Australia has been front and centre on the international motorsport stage in 2025, with home-grown competitors competing at the highest level all over the world, while world-class events on home soil build global appeal.

Importantly, grassroots participation continues to play an invaluable role in the growth and development of our sport across every state and territory.

Motorsport Australia will enter 2026 with a community of 22,395 licenced members and 543 affiliated clubs, powered by 12,429 volunteer officials.

In 2025 alone, just under 3,000 motorsport events were held from circuit racing to auto test and social events where community members could gather in their shared love of motorsport.

The 2025 season began with the Motorsport Australia National Awards Gala which acknowledged the sport’s champions and life-long achievements within the sport.

In March, the 2025 Formula One Australian Grand Prix was run and won by McLaren’s Lando Norris to begin his World Championship winning season in wet and trying conditions.

Australia’s Oscar Piastri finished the race in ninth.

Walkinshaw Andretti United’s Chaz Mostert, who navigated a complex and inaugural Supercars Championship Finals Series, claimed his first career Supercars Championship following intense racing at the bp Adelaide 500 Grand Final.

Representation continued at the FIA’s Annual General Assemblies in Tashkent, Uzbekistan with Motorsport Australia President Andrew Fraser appointed to the World Motor sport Council, and jurist Peter Davis to hold a seat on the FIA International Court of Appeals. Both will remain in their elected positions for at least the next four years.

The FIA awards night officially recognised season champions, including Oscar Piastri alongside his McLaren teammates, and Molly Taylor who was recognised for her Extreme H World Cup win.

Piastri, who built together the best year of his motorsport career, remained in contention for the World Drivers’ Championship until the final race of the season. The Melbourne-raised driver finished second in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix with the result seeding him third for the 2025 Formula One season, behind Norris and Dutch driver Max Verstappen.

Alana Gurney was announced as the 2025 FIA Girls on Track Junior Rising Star winner following a weeklong camp in Italy, and Taylor Gill, alongside Aussie navigator Daniel Brkic, finished second in the 2025 Junior World Rally Championship. Australia was also well-represented in the F1 Academy with Aiva Anagnostiadis and Joanne Ciconte carving out their own careers on the world’s most iconic circuits.

In April, Motorsport Australia announced a $1 million financial turnaround following the governing body’s 2024 Annual Report release earlier in the year. The positive result is a testament to strong financial management and strategic cost control. Returning to a surplus position enabled Motorsport Australia to better support members, officials, and competitors from a position of stability.

We close out the year proud of what has been achieved across every level of Australian motorsport.

From grassroots clubs and volunteers to champions on the world stage, 2025 has reinforced the strength of the community that underpins the sport and the momentum driving it forward.

In consultation with the rally and off road communities Motorsport Australia introduced new licence types for a more flexible and affordable pathway to grassroots participation.

The wider community also pauses to acknowledge those members of our motorsport family who we farewelled during the year. Their passion, dedication and contribution to the sport helped shape it into what we love today, and they will be remembered with gratitude and respect.

Motorsport Australia’s National Championship winners were also crowned, with victors awarded in Hill Climb, Supersprint, Motorkhana and Khanacross disciplines.

Elsewhere, Travis Robinson and Paul Currie were crowned 2025 Champions of the BFGoodrich Motorsport Australia Off Road Championship, while New Zealand’s Hayden Paddon and John Kennard won the EROAD Australian Rally Championship in Tasmania.

With participation strong, pathway to participation increasing and Australia’s influence continuing to expand globally, Motorsport Australia looks ahead to 2026 with confidence, ambition and excitement.

RI H S I N I F PODIUM Piastri finished the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in second aboard his McLaren, behind Red Bull Racing’s Max Verstappen and in front of eventual Drivers’ Champion Lando Norris.

On the season, Piastri’s points total would finish on 410 and third in the title race. Norris would edge outgoing champion Verstappen on 423 and 421 points respectively to claim his first career World Drivers’ Championship.

