In pochi sanno che i tessuti in lana Merino sono in assoluto fra i più tecnici disponibili sul mercato.

Grande traspirabilità ed elevata capacità di isolamento termico sono solo alcune delle intrinseche caratteristiche di questa particolare fibra, più sottile e ondulata di quella delle altre lane. Durante attività aerobiche molto impegnative essa è in grado di assorbire gran parte del vapore corporeo di chi indossa questi capi e dunque di abbassarne sensibilmente l’umidità.

Inoltre la fibra di Merino, altamente deformabile, anche se tirata, piegata e attorcigliata torna sempre allo stato originale. La sua evoluzione dura da un milione di anni e le ha permesso di trasformarsi in un materiale ideale per la confezione di capi altamente performanti.

Abiti adatti anche a condizioni d’utilizzo estreme, che in genere vengono purtroppo prodotti con materiali tecnici ricavati dal petrolio e dal cotone. La sintesi di Nylon e Poliestere richiede infatti grandi quantità di energia e acqua mentre la coltivazione del cotone impiega il 25% dei pesticidi prodotti globalmente. La lana, completamente biodegradabile, viene prodotta invece con un bassissimo impatto ambientale.

Few people know that Merino wool definitely provides one of the most technically valid fabrics that the market offers.

A great insulating and transpiring potential is among the most important features of the Merino wool fibre, which is thinner and more wavelike than that of other kinds of wool. During fatiguing aerobic exercises garments made out of this fabric can absorb most of the perspiration from the body and can therefore lower its humidity rate considerably. Furthermore, the Merino fibre is so supple that it always regains its original condition after undergoing stretching, bending or twisting. A million-year long evolution has enabled the fibre to become an ideal material for the production of highly performing garments.

Clothes that are suitable for wear in the most unfavourable weather conditions, are currently often made out of materials derived from oil or from cotton. If the synthesis of nylon and polyester requires great quantities of energy and water, cotton crops involve the employment of 25% of the global production of pesticides; wool, instead, is completely biodegradable, and its production has very little impact on the environment.

Inizialmente pensato come uno spazio da adibire alla vendita abbinata di libri, riviste lifestyle e calzature, l’ultimo nato in casa Alta Moda, mescola armonicamente stili e contenuti diversi; già dalla vetrina esterna le sneaker catturano il centro della scena, lasciando solo intravedere il grandissimo divano in stile Chesterfielfd (ben sei metri e mezzo) disposto lungo tutta la parete. All’insegna di un gusto sofisticato e moderno al tempo stesso, questo negozio promette di diventare presto uno dei maggori punti di riferimento italiani per gli appassionati di queste calzature e tutti gli amanti di un look ricercato e sempre aggiornato.

The shop, now at its first birthday, stemmed from a branch of renowned Modena-based Spoon and is entirely devoted to sneakers, with the exception of American Apparel clothing. Planned from the outset as a space for the combined sale of books, lifestyle magazines and footwear, Alta Moda’s latest-born shop displays a harmonious mix of styles and different trends, with sneakers in the foreground of the outside window and a very large Chesterfield-style sofa (six and a half metres) hardly visible along the wall in the background. At once sophisticated and modern in taste, the shop will soon become one of the major Italian benchmarks for lovers of this footwear, fond of a sophisticated and ever updated look.

Lo stesso creatore del logo Play ha concepito l’intera linea come una collezione di elementi basici, invariabili e atemporali, secondo il concetto di non-design, perché il prototipo fosse lo stile. Bitter orange, black pepper, lime, saffron, thyme, sage, sea nuances, oak, patchouli and musk: Comme des Garçons’ perfume Play is a rectangular bottle in an anonymous white cardboard square box. It is the lack of design that creates the distinctive individuality of Play, presented at mid-May Playbird in Dover Street Market and in CDG shops, and sold on that occasion only in combination with the T-shirts designed by Filip Pagowski.

The very creator of the Play logo has conceived the whole line as a collection of basic, invariable and timeless elements in accordance with a non-design concept, so as to make the prototype coincide with style. The perfume will be available from next July at all shops selling Comme des Garçons Parfums.

Le due designer svedesi Anna Holmquist e Chandra Ahlsell hanno presentato al Salone del Mobile di Milano un nuovo prodotto che mescola degli elementi organici alle fibre del legno.

La creatività umana cattura l’armonia dell’ambiente che ci circonda e piccoli dettagli, durante la compressione, impreziosiscono le superifici della masonite: una farfalla, un petalo di fiore, una foglia diventano decorazioni dei pezzi che compongono questo arredamento unico.

At Milan Salone del Mobile the two Swedish designers Anna Holmquist and Chandra Ahlsell have presented their latest production, a combination of organic elements and wood fibres. Human creativity captures the harmony of the surrounding environment, and through the compression process the surface of masonite is made precious with small inclusions: a butterfly, a flower petal, a leaf become decorations on the pieces that make up this unique furniture.

Ovvero quelle realtà leader, a livello mondiale, nell’industria tessile e nella produzione dell’accessorio per la confezione. I settori produttivi che saranno coinvolti dalla manifestazione sono appunto quello del Cotone e del Denim, della Lana, della Pelle, delle Nobilitazioni e degli Accessori per la Confezione. Parlour è un appuntamento che si rivolge ad un pubblicato specializzato di addetti ai lavori quali compratori, designer, creativi, consulenti e produttori di abbigliamento e moda ma anche giornalisti ed editori, nonché studiosi, ricercatori di tendenze, cool hunter e studenti delle facoltà universitarie legate al settore Moda e del Design. On 5 and 6 November the first edition of Parlour will be staged on the premises of the Lido Casino, Venice, an exhibition devoted to excellence in fashion and related products, that is to leading world protagonists in the field of textiles and in the production of clothing accessories. The sectors of production involved in the event are cotton and denim, wool, leather, material and product upgrading, and clothing accessories.

Parlour is an initiative devoted to a select public of fashion pundits such as buyers, designers, creators, consultants, clothing and fashion firms, but also journalists, publishers, scholars, trend and cool hunters, and students from university departments concerned with fashion and design. Transport facilities will connect the Casino Palace with the city of Venice, the prestigious frame for a number of linked events and art exhibitions promoted by Parlour.

Sono molti i settori produttivi investiti, in tempi diversi, dal concetto di “back to basic” e svariate sono le intepretazioni che sia il mondo della moda che quello del design ne hanno dato. La telefonia mobile, nella fattispecie, è sembrata invece correre nella direzione opposta fino a quando non ha sbattuto il grugno su Motofone. In risposta a fotocamere, mp3 player, bluetooth, wireless, sistemi operativi sempre più avanzati finalmente un telefono che torna a fare il telefono.

Ovvero l’investimento coraggioso di Motorola su un modello dedicato a chi il telefono lo usa solo per telefonare, inviare sms e al massimo ricordarsi di qualche appuntamento. Display ad altissima luminosità, in grado di essere letto anche sotto il sole, menù semplice, resistenza agli urti e peso sotto i 70 gr ma soprattutto batteria a lunga durata, il tutto in 9 mm di spessore. La dimostrazione che si può tornare allo scopo primario del cellulare senza rinunciare allo stile.

Over the years many sectors of production have been concerned with the ‘back to basic’ concept, and both the world of fashion and design have provided different interpretations of it. As to mobile telephony, it kept going the opposite direction until it bumped into Motofone. As an answer to cameras, mp3 players, bluetooth, wireless and more and more sophisticated operation systems, a phone which has recovered its traditional function is at last available.

