社説

Grazie all’espansione del mercato online, il successo di un prodotto o di un brand dipende, oltre che dalla qualità stessa, sempre più dall’efficacia, dalla razionalità e dalla semplicità della comunicazione con il consumatore. Esprimere la propria idea è diventato importante come l’idea stessa. La coerenza e la credibilità diventano fondamentali.

Il retail presenta oggi troppi conflitti tra le vetrine delle capitali e le grandi occasioni del low-cost, tra i punti vendita effettivi e quelli di ridistribuzione. È così che l’incertezza del cliente interessato aumenta, mentre la sua fiducia svanisce irrimediabilmente. Bisogna tornare a focalizzarsi su chi usufruisce il prodotto, la sua soddisfazione nell’acquisto e la sua piacevole esperienza nel possederlo.

Anche quest’anno Mug Magazine vuole presentare delle realtà che lottano per queste aspettative, affrontando le più svariate difficoltà. L’obiettivo è quello di evidenziarne la ricerca nei materiali, il know-how, l’artigianalità, la tecnologia, la qualità dei dettagli e la capacità di realizzare valore aggiunto. Vogliamo informare su queste realtà che ancora esistono e che continuano a mettere al primo posto i desideri e le necessità dell’utente finale.

As online transactions become more and more widespread, product or brand success depends not only on their quality but on the increasing effectiveness, rationality and simplicity of communication. The way ideas are conveyed has become as important as ideas themselves, and consistency and reliability are of basic importance.

Retail is today characterized by too many conflicts between the items in cities’ shop-windows and low-cost bargains, between actual outlets and those involved in redistribution. This is why customers involved become increasingly uncertain and their trust is often irretrievably lost. We must once again focus on consumers, on their wishes and needs, their satisfaction in buying products and the pleasure they experience in owning them.

This year Mug Magazine’s renewed aim is to present protagonists in the world of fashion who struggle for the above challenging achievements, to illustrate their research on materials, know-how, artisanal skills, technology, detail quality and capacity to realize value-added.

DIALOGHI CON LA CITTÀ

In a limited edition of 500 copies, the volume fits into the ideal itinerary which starts from the 2002 personal retrospective exhibition on Toni Benetton and includes the recent “Forme di Luce –Toni Benetton + Neonlauro” held in 2017. A fifteen-year journey through the images of all the macro-sculptures realized by maestro Benetton and located in some urban spaces in Treviso (Italy). The images are accompanied by texts that describe the genesis of each exhibition and the later contamination with the works realized with neon tubes and created by the up-and-coming artist Alberto Feltrin.

500冊の限定版 DIALOGHI CON L A CI TTÀは、2002年のToni Benettonの 回顧展から始まり、最近開催された2017 年の‘ Forme di Luce - Toni Benetton + Neonlauro’までの想像上の旅日記が収 められた書籍である。紙面を飾る写真は すべて、イタリア、トレヴィゾの都市部に点 在するいくつかのスペースに設置されて いる巨匠 Benettonによるマクロ彫刻で、 それらの写真を通し、15年の旅が綴られ ている。写真には各展示の起源と説明文 が添えられている。書籍の後半は、ネオン 管を使った作品が特徴の将来有望な アーティスト、アルベルト・フェルトリンに よる作品とのコンタミネーションとなって いる。

Caosordinato (Ordered Chaos) was born in 2016 from an idea of Stefano and Corinna Chiassai, not as a book but as a contribution to a many-faceted cultural and multi media project by the Chiassai Studio. Focusing on the concept of fashion as culture, it emphasizes the importance of educating to good taste and of reviving the invaluable richness of the world of fashion we often miss in our speed-dominated world.

Fashion archives are the catalysts that lead us to recapture visual emotions centred on creativity, which stems from history, culture, tradition and innovation.

The Studio’s content-focused research will include cultural and fashion events and lead to the publishing of their new volume scheduled for 2018.

