We are proud to announce that Deborah Fitzpatrick ( Reach Out Project Manager) has been awarded The British Citizen Award at a glamourous ceremony in the House of Lords at the Palace of Westminster.. The BCA medals are awarded to just 28 people a year ‘in recognition of their exceptional positive impact on society and as an inspiration to others’. Anyone who has worked with Deborah at Mycenae House knows how special she is and what great work she does. The work in partnership with Jennifer (Community Librarian at John Roan School) in developing intergenerational partnerships between senior citizens and young people from the school has now been recognised at the highest level. Nominated by Bernadette Williams & William Bruce, a big Reach Out supporter.
As a parent, deciding which extracurricular activities to invest time and money in can be daunting. Why should you choose dance? Dance has long been recognised as a benefit, not just to health and fitness but also, emotional development, socialization, creativity and cognitive development.
Physical health Dancing is a great form of exercise, and a love of dance from an early age can help motivate kids to stay active as they grow into adults.
Emotional Development When your child experiences the joy of dancing, he or she learns about expressing themselves in a way that’s beneficial to their physical and mental health.
Socialization Dance is a highly social activity. In a dance class, children learn how to work as part of a team, develop a greater sense of trust and cooperation, and make new friends.
Encourages Creativity No matter the style, dance encourages children to be more creative and to express themselves in many ways. By encouraging creativity and imagination, children learn to build trust, effective relationships, and how to think critically.
Cognitive Development Attending dance classes allows children to learn self-discipline and time management. As they get older, dancer must learn how to balance school, dance, extracurricular activities, and their social life.