Motorola have courageously invested on a model devoted to people who use the phone just to make calls, to send messages or, at most, to be reminded of their appointments. Its main credentials are: a super bright display readable even in sunlight, a user-friendly menu, shock resistance, a weight below 70 grams, a long lasting battery and an overall thickness of 9 mm.

Forty years after it was first created, this Tretorn jewel is back on the market.

Il capo che racchiude l’essenza di Redux è il 5 tasche nero tinto vegetale, eccellente reinterpretazione del tradizionale pantalone da lavoro, curato nelle ricche finiture e segno di un nuovo gusto classico e moderno al tempo stesso. Concepito e realizzato in Italia e distribuito solo negli showroom di New York, Parigi e Milano, Redux è naturale al 100%, anche nei lavaggi, grazie all’utilizzo di elementi quali legno, marmellata, carbone, terra e acqua.

Gli studi e le ricerche portate avanti in collaborazione con la lavanderia Martelli, hanno inoltre reso possibile lo Yogurt Wash, un lavaggio a mano che tratta il denim come una tela dipinta da Pollock e rende ciascun capo unico e inimitabile.

Dario Marangon, brand designer di Meltin’Pot, fa esordire Redux con un’edizione volutamente limitata, solo per uomo, che rappresenta un omaggio ad una ricercatezza d'altri tempi dal fascino contemporaneo.

Meltin’Pot quest’anno presenta Redux, un progetto speciale per un denim organico interamente reinventato.

Ispirata all’ideale estetico del Bauhaus, questa linea assorbe gli elementi stilistici più innovativi del movimento e ne nobilita lo spirito di ricerca con una architettura pulita del capo e un’inedita cura del design. L’ambientazione anni ‘30 rivive nelle forme che interpretano il working wear cui Redux si rifà.

“Tailor-Work” è il termine utilizzato per descrivere questo nuovo e originale connubio tra abbigliamento da lavoro e linee sartoriali: elegante e moderno, con cuciture a tono e caratteristiche impunture “tre aghi”.

La prima collezione è composta da una salopette, una giacca in panno di lana, un chino-work e un gilet, tutti contraddistinti dalla sofisticata etichetta in tela ricamata e da raffinati richiami di stile.

Un denim così elegante e ben costruito non si era mai visto.

Se l’obiettivo era raggiungere la pulizia formale tramite la perfezione esecutiva, toccando e indossando questi capi possiamo dire che Meltin’Pot abbia raggiunto la quadratura del cerchio: e di fatto il quadrato è già il segno distintivo di questa nuova linea.

Meltin’ Pot are this year presenting Redux, a special line of absolutely innovative organic denim.

The line draws its inspiration from the aesthetic ideals of the Bauhaus, and, pervaded by the most innovative stylistic features of the movement, it enhances its drive for research through the neat construction of items and great care in design.

The flavour of the ’30s can be recaptured in forms that interpret the working wear from which Redux draws its inspiration. ‘Tailor-Work’ is the word used to describe this new and original combination of work wear and sartorial style, an elegant and modern product, with matching seams and typical contrasting three-needle stitching. The first collection consists of a salopette, a woollen cloth jacket, a chino-work and a waistcoat, all of which are supplied with the sophisticated label in embroidered cloth and show refined style references.

Such an elegant and finely tailored denim is definitely unprecedented.

If Meltin’ Pot’s target was to achieve formal neatness through tailoring perfection, when we touch and wear their items we feel that they have succeeded in squaring the circle; a square, in fact, is the distinctive mark of the line.

The vegetable black dyed five-pocket denim embodies the essence of Redux and provides an excellent new interpretation of the traditional work trousers, with the addition of rich finishing details, a creation that stands for a new taste at once classic and modern. Designed and realised in Italy, Redux is distributed only in New York, Paris and Milan showrooms; made of 100% natural materials, it also undergoes natural washing with elements like wood, jam, coal, earth and water. Studies and research carried out in collaboration with Martelli Lavorazioni Tessili have led to the Yogurt Wash; during the treatment denim is handled as if it were a canvas painted by Pollock and each item takes on a unique inimitable look.

Dario Marangon, Meltin’ Pot’s brand designer, deliberately saw to it that Redux made its debut only with a men’s limited edition, to pay homage to bygone refined elegance coupled with present-day allure.

The Library is located on trendy Brompton Road, just a few minutes from the glitz and glamour of Knightsbridge. Sitting in Bibendum, across the road from The Library, owner Peter Sidell tells me over a coffee “I was born in Kensington, just around the corner, and I remember, when we opened, almost 15 years ago the area was not this posh."

Sidell started working as a buyer for Jones (a really popular store in the 80’s) when he was only 17. Whilst there, he brought to London brands such as Stone Island, Ralph Lauren and Helmut Lang. After the experience gained at Jones he started designing the menswear line for Joseph. In the past he even taught with Bikkembergs, as Professor at London Royal College of Art, and lectured Berardi and Stella McCartney at Central St Martins, London. “I wanted to have a store with things that I liked.

I had a major book collection I wanted to display and make available to people.

The Library si trova in Brompton Road, a pochi minuti dal fascino e dalle attrazioni di Knightsbridge. Mentre prendiamo un caffè al Bibendum di fronte al suo negozio, il proprietario Peter Sidell mi racconta: ”Sono nato a Kensington, qui dietro, appena svoltato l’angolo, e ricordo che quasi quindici anni fa, quando ho aperto il negozio, la zona non era così elegante”. The Library è articolato su due piani, ma l’elegante stile minimalista degli interni al piano terra contrasta con il piano inferiore che dà l’impressione di un salotto. A differenza di una vera biblioteca dove ci si aspetta silenzio assoluto, a The Library, malgrado i libri, la maggior parte dei quali sono in vendita, si sente un sottofondo musicale Indie Rock. Ci sono un sacco di libri esposti dovunque, sui sostegni per esporre gli abiti, negli armadi, sui tappeti e sui tavoli fino al piano inferiore, per un valore complessivo di oltre 70,000 sterline! “The Library consente di mescolare la letteratura di fantasia con i classici, la letteratura moderna con la poesia e la storia”, afferma Sidell che riesce a fare esattamente la stessa cosa con l’abbigliamento. The Library è un negozio di nicchia con una clientela numerosa e fedele che cerca proprio questo mix unico di prodotti di alta qualità. La cosa divertente, sostiene Sidell, è il fatto di esser circondati da grandi magazzini e negozi come Harrods, Chanel ecc.

In accordance with the spirit of an age that increasingly looks to the Far East, Hugo Boss provides an interpretation of the codes of the new cultural melting pots, and with Orange he realises a mix of ideas and creativity, the merging of English and Chinese culture.

Punk influences are eclectically combined with hints from the early ‘80s, on the borderline between Hong Kong metropolitan chaos and the quiet atmospheres of Chinese interiors.

Andrea Cannelloni, the creative director of Boss Orange, bases on the ‘easy going’ style his image of the metropolitan male freed from set roles and canons, while for women he proposes a neat, sophisticated look, original in its details and intriguing in its asymmetric cuts and jacquard decorations. The finishing touch is given by the use of gold, a colour that enfolds women in a night embrace, among finishing touches, accessories and effective prints.

Styles and materials are merged just as technological fabrics are combined with natural ones; the use of Scottish tartan characterises the oversized cut of the collection in pure Eighties style, enriched by vinyl and metal punk quotations.

Inspiration follows unprecedented new paths.

De-structured T-shirts are matched to sartorial jackets with prints reproducing oriental lettering and Chinese dragons, while black and white are enriched with pink, brown and blue shade variations, and the accurate cuts give the garments a slender fit and a versatile allure.