Caosordinato（整然とした無秩序）は、 2016 年にステファノ・キアッサイとコリン ナ・キアッサイのアイデアから、本としてで はなく、キアッサイスタジオによる多面文 化とマルチメディアプロジェクトへの貢献 する事を目的として誕生した。文化として のファッションのコンセプトにフォーカス を当て、スピードに支配された世界で失 われがちなファッションの世界における非 常に貴重な豊かさを復活させること、そし てセンスを育てる重要性に重点を置いて いる。 ファッションアーカイブは、歴史と文化と 伝統と革新から生じる創造力を中心を置 いた視覚的な感情を取り戻す方向へと導 いてくれる。 同スタジオの趣意に焦点を当てた研究は、 文化とファッションのイベントを加え、 2018年には新刊が発行予定である。

Starting from the fibers which are woven into fabrics, the whole of the plant is used, and flax is therefore extremely eco-friendly.

FLAX PROCESSING The seeding of flax in the north of France is the starting point of its magic. In the area between Caen and Amsterdam flax is grown along the sea, an ideal place for its humidity and low range of temperature perfectly suitable also for flax steeping that mainly occurs in Normandy. In these areas and under the above climate conditions flax acquires the correct thinness and becomes homogeneous through the next processing stage, flax-scutching.

From northern Normandy to Flanders and the Netherlands qualified group-work leads to the best features of flax fibers: thinness, strength and homogeneity.

Although the spinning that follows is entirely machine-made, the future of flax is left to the loving, precise, respectful and meticulous care of man.

Through machine-hackling flax fibers are bent, thinned and strengthened without the use of chemicals or oils.

After processing flax acquires a living, breathing, vibrating structure, and recent experiments have led to innovative techniques to obtain new textures and performances. The resulting valuable yarn is a top product due above all to the way it can be combined with different fibers. In the knitwear manufactured particularly in the French Rhone-Alps area, flax is used in combination with cashmere to obtain a warm, soft, teased flax fabric, just one of the countless new proposals pointing to new aspects and performances. That’s why flax is to be considered a valuable material that enables to innovate, experiment and be daring.

フランス北部で行われた亜麻の豆 まきが、亜麻の魔法の出発点であ る。亜麻は、湿度と低い気温が理 想的なフランスのノルマンディー地 方に属するカーンとオランダのアム ステルダム間の海沿いの地域で栽 培されている。また、同地域での栽 培は、主にノルマンディーで行われ ている亜麻のスティーピング作業に も好都合である。この地域の気候条 件下で亜麻は最適な細さとなり、 続くスカッチング工程によって均質 へと加工される。北部のノルマン ディーからフランダース地域、さら には高い技術を持つオランダのグ ループワークによって、細く、強く、 均質な最高品質の亜麻繊維が作り 出されている。次の工程である紡績 作業はすべて機械化されてはいる が、亜麻の未来は、人の愛情や正 確性、丁寧さ、繊細な気配りにかか っているのである。 その後、亜麻繊維は、化学薬品や 油は一切使用せずにハックリング機

械により折り曲げられ、細く強く加 工されていく。加工後の亜麻には、 自然の風合い、通気性 、強度が備 わり、最近の新たな試みでは新し い織り方と性能をもたらす革新的な 技術へと繋がった。このようにして 作られる糸は、異なった繊維との組 み合わせが可能という点から非常に 優れている。ニットウェアを製造す るフランスのローヌアルプス地域で は、温かく、柔らかで、毛羽の立っ た亜麻とカシミアの混紡生地が生 産されているが、これは、亜麻の新 たな側面と性能を示す無数の新提 案のうちの 一つでしかない。それが ゆえに、亜麻は革新的な事や新し い試み、また斬新なアイデアを実現 する事が可能な非常に優秀な素材 であると考えられているのである。

ILMIOLINO Linificio e Canapificio Nazionale’s (National Flaxmill and Hempmill’s) work and production is based on the processing of flax and on its natural and ethic features.

Since 1873 the firm has processed flax constantly following a natural approach since when, on January 14th of the same year, Andrea Ponti established Linificio e Canapificio Nazionale S.p.A, a totally Italian company, today controlled by Marzotto Group. This partnership has enabled the company to widen its production to home furniture and clothing, and to become one of the oldest European firms as well as a symbol of Italian excellence in the production of flax and hemp yarns, in wet spinning and dry spinning. This is the background of IlMioLino’s birth. The processing of flax, the outcome of experience, experiment, research and risk, is carried out on machines, invented and patented by the firm’s technicians, by men who are respectful of the environment, and whose good taste, passion and experience give the yarn quality and value, from mixings to mélanges, from dyeing techniques to special productions.

