If a quaint town with historical significance is where you want to call home, look no further than Fort Erie.
Sitting along the banks of the Niagara River directly across from Buffalo, New York, Fort Erie is the perfect place to get away from it allwithout being very far from it all.
The town is known for its namesake historic fort, which dates back to 1764 and played a prominent role in the War of 1812. But there’s so much more to see and do, including hitting the beautiful Crystal Beach (aka Bay Beach) and enjoying a delicious meal at one of the many locally owned restaurants nearby.
Fort Erie is perfectly located just minutes from Buffalo and less than half an hour from downtown Niagara Falls and Welland. And with easy access to the QEW, you can be in Hamilton or downtown Toronto in less than 90 minutes for a night on the town. It’s the perfect location to call home, situated on the shore of Lake Erie in the heart of the beautiful Niagara countryside.

Outdoorsy types will love exploring Fort Erie’s picturesque parks and conservation areas, providing nature at its finest!
PARKS AND TRAILS
There are over 30 parks to discover spanning over 120 hectares of parkland. Sugarbowl Park offers manicured lawns and gardens, walking trails, a dog park, playground, and even a pond.
Nearby Windmill Point Park has something for everyone - including swimming, volleyball, picnics, and camping. Ferndale Park offers a variety of family-friendly amenities including a playground, splash pad, pavilion, and soccer fields.
Fort Erie has 45 kilometres of recreation and nature trails including the Friendship Trail a multi-use recreational path connecting Fort Erie to Port Colborne, which offers easy access to numerous sandy beaches on the shores of Lake Erie. A large portion of the trail was built on an old rail line, making it accessible to bikes, strollers, and wheelchairs.
For those wanting to soak up the summer sun, there are several options nearby. Crystal Beach (aka Bay Beach) has a vast sandy area with beautiful clear water. With its inviting atmosphere and breathtaking views, Crystal Beach is a must-visit summer destination. Another option for soaking up the warm summer sun is Crescent Beach, located just off of the Friendship Recreation Trail. Featuring 66 feet of intimate beachfront, it’s perfect for spending the day with family.
CONSERVATION AREAS
The region has some beautiful public conservation areas that are dedicated to conservation and preservation. Including, the Stevensville Conservation Area where you can experience a forest, meandering Black Creek, wetlands, a fishing pond, and an open picnic area.
CYCLING
Fort Erie is a cycling dram with 74 routes to choose from! Flat, hilly, uphill, downhill, quick rides and long tours, Fort Erie has a wide variety to explore. This includes The Fort Erie Loop a 60-km loop that heads west from the Niagara River and reaches to Lake Erie.
OUTDOOR EVENTS
Music lovers will want to head to Crystal Beach (aka Bay Beach) for the free summer Waterfront Park Concerts. Bring a chair or blanket and enjoy a musical evening on the lakefront and grab a bite to eat from food trucks on site.
On the Civic Holiday weekend, you’ll want to head to nearby Port Colburne for the Canal Days Marine Heritage Festival. This event showcases the city’s rich maritime heritage, centered around the historic Welland Canal. For four exciting days, enjoy a diverse range of activities, including boat parades, live music performances, arts and crafts exhibitions, delicious food vendors, and interactive experiences for all ages. Visitors can explore the bustling waterfront, take part in interactive workshops, and witness the spectacular fireworks display that illuminates the night sky.






NIAGARA RIVER RECREATION TRAIL
This 56-km trail is a cyclist’s dream, featuring attractions, historic sites, restaurants, and shops along the way. Paralleling the Niagara River, the trail extends from historic Fort Erie through Niagara Falls to end at Fort George in Niagara-on-the-Lake.
RICH IN HISTORY
There are a number of historic communities within the town, such as Bridgeburg, Old Fort Erie, Ridgeway, Stevensville and Crystal Beach (aka Bay Beach). These communities offer a variety of galleries, shops, and eateries and contribute to the town’s vibrancy.


FORT ERIE GOLF CLUB
This par 57 course is beautifully maintained and sure to test the ability of all golfers. It features many challenges and hazards throughout its 18 holes.
POINT ABINO LIGHTHOUSE
For a beautiful outing take a tour of Point Abino Lighthouse. This Canadian treasure was constructed in 1917 and restored in 2011. This National Historic Site sits proudly on the rocky north shore of Lake Erie.