Il cardigan è una giacca in lana, scollata a “V” e abbottonata frontalmente all’altezza dell’addome. Simmetricamente disposte rispetto alla sua chiusura si trovano, in genere, due tasche orizzontali interne, entrambe tagliate “a filo”.

La versatilità di utilizzo di questo capo è indiscussa e ad essa il cardigan deve la sua fortuna e grande diffusione. Si racconta che James Thomas Brudenell, settimo Conte di Cardigan, durante la sua permanenza in Crimea, nel 1854, abbia letteralmente tagliato con un colpo di sciabola il pull-over d’ordinanza fornitogli dall’Esercito Britannico perché incapace di sopportare ulteriormente l’insolito caldo autunnale.

Un leggendario gesto che avrebbe dato origine a questa giacca. Lo stesso Brudenell, noto per aver guidato la cavalleria inglese nella Battaglia di Balaclava, durante i tre mesi trascorsi in Crimea aveva infatti incontrato una stagione particolarmente afosa e sofferto le forti escursioni termiche tipiche della Penisola.

A Concise History A cardigan is a V-necked woollen jacket with a front buttoning and a horizontal welt pocket on each side, symmetrical to the front fastening. Nel 1868, alla morte del Conte, che amava indossare questa giacca durante le permanenze nella tenuta estiva di Deene Park (nel Northamptonshire), il termine “Cardigan” farà ufficialmente il suo ingresso nell’abbigliamento maschile.

Nonostante avesse assunto i suoi elementi caratteristici già alla fine del Diciannovesimo Secolo il Cardigan troverà maggiore diffusione solamente dopo il debutto, negli Anni ’20, nel mondo della Moda e dell’Abbigliamento Femminile.

Alle più classiche versioni a manica lunga, dotate di tasche, verrà presto affiancato anche un modello di Cardigan senza maniche, da subito popolarissimo.

I vantaggi derivanti dalle sue caratteristiche sono molteplici: prima di tutto la possibilità di indossarlo abbottonato, e dunque chiuso, o aperto sul davanti ci permette di continuare ad utilizzare il Cardigan anche al variare della temperatura, nell’arco della giornata; secondariamente lo si può smettere senza doverlo sfilare dall’alto; infine, se dotato di tasche (anche se spesso molto piccole) esso ci permette di portare sempre con noi tutte quei piccoli accessori che non sappiamo mai dove mettere.

In alcuni Paesi del Sud America ed in particolare in Cile il Cardigan è stato per anni comunemente chiamato “Chaqueta Rebequa” in onore di Joan Fontaine, interprete di “Rebecca, la Prima Moglie” di A. Hitchcock, film durante il quale l’attrice indossa questa giacca.

In some South American countries, Chile in particular, the Cardigan was for years commonly called “Chaqueta Rebequa”, in honour of Joan Fontaine who starred in “Rebecca, the First Wife” by Alfred Hitchcock, the film that showed the actress wearing this kind of jacket.

The model Davidson, with its palette of greys, combines a slim fit and classical overtones; the fivebutton fastening starts just below the breastbone and features a contrasting, upright dark grey neckline edging in plain stitch that matches the wristbands. The saddle shoulder in satin-like stitch shows an interesting detail: its upper part features a 1x1 ribbing. The two welt pockets of this cardigan ( in pure merino wool and Sea Island cotton, as tradition demands) match the colour of the sleeves.

The model Deep V in Peter Jensen’s women’s collection is a close-fitting cardigan without front pockets, rigorously plain-coloured except for the typical laurel crown embroidered in gold on the left.

The unmistakable Fred Perry logo is here proposed in a specially oversized version.

As the very name of the model suggests, the Vshaped neckline is particularly deep, to the extent that the fastening on the front has only four buttons in matching colour. The sleeves combine the features of set-in sleeves and hammer sleeves.

Ever since it was launched, the brand has owed its fame to the tennis player Fred Perry. The only Englishman who won the prestigious Wimbledon tournament from 1934 to 1936, the player was also famous for his charm and elegance. After launching an innovative sweat-band bearing his name in print, Fred Perry gained renown for his polo-shirts with the famous laurel crown embroidery, historically associated with the English prestigious tennis tournament. As tennis champions made this sport more and more popular, it increasingly came to stand for life in the open air and leisure, and cardigans (both sleeved and sleeveless) began to be worn over the renowned shirts.

Questo modello dell’attuale collezione in 100% lana Super Geelong presenta tutte le caratteristiche degli storici cardigan Drumohr: a partire da una vestibilità elegante e piuttosto morbida. The cardigans from the current Autumn-Winter collection we propose are both in 100 % cashmere with very high yarn count. The men’s model has an irregular colouring realised by airbrushing, an effect obtained through nebulized colour that gives the item a unique look. The contrasting colours of the inside and outside of the garment enhance its details, from the seams, to the ribbed wristbands and edging. The women’s cardigan features details that renew its look completely, and is characterised by an elegant coulisse that makes it adhere to the waist; the long sleeves folded over to the elbow are slightly rippled along the outer seam.

These models, drawn from the historical archive of Cividini collections, provide two typical examples of the brand’s textile research. The twocolour cardigan (P/E 1998) was realised through tubular weaving. The inner lining is in soft silk, whereas the outside, that looks deliberately crumpled, is characterised by the presence of steel, an unusual material in clothing, or rather a very thin stainless steel thread twisted with a silk one.

The elegant model in shiny black cashmere dating from the AutumnWinter 1995-6 collection combines the brilliancy of the fabric, obtained through outside polish treatment, with an original shawl collar.

Questi modelli tratti dall’archivio storico delle collezioni Cividini costituiscono due esempi della sperimentazione tessile caratteristica del marchio. Il cardigan bicolor (P/E 1998) è stato realizzato con la tecnica della tessitura tubica. Lo strato interno è in morbida seta mentre l’esterno, dall’aspetto volutamente stropicciato, è caratterizzato dalla presenza di un materiale inusuale per l’abbigliamento, l’acciaio: un filo sottolissimo di inox ritorto con un filo di seta. L’elegante modello in cashmere nero laminato dell’A/I 1995-6 coniuga invece la brillantezza del tessuto, esternamente “spalmato”, con un particolare collo a scialle.

I cardigan dell’attuale collezione Autunno-Inverno, qui proposti, sono entrambi in 100% cashmere dal titolo sottilissimo.

Il modello uomo presenta una colorazione realizzata con la tecnica dell’aerografo, dunque non uniforme: un effetto ottenuto tramite la nebulizzazione del colore che conferisce al capo un aspetto unico. Il contrasto cromatico interno-esterno accentua i dettagli della sua confezione, dalle cuciture ai polsini e al bordo realizzati a coste. Il cardigan donna invece, dall’estetica rinnovata a partire proprio dai particolari caratteristici del capo, si stringe intorno alla vita grazie a un’elegante coulisse; le maniche, rimboccate fino al gomito, si increspano lievemente lungo la cucitura esterna.

Cividini looked to a cultured, sophisticated public when at the end of the ‘80s he decided to launch a new line that was to change the fashion market radically: technically first-rate cashmere knitwear, introducing significant innovations in design, experimental features and the choice of fabrics. In particular, it was by reviving traditional techniques ( that of tubular weaving, for example) in combination with the use of unconventional clothing materials that the brand became outstanding. Since 1995 Cividini has enriched its production with ready-to-wear lines, and brought to the fore its refined, high quality fashion.