IlMioLino processing is achieved without polluting the waters, without using any defoliants or pesticides and is open to recycling, so much so that all wastes are used as secondary raw materials.

Another reason why IlMioLino is praiseworthy is that production occurs in five different European countries, a fact that leads to the social and economic integration of European workers. If flax growing and first processing occurs in France, for example, Lithuania sees to the mixings of flax, cashmere and wool to enhance yarn quality.

The final result is a hypo-allergenic fabric that hardly wears out, suitable for the most sensitive skins, at once sustainable, renewable, and trendy, for IlMioLino enhances the fabrics and transforms them into unique fashion products, as is testified by the 4.5 million kilos of yarns manufactured yearly by the Flax Mill.

AMO IL LINO AMO IL LINO was an exhibition held in Milan from the 4th to the 12th May 2017, edited by Philippe Nigro in collaboration with Associazione Montenapoleone and the Italian federate industries within the section Lino di Sistema Moda Italia and within CELC, Europe. In Via Montenapoleone a real flax plant was on show on a 550-metre route between Piazzetta Croce Rossa and Piazza San Babila. The route showed the various stages in flax processing, from the plant to the finishing. At once an artistic installation and a didactic contribution, the exhibition’s objective was to illustrate the various stages in the transformation of flax, from the plant to the yarn and the fabric, to finally show the daily use of materials.

Specific showcases in collaboration with specific partners illustrated the versatility of flax in all its uses and performances.

2 017年 5月4日から1 2日まで、C E L C（ヨ ーロッパ リネン・ヘンプ連合） とLino di Sistema Moda Italia（モードイタリア リネン 機構）セクションに属するイタリア産業連合 とAssociazione Montenapoleone（モンテ ナポレオーレ協会）の協力により、AMO IL LINOと題されたリネンの展示会がミラノで 開催された。フィリッペ・ニグロのデザイン による会場は、モンテナポレオーネ通りの赤 十字広場からサン・バビラ広場までの550メ ートルを、植栽された亜麻が飾り、亜麻が 植物の状態から糸になるまでの様々な加工 工程が展示された。この展示は、単に芸術 的なインスタレーションで人々に教訓的な 貢献をしたと言うだけでなく、展示会の目的 である亜麻が植物の状態から糸や生地、そ して最終的には日常使い慣れた製品になる までの変化の工程を説明するという役割も 果たしていた。 また、ジョン・マルコヴィッチにより創作さ れたショーケースを筆頭に、特定のパートナ ーとのコラボレーションによるショーケース では、亜麻の多様性をあらゆる用途や性能 によって表していた。

WORK AND PRODUCTION OF THE CULTIVATE INDUSTRY Happy tenth anniversary this year!

Since established in June 2007, cornelian taurus by daisuke iwanaga at CULTIVATE INDUSTRY has been producing a bag which faithfully follows the brand concept: “Through bags and products, proposing Japanese culture overseas.”

It started from a single Paris-located store, ‘L’Eclaireur’, when it was launched in the 2007 AW season, and from that moment their committed work has gradually increased and has now achieved a significant relevance with their ten overseas clients and about twenty-five domestic ones.

Bags made of high quality cowhide, horsehide and elements from ship equipments are the distinguished products of cornelian taurus by daisuke iwanaga that have led the brand to steady success in the last decade. Production is entirely made at their own studio or in factories nearby, a production system that has ensured constant high quality. In recent years crocodile and ostrich bags have been serialized, and the variation in the collection

has expanded since exotic leather bags are proving a good move to build up a new business potential for the future.

Their first collaboration with By Walid, a Londonbased apparel brand, is another challenge they will face in the future. The collaboration products, which will be launched starting from the 2017 AW season, was first presented at the pop up store on the second floor of Isetan Shinjuku Men’s from August 2nd to August 15th.

The designer Daisuke Iwanaga, who also works as an artist under the same name, and whose favorite materials are vegetable tanned leather or lacquer coated leather, has recently undertaken the design of all the amenities for the HOSOO RESI-

With its precise editing and view of the world and fashion, the Massaua project conveys a spirit and a culture of clothing meant to manufacture limited editions rather than serial ones.

The materials employed by Massaua consist of Berber wools and pure, natural, traditionally grown African cotton.

