‘IF MUSIC BE THE FOOD OF LOVE, PLAY ON’ – WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE

Musical Extravaganza by Mr Duncan Millward Last Friday evening, over 200 children took part in the 2018 Tri-Section Music Concert. The concert was a huge success! This year after much lobbying and hard work behind the scenes, we managed to have the opportunity to perform at the Taiwan Traditional Theatre Centre, across the road at the Xiqu Centre. As well as many hours of practice and preparation, under the tutelage of Mrs Edith Kao, Mrs Patricia Lin and Ms Hilary Trehern, and Ms Fiona Kao, the children completed a whole host of performances. During the day there was an opportunity for other classes in the school to watch the dress rehearsal. Classes went across and had the full experience of part of the show, taking their ticket across, seating in the auditorium and then being amazed by the quality of the music groups. The evening performance was the pièce de résistance, with a sell out crowd of 240 parents and VIP guests. As parents entered the theatre several groups provided the preconcert music, before guests were invited into the auditorium. The Year 6 Woodwind group, Year 5 Chamber Strings, Year 6 Chamber Strings and French Section Chamber Strings, all played beautifully to warm the audience up in the entrance way.

A full auditorium welcomed a whole host of talented musicians and vocalists. Over 200 students were involved, and to have the space provided in the Taiwan Traditional Theatre Centre made the experience a magical one for both the audience and performers. The Lower Primary Choir started the evening performance, followed by the Flute Ensemble. The Harp Ensemble and Upper Primary performed together three songs that included soloists too. The Harp Ensemble, Jazz Band and Beginner Band rounded of the first half of the performance with a rousing performance. After the intermission the performance concluded with five pieces from the EPC Orchestra. It was amazing to see such a range of instruments from percussion, wind, brass and string instruments. The talented children showed their wide range of talents and fantastic musical ability. There have been some memorable events this year, and the TriSection music event is definitely up there as one of the best. A big thank you to all of the parents for their support on the night and the encouragement to the children. Thank you also to the teachers and staff that gave up so much time during the day and on the evening of the performance.

Nursery End of Year Show – ‘Our Journey to Wonderland’ by Mrs Jennie Bonnie On Friday, the Nursery children held their End of Year Show. The show was focused around their ‘Sense of Wonder’. This was inspired by the children’s great imaginations we have seen developing over the year. There were ‘Giants’, ‘Pirates’, ‘Princesses and Princes’ and ‘Jack ‘Jack-in-the Boxes’a-plenty. plenty. It was a fantastic representation of how far the children have developed over ver the course of the year. Their confidence,

Year 5 Fire and Rescue and Earthquake Simulator Visit by Mrs Jennifer Larid This term, Year 5 have been studying The Active Planet which has allowed them to discover more about the structure of the Earth and why its movement causes earthquakes, tsunamiss and volcanoes. As part of their learning, they were pleased to welcome the Taiwan Fire and Rescue Department who spoke to them about how to stay safe during an earthquake. They also brought a mobile earthquake simulator which allowed the children to experience an earthquake measuring 8 on the Richter scale. It was very strange to feel the Earth shake in the playground but we now feel confident that we will all be able to react quickly and properly in the case of an emergency.
