canals, even within the dental industry. And several of my friends who happen to be dentists have told me this was nonsense. But does that mean the study results were not true? What about me? No matter how strong the quackery accusations were, I couldn’t deny that the tumor in my left breast used to be located just six inches away from the infected root canal in the left side of my mouth. I couldn’t shake it. I had to believe that the connection was valid. In my continued research, I learned that this connection would actually manifest in bigger scale. Den-

tal toxins (not just root canal) have shown strong connections to all cancers (not just breast cancer). Common dental toxins are: root canal-filled teeth, cavitations, mercury amalgam fillings, and metals in various dental work. But before I go further in sharing my findings, I must

state clearly that cancer is a disease that occurs to an impaired immune system. Anything that weakens the immune system is a direct or indirect cause of cancer. So yes, there are lots of compounding factors that cause cancer, both in physical and emotional ways. Another very important fact about breast cancer is that it takes years (estimated 10 to 15 years in most cases) to develop a tumor large enough to be visible in a scan. So the goal, with or without a known diagnosis, is to strengthen the immune system.

Dental Toxin: Root Canal-Filled Teeth Dr. Weston Price DDS is the first dentist who reported that root canal fillings were prone to infections, causing various diseases and genetic mutations. This was too much whistleblowing for 1922, Page 107 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

however. The findings from his 25-year research (with 60 fellow researchers) recorded in 1,174-page document were suppressed by the American Dental Association for 70 years. Then, a retired founding member of the American Association of Endodontists, Dr. George Meinig DDS read the entire document in 1993 and recognized it as one of the greatest medical discoveries of all time. Based on this research document by Dr. Weston Price, Dr. Meinig wrote a book titled Root Canal Cover-Up in 1994. In it, he shares that all root canal-filled teeth immediately develop infective agents that lead to diseases such as:   cancer  

 heart disease  neurological disease

(including Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis and Multiple Sclerosis)  autoimmune diseases (Lupus, Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Grave’s Disease)

Subscription link www.female-exec.com/s.html

 

 rheumatic joint diseases  kidney disease

In his book Cancer-Free Bill Henderson states, "We have found that root canal-filled teeth are the direct cause of most cancers. The toxins are not visible on x-rays. Usually there is no swelling or pain. The source of the toxins are the anaerobic bacteria (bacteria which do not require oxygen) growing inside the millions of tiny tubules in even the smallest tooth. The thio-ethers (gases) put out by these bacteria are extremely toxic. Every root canal-filled tooth has these bacteria in it. No exceptions. Their toxins find their way into your bloodstream 24/7." So, when the dentist told me that we would leave the infected root canal in because I wasn’t feeling any pain, I should have known that was false logic. I didn’t feel the pain from the infection because it was root canal – a dead tooth! Dentists are the only Page 108 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

medical specialists who leave dead tissues in a living body. They are also the only ones who leave a known infection in a healthy body. Their training has brainwashed them to do so.

Removing the Infected Root Canal -Filled Tooth The second half of my story is that I had to get my infected root canal-filled tooth removed. It had been sending toxins into my system for 19 years and I was not willing to let it continue. Finding a dentist who knew how to properly extract it was a challenge. Every traditionally trained dentist that I talked to refused to do it. They all insisted that preserving the original dental structure was the top priority, even if it meant leaving infected dead tissues in my body!

Subscription link www.female-

I finally found a systemic dentist last summer and had him perform the removal. For the first couple of months, the gum was still very raw. Then I decided to abandon my toothless look and got a temporary tooth replacement (a “flipper”) which is what I still wear. Dental implants are not recommended until the gum is completely healed, which can take up to a year. Any invasion in the gum before then would raise the risk of another infection. Even though many publications warn that root canal-filled teeth become infected almost immediately, I don’t know if mine was. Detection of this infection is easily done, however. A simple x-ray will show it. Unfortunately, your dentist may not bring it up unless: 1) you specifically ask if it’s infected, or 2) you complain of a toothache. So be proactive.