Un pubblico colto e sofisticato è quello a cui guarda Cividini quando alla fine degli anni ’80 decide di lanciare una nuova idea che rivoluzionerà il mercato della moda: una maglieria in cashmere di altissimo valore tecnico, stilisticamente innovativa per la scelta dei tessuti, la sperimentalità delle lavorazioni e il design. Emilio Pian has been experimenting on materials for years, a research that has involved the use of aluminium, iron, lead and brass. Although not rooted in tradition, such materials have proved congenial to the sensibility of this contemporary artist who has used them in combination with others from the world of industry. In Marcello Carriero’s words: “the certainties of industry are undergoing a deep crisis”. Materials that normally recall serial production and standardised use, in Pian’s works take on a personal dimension based on his individual perception and interpretation. Art somehow acquires a new inner dimension. The formal system of works is simplified to bring about the deepening but also the unravelling of their inmost texture. The artist’s creations express his states of mind, emotions and reflections, just as the workings of his thought and conscience are transferred to matter. The artist then shifts back to painting, either with pictures that show his superb planning abilities, or with works on whose white surface signs and brush strokes stand out, while matter insertions create an interplay of void and solid. Lastly, the new sculptures in which the artist’s research on matter is fully visible.

Like modern cathedrals pervaded by a sort of (lay) sacredness, the vertical development of these creations conjures up the stateliness of medieval churches. Emilio Pian’s works will be on show at Spazio Lazzari, Treviso till the end of July.

Emilio Pian porta avanti da anni un confronto serrato e intimo con la materia. Nella sua ricerca utilizza l’alluminio, il ferro, il piombo e l’ottone. Materiali non tradizionali ma particolarmente attinenti alla sua sensibilità di artista contemporaneo con elementi mutuati dal mondo dell’industria.

Per usare un’espressione di Marcello Carriero: la certezza dell’industria è messa in crisi. Specchio di serialità e di utilizzo standard, quei materiali nell’opera di Pian assumono una dimensione personale e basata su una percezione individuale.

Una sorta di nuova interiorizzazione del fenomeno arte. Semplificare l’apparato formale delle opere per far sì che la trama interiore si infittisca e dipani.

Un esprimere, attraverso i suoi lavori, stati d’animo, emozioni e riflessioni. Trasporre sulla materia i moti del pensiero e della coscienza. Poi il ritorno alla pittura. Opere in cui dal fondo bianco emergono segni e pennellate, sempre però con l’inserimento della materia a ricreare il senso del vuoto e del pieno.

Oppure tramite i lavori dominati da una forte progettualità. Infine le nuove sculture, in cui si vede appieno la ricerca sulla materia. Una sorta di moderne cattedrali in cui è presente una sacralità (laica) che le pervade. Il loro sviluppo verticale evoca nello spettatore la maestosità degli edifici di culto medievali. Questi lavori sono esposti allo Spazio Lazzari di Treviso fino al termine di luglio.

During its ninety-year activity Tintoria Crespi has specialised in the treatment for third parties of cotton, linen and viscose clothing fabrics, and thread-dyed fabrics for shirt-making with a peak of 20 million linear metres of fabrics a year treated in the traditional Busto Arsizio location.

Born at the dawning of industrial textile chemistry, the firm has evolved under the guidance of various members of the Crespi family and now employs over 100 people. Established by Giovanni Crespi, the firm originally carried out only the dyeing of yarns; Mrs. Lucia Crespi later managed the firm for over 60 years, introduced top professional skills and achieved very high quality standards; her son, Giulio Ferrario, continued the family tradition which is currently being carried on by her nephew Michele Ferrario, the present owner of the Company, under whose guidance the firm has further increased its size and updated its machinery and equipment.

Fabric upgrading is one of the most important stages in textile production, as the direct mechanical and chemical handling of textiles it involves makes a relevant contribution to their final look. Tintoria G. Crespi has carried out this activity since 1919.

Generally speaking fabric upgrading is accomplished through 4 main phases.

Preliminary treatments consist in cleansing the fabric to make it fit for dyeing and printing: desizing, singeing, washing, purging, soda processing and gassing, bleaching, mercerizing and felting. Tintoria Crespi carries out dyeing through the ‘pad-bats procedure’, that is by using reactive dyes. Finishing has become increasingly important over the years, and consists in submitting fabrics both to mechanical and chemical processing to give them special features, to change their feel and look: sizing, brushing, teasing and sanforizing etc.

This accounts for the fact that Tintoria G. Crespi is today one of the most advanced firms in fabric upgrading, thanks also to newly devised finishing techniques.

The special care that the firm has devoted to fabric quality control and to customers’ demands have always characterised Crespi’s activity with a view to establishing a relationship of mutual collaboration. Their endless search for innovative finishing effects, the perfect combination of quality, skills and experience, as well as a constant urge for experiment have enabled Tintoria Crespi to become one of Europe’s and the world’s most interesting and dynamic firms in textile upgrading.

It is worth noting that the Crespi Family, well-known in Busto Arsizio as the Family of ‘ratini’ (little mice) because its members are so hard-working, have recently decided to adopt this little animal as a symbol of their firm.

La nobilitazione del tessuto è una delle fasi più importanti di tutta la filiera tessile: essa concorre, per azione meccanica e chimica, direttamente alla determinazione del prodotto tessile quale noi lo vediamo. La Tintoria G. Crespi esercita quest’attività dal 1919.

In linea generale le operazioni che appartengono alla nobilitazione del tessuto si possono classificare in quattro grandi momenti.

I cosiddetti trattamenti che precedono la tintura, in genere una successione di operazioni di purificazione della fibra tessile, allo scopo di conferirle l’attitudine ad essere tinta e stampata: la sbozzimatura, il bruciapelo, il lavaggio, la purga, la sbianca, il candeggio, il mercerizzo e la sodatura.

Poi la tintura che si occupa di applicare le sostanze coloranti alle varie fibre tessile e che nel caso della Tintoria Crespi viene effettuata col metodo dello“stoccaggio a freddo”, utilizzando cioè coloranti reattivi.

E infine il finissaggio che negli anni ha assunto una crescente importanza e comprende l’applicazione di mezzi fisici e chimici sul tessuto allo scopo di conferirgli particolari caratteristiche, modificandone la mano e l’aspetto: l’apprettatura, le spazzolature, la garzatura e la sanforizzazione del tessuto, ecc.

In quasi novant’anni d’attività la Crespi si è specializzata nella lavorazione per conto terzi di tessuti in cotone, lino e viscosa per abbigliamento e tessuti per camiceria tinti in filo, arrivando a trattare, all’interno della storica sede di Busto Arsizio, ben 20 milioni di metri lineari di tessuto l’anno.

La continua ricerca di innovativi effetti di finissaggio, la perfetta combinazione di qualità, professionalità ed esperienza e al contempo la spinta costante verso la sperimentazione hanno portato negli anni la Tintoria Crespi a porsi come una delle realtà più interessanti e dinamiche del panorama europeo e mondiale della nobilitazione tessile.

TINTORIA G. CRESPI Con oltre 100 dipendenti l’azienda, nata agli albori della chimica industriale tessile, si è evoluta sotto l’attenta guida dei diversi membri della famiglia Crespi. A cominciare dal suo fondatore Giovanni Crespi, che ha dato l’avvio a questa impresa, inizialmente dedita solo alla tintura del filato, per continuare con la storica direzione della Sig.ra Lucia che per quasi 60 anni ha gestito la Crespi all’insegna della professionalità ed elevatissimi standard qualitativi e giungere sino all’Ing. Giulio Ferrario, figlio della stessa e Michele Ferrario, nipote e attuale proprietario della Tintoria.

Sotto la sua guida essa è stata oggetto di un ampliamento spaziale ed interprete di un importante aggiornamento dei macchinari.