“I think it’s been a really enjoyable season for both Lando and I, and I’m saying that as the person who is not champion,” Piastri said.

“I’ve learnt plenty of things along the way, I think even in the last three years I’ve learnt things every weekend from what Lando does and it’s nice to know it goes both ways.

“There’s plenty more years to come of intense weekends and tight battles, but ultimately that has made both of us better drivers and in some ways has contributed to the success both of us have had this year.”

The Melbourne-raised driver drove well for the remainder of the race, but ultimately finished behind Verstappen in the race and thus ended Piastri’s chances of a World Drivers’ Championship after a terrific third year with ‘The Papaya’ squad.

Norris congratulated Piastri for his season post-race, which helped McLaren to a second Constructors’ Championship in a row.

“I have to give a congrats to Oscar, he’s driven incredibly, and at some point he is going to get the better of me because he’s an incredible driver,” Norris said.

"THERE’S PLENTY MORE YEARS TO COME OF INTENSE WEEKENDS AND TIGHT BATTLES..."

Starting third on the grid behind Verstappen and Norris following a strong Qualifying session, Piastri passed his teammate on the opening lap in what was a clean start for the 23-year-old Australian.

Piastri, who began the session on the hard compound tyre, trailed Verstappen for the early portions of the race by a couple of seconds, before taking the race lead at the start of lap 25 with the latter coming in for his only pit stop.

Piastri continued to lead into the second half of the race before Verstappen re-took the lead on lap 41. Piastri then came into pit later in the lap to fit a new medium tyre and emerged back on track in second in front of Norris.

“I’ve learned a lot, I’ve enjoyed it a lot, and I have a lot more seasons with him in the future.”

Motorsport Australia President Andrew Fraser praised Piastri for his performance throughout the season, and the lasting impact it will leave on the wider Australian motorsport community.

“Even without the result we were all hoping for, Oscar has shown remarkable professionalism, agility and composure throughout the entire Formula One season,” Fraser said.

“His performance this season has been exceptional, and his time to claim the title of World Champion will come. The rest of the world has seen what he can do in just his third season of Formula 1.

“Australia’s motorsport community is incredibly proud of the way he continues to represent our nation on the world stage.”

Piastri will return to the Formula One grid in Melbourne at the season opening Formula 1 Qatar Airways Australian Grand Prix 2026 with McLaren on 6-8 March at the Albert Park Street Circuit.

HALL OF FAME Oscar Piastri has been honoured with The Don Award at the Sport Australia Hall of Fame Awards Gala Dinner.

Held on 17 November at Crown Palladium in Melbourne, Piastri received the prestigious nod for his achievements in Formula One over the past 12 months.

Piastri, who was represented by his family at the Awards Gala Dinner while he prepares for the Lass Vegas Grand Prix, stated it was a privilege to win the award named after one of Australia’s most legendary sporting figures.

“Everyone in Australia knows exactly what he represented and the legacy he has in Australian sport, so it’s not lost on me how major this award is,” Piastri said.

“It’s always an amazing feeling to represent our country on the world stage and do well for ourselves.

“Thank you to everyone that waves the flag and cheers me on at all the Grand Prix races around the world.

“To be a recipient of The Don Award is a great honour, and I look forward to representing our country for many years to come.”

Piastri has helped McLaren to two Constructors’ Championships in

Motorsport Australia Interim CEO, Nicky Lennon, congratulated Piastri for the accomplishment.

“Oscar’s achievements over the past year have been nothing short of spectacular,” Lennon said.

“His performances in Formula One continue to inspire Australians and showcase the strength of our motorsport talent on the world stage.

2024 and 2025 alongside teammate Lando Norris and finished third overall in the 2025 World Drivers’ Championship standings.

The Don Award, named in recognition of inaugural Hall of Fame Inductee Sir Donald Bradman AC, is considered Australian sport’s highest honour.