Finding a Good Dentist The root canal toxin problems are treatable, but only by a competent dentist who understands the physiology of the jaw and treats the dental issues as a part of the entire body. It is absolutely paramount that the dentist uses non-toxic methods in all procedures performed. All newly diagnosed patients of cancer,

Page 109 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

autoimmune diseases, neurodegenerative diseases, and all conditions with which root canal toxins are closely associated, should get their root canal properly removed before beginning any treatment for the diseases. They won’t heal from the disease until there is no more infection challenging their immune system. Finding this good dentist can be difficult, however. I recommend two websites, International Academy of Biological Dentistry and Medicine (IABDM) and International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology (IAOMT). They have listings of certified dentists, but I should warn you that not all dentists are created equal. Always do your homework to find out who these people are, and choose one who has relevant experience in non-toxic systemic dentistry.

and the care for the vine is indeed central in this winery’s philosophy. ’A Vita winery is owned by Francesco Maria De Franco and he manages it together with his wife, Laura Violino. Francesco started out less

In the last article, Cirò Marina and Strongoli in Calabria were very much in focus. This will also be the case here, where I will start out in Cirò Marina at ’A Vita winery and then head towards Strongoli and Fattoria San Sebastiano that produces olive oil and has an agritourism. Last, but not least, I will talk about Gal Kroton, which is a consortium giving support to local agricultural projects in the rural area around Crotone. The idea was to write a series of three articles about wineries in this area of Calabria, but the third and last article I will only publish at the end of the summer after, hopefully, having visited there again.

´A Vita Winery in Cirò Marina ´A Vita in the Calabrian dialect means vine

Page 116 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

than 10 years ago when he took over the family vineyard and began focusing on an organic method and approach. His aim is to re-evaluate the local territory, the soil, and the cultivation of the Gaglioppo. Sergio Arcuri, who I talked about last month, only cultivates Gaglioppo, while Francesco produces both Gaglioppo and Greco Bianco in his vineyards. Francesco has four different vineyards to a total of 20 acres, namely Vigna Muzzunetto, Vigna Sant’Anastasia, Vigna Feudo Terreno, and Vigna Frassá (Greco Bianco). The oldest one, Muzzunetto, dates back to 1967 and the others were planted in 2003.

A bit of history... Francesco has not always been making wine in Calabria, in fact, as mentioned above, he only recently returned to take over the family winery. He studied to become an architect in Florence and then worked as such in San Marino for several years. At a certain point, he decided to change the direction of his life and go back to his roots in Calabria to start making wine. However, he first returned to the school bench studying oenology for four years in Conegliano in Veneto, and thereafter got hands-on practice in wine making in Chile and Friuli Venezia Giulia. Just as many other small

wine producers in Calabria, Francesco is against the new rules that were implemented recently that allow the use of up to 10% of international grapes in Cirò Doc wines. He believes that it is important to valorize the Gaglioppo grape, which is known for being typical of Calabria, and further stresses that the addition of international grapes makes the Cirò Doc wine into something unnatural. Furthermore, he is convinced about the importance of an organic cultivation process and that the strength of the small wine makers is to produce a wine that tells a story about the soil and the territory. Thus, a Cirò Doc made with 100% Gaglioppo is a must. (See further, Luciano Ferraro’s article in Corriere Della Sera, January 31, 2014.) The above mentioned article in Corriere Della Sera in early 2014, was published after the mention of ’A Vita’s wine earlier that year, on January 8th, by The New York Times wine critic, Erik Asimov. He had tasted the ’A Vita Ciró Rosso Classico Superiore 2010 and described it more or less as a new and fresh interpretation of Cirò with elegant tannins. Of course, several other mostly Italian wine writers have written about ’A Vita’s new version of Ciró wines before, as well as after, the above mentioned articles, but perhaps the international recognition helped put Francesco’s wines even more on the general wine map. Francesco is a part of those dynamic Cirò Doc producers who have been nominated Cirò Boys, on

the model of a group of innovative producers in Piemonte in the 1980s who were defined as the Barolo Boys.

My visit to ’A Vita winery Almost two years ago, a dear friend of mine from Lamezia Terme brought me to meet some friends of hers in Strongoli, a part of Calabria where I had never been before. Apart from Francesco De Franco, I was presented to Piero Romano (the owner of Fattoria San Sebastiano), Martino Barretta (a pivotal person in Gal Kroton), and Gianfranco Blandino. During the 2-3 days in Strongoli, I think I nagged all of them incessantly, my friend included, whether it would be possible to visit the ’A Vita winery, of which I had already read a lot. The last day we were in Strongoli, they took me to meet Francesco and his wife, Laura, in their winery. The feeling was a bit the same as entering the ’workshop’ winery of Sergio Arcuri, as ’A Vita’s so-called ’workshop’ is also small and every angle is