Cosa che le ha permesso di porsi come una delle aziende più tecnologicamente avanzate in fatto di nobilitazione e al contempo di individuare nuovi percorsi nelle tecniche di finissaggio. La particolare attenzione posta tradizionalmente dall’azienda ai controlli qualitativi del tessuto e alle esigenze della clientela, in un’ottica di totale collaboratività tra le parti, sono sempre state il fiore all’occhiello della Crespi.

La Crespi, conosciuta in Busto Arsizio anche come la Famiglia dei “ratini”, in ragione della grande operosità dei suoi membri, ha di recente deciso di adottare questo piccolo animale a simbolo dell’azienda.

The brand’s latest novelty was presented in 2001, when Victorinox clothing made its debut in the USA with elegant sports items, understated after the Swiss fashion. After five years the successful brand is back on the European market, and, after being awarded prizes, it draws its new inspiration from the alpine environment and presents a men’s Autumn-Winter 2007 collection focused on three themes: Tour, Tech and Military.

A dare vita a Progetto, nei primi anni novanta, sono Giancarlo Coltri, Paolo Smagliato e Diego Zorzi che a Padova realizzano la loro idea di società di distribuzione, promozione e comunicazione di calzature e accessori di alta gamma. Grazie alla grande conoscenza del prodotto e ad un’attenta analisi del mercato, i tre fondatori riescono presto ad imporsi nel settore tanto da pensare di ampliarsi a Milano. Ed è in Via Archimede che Progetto dà vita ad un innovativo Showroom, aperto alla ricerca di stili e trend in divenire, che sappia far tesoro della professionalità e competenza dei suoi fondatori, attenti interpreti delle tendenze moda. Sono nomi come Costume National, Etro, Philippe Model, Sophie Kokosalaki e Katharine Hamnett che collaborano con Progetto, sempre più punto di riferimento nella Milano di tendenza.

Lo stimolo è tale che proprio nella Città della Moda Progetto decide, nel febbraio 2007, di bissare il successo del suo showroom rilanciando con un nuovissimo spazio.

Ricavata in un ex laboratorio industriale, la nuova sede Progetto vede dialogare forme pulite e materiali nobili: noce per i pavimenti e per le pareti, ottone brunito, cuoio e vetro per delineare ambienti di fascino e di stile.

In questo fusion-showroom trovano la giusta collocazione gioielli, t-shirt e collezioni di giovani creativi che vanno ad arricchire l’offerta di accessori moda in uno spazio che si fa gallery per ospitare opere, mostre e presentazioni.

PROGETTO MODERNE ISPIRAZIONI

Progetto was started in Padua in the early nineties by Giancarlo Coltri, Paolo Smagliato and Diego Zorzi to realise their idea of a distribution, promotion and communication firm in the field of footwear and high quality accessories. Thanks to their sound knowledge of products and of market analysis, the three founders were so successful that they decided to open an innovative Showroom in Via Archimede, Milan, devoted to research on changing styles in fashion, an activity that could treasure the skill and competence of its founders in interpreting fashion trends.

Progetto, an important benchmark for trendy Milan, avails itself of the collaboration of Costume National, Etro, Philippe Model, Sophie Kokosalaki and Katharine Hamnett.

The initiative was so stimulating that, in February 2007, Progetto decided to repeat the success of their showroom in the very City of Fashion by launching a new 350 squaremetre space of ideas for luxury clothing and accessories, at an overall 700 square-metre location entirely devoted to fashion and art, with a view to making the most of sophisticated designers’ and up-and-coming artists’ creativity.

Alessandro dell’Acqua, Philip Treacy, Hussein Chalayan, Angelo Figus, Fiorentini+Baker and Numero 10 are among the names featuring in the new space.

The new location was planned by the architects Parisotto and Formenton who brought to new life this sober 20th century piece of industrial architecture, by laying emphasis on its structural elegance and the functionality of its wide spaces. Obtained from a former industrial workshop, Progetto’s new location is the combined outcome of neat forms and precious materials: walnut for the floors and walls, burnished brass, leather and glass to make the premises alluring and stylish. A fusion-showroom that supplies an appropriate setting for jewels, T-shirts and collections by young creators that enrich the fashion accessories on display, a space and a gallery for works of art, exhibitions and presentations.

Yoko Ono è una delle maggiori autrici della scena artistica del dopoguerra. Nata a Tokyo nel 1933, a vent’anni si trasferisce con la famiglia a New York.

Nella città americana diventa uno dei maggiori protagonisti del movimento Fluxus. Corrente che rivendica l'intrinseca artisticità dei gesti più comuni, in un rapporto diretto tra arte e vita. Uno sconfinamento dell'atto creativo nel flusso della vita quotidiana, in nome di un'arte totale. Tutto nel segno dell’intermedialità in una commistione tra musica, poesia e arti visive. Nelle opere dell’artista grande rilievo è dato al rapporto tra pubblico e lavoro. Come acutamente sottolinea Achille Bonito Oliva: In definitiva l’intero percorso di Yoko Ono ha sempre sviluppato il riconoscimento necessario del pubblico, come nel dialogo Zen che promuove un processo di scambio conoscitivo. Altro elemento essenziale delle sue poetiche è l’uso del corpo, non solamente in modo funzionale, ma come elemento centrale della creazione. Azioni che sono irripetibili, nell’evidenziare la forza del momento.Un gesto che non sarà mai identico a quello precedente. Ogni elemento è individuale e ogni gestualità diventa inevitabilmente atto creativo.

L’autrice nella sua carriera ha partecipato alle maggiori rassegne internazionali, tra cui la Biennale di Venezia e Documenta di Kassel.

Yoko Ono is one of the major authors on the post-war artistic scene.

Born in Tokyo in 1933, at the age of 20 she moved to New York with her family and became one of the leading protagonists of Fluxus, a movement whose main tenets were that common gestures are intrinsically artistic, and that there is a direct relationship between art and life. The creative act partakes in the flow of daily life, and brings about a form of total art achieved through the merging of music, poetry and the visual arts. In this artist’s works great importance is attached to the relationship between the work of art and the public. As Achille Bonito Oliva has acutely remarked: “All in all the whole of Yoko Ono’s artistic evolution has always recognised the public as necessary, like in the Zen dialogue, in which a process of mutual knowledge is favoured”. Another essential element in her poetics is the use of the body, which is not merely a functional element but a central one in the process of creation. Unique gestures that express momentary drives, gestures that are never identical to previously accomplished ones, as each of them has an individual character of its own and inevitably becomes a creative act. In her career the author has taken part in the most important international exhibitions, among which Venice Biennial and Kassel Documenta.

Her works are on display at international museums like the Moma and the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, the Sogetsu Museum, Tokyo, and the ICA, Boston.

Amore, convenzioni sociali, costumi e ossessioni: queste sono alcune delle tematiche affrontate da Gilbert & Gorge. Il duo di artisti vivono e lavorano insieme dal 1967, anno in cui ancora studenti si sono conosciuti alla St. Martin’s School of Art di Londra. Da allora con le loro opere hanno profondamente influenzato l’evoluzione dell’arte inglese, diventandone assoluti protagonisti.

Robin Dutt, in Gilbert & Gorge. Ossessioni e Compulsioni, scrive: Parliamo di due artisti le cui vite sono un’estensione di ciò che producono. Il loro stile è immutato da trent’anni: abiti spezzati tipicamente british e un’immagine all’apparenza conservatrice. Le pose dei loro ritratti richiamano la rigidità dei dipinti tardo-vittoriani.