In the 2025 season alone, Piastri has won a total of seven Grand Prix, 14 podium finishes, five pole positions and 366 Championship points.

Since its inception, The Don Award has been awarded 32 times prior to Piastri’s recognition.

Motor Racing Australia (MRA) has announced its alignment with Motorsport Australia from 2026.

The MRA series has provided a home for grassroots categories including Super TT, Series X3 NSW, Pulsar Racing Series, Alfa Romeo Racing Series, Clubman Series and Mazda MX5 Cup since 2009.

MRA also boasts two respected marquee endurance races, the Wakefield and Sydney 300s, which have both evolved into popular and prestigious endurance races on the motorsport calendar.

Motorsport Australia General Manager Motorsport Operations, David Stuart, welcomed MRA’s move to work with the governing body, and a shared commitment to delivering quality racing experiences.

“This signals the beginning of an exciting chapter.”

The 2026 MRA season kicks off at Sydney Motorsport Park at the start of February, with further details about the makeup of categories at each round to be announced in the coming weeks.

MRA Director Terry Denovan said the decision to align with Motorsport Australia simplifies processes

for competitors, officials and categories.

“The transition to Motorsport Australia places competitors, officials, and partners within a single national framework for licencing, permits, and event administration,” Denovan said.

“With our calendar evolving, this is a good time to move into the next phase of our growth.”

Through the alignment, MRA competitors will also gain the necessary licence endorsements to race at Mount Panorama, Bathurst. As a result, one of MRA’s core categories Super TT, has been confirmed on the support card for the 2026 Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour.

Following the announcement, competitors and officials event supplementary regulations will reference the Motorsport Australia National Competition Rules and other relevant regulations, while also recognising licencing and accreditation under Motorsport Australia.

TCR Australia will run five rounds in 2026 as part of a partnership with The Bend and WSC Group In 2026, five rounds of the TCR Australia series will run exclusively at Shell V-Power Motorsport Park and Mallala Motorsport Park in South Australia.

Motorsport Australia welcomes the partnership, highlighting the professionalism and high-standard event delivery that The Bend and WSC have historically delivered.

Headlining The Bend’s Championship Series the five-round calendar will see competitors enjoy multiple world-class circuit configurations across both venues.

Motorsport Australia’s General Manager for Motorsport Operations David Stuart praised the teamwork in delivering a world-class platform for TCR Australia.

Sam Shahin, Managing Director of The Bend Motorsport Park, said the agreement reflects the venue’s ongoing commitment to world-class motorsport.

RACHAEL’S MOTORSPORT STORY ON & OFF THE TRACK RACHAEL BROWN HAS BEEN A MEMBER OF THE MOTORSPORT AUSTRALIA TECHNICAL TEAM FOR JUST OVER A YEAR, BUT HER RELATIONSHIP WITH MOTORSPORT HAS EXISTED FOR MUCH LONGER. Introduced to motorsport at the age of six, thanks to her father Andrew and her late-grandfather, Rachael is a passionate competitor within Victoria’s historics community.

Most recently, Brown, now 21, competed at Historic Sandown, as a driver in the Group K class, driving a 1930s Morris Special, made up of Morris Minor parts, as well as Morris 8 mechanical components.

Despite battling with challenging and wet conditions on track, Rachael enjoyed a fun weekend on Sandown’s International Raceway, which was made possible by the friendly and supportive historics community and Motorsport Australia’s officials.

“Everybody’s there to be friendly and enthusiastic about the sport, as well as being helpful and happy to talk about their vehicles and what they’ve done to them,” Brown said.

“It’s just being able to talk with people, interacting with them, and they’re all happy to help no matter what you’re up to or who you are. It’s quite amazing, really.”

In addition to being affiliated with both the Victorian Historic Racing Register and the Vintage Sports Car Club of Victoria, Rachael spends her work week at

From day-to-day, Rachael processes log books and Certificates of Description for any vehicle dated prior to 1992 under the mentorship of Motorsport Historics Technical Executive, Frank Adamson.