used in an optimal manner. Francesco showed us around and talked about his production. We then had the opportunity to taste two of his Rosso Classico wines, still not ready, and another, the 2014 that still had to do the malolactic fermentation. Francesco and Laura produce a Calabria IGP Rosato, a Ciró Rosso Classico, a Ciró DOC Rosso Classico Superiore, and a Ciró DOC Rosso Classico Superiore Riserva. The Ciró DOC Rosso Classico Superiore is a mineral and slightly sapid wine, with elegant notes of flowers and red fruit. The tannins are present but with an elegant touch. Erik Asimov also described hints of hazelnut and rose in the Cirò Doc Superiore wine. Just a few weeks ago, at Vinitaly in Verona, I tasted ’A Vita’s wines again and liked them just as much as two years ago. Fattoria San Sebastiano

with my friend. The first stop there was in the late afternoon at his restaurant, where we chatted while waiting for other people to drop in. At a certain point, he asked us if we wanted a light snack. This snack in the end turned into a whole dinner with lots of typical dishes for this area and they were paired with wine from local producers. The following evening, we enjoyed a dinner with different fish courses that was even more elaborate and tasty. This is just a small example of his generosity and kindness, as well as all the other people I met there. Also last year when I visited that part of Calabria, we went to Piero’s agritourism and enjoyed a very nice evening with lots of delicious food with a pugliese theme accompanied to a musical group from Puglia playing traditional music.

A bit of background… Piero Romano belongs to a family that started out as a mail coach business in the early 20th century, which then over time has developed to the Page 118 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

largest private bus and coach company in Calabria, namely Gruppo Romano (consisting of

F.lli Romano S.p.A. and Romano Autolinee S.p.A.). Returning to talk about the farm estate, it dates back to the mid18th century and since then it has changed owners a couple of times before being bought by the Romano family in the early 20th century. Cereals, oil, and wine were produced here for most of the 20th century, turning the farm into a key place in the local economy. Since the 1990s, Piero Romano has been managing the farm estate where he has also turned the old farmhouse into an agritourism. Here, he and his wife Nadia together manages he restaurant all year round. It is a lovely place with a

tview of the countryside from the terrace and in the summer, it offers a cool breeze from the oftenpressing heat. They also have a separate hall being both a sort of agricultural museum with, for example, an olive press from the 1920s, and functioning also as a conference space.

The olive oil production They produce olive oil, as mentioned, since around 100 years back and for 20 years they have also been certified for organic and biodynamic farming. Their olive tree grove comprises of 86 acres where around 60% of the olive trees are more than a hundred years old. Tonda di Strongoli, Carolea, Nocellara del Belice, Nocellara Etnea, Biancolilla, Leccino, Frantoio, and Coratina are different cultivars growing in their grove. Their three main Extra Vergine Olive Oils are Monocultivar ( with olives handpicked from the Tonda di Strongoli cultivar), Blend, and Tre Cime. In addition to these, they also produce a series of aromatized olive oils where the Tre Cime is used as the base olive oil.

Some of the people I have talked about in these articles, such as ´A Vita, Birrificio Blandino, and Piero Romano are an integral part of the Gal network. The president of the Gal Kroton is Natale Carvello, however Martino Barretta is the person I got to know two years ago together with the others and who seems to be a key figure in the daily work of Gal Kroton. Martino brought us to other different local realities supported by the Gal Kroton, such as the small towns of Caccuri, with its fairly new nature area, Serra Grande, and Santa Severina with its beautiful castle that can be traced back to a prehistorical era. The work of the Gal Kroton is dynamic and important for the development of the local area, which is quite isolated at times from other parts of the country. If you will be in this part of Calabria and want to visit any of these local activities, you can either write to me or contact them directly. When I go there, I have often stayed in the vacation flats offered by PR Immobiliare. This part of Calabria and the beaches are very beautiful and still quite “untouched”, so it is definitely worth a visit if you have the occasion to do so. English revision by Susie Holman.

translator. My interest in wine has been running as a connective thought all through these years, leading me to become a sommelier.