I wanted something authentic to enable people to feel at ease while carrying or wearing it, and I chose naturally tanned cowhide because it changes in time, like human beings. I like aging things because I think that, once aged, things make a better wear.

I always strive for simplicity and practicality, for objects with a definite taste, that can be owned by people and live with them for the whole of a lifetime.

A forty-seven-year-old outstanding Florentine brand that is now renewing its image and appearing on new markets.

In a world dominated by mass produced goods we have chosen to stick to our craftsmanship and to manufacture each single item by hand, to rely on the skillful craftsmen we have and to choose trustworthy quality suppliers. We were born in Tuscany and

here we have continued to remain, in Florence, the city that welcomed me many years ago and enabled me to build my life.

Il Bisonte proves that professional skills and the quality of materials lead to success even in a global market evolving at an unprecedented speed. What does the future have in store for us?

Our forty-seven-year-old story is a true one, and we want to continue to tell it our way, but without withdrawing from the world. Curiosity, experiment, experience and quality are the basic elements we like to grapple with. We already have shops and official sellers in half of the world but we are heading for new frontiers while keeping our strong, consistent, ‘different’ identity in the world of fashion and accessories.

Stone Island Prototype Research Series is a project of native limited editions meant to foster research not yet submitted to industrial production. The second series was presented at the 2017 Design Week.

VIBRAM The history and foundation of Vibram are rooted in the early ‘thirties. The first, inspiring idea was triggered by a true story. Vitale Bramani, a climber and well-known alpine guide, in 1935 directly witnessed a tragedy occurred in the Western Alps, when six climbers lost their lives due to the inadequacy of their boots.

As a result, towards the end of the ‘thirties Vitale Bramani realized the first vulcanized rubber sole (called ‘carrarmato’), branded Vibram from the inventor’s initials (Vi-tale Bram-ani). After Bramani personally tested the sole with positive results, it was in 1954 employed on the mountaineering boots for the first Italian expedition on K2. Over the years Vibram has improved its technique and processing, on items ranging from casual soles to more technical ones and focusing on precise planning and careful study of the materials employed. Today Vibram is credited with being the leading brand in the production and trade of high performance rubber soles for the Outdoor, Lifestyle and Repair markets.

Early in 2000 Vibram made an important step forward with the creation of Vibram FiveFingers. Defined by Time as one of the best inventions, Vibram FiveFingers interprets the concept of ‘glove for the foot’, a sort of second skin that has completely revolutionized the concept of ‘walking barefoot’. Furthermore, FiveFingers has been the forerunner of a number of relevant avant-garde models and stylistic variations for different personalities, comfort targets and technologies in footwear.

ARTHUR ARBESSER FOR VIBRAM The collection Arthur Arbesser for Vibram is characterized by its peculiar personality. Indebted to the Vibram FiveFingers for its vamp, the women’s collection has an original and surprising style in that it reinterprets the concept of prêt-a-porter shoes with avant-garde and revolutionary overtones.

The three capsule models are characterized by soft leather vamps – that come also in stretchy leather or in a mixture of fabrics – and by soles that range from the ‘maxi volume’ to those in ‘rubber + eva’ to guarantee top lightness and comfort.

‘S MAX MARA HERE IS THE CUBE Stemmed from a brilliant idea of the Emilia-based industry Max Mara, Here is the Cube celebrates its tenth anniversary and still proves to be an innovative avantgarde project.

Born in 2008, the Cube was aimed at revolutionizing the maison’s iconic camel coat by fitting its class and dateless style to the needs of today’s dynamic, active women. The result was the first line of modular down coats signed by ‘S Max Mara that can be compacted and provided with accessories; sophisticated down jackets and extra light slipovers filled exclusively with ultra light Siberian down that ensures both warmth and comfort.

ISETAN MEN’S X THE INOUE BROTHERS FOR BLACK ALPACA

The word ‘ethical’ was probably first heard in the world of fashion sometime in the last decade, yet there is a man who has devoted himself to establishing an ethical and sustainable production system in the Peruvian Andes for over thirty years. His name is Alonso Burgos, the founder and head of Pacomarca Sustainable Alpaca Network.