Un impianto all’apparenza classico, che tramite contraddizioni visive mira a mettere in crisi le usanze dell’agire borghese. Operare all’insegna della totale libertà creativa, in modo dissacrante e provocatorio.

Una lotta al senso di insoddisfazione contemporanea che porta ad uno sterile conformismo. Gli autori con le loro opere vogliono far cadere una serie di valori che ritengono totalmente inadeguati e superati.

Lavori che plasmano un universo creativo inconfondibile.

Un modo artificiale di rappresentare la realtà in cui loro sono gli assoluti protagonisti. Talvolta è il loro corpo a divenire strumento creativo. In The Singing Sculture (1970) i due artisti diventano delle sculture viventi. Questo per sancire l’essenza del loro pensiero: artista e opera prodotta da questo, sono un qualche cosa di reciproco, unico e inscindibile.

Love, social conventions, customs and obsessions are some of the themes Gilbert & George deal with.

The two artists have been living and working together since 1967 when they met at St Martin’s School of Art, London. Since then they have become outstanding protagonists of English art and have deeply influenced its evolution. As Robin Dutt writes in his “Gilbert & George.

Obsessions and Compulsions”: “We are speaking of two artists whose lives are an extension of their creations”.

Their style has remained unaltered for thirty years: typically British separates and an apparently conservative look. The poses of people in their portraits are reminiscent of the fixed countenance of the people in late Victorian paintings. Structured according to standards that might appear classical, their works are aimed at undermining middle-class ways and behaviour with a view to achieving absolute creative freedom in a debunking, defiant way.

Their works are aimed at challenging the dissatisfaction typical of our age, a feeling inevitably leading to sterile conventionality, and at doing away with values that the authors believe to be inadequate and outdated.

An artificial way of representing reality, their works give shape to a distinctive creative universe of which they are the outright protagonists. It is just the body that sometimes becomes a creative instrument, like in The Singing Sculpture (1970), where the two artists become living sculptures: the artists and their work jointly making up a unique, consistent reality.

Which is the essence of their thought.

SERENA BARBISAN Nei mesi di Marzo e Aprile, presso lo Spazio Lazzari di Treviso, la pittrice Serena Barbisan ha esposto due cicli di lavori pittorici. Da un lato Growing e dall’altro Questions About The Fashion. Il primo, composto da dipinti giocati sulla tonalità blu, che identificano un particolare periodo per l’autrice, è un momento di crescita interiore, impresso nella tela tramite i cromatismi astratti che caratterizzano la sua opera. Questions About The Fashion è invece un ciclo di dipinti, realizzati appositamente per lo Spazio Lazzari, che rappresentano una riflessione sul mondo della moda con i suoi vizi, eccessi, innovazioni e virtù. Una ricerca quella dell’autrice trevigiana che non mira ad un discorso incentrato sul reale ma ad una trasposizione attraverso il colore delle sensazioni più profonde. Non vi sono riferimenti tangibili ma stati emotivi impressi sulla tela.

Un tradurre la propria emozionalità mediante la tecnica pittorica che porta lo spettatore a sentire gli echi del vissuto dell’autrice. Una pittura gestuale e di conseguenza legata ai moti interiori.

Ma per questo non del tutto incidentale, perché derivante da una profonda stratificazione di attimi di vita quotidiana. Un colore vibrante che domina la scena, dal forte impatto tonale. Un’energia sottesa, quasi a voler affermare un grande e intimo bisogno di libertà, per superare i confini imposti dal reale.

Last March and April, painter Serena Barbisan exhibited two cycles of paintings at Lazzari Space, Treviso, ‘Growing’ and ‘Questions about Fashion’.

Made up of paintings focused on various shades of blue, the former corresponds to a particular stage in the author’s life, a process of spiritual growth which the canvass records through the abstract chromatic language typical of the artist’s works. ‘Questions about Fashion’, instead, is a cycle of paintings specially created for Spazio Lazzari, a reflection on the world of fashion, on its faults, excesses, innovations and virtues. The Trevisan author’s research is not aimed at representing reality but at transposing her heart-felt sensations into the domain of art through colour. What the paintings record are not matter-of-fact data, but emotional states of mind which enable viewers to recapture echoes of the author’s past experience, for her gestual painting is connected with her spiritual life, and this in turn recalls deeper layers of existence, stratified moments of daily life. Colour vibrations pervade the canvass with the power of their rich overtones; the underlying energy that we perceive is a loud cry for freedom to overcome the constraints of reality.

Marco Milan+Lorenzini scaturisce dall’idea di creare una camicia di ispirazione sartoriale dall’esplicita declinazione fashion, interamente realizzata in Italia. E non banalmente sotto la fantomatica quanto improbabile aura del made in italy ma nella volontà di lavorare ad un capo alla “maniera italiana”: dalla sua progettazione, ad opera del giovane designer Marco Milan, attraverso l’impiego di tessuti italiani, completamente organici sia nella base che nella tintura del filato, alla confezione, interamente realizzata dalla storica Lorenzini.

Dettagli nascosti che ci permettono di accedere alla sofisticatezza della semplificazione concettuale di cui sono intrisi questi capi. Identificabili dall’idea del particolare sulla lista del collo o dalla scelta di un packaging bianco, inverosimilmente privo di qualsiasi logo in colore e appena marchiato sulla superficie.

Marco Milan+Lorenzini stems from a project to create a line of fashionable sartorial shirts, entirely made in Italy, not simply by using the elusive and imprecise formula ‘made in Italy’, but by tailoring shirts ‘after the Italian fashion’: from their design made by the young creator Marco Milan, to the employment of Italian fabrics, woven out of completely naturally dyed organic materials, to the tailoring, entirely realised by the historical firm Lorenzini.

The items have details which, far from being eyecatching, enable us to appreciate the sophisticated simplified concept they express. The details range from the stripe sewn over the collar joint seam, to the choice of a white packaging, unbelievably lacking any coloured logo and bearing the hardly visible brand on the surface.

At its debut, due by July 10, the brand will issue only a button-down collar model and a spread collar one for an overall 200 shirts available in four different fabrics.

Nine among the most prestigious European multibrand and concept stores will be involved in the distribution, with different issues throughout the season.

Dallo scorso febbraio hanno letteralmente invaso l’Italia: le avrete viste per le strade della vostra città, nei locali più alternativi, sulle pagine delle riviste e vi sarete posti un sacco di domande.

Prima di tutto da dove esse arrivino e la risposta è molto semplice: dritte dalla Danimarca dunque non fatevi ingannare dal nome nipponico.

Poi in quanti colori vengano prodotte e quello che possiamo dirvi è che non avete ancora visto niente, questo era solo un assaggio. Infine se è vero che esiste anche un modello alto di queste scarpe e la risposta è sì, ma dovrete aspettare fino a Settembre per potervi arraffare un paio di low-cut boot. Le Kawasaki sono una delle novità più interessanti di quest’anno e tra le scarpe più chiacchierate nella rete.

I ragazzi di età compresa tra i 20 e i 25 anni sono impazziti per queste scarpe in tela che più di vent’anni fa sono divenute oggetto di culto e ora promettono di ritornare ad esserlo.

Blog, forum e webzine che avevano pubblicato la notizia del loro arrivo sul nostro mercato sono stati sommersi di thread e domande.

Il fenomeno Kawasaki è cominciato.

I più attenti le avranno notate anche ai piedi dei Klaxons, delle CSS, di Uffie e dei Soulwax a dimostrazione della loro vicinanza alla scena artistica internazionale.

Nei prossimi mesi il Kawasaki Footwear Team comincerà un lavoro di vero e proprio “artistic scouting” nelle principali capitali underground europee, alla ricerca di giovani creativi cui offrire la possibilità di farsi conoscere attraverso la comunicazione del marchio.