My Wine Story

From Sweden to Chianti From a small town in southern Sweden to the heart of Chianti and Florence in Italy, my journey started in Ystad, which used to be known as a smugglers nest during the Hanseatic Era, while today it is the place where the police inspector Wallander solves crimes. It is an idyllic small town by the seaside. My journey thus started in Sweden, bringing me to Florence a bit more than 15 years ago to do a Ph.D in history at the research institute of the European Union. After receiving my Ph.D. and teaching Modern History at the university for a couple of years, I decided to stay in Florence, changing my career path by using my second degree in languages and becoming a freelance Page 121 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

My interest in wine has always been there throughout my years in Italy, however it was only roughly 5 years ago that I decided to try out a sommelier course. I had seen an advertisement on Facebook about the local Fisar course in the center of Florence, and I thought it sounded very exciting. (Fisar is one of the Italian sommelier associations and they organize courses where you get accredited as a sommelier.) Therefore, I convinced a friend to come with me, even though she actually didn’t drink much and still does not. This turned out to be one of the best ideas I have had in recent years, as it brought us to discover a new and fascinating world of oenology, wine history, wine tastings, and much more. It all lead us to continue the course, attending all three levels in one sweep. For about three years now, I have been a sommelier and it is a genuinely fulfilling passion where you learn something new and meet interesting people in the Italian wine world almost every day.Fresh as a sommelier, I started elaborating my idea about combining wine and translation. Together with some fellow sommeliers from Fisar and a British translator colleague, we developed the concept Words & Wine. This one-day seminar on wine terminology in Italian and English was held in Florence nearly 3 years ago. I continued to develop this wine and terminology concept to better fit a translator-

dominated audience together with a couple of translator colleagues, changing the course name to Words at the Winery. The first of these seminars was held at the wine estate Il Borro (near Arezzo) in June 2014. In the autumn of 2014, we organized another Words at the Winery seminar at the winery Feudi di San Gregorio, near Avellino. During last year, I held smaller informal mini-courses about wine in Tuscany and a wine tasting every now and then together with my fellow sommelier, Nadia Padrin, and for Fisar Firenze. At the moment, I am working on putting together a new seminar on wine terminology in English for translators and people in the wine and tourism sector.

By Cheryl Hughley

What Bro My name is Cheryl Hughley and I live in Bakersfield, Ca. Recently I was introduced and started using Purium products and have had life changing results. To better understand why I am so excited , let me tell you about the many health challenges I have endured. I haven't always made the best choices in my life concerning my health. As a young adult, I worked in fast food industry for 10 years and consumed “fast foods” on a daily basis; not a good choice. I also became an emotional eater due to all the turmoil and strife in my life. I didn't realize at the time how it would affect my health. Here's how it started: My mother and other family members were diagnosed with Lupus. I decided that it was important for me to be take the Lupus tests as well. My Lupus test came back positive. In 2004 with the stresses of life, work and food; I had my first bout with Lupus. My physician personally called me at my home because of the severity of my health.

That was the first time in my life I had a Physician ask if he could pray over my life. I

have more blood transfusions and another tumor removed. My body went through so much trauma I couldn't walk, bathe or even feed myself because my body was so swollen. I was diagnosed with Hemolytic Anemia to add to the my long list of medical problems. When I was discharged from the hospital, I was sent home with about 25 pills to take daily and was scheduled to start Chemotherapy once again. As I began my treatment my body rejected the Chemo and I returned to the hospital. I then had to endure an I.V. In my arm for about three months which limited my life's activities. I couldn't go outside because the sun burned my skin that left blisters all over my body. The damage to my body both physically and emotionally has been tremendous. I never stop believing that I could be healthy; I just did not have a plan. In 2008. I met Coralean Chavis. From the first day we met, Coralean encouraged me to take better care of myself and to make better food choices. Coralean shared several products with me and the products seem to help. I was not consistent with the programs and quickly reverted back

to old eating habits (the root of the my health challenges). I believe Coralean first told me about Purium after she completed her 10 day Body Transformation in December 2014. She sent me her website and ask me to review the program. I DID NOT! I really didn't see much of Coralean in 2015 until May. She ask me if I would help her with a project and that it would take a couple of days. Already knowing that Coralean would have something to say about my weight, I knocked on her door and she did not disappoint me. That evening we went out and enjoyed dinner. The next morning; my life changed. Coralean announced we were going to do the 10 Day Transformation and I had my first green drink. For the next ten days all I had to do was OPEN my mouth. 10 days later, I lost 21 pounds. The same week I had a previously scheduled doctors' appointment. After my exam, because my A1C levels were lower; the Doctor decided that I no longer need to take insulin. He also made the determination that the high blood pressure medication was no longer needed. I was overcome with emotion and the first person I called was Coralean. I was excited about the weight loss; however, getting off the Meds gave me the motivation to continue with the Purium 20 Day Continuation program. Two weeks later, I had an appointment with my Rheumatologist. After that exam, my Doctor decided to take me off my Lupus medication. Shortly thereafter, I had an appointment with my Primary Care Physician. She was impressed with the weight loss (40 lbs), the condition of my skin and feet. She said “Whatever you're doing;keep doing it.” I shared a brochure and Coralean's website with her.

