I had a recent discussion with my friend in Jamaica about the attitude of today's youth toward charity and volunteerism. He said most are suffering from an identity crisis and that in the absence of suitable mentors, they engage what he describes as the most primitive feature of human existence; selfishness and insularity.

Such attitudes threaten the potential for harmonious society if ever there was such And so what advice does one give to someone for whom the concept of service seems foreign?
"Start from the heart," is what I always say. It is the stuff from which sincerity comes and resides the discipline and courage to remain committed
These 10 Ways to Serve Your Community are by no means exhaustive in this diverse and everchanging global environment but is a strong step toward living with 'heart' on behalf of millions who need yours today
Donate Your Time 1
Volunteer at places such as local nonprofits, schools, homeless shelters or animal shelters You may also participate in civic events and let your voice be heard at meetings held by community legislative bodies
2. Random Acts of Kindness
Lending a helping hand to a neighbor who is juggling handfuls of groceries, to moving a piece of furniture is a generous act that leaves a lasting impression.
3. Support Fundraisers
Finding a cause that you are passionate about can be great motivation for assisting or creating a worthwhile movement
4. Plant a Tree
On average, each person in the US releases 16 5 tons of carbon dioxide annually, making our carbon footprint one of the highest in the world! Trees produce oxygen which can help reduce pollution, encourage wildlife & wellness

Donate Blood
You can help save the life of someone by simply giving a pint of blood at your local blood bank or during bloodmobile visits in your community, school or office.
6.. Help Prevent Littering
Keep garbage on your person until you are able to properly dispose in suitable trash Pick-up trash along the road and encourage others to do so as well
