NEW PROMOS LAUNCHED

FOR GUILD'S NURSING PROGRAM

Beginning May 1st, Mt. Carmel Guild of Trenton will launch a multi-media marketing campaign aimed at low-income, homebound senior citizens across Mercer County, under its accredited Home Health Nursing Program, providing free, in-home visits from Registered Nurses.

The campaign, slated to last all Summer, will include promotional billboards, shuttle bus panels, brochures, fliers, a local television feature and more, with a view to expanding the Guild’s reach throughout Mercer County.

Under the program, participants must be 60 years or older to qualify and will receive ongoing in-home nursing support not covered by Medicare

In describing the program, Mary Inkrot, Executive Director of Mt. Carmel Guild said it succeeds because care management is also included as part of the approach and not just nursing services

“Our nurses routinely check for signs of elder abuse, food insecurity, and safety hazards They are in frequent communication with each patient and often coordinate with doctor’s offices, case managers, pharmacies, and families outside of home visits

“Further,” she continued, “ our nurses provide comfort and companionship to those who are lonely and make referrals to other services such as Meals on Wheels and transportation to and from medical appointments ”

She emphasized that “sometimes, individuals are skeptical that our services are completely free of cost, but it is absolutely true.” The Guild’s ability to offer free, in-home nursing care is made possible through the generosity of funders such as the Mercer County Office on Aging and proceeds from its Aging-in-Place Appeal

Virginia and Joseph Wirth began receiving care under the program in August 2022.

Sometimes, individuals are skeptical that our services are completely free of cost, but it is absolutely true.

According to John, “they are sophisticated nurses They know how to go about getting things done. Pharmacies want you to come pick up your drugs, but how are you supposed to do that? You have no car, you can’t drive, you can’t see You need somebody who is willing to help you and they found us one at Mt Carmel Guild They are making sure you have what you need, and they make us feel like we are still alive ”

The mission of Mt. Carmel Guild’s Home Health Nursing Program is to improve the quality of life for patients by increasing their medical stability and safety, so they may age in place independently with grace and dignity

It is accredited by the National Institute for Home Care Accreditation and today maintains a high-quality standard in the provision of service for all patients

6 Start from the Heart

Ways to Serve Your Community

I had a recent discussion with my friend in Jamaica about the attitude of today's youth toward charity and volunteerism. He said most are suffering from an identity crisis and that in the absence of suitable mentors, they engage what he describes as the most primitive feature of human existence; selfishness and insularity.

Such attitudes threaten the potential for harmonious society if ever there was such And so what advice does one give to someone for whom the concept of service seems foreign?

"Start from the heart," is what I always say. It is the stuff from which sincerity comes and resides the discipline and courage to remain committed

These 6 Ways to Serve Your Community are by no means exhaustive in this diverse and everchanging global environment but is a strong step toward living with 'heart' on behalf of millions who need yours today

1. Donate Your Time

Volunteer at places such as local non-profits, schools, homeless shelters or animal shelters You may also participate in civic events and let your voice be heard at meetings held by community legislative bodies

2. Random Acts of Kindness

Lending a helping hand to a neighbor who is juggling handfuls of groceries, to moving a piece of furniture is a generous act that leaves a lasting impression.

3. Support Fundraisers

Finding a cause that you are passionate about can be great motivation for assisting or creating a worthwhile movement

4. Plant a Tree

On average, each person in the U S releases 16 5 tons of carbon dioxide annually, making our carbon footprint one of the highest in the world! Trees produce oxygen which can help reduce pollution, encourage wildlife & wellness

5. Donate Blood

You can help save the life of someone by simply giving a pint of blood at your local blood bank or during bloodmobile visits in your community, school or office.

6.. Help Prevent Littering

Keep garbage on your person until you are able to properly dispose in suitable trash Pick-up trash along the road and encourage others to do so as well

Extra Food for Seniors

A significant portion of the Guild's care receivers are senior citizens, 65 years and older. To help them, the Guild participates in the USDA's Commodity Supplemental Food Program which provides extra food each month. There are income limits to qualify with a single person household needing to have an annual income under $18,954.

"A bonus is that participants may designate a proxy to pick up their food, which is great for our seniors who have challenges with mobility or transportation", shares Mary Inkrot, Executive Director of the Guild.