Alonso’s work has been entirely aimed at promoting and protecting the cultural heritage and mode of life of Peruvian people, whose main sources of income have been the skin and wool from domesticated alpacas or llamas, wild vicunas or guanaco since the days

of the Inca Empire. In the 70’s white alpacas came to be preferably raised by farmers and became all the fashion in that their fleece could easily be dyed in all colours. As a result, the original colours of alpaca were reduced from 36 to 28. In addition, alpaca wool became poorer in quality, seriously impairing the living standards of rural families. In order to overcome such difficulties Alonso founded Pacomarca and closely cooperated with farmers by organizing training courses and supplying them with the necessary instruments to improve the quality of alpaca and spread it worldwide.

The Inoue Brothers is an art studio which was founded in 2004 by Satoru and Kiyoshi Inoue, two Japanese brothers born and raised in Denmark. The aim of the brand is to create an awareness in responsible production methods through quality and design in every project. The extensive travels in the Andes they have had since 2006 in search of the very best quality of alpaca, have inevitably brought them in touch with Pacomarca. Alonso was struck at their ambitious search and they agreed to start up a Pacomarca project aimed at breeding pedigree alpacas.

Among other things the project focused on raising black alpacas currently making up only 0.01 per cent of the whole population of alpacas. The quantity of fiber from one black alpaca is enough only for two sweaters, and shearing occurs once or twice at most every two years. Although this business can’t be said to be profitable, the natural colour of black alpaca has a smoothness and a sheen that reminds us of its great value.

Following the project, farmers took to raising black alpaca and have over the years created the very best alpaca wool ever.

The dreams and hopes of all the people involved in the project were

made to come true. The shade of black of black alpaca products is very gentle because it is an expression of the Peruvian people’s warmheartedness.

エシカルという言葉がファッション界にも聞か れるようになったのは、 ここ十年位の事だろう。 だが、標高4000メートルのペルー・アンデス の地には、30年以上も前からエシカルでサス テナブルな仕組みの確立に向け、黙々と取り 組んできた人物がいる。パコマルカ研究所の 創設者で現所長のアロンゾ・ブルゴスである。 彼は、インカ帝国の時代から続く、家畜のアル パカやラマ、野生のビクーナやグアナコの皮革 や繊維を主な収入源として暮らしてきた先住 民の民族文化と生活様式の保護と継承に、あ らゆる側面から尽力してきた。1970年代にカ ラフルに染めたアルパカが大流行した頃、染 色に適した白いアルパカが重宝され、飼育農 家が白いアルパカを好んで飼育した結果、本 来36色あったアルパカの自然色は28色にまで 減少。その上、アルパカ繊維の品質低下も加わ

The spring and summer of 2017 should be spent in Europe, a piece of advice particularly suitable for those who wish to dive into up-to-date, hyper modern contemporary art.

The synergic creation of exhibitions in 2017 has led to a unique convergence of events and ideas that seldom occurs. In fact, the three most prestigious contemporary art exhibitions in Europe are now proposing simultaneously the results of reflections and ideas that have occasioned them.

Venice has opened to visitors the 57th Esposizione Internazionale d’Arte – Venice Biennale; Athens and Kassel host dOCUMENTA 14 and Munster presents Skulptur Projekte Munster.

2017 is definitely the year for the XXI century Grand Tour.

THE 57TH ESPOSIZIONE INTERNAZIONALE D’ARTE Curated by Christina Macel, artistic director of ‘ Centre Pompidou’ – Paris, and chaired by Paolo Baratta, the 2017 Biennale d’Arte bears the name of VIVA ARTE VIVA. It is focused on the social and political commitment of artists whose responsibility consists in representing the World’s life conditions for their fellow-men. Starting from a sentence of Albert Camus, a famous fellow countryman of the curator’s: “if the world were in good health, there would be no reason for art to exist”, Christina Macel aims to explain the unrest of today’s world by exhibiting in Venice the works of artists from the Middle East, Russia, Eastern Europe and South America. In fact, she believes that artists can sense at best which way the world, with its uncertain boundaries, populations and individualism, is moving, therefore it is an artist’s responsibility to tell and interpret all that happens on our planet.

The 2017 Biennale d’Arte consists of nine chapters or “families of artists”, as the curator defines them, subdivided between the Central Stand at the Giardini (Gardens), the Arsenale (Ar-

senal) and the Giardino delle Vergini (Garden of the Virgins).