Ana Kras, giovanissima artista di Belgrado, firmerà per prima le prossime tre campagne di Kawasaki. Mentre per quanto riguarda le fantasie “special” (vedi il successo della Cartoon limited edition), da qui a ottobre, saranno progressivamente introdotti nuovi modelli cosmetic come “Newspaper”, “Camouflage” e “Scottish Kilt”. Since last February Italy has been literally flooded with Kawasaki footwear: you may have seen it in the streets of your city, in the most alternative public places, on the pages of magazines and you may have asked yourselves a lot of questions.

Firstly, where does it come from?

The answer is very simple, straight from Denmark; so, don’t be mislaid by the Japanese name.

Secondly, how many colours does it come in?

All we can tell you is that you have seen very little so far, only a foretaste of it all. Lastly, we can now confirm that these shoes also come in a high fashion model, but you will have to wait until September to get hold of a pair of low cut boots.

Kawasaki shoes are among this year’s most interesting novelties and among the most chattedabout ones on the net. Boys and girls between 20 and 25 are crazy about these canvas shoes which became a cult object over 20 years ago, and are now on their way to regain their former status.

Blogs, forums and webzines that had predicted their arrival on our market, have been flooded with threads and questions. It was the start of the Kawasaki phenomenon.

Careful watchers may have seen the Klaxons, the CSS, Uffie and the Soulwax wearing them, which proves how closely linked Kawasaki shoes are to the international art scene.

A few months from now Kawasaki Footwear Team will start their ‘artistic scouting’ in the main underground European capitals to offer young creators a chance to make themselves known through brand communication.

Ana Kras, a very young artist from Belgrade, will be the first to sign Kawasaki’s next three campaigns.

The collector Mr Kitamura defined ‘fateful’ his first encounter with th ‘Nobori No ’, Japanese antique banners, and has ever since kept collecting them em by b profession, to the extent that after 35 years he hass gathe gathered ed somet something like 200.

As he has always att attached greater importance to qua quality rather than to quantityy, most of the pieces n his collection ar a e ffrrom the Edo period (1603-early rly 2 20th cent.), an age when n there the e was a great flourishing hing of Japanese Jap artists and most of U Ukiyo-e print art works were we created.

It w was a period when, besides using normal sized canvasses, many Ukiyo-e artists carried out their works on banners which grew in size and were used in a great number of ways when cotton fabrics became widespread. The original function of banners was to mark the diffe f rence between friend and foe at war, r but with the passing of time their function changed.

When droughts, earthquakes

or fires occurred in the Edo period, to ward off the evil spirits that were thought to cause them the people prayed to gods and Buddha hoping to regain their physical and mental well-being.

Traditionally, relatives jointly presented baby boys with banners to celebrate Boy’s Day Festival.

Female relatives gathered to pray for their sons’ safety and growth and stitched the ‘chi’ ( i.e. they fastened the banner to a pole with hemp string) onto expensive banners made by artists and printers. The designs or patterns on the banners for Boy’s Day Festival were generally illustrations of wishes and exhortations such as ‘be a strong child!’, ‘be a wise person!’, ‘be a great man!’, or ‘have a happy life’, to express the relatives’ everlasting affection for a child. Prayers for the family, for regional stability and for an abundant harvest were pictorially illustrated with vigorous strokes and strong colours as can be seen in the ‘Hono-Nobori’ (devotional

banners for shrines and temples).

It is hardly possible to fathom the great interest that people placed on annual events and ceremonial occasions in those days, when festivals at shrines and temples were fully enjoyed by the community and banners illustrated in lively characters were hoisted to build up a festive atmosphere. Local people used to take special care of the banners, and folded them neatly up on rainy days to unfold them again after the rain had stopped.

Only skilled artists were required to draw and paint patterns and motifs on such long vertical banners, but in spite of this such ancient works are not currently appreciated by the public as they would deserve, maybe because of their size or because they bear no visible trace of the artists’ signatures or seals. No matter how little ancient banners are valued today, it is worthwhile getting to know this unknown world of beauty.

Così il Sig. Kitamura, collezionista, ha descritto il suo primo incontro con i “Nobori”, gli antichi stendardi giapponesi. Da quel momento la sua raccolta è proseguita come un lavoro per tutta la vita, e, a distanza di 35 anni la sua collezione vanta circa 200 pezzi. Attribuendo Kitamura maggior importanza alla qualità più che alla quantità, gran parte della sua collezione è venuta a consistere di pezzi del periodo Edo (1603-inizi del ‘900), epoca di grande fioritura di artisti giapponesi quando fu creata la maggior parte delle famose opere a stampa Ukiyo-e. Oltre a usare tele di dimensioni normali, molti artisti Ukiyo-e usarono anche bandiere per le loro creazioni, e la diffusione generalizzata del cotone portò a bandiere di più grandi dimensioni, usate in vari modi. In origine tali stendardi venivano usati per distinguere alleati e nemici in guerra, ma col passare del tempo tale funzione mutò. Nel periodo Edo vi furono stagioni di siccità, oppure di terremoti e incendi, e per tener

lontani gli spiriti malvagi che li causavano la gente pregava gli dei e Buddha sperando di recuperare il necessario benessere fisico e mentale.

Era usanza che i parenti donassero degli stendardi per celebrare la Festa del Figlio Maschio. Pregando per la sicurezza e la buona crescita dei figli, le parenti femmine si riunivano in cerchio a fissare il “chi” su costosi stendardi (fissavano lo stendardo alla sua asta con spago di canapa) fatti da artisti e stampatori. Le raffigurazioni sugli stendardi della Festa del Figlio Maschio consistono di illustrazioni che rappresentano esortazioni come “sii un figlio forte!”, “sii saggio!”, “sii grande”, “che la tua vita sia felice”, cioè espressioni di affetto eterno per il figlio. Negli “Hono-Nobori” (stendardi devozionali per i templi e i santuari) si possono vedere preghiere per la famiglia, per la stabilità del territorio e per auspicare raccolti abbondanti espresse con energiche pennellate e colori in forte contrasto. È difficile spiegare l’enorme interesse che esisteva per le ricorrenze annuali e le cerimonie, in un’epoca in cui le

festività presso i santuari e i templi erano momenti di autentico godimento per la gente.

In tali ricorrenze si issavano stendardi decorati con illustrazioni e colori per creare l’atmosfera di festa, e gli abitanti del luogo, affinché si conservassero in buono stato per molti anni, se ne prendevano gran cura ripiegandoli ben bene nei giorni di pioggia e dispiegandoli nuovamente appena tornato il sereno. In ogni caso deve essere stato necessario un notevole livello di abilità da parte degli artisti per disegnare motivi e decorazioni su tele verticali di tale lunghezza, efficaci proprio per le loro dimensioni speciali. Tuttavia le loro dimensioni e il fatto che esse non rechino la firma o il sigillo dell’artista fanno sì che oggi non godano di grande considerazione presso il pubblico.

A prescindere dalla valutazione che oggi se ne dà, resta il fatto che l’incontro con il mondo bello e sconosciuto che gli stendardi rappresentano è comunque di grande interesse.

Dal 2001 Soap racconta di arte e design ma anche di sensazioni del vivere quotidiano in una Repubblica Ceca che muove i suoi primi passi nel cosmo della grafica e della tipografia. Protagonista del magazine è la nuova generazione di giovani provenienti da tutti gli angoli del mondo: fotografi, musicisti, designers esprimono la loro creatività nelle pagine rigorosamente in bianco e nero di Soap. Il progetto nasce dalla voglia di comunicare idee e condividere l’entusiasmo per l’arte e per una cultura tutta da scoprire.