You can shop till you drop in Fort Erie! There are plenty of options for a day out shopping from malls and plazas to unique specialty and gift shops. In downtown Fort Erie, you’ll find the vibrant Bridgeburg Historic District overlooking the Niagara River. It’s home to over 100 businesses and the perfect place to spend an afternoon browsing shops and grabbing a coffee or cold beverage at a cute cafe. Not far away, you’ll also find major retailers like Walmart, Winners, LCBO, and Sobeys.
BEACHES
If you’re looking to hit the beach for the day, Fort Erie has some beautiful options! Some beaches have swimming and others provide a beautiful waterfront destination for a picnic or walk along the water.
A popular summer destination in the area is Crystal Beach (also known as Bay Beach). Here you can take a swim in the beautiful clear waters of Lake Erie along a vast sandy area. Waverly Beach and Park offers an amazing view of Lake Erie and
lots of green space with plenty of benches and picnic tables to use as well as easy access to the shoreline of Lake Erie. This beach is located along the Friendship Recreation Trail and features fine sand, paved walkways, shady trees and informative boards citing historical significance.
There’s also Crescent Beach, which is a small and intimate 66 foot long sandy beach. It gets its name from the crescent shaped bay in which it’s located. Fort Erie is a great location for water enthusiasts as it’s located at the outlet of Lake Erie into the Niagara River where the lake and river serve as a
playground for numerous personal yachts, sailboats, power boats and watercraft.
MUSEUMS
For the history buff, the Fort Erie Museum Services operates four different museum sites throughout the area: the Fort Erie Historical Museum, Fort Erie Railway Museum, Battle of Ridgeway Heritage Park, and Mewinzha: First Nations Gallery. The Historical museum is housed in the 1874 Bertie Township Hall and features a program of permanent and changing exhibitions as well as a public archives with genealogy and local history information.

FITNESS AND RECREATION
Fort Erie provides different fitness and recreation options for all. There is the EJ Freeland Community Centre which features a fitness facility, aquatic centre and child care. The Leisureplex Complex recreation centre has something for everyone! It has ice rentals (September - April) and floor rentals available for ball hockey and lacrosse (May - August). The complex also has a 1/7th mile walking track around the perimeter of the Kinsmen ice pad. Throughout the town you’ll also find many splashpads and sports fields. It also has The Fort Erie Skate Park that boasts both a traditional bowl and a street course.

GOLF
If you’re in the mood to hit the green, there are 27 golf courses in or near Fort Erie to discover. Fort Erie Golf Club offers a challenging course with fast greens and numerous sand traps and water hazards. You’ll also find Bridgewater Country Club and Cherry Hill Club in the area, both with beautiful courses and great clubhouse food.
SPORTS AND ENTERTAINMENT
There is no shortage of sports and entertainment options in the Fort Erie area. The Fort Erie Racetrack hosts live horse racing, plus special summer concerts and events like wiener dog races.

Located just minutes away in Buffalo, NY, is the KeyBank Center, a popular destination for residents on both sides of the border. In addition to big name concerts and events, the Keybank Centre is also home to NHL games with the Buffalo Sabres, and NLL lacrosse games with the Buffalo Bandits In the summer months you’ll want to head to Sahlen Field to catch a Buffalo Bisons baseball game.
For the Broadway enthusiast, you’ll want to visit the historic Shea’s Performing Arts Center, in Buffalo, for touring Broadway musicals and special events.

GET YOUR FOODIE ON
Hungry? Take your pick from the huge variety of restaurants dotting the town! You’ll find everything from a romantic dinner by the lake to delicious roadhouse fare. Explore the tastes of many different ethnic cuisines such as Italian, Chinese, and Greek.
If you’re craving pizza and a great atmosphere, there’s hardly a better choice than San Vito’s Italian Bistro & Bar. And, if a day at the beach has you craving tacos and tequila, head to Casa Hugo for authentic food and a unique selection of tequilas to enjoy (responsibly, of course!).