These are international stands in that they host artists from all over the world dealing with the same theme. The themes can be inferred from the titles of the chapters: Padiglione degli Artisti e dei Libri (Stand of the Artists and Books); Padiglione delle Gioie e delle Paure (Stand of the Joys and Fears); Padiglione dello Spazio Comune (Stand of the Common Space); Padiglione della Terra (Stand of the Earth); Padiglione delle Tradizioni (Stand of the Traditions); Padiglione degli Sciamani (Stand of the Shamans); Padiglione Dionisiaco (Dionysian Stand); Padiglione dei Colori (Stand of Colors); Padiglione del Tempo e dell’Infinito (Stand of Time and the Infinite) involving 120 artists from 51 countries.

The Biennale is also enriched with the National Participations located between the Arsenal Gardens and Venice city centre, and with collateral events proposed by agencies and international institutions whose initiatives and exhibitions are simultaneous with the 57th ‘Esposizione ‘

SCULPTURE PROJECTS “Out of Body, Out of Time, Out of Place” is this year the title of one of the most important public art exhibitions. The exhibition takes place every ten years and is devoted to sculpture projects which best represent the changes in public spaces. The event involves the whole of the small German town Munster not only with sculptures, but also with installations and contributions, or rather performances that merge dancing, acting, the visual arts, sculpture and literature.

Curated by Kasper Konig, this year’s exhibition is devoted to the public-private relationship in the age of digital media, and includes performances and acoustic works.

Political analysis is further carried on in Germany and Greece. The German exhibition, which takes place every five years, proposes this year analyses ranging from the problem of immigrants to the effects of climate changes. For the first time in its 60-year history the German exhibition leaves lovely Kassel and moves to Athens, Greece, in compliance with its title: Learning from Athens.

The artistic director of the exhibition, Adam Szymcyk, and the 18 curators in his team have chosen to study the political and financial tensions between the north and south of Europe by developing a geographical representation of both physical and virtual areas and sites. The tenets of dOCUMENTA 14 are well illustrated by Paul B. Preciado’s work The Parliament of Bodies which reproduces a parliament of people to emphasize a deeply shared European identity.

Parthenon of Books, by the Argentinian artist Marta Minujin, proposes likewise a reproduction of the Parthenon through forbidden books placed on the Index in European history.

The Venice stand displays the city’s high-quality craftwork which, far from being the contribution from a lesser art, proudly claims to retrace our origins, the source of an artistic magic that through beauty has disclosed the meaning of life to the whole world.

Over the centuries Venice has charmed the world with the image it has been given by an endless, aesthetically valuable artistic production. Far from being an artisan market, the Venice Stand in the 2017 Biennial houses an art exhibition in which the works of present-day artists are displayed with those of other artists, the master craftsmen of modern firms that have devoted their skills to the creation of luxury items and whose activity is rooted in tradition. In fact, Luxury is the theme of an exhibition which couldn’t but be labeled Luxus. As visitors walk about the exhibition premises they enjoy images of past and present art: from glassware to mosaics, from fabrics to jewellery, footwear, chinaware, silverware and Istrian stone items.

On the lawn facing the entrance to the Stand an imposing stone sculpture by Orsoni, lined with goldfoiled mosaic makes visitors aware of the new, peculiar features of this exhibition. In the Stand entrance hall, the lion of St Mark – a loan from The Correr Museum – welcomes visitors with another winged

lion from Antonia Sautter’s atelier.

Each room in the stand is defined by a caption in Venetian dialect. The first, labeled “In Botega” (In the Workshop), contains the tools and raw materials to be transformed by the craftsmen’s skill.

From the “Botega”, past an elegant drapery by Rubelli, visitors find their way to the second room: “E man che lavora” (Working Hands). A large screen features a film made by director Cesare Cicardini whose captivating images show how manual work transforms matter into precious works of art. The same room displays an original installation of bottles, “The Gold of Venice”, containing the wine from an ancient vineyard in the isle of Mazzorbo, “Venissa”, now brought back to new life.

From this room, beyond a red curtain obtained by courtesy of La Fenice- Venice, visitors are admitted to the hall devoted to “Il gran baeo” (The Grand Ball), where a device enables them to listen to Waltz n. 2 by Dimitry Shostakovich that they can perform following the numbers of the dance steps on the floor.