Realizzata da un collettivo di designer americani, in Royal arte e moda si mescolano per dare vita a un prodotto originale e anticonformista. È una rivista giovane, ricca di idee che crede in un giornalismo attivo e trasparente: la cultura è il centro intorno a cui gravita la filosofia di questo magazine.

Soap has since 2001 been dealing with art and design and offering its readers a world of daily life sensations in a country like the Czech Republic which is currently starting out in graphics and printing. The magazine’s protagonists are a new generation of young artists from all over the world: photographers, musicians, designers who express their creativity in the rigorously black and white pages of Soap.

The project is the outcome of their wish to communicate ideas and share the enthusiasm for artistic and cultural discoveries.

This year the New York based firm has decided to create a new, exclusive line for demanding and sophisticated travellers who are attracted to top functionality but do not want to renounce luxury and elegance.

The LXT line is made up of eight travel and business models: trolleys, holdalls, business laptop carriers and messenger bags. The models combine aesthetic refinement and very high functionality and are the outcome of Tumi’s skilful use of high-performance materials such as the extra resistant Ballistic Nylon FXT with micro-fibre lining, finest leather and chrome plated aircraft grade aluminum.

Blue Bella Story Blue Bella Story is Wrangler’s sophisticated vintage collection in limited edition, entirely devoted to women and previewed at Paris fashion week.

Wrangler looks back to the past seeking inspiration in the fascinating world of grandmother’s loft, where old Victorian fabrics and dusty photos reveal the preciousness of timeless objects. From a casket containing stored away recollections springs an original innovative collection, young creators’ contribution to the interpretation of the brand’s unmistakable style. A living symbol of the Manga Style, Aya Takano is the Japanese artist credited with the debut of Blue Bella Story, with cream T-shirts characterised by thin coloured dashes (lemon yellow, pink, mint green, light blue), sweat shirts in cashmere mix, shirts with a faded and dusty look obtained through the use of brown and grey shades of sepia.

Wrangler fa un tuffo nel passato, cercando ispirazione nel fascinoso mondo della “soffitta della nonna”, dove antichi tessuti vittoriani e vecchie foto impolverate rivelano la preziosità di oggetti senza tempo. E dallo scrigno dei ricordi nasce una collezione originale, innovativa, dove la mano di giovani creativi interpreta, attraverso il loro personale sguardo, l’inconfondibile stile del marchio.

Aya Takano è l’artista giapponese simbolo del Manga Style chiamata a firmare il debutto di Blue Bella Story con T-shirt color crema dai sottili tratti colorati (giallo limone, rosa, verde menta, blu pallido), felpe in misto cashmere, camicie in seta dall’effetto “sbiadito e impolverato”, ottenuto grazie all’uso di tinte seppiate nelle varianti del marrone e del grigio.

Accanto a queste, diversi modelli di jeans che si distinguono per la minuziosa cura dei particolari: dai ricami ai bottoni, dalle finiture fino alle applicazioni in pelle, tutti dettagli caratteristici del brand. Le tasche posteriori si allungano e si avvicinano ai fianchi per sottolineare le sensuali curve femminili: “Rebecca”, il super skinny, il chiarissimo “Janis” e la tuta “Gemma” sono solo alcuni dei modelli Blue Bella Story, che per il prossimo Autunno-Inverno presenta una collezione di denim a vita alta, in linea con la tendenza del momento. A completare il look della collezione l’immancabile giubbino Wrangler.

The back pockets are longer than usual and nearly reach up to the waistline to emphasise the sensuality of feminine curves: super slim ‘Rebecca’, extra clear ‘Janis’ and the training suit ‘Gemma’ are only a few of the models in Blue Bella Story, which also presents its Autumn-Winter high waistline denim collection, in line with the current trend.

Of all scheduled international presentations, Workshop Fashion Agency’s salons are appointments that can’t be missed. Paris, Milan and Tokyo are the most suitable containers for the brands and leading creators that the Workshop team have selected from the fields of Fashion, Footwear and Accessories.

Il 21 Giugno i riflettori si accenderanno sul brand internazionale di lifestyle targato Renzo Rosso e l’area ex Dogana di via Valfonda aprirà, per la prima volta, le porte al mondo della Moda per questa serata evento.

Dal 20 al 23 giugno nei padiglioni dell’ex Dogana verranno inoltre esposte le linee di abbigliamento e accessori delle collezioni uomo e donna del marchio denim. Molti gli appuntamenti da non perdere: lo scenario delle colline sopra Firenze ospiterà alla vigilia di Pitti, nella serata di martedì 19, la sfilata di Ermanno Scervino con la presentazione della pre-collezione donna e della collezione uomo estateprimavera 2008.

Il 20 giugno lo stilista belga Dirk Bikkembergs proporrà un allestimento dal forte impatto in una stazione Leopolda completamente trasformata per l’occasione; villa Vittoria sarà invece il palcoscenico di Rooms n.6, l’anima più ricercata del luxury design. Un giardino tropicale nelle stanze della Villa ottocentesca sarà l’inedito contesto “Living in the Jungle”, per l’esposizione di collezioni in serie limitata, pregiate e anticonvenzionali.

Welcome to My House invece sarà curato da Erica il Cane, artista di punta della scena Underground italiana. Tra le iniziative da segnalare quella del Museo del Tessuto di Prato che nella cornice della Fortezza lancerà il concorso per nuovi designer “La tuta sfida il futuro”.

Diesel is the eagerly awaited protagonist of Pitti Uomo n. 72.

On June 21st Renzo Rosso’s lifestyle international brand will be brought to the fore and the former Dogana area will for the first time be available for the world of fashion on this opening night event.

From the 20th to the 23rd of June the lines and accessories of the denim brand’s men’s and women’s collections will be on show in the stands laid out in the area.

Countless events demand attention. On Tuesday evening, June 19th, the eve of the Pitti event, the hilly scene above Forence will be the background for Ermanno Scervino’s fashion show, and for the presentation of his women’s pre-collection and men’s summer-spring 2008 collection. On June 20th the Belgian stylist Dirk Bikkembergs will propose a sensational collection at Stazione Leopolda, completely refurbished for the occasion, whereas Villa Vittoria will be the stage for Rooms n. 6, sophisticated leaders in luxury design.

A tropical garden in the premises of the 19th–century villa will provide the extraordinary frame “Living in the Jungle” for the display of valuable, unconventional collections in limited edition. Welcome to My House will be edited by Erica il Cane, a leading artist on the Italian Underground scene.

Among other worth-mentioning initiatives the competition for up-and-coming designers “La tuta sfida il futuro” (The training suit challenges the future) that will be announced by Prato Museum of Fabrics in the setting provided by the Fortezza da Basso.

In pochi hanno saputo scrivere le pagine degli ultimi 50 anni della moda italiana come Max Mara. Mantenendo inalterati gli elevati contenuti stilistici, la ricerca qualitativa e la tipica accuratezza “sartoriale” applicata ad una produzione industriale il Gruppo ha saputo conservare principi e priorità che da sempre lo contraddistinguono. Lo scorso marzo, presso il Kulturforum degli Staatliche Museum di Berlino, si è conclusa la prima edizione della mostra itinerante “COATS! Max Mara, 55 anni di moda italiana”, appassionante viaggio storico nella moda italiana attraverso il cappotto, capo-icona del marchio.

Dal prossimo ottobre l’esposizione sarà ospitata dalla Mori Art Gallery di Tokyo.