Page 136 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

After this life changing experience, I KNEW that my testimony could help so many and Yes, I became a Purium retailer. Everyday and Everywhere I go I share this amazing Product. I'm excited about the financial opportunity; however, my goal is to touch as many as I can that suffer with autoimmune health challenges.

Purium is changing my life and I am forever grateful! Click Here

About

mama.codes company information mama.codes is a an EdTech startup founded by three London mothers on a mission to promote digital literacy in children. We are passionate about getting kids creating with technology rather than mindlessly consuming it. We also strongly believe that young children learn through doing and discovering. mama.codes provides learn -to-code resources for home and school, based on how young children actually learn. Rich in songs, rhymes & storytelling our pro-

jects give children the skills to explore their own world, express their ideas & make stuff in code, helping them program everything

from snail races to Shakespeare.

Page 140 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

It’s what we call creative coding. See mama.codes (www.mama.codes) for resources for families and educators.

Case Study Teaching our children to code is a white hot issue. Almost half a million tech jobs lie unfilled in the US today and this number is set to double by 2020.

Subscription link www.female-

Case Study

It’s not surprising then, that nine out of ten US parents want Computer Science taught in their child’s school. However, hands-on programming is only taught in one quarter of K-12 schools. Even in the UK, where coding has been on the national curriculum from age 5+ since 2014, there is still a distinct knowledge and confidence gap amongst parents and many teachers. Diversity remains a persistent challenge too, with women holding only 30% of jobs across 11 of the world’s largest tech companies in 2014, and girls making up only 22% of the students who took the Advanced Placement Computer Science exam last year in the US.

Page 141 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

So how can we encourage and support our kids – particularly our daughters - to take up coding, and what is the best age to start? I found myself asking these questions last year, when my daughter was 6 and her switched on grandmother asked if she was coding yet. I had worked in digital industries for 15 years alongside dozens of programmers, and was clear that coding was an essential life and career skill. Just as I was keen that she learn Math as a life skill, without imagining she would become a mathematician, I was keen that she learn the principles of coding and computational thinking in an increasingly tech-driven world. That said, I wasn’t all that clear about getting started... Subscription link www.female-exec.com/s.html

I looked around for fun and engaging apps and games to inspire a really creative girl who wasn’t that into Math at the time AND to provide sustained learning. I struggled! So I knocked heads together with two other moms in digital and we came up with mama.codes (www.mama.codes) – a family-friendly online code club offering step by step projects that parents and kids aged 3-8 could make at home on their tablets. We believe coding is fundamentally a language skill, and should be taught from a young age. More than parents realize, young children are hard-wired to absorb language patterns – including coding languages. And more than they realise, parents are ideally placed to support their child’s digital literacy, alongside their speech, reading and writing. Rather than re-invent the wheel, we chose to provide step by step guides to creating projects using an excellent free coding app called ScratchJr (http://www.scratchjr.org/). Page 142 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

It was created by the Lifelong Kindergarten research group at the MIT Media Lab, the Developmental Technologies research group at Tufts University, and the Playful Invention Company and is free to download on iPads, recent Android tablets of at least 7 inches and Chromebooks.

We studied how young children develop speech through the repetition of word patterns in songs and rhymes and sought to mimic this in our coding projects, including

game, and even The Wheels on the Bus song when he started at just 3 years old.

At our workshops at schools and with families, it’s been a joy to see children’s eyes light up when they realise the creative power of coding and the instant reward of making things happen just as they want them. We have also seen first hand how coding has supported their math and literacy with its focus on logical and sequential thinking. In just five months, we already have some tech stars in the making!

plenty of raucous songs and rhymes for beginners of all ages. One surprising thing we learned was that children don’t need to be able to read to be able to code. My 5 year old son is now more fluent in coding than writing. He can express himself and tell his own stories far more easily via a touchscreen than a sharpened pencil. He has enjoyed coding his own complicated Star Wars story, a Dinosaur top trumps Page 143 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

I spoke to one of them, Matilda Passmore, aged 8 from London, and her mother Louisa, about how they both used mama.codes to build their coding confidence. “I’d like my three girls to have the opportunity to take whichever course they want at college and pursue whichever career. I don’t want them to be limited because they didn’t have the right building blocks as children,” explains Louisa. She disovered mama.codes at a local parents’ workshop and was impressed by how Matilda ran with it, largely without help.