From the ceiling a superb chandelier by Barovier and Toso casts its light over two great pictures by the artist-photographer Maurizio Galimberti arranged in front of each other. Near the pictures some Eighteenth Century costumes: the silk dress Andrienne and five silk-embroidered satin long sleeved waistcoats obtained for the exhibition by courtesy of Venice Fondazione Musei Civici.

From the ball room past a large red screen, a loan from La Fenice, visitors get “Nel Cuor de Venexia” “In the Heart of Venice” where a suggestive film by Cesare Cicardini is projected onto a screen to illustrate Venetian sensuality, beauty and eroticism to the accompaniment of “Life”, a fitting musical composition by ludovico Einaudi. Next to the screen is on show René Caovilla’s footwear, with interesting creations whose vamps reproduce the images from St Mark’s mosaics and from other important Venetian works of art.

Visitors are now at “La Porta d’Oriente” (The Door to the Orient), an imposing structure built by Cristalexe which conjures up cultural suggestions from Venice’s long relationships with a far-off world. The room is rich with images, sounds and objects that

bring back to life the emotions from an extraordinary relationship between civilizations: tapestries from the firm Luigi Bevilacqua and a still working, old loom, fabrics, plaits of colored silk on the back of a big silver-colored elephant, a gift from La Fenice.

An Istrian stone capital carved by Jacopo Giusto, perfumes with an original Merchant of Venice map accounting for their widespread use in Europe and in the Far East. Here are the protagonists of a fanciful phantasmagoria at once artisanal, aesthetic and sensorial that conjures up the “far-off world”, with an imposing lamp that stands out and evokes Aladin’s one, next to two big vases containing stylized glass flowers by Abate Zanetti with the overhanging colourful flying carpet by Rubelli.

In the last room, “Lux, Luxus, Luxuria”, on a precious cloth covering a table a display of ancient pieces of Geminiano Cozzi chinaware, Zafferano glasses and Zaramella silverware.

“Luxus”, the title of the exhibition, is in fact a route leading to aesthetic education and to a present awareness of the meaning of past things, to find in beauty the deepest sense of our life.

126 示されている。 二つ目の部屋からヴェネチア・フェニーチェ 劇場所蔵の赤いカーテンを抜けた先には、 “Il gran baeo（巨大な球体）”が置かれた ホールへと繋がっている。球体の中で、来 場者はドミートリイ・ショスタコーヴィチの ワルツ第2番を聴きながら床の番号に従っ てダンスステップを踏む事が出来る。 天井からはBarovier and Toso社のきらび やかなシャンデリアが吊るされ、向かい合 わすように展示されている写真芸術家、マ ウリツィオ・ガリンベルティの二枚の大き な写真を照らし出している。写真の近くに は、ヴェネチア・チヴィチ博物館財団所蔵 のAndrienneのシルクドレスとシルク刺繍 が施されたサテンの長袖ベスト5着など18 世紀のコスチュームが展示されている。 球体の部屋からフェニーチェ劇場所蔵の 赤いスクリーンを通り抜け、 “ Nel Cuor de Venexia（ヴェネチアの中心部） ”へと歩を 進める。ここには、チェーザレ・チカルディ ーニ監督によるヴェネチアの官能性、美し さ、そしてエロチシズムを暗示させる映像 が、ルドヴィコ・エイナウディ作曲の ‘ライ フ’ の伴奏に合わせてスクリーンに投影さ れている。スクリーンの隣には、つま革部 分をサンマルコのモザイクやヴェネチアの 貴重な芸術作品をイメージして再制作され たRene Caovilla 社のフットウェアが展示 されている。

VENICE GRAND TOUR The Venetian saying: “If the Ponte della Libertà (The Bridge of Freedom) hadn’t been built, Europe would be an island” emphasizes the sense of greatness that has characterized Venice over the centuries.

Venice is by all accounts a special unique world and its majestic nature is all the more felt in 2017, the year of the Grand Tour of contemporary art exhibitions, since Venice can manage to offer a rich, multi-faceted artistic proposal from May to November including the Biennale d’Arte, the Dance, Theatre and Music festivals but also many other unmissable events.

ETTORE SOTTSASS GLASS

The new appointment at Le Stanze del Vetro, San Giorgio Maggiore Island, a project by Fondazione Giorgio Cini and Pentagram Stiftung, is devoted to a talented artist of glass, Ettore Sottsass, celebrated in the centenary year of his birth.

