The Year of “Anti Sanctions”. What has been Achieved? Almost a year has passed since the introduction of the ban on meat imports from abroad. Not so long ago, Russian Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat) issued a formal report in which the growth of meat output in Russian territory could be seen.

ompared with the first half of the last year, meat production and offals from slaughtered animals increased by 13.2% and exceeded 1 million tonnes from January to June 2015. Poultry meat became a leader in terms of production growth: agricultural organizations in the country released 2.1 million tonnes in carcass weight (2.85 million tonnes in live weight) for six months, which exceeded the same period last year by 11.4%. The volume of pork production reached 1.29 million tonnes in carcass weight (1.76 million tonnes in live weight) — 3.5% or 43 thousand tonnes more than 2014. However, beef production continued to decline reaching 616.8 thousand tonnes in carcass weight (1082.1 thousand tonnes in live weight) from January to June 2015, which is 1.1% or by 6.7 thousand tonnes less than the first half of the last year. At the same time, there has been a significant reduction in meat imports since the beginning of the year 2015. 28

THE FINANCIAL SITUATION AND THE STATE OF THE ECONOMY

The Ministry of Agriculture reported that imports of poultry meat had decreased by 3.9 times, pork by 1.9 times, beef by 35.1%. Such a strong decline is attributable not only to the ruble devaluation and declining of consumer expenses, but also because the fallen in price rouble has given new competitive advantages of domestic meat processing industry.

According to a survey conducted by the Institute of Public Opinion called “Anketolog” in July 2015, there was a noticeable increase in the number of people who reported a deterioration of their financial position over the last 12 months and these respondents became 15% more in July 2014.