“Once the mum can do the basics, the kids can get up and running with minimal instruction. Matilda will just take the laptop and watch the mama.codes project on that, and code on the tablet with minmal help from me.” “Matilda has two younger sisters and they are getting inspired and learning from her. They are starting to help out on her projects. It’s a natural way to get younger siblings involved,” adds Louisa. What has Matilda enjoyed most? “She’s really enjoyed the singing and the interactive elements – the fact you can put your own voice into it. of God is everlasting. Love and oneness never ends. This is our happily ever after. This is our once upon a time in the fable of all fables, that goes on and on, as the vibration of quantum energy called love. This is your truth. Never let go of your heart in any situation in life. Let your heart be your safety net. Let it be that hand that nudges or squeezes you every time you forget that you are pure consciousness. The love of a mother for her child is eminent. Some of the greatest love that any one human being encounters toward another, is that of a mother’s love for her child. And yet, it is dwarfed compare to the love of God. It is unsurpassable. Let it enter. In the end, this is all that will matter. Wishing you all the love and light in this very moment, because this moment is all there ever is. As always, I welcome you to contact me for ongoing support in helping you bridge the gap between where you are today, and where the purpose in your life awaits. http://ueslifecoach.com Love and Light, Lily Sanders

The Rebellious Life of Mrs. Rosa Parks

The definitive political biography of Rosa Parks examines her six decades of activism, challenging perceptions of her as an accidental actor in the civil rights movement Presenting a corrective to the popular notion of Rosa Parks as the quiet seamstress who, with a single act, birthed the modern civil rights movement, Theoharis provides a revealing window into Parks’s politics and years of activism. She shows readers how this civil rights movement radical sought—for more than a half a century—to expose and eradicate the American racial-caste system in jobs, schools, public services, and criminal justice.

Subscription link www.female-

Editorial Review The national narrative on Parks is that of a reluctant champion of civil rights whose single action was refusing to move to the back of the bus in Montgomery, Alabama, in 1955. Historian Theoharis offers a complex portrait of a forceful, determined woman who had long been active before the boycott she inspired and who had an even longer career in civil rights afterward. The image of a quiet seamstress who undermined Jim Crow minimizes Parks’ stature as an activist and obscures continued injustice and inequality, Theoharis argues. Drawing on a decade of research, the Page 173 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

historian chronicles Parks’ personal journey to resistance, her work in the South challenging segregation and promoting voter registration, and her continued efforts in Detroit to address racial restrictions that had ostensibly been resolved by civil rights legislation. Theoharis details the cost of the bus boycott to Parks and her family, including decades of death threats; her strong admiration for radical black activists; and the controversies that continue to surround the disposition of her archival material as factions fight to claim rights to her iconic image. --Vanessa Bush

Angel believes we should never stop educating ourselves. For her first leg of education at the beginning of college she chose psychology once she had satisfied that education she pursued business and law. Currently she is in pursuit of a marketing education when that education is satisfied she is sure she will find a new education interest to pursue.

of

Angel Toussant I first met Angel through my Riverside nafe director Joan E. Wakeland and was very impressed as to what a dynamic women she is. She also recently joined our Riverside nafe network. I also had the opportunity to hear her speak at several locations and she is amazing. I asked her to speak for some upcoming nafe meetings, which are in Menifee, Murrieta and Temecula and I am looking forward to those presentations. Angel Toussant was born and raised in Anchorage, Alaska and at age 37 moved from Anchorage to Northern California. She remained in Northern California until April, 2016 at which time she found her new home in Murrieta,California. She said “my proudest life accomplishment is raising two phenomenal daughters. I love to say I can die a happy person if I accomplish nothing else in life because of the relationship I have with my girls. I am confident my relationship with my daughters is well above average and I am confident they feel the same way, despite the many parenting mistakes I made along the way”. Her career choices are as varied as her education choices She has held positions from teachers aid to police officer and many careers in between. Currently, she is providing monitoring services for parents who are required by the courts to have supervised visits. She has written and published two journal books. The first was for recovering addicts (out of print) and the second one is for goal‑setting. She is currently writing a personal growth book which she plans to publish by year end.