The curator of the exhibition, Luca Massimo Barbero, has gathered 200 works, mainly from the Ernst Mourmans collection, which illustrate how the great architect managed to go beyond the limits of glass by interweaving it with plastic and polycarbonate.

Curated by Reiner Opoku and Denis Curti and open until September 10th, the exhibition on the unconventional American photographer retraces the creative stages of his hyper reality and enchanted nature.

In addition to this, the exhibition hosts New World, an inquiry into the themes of joy and Paradise, a work that illustrates the author’s idea of alternative reality that unmistakably characterizes his art.

THE GARDEN OF MERCY Marie Malherbe was born in 1975 in Nice (France), and has been living between Vienna and Venice for the last 15 years.

Her work has been selected for the opening of the Photissima Pavillion at the 2015 56th Venice Biennale, and for the 2016 Biennale Internazionale d’Arte Sacra Contemporanea Palermo (BIAS). Throughout that same year, six giant panels of hers have been exhibited on Treviso Cathedral’s columns as a Jubilee installation entitled «The Garden of Mercy». This project, curated by Giovanna Azzola with the technical assistance of Luigi Bertin, was supported by the diocese of Treviso as well as the Municipality. The project then developed into an extended exhibition in the Diocesan Art Museum, directed by Don Luca Vialetto.

Marie Malherbe’s work is about beauty as a divine soul uplifting sign that transforms the world.

Her research on interiority doesn’t exclude a certain theatricality in the form, suitable for the expression of the many dimensions in one’s being. She paints her enchanted world in a poetic style mixing echoes from byzantine and baroque art.

マリー・マレルブは、1975年にフランスの ニースで生まれ、ここ15年間はウィーンと ヴェネチアで暮らしている。 彼女の作品は、2 01 5 年の第5 6回ヴェネ ツィア・ビエンナーレで、フォティシマ・ パビリオンのオープニングに選ばれ、2016 年にはパレルモで開催されたインターナ ショナル・ビエンナーレ現代宗教芸術展 （ Biennale Internazionale d’Arte Sacra Contemporanea（ BI AS））でもオープニ ングを飾った。同じく2016 年に、 “ The Garden of Mercy ” と題された六枚の巨大 パネルが、トレヴィゾ大 聖堂の柱に記 念 祭のインスタレーションとして一年間展示 された。ジョバンナ・アゾーラがルイージ・ ベルタンの技術アシスタントと共に企画 した同プロジェクトは、トレヴィゾ教区と市 当局の支援を受けて実施され、その後、ド ン・ルカ・ヴィアレットのディレクションのも と、Diocesan Art Museumにて長期展示 される事となった。 マリー・マレルブの作品は、世界を変貌さ せる神聖なる魂が高揚する現れとして、美 をテーマにしたものとなっている。 内面性に関する彼女の研究には、ある実 在と架空の中で様々な要素を表現する形 式的なある種の演劇性が含まれている。 彼女は、ビザンチンとバロック芸術を混合し た響きを、詩的スタイルで描き、彼女独自 の世界をより強く表現しているのである。

PASQUALE FRACCALVIERI Matter, moulded and reinterpreted, “shaped, messed up and shaped again”.

Pasquale Fraccalvieri moulds iron, he rolls it up and unrolls it, connects it to plaster layers smoothed with sophisticated skill and creates surfaces which are far from obvious. 物体、それは成形され、再解釈される。 “形作られ、壊されては、再び形作られる。 ” パスクアレ・フラッカルビエリは、鉄を鋳造 する。それを丸めては、また平面に戻す。 優れた技術でそれを滑らかな石膏層に貼 り付け、全く鉄とは思えない別の姿を創り 出す。

WALTER MARIN Among Walter Marin’s many passions painting and music are definitely the most lively and long-lasting, the former seen and realized, the latter listened to and composed, both of them merged in an art work: a painting that plays, musicians who interpret it with the predominance of the Jazz world. ワーテル・マリンが抱える数多くの情熱の 中で、最も活気に満ちていて長く続いている ものは、絵画と音楽である。絵画を見て描 き、音楽を聞いて作曲し、この二つを融合さ せたのが、音楽を奏でる絵画である。ジャズ の世界の影響を色濃く受けたミュージシャ ンがそれを描いたアート作品である。
