A Great Start!

by Mr Luke Chaeter

CONTENT OF THIS WEEK

Cover Story: ~ Welcome Back

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Page 2: ~ Up-coming Up Events

I would like to begin by again saying how impressed I have been walking around the school seeing all the students hard at work and enjoying their learning. It has also been incredible to be greeted by so many 'good morning’ and 'good afternoons', the British Primary Section truly is a friendly learning environment.

Page 3: ~ Messages from Mr Luke Chaeter

During this week, students have been continuing to work on the introductory topic of 'All ' About Me'' and it has been interesting to find out about the different talent talents of the children throughout the school. It is important that we celebrate the diversity of both our student and teaching body, a strength of the school, further driving home the message that we are a global community, a skill set which every citizen needss to experience in order to be fully prepared for our every changing and challenging world!

Page 5: ~ New Staffs and New Positions

On Thursday, it was a pleasure meeting many of you in our Curriculum Evening Event, an important time and place to share the vision of learning with our parent comm community. For all schools to be a success, we need to embrace close relationships with our community, which will enhance the opportunity of success for our children. Finally, I would like to thank the PTA for Fridays introductory presentation, a further indi indicator of the support which the parent body give our school!

Best wishes, Luke Chaeter Head of British Primary Section

Messages from Mr Luke Chaeter Bus Updates I would like to thank all the community for your support and patience regarding the bus service. It now seems to be working efficiently, but we will continue to keep a close eye and monitor the situation.

Parent Teacher Consultations

ECAs As always, the ECA's have been extremely popular, culminating in further interest on Monday morning to ensure students are enrolled in various activities.

A reminder that the online booking system for the first Parent Teacher Consultations will go live on Monday 2nd September at 06:00 in order for you to book a 10 minute touch base session with your child's teacher. The system will automatically close for bookings on Monday ay 9th of September at midday. This is a perfect opportunity for parents to touch base with teachers to ensure the start of the new academic year has gone well, and pose any questions. Consultations will take place on Wednesday 11th September between 3.10 pm - 7.30 pm.. You will receive detailed instructions of how to access this system today from Jessie Wu.

I would like to further remind all, that ECA's will not start until the week beginning Monday 9th September,, as we want to ensure that the bus service is fully operational to support the clubs. Thank you for your understanding.

Safeguarding Morning Drop Off – Traffic Issue We have noticed that at morning ning drop off, a large amount of cars are parked for a long period of time, curbside near the main entrance to the school. This is causing an unnecessary safety issue for students entering our school. Please be aware that this is being monitored, and local al traffic police have been informed. If dropping your children off, please do this as efficiently as possible. If you want to walk in with your child at the beginning of the day, please ensure that the driver of the vehicle moves off the curb, and circles back for pick-up. Thank you for your understanding, as I know the safety of all children is everybody's priority.

Sun Hats Please ensure that your child brings a hat to school. We are continuing to experience hot temperatures, and this will act as additional protection in periods of sunshine.

I would like to thank all of you for ensuring that you enter the school with your lanyards. As you are aware, we take the safety of all on site very seriously. Please ensure that this is visible on campus at all times.

Enterovirus Unfortunately this week, we had to close a classroom due to enterovirus which at this time of year is relatively common in schools. To reassure you, all our facilities are deep cleaned, as the wellbeing of all our students is of the highest priority.

All About Me The Children of Class B5.2 After a long, fabulous summer break, we pupils were eager to continue our journey through T.E.S. The first day back felt amazing because we were reunited with our old friends and met our new teacher. Filled with anxiety, we stepped into the class but we shouldn’t ouldn’t have been worried as the first week went incredibly well. This year, we are looking forward to succeeding in maths, Chinese and chemistry, a lot of field trips (including Camp Taiwan) and learning all about Ancient Greece. We hope your child enjoyed ed the first week of school as much as we did!

Mrs Rebekah Massey My first two weeks at TES have been filled with happy faces and lots of learning. I was left in awe at the fantastic resources and space during my first tour of the school and I can now confidently find my way around. Everyone has been super helpful and my students have a wonderful attitude towards their learning, during our first week together we learnt a lot about each other and nd created wonderful work to be displayed in our classroom. Their ICT skills have been outstanding. I am really excited about the year ahead and the learning my students and I will do together!

Mr Greig Richardson Staff, students and parents have been so welcoming over the past 2 weeks, and it really feels great to be back at TES! I forgot just how kind and helpful the school community is when you first arrive and it has helped reassure me that returning to Taiwan an was the right decision! Also, it has been a very active reintroduction to life in Taiwan with a huge earthquake and 2 typhoons in my first 3 weeks. Perhaps another sign it's going to be a very exciting year? The first three weeks have been very VERY bu busy, but many essential jobs have been ticked off: set-up set my new classroom, met my amazing Year 5 class and had a great first week, found an apartment, ate beef noodle soup, collected my dogs from quarantine, and managed to play a few games of football. I'm really looking forward to the year ahead at TES!

The Importance of Hand Hand-washing by Mrs Jennie Bonnalie At TES we value the importance of washing hands. When children first start school here we help them to learn why it is important and the process. This simple preventive measure helps to reducee the spread of germs, infection and common illness. We spend time educating the children on how to wash hands and include it in our routines so that it becomes the norm. We also have a pictorial guide on the wall so that children can be reminded of the me method.

Taipei Tourism Board by Mr Aidan Stallwood As the year begins we are excited to continue preparing for the many opportunities children can participate in within the local community. One such event that has proven to be a big success is our involvement in the Taipei Lantern Festival. Last week we met with the tourism board to confirm our involvement again ain this year, where we aim to produce an even bigger and better piece to showcase the children's talents. It was lovely to meet with the Tourism development division, who have also extended the chance to join our events too which we will consider for the future. Further details for this year Taipei Lantern Festival will be shared later this year.

Parent Information Evening by Mr Aidan Stallwood

Thank you to all of the parents that came last night to the Curriculum Information Evening. It is fabulous to see parents taking an interest in the curriculum and the opportunities we are creating for your children. Each year group shared the routines, curriculum riculum and a little bit about the staff, and then in the amphitheatre was an opportunity to get to know the specialists and their curriculum in a little more detail. We have such passionate staff who are keen to involve parents in the learning as we know the partnership between home and school is so important. Thank you also to one of our Parent Teacher Council representatives, Mrs Emily Rodgers, who was able to share some valuable tips on Expat parenting abroad. Please find below a link to all of the presentations esentations that were shared last night.