Brown outlined she is grateful to be in a unique position where she can understand viewpoints on motorsport as both a staff member of Australia’s governing body of motorsport and as a competitor.

"EVERYBODY’S THERE TO BE FRIENDLY & ENTHUSIASTIC ABOUT THE SPORT, AS WELL AS BEING HELPFUL AND HAPPY TO TALK ABOUT THEIR VEHICLES & WHAT THEY’VE DONE TO THEM"

“I don’t go to many of the other contemporary events, but compared to other events, you can talk to the drivers and the mechanics and just learn a whole lot about the driver and their vehicles and get up close with the vehicle.

“As being a competitor who races probably close to a dozen times a year and working at Motorsport Australia, I understand both sides of the equation so to speak,” Brown said.

“Understanding the rules, the regulations, and how things run out there, in the competitor’s world, it’s important to understand those processes and how to interpret multiple viewpoints.

“You might be able to understand what a fellow competitor is thinking about a certain thing, but also translating that over to the governance side of things is quite unique.”

CALENDAR PROGRAM RELEASED

Motorsport Australia’s mission to inspire and celebrate women in every aspect of motorsport remains firm in 2026 through its industry-leading FIA Girls on Track Program.

With 11 events taking place across the country for both the Inspire and Pathways initiatives, next year’s Girls on Track program will see further collaboration with some of Australia’s biggest motorsport events and most respected teams.

From Thursday 11 December, interested participants were able to register for the first two events on the calendar, starting with Girls on Track - Pathways to take place at the Sydney 500 - the opening round of the 2026 Supercars Championship season - on 20 February.

Pathways events cater to girls and women aged 15–22 years old to explore a future career in motorsport.

These free events offer a behind the scenes look at the industry, helping young women to gain deeper insight into the wide range of career pathways in the sport.

Through immerse workshops and garage tours, participants learn directly from women working in motorsport and build meaningful connections with teams, industry professionals and peers.

In 2026, Pathways events will also take place at Queensland Raceway, MotorMall Wanneroo Raceway, Michelin’s Victorian headquarters, Walkinshaw Andretti United’s base in Clayton, the Adelaide Street Circuit and PremiAir Racing’s Queensland base of operations.

In addition to Narooma, Girls on Track Inspire events are scheduled to take place at Queensland Raceway, Hidden Valley Raceway in the Northern Territory, MotorMall Wanneroo Raceway, Sandown Raceway and Adelaide Street Circuit.

From the seven total Girls on Track Inspire events in 2025, more than 440 registered participants took part in the program.

GURNEY NAMED

RISING STAR Alana Gurney has been announced as the winner of the 2025 FIA Girls on Track – Rising Stars Junior edition, following a highly competitive selection process.

Gurney, 12-years-old and representing Australia, was selected as this year’s Junior Champion by the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA).

“I feel incredibly fortunate to have been selected for the FIA Women In Motorsport (FIAWIM) rising stars camp.

I learnt so much on the program and had the opportunity to meet other likeminded young racers,” Gurney said.

“I’m honoured to have been chosen as the winner and excited for what the future holds. Thank you to the FIA and to everyone involved in running this amazing event.”

Having driven her first go-kart at four-years-old, Alana was racing just a few years later and has made an impressive start to her career, with several podiums in the Australian karting championships.

Gurney was selected as the Rising Stars Junior edition winner due to her exceptional consistency, maturity, and ability to learn fast under pressure both on and off the track.

From these applicants, nine drivers aged 11-14 progressed to the final evaluation camp, where they underwent a series of demanding assessments covering on-track performance, technical understanding, physical preparation and personal development.

“While today we celebrate one official winner, every girl who took part has demonstrated remarkable potential.

They are all winners in our eyes, and we will continue to follow and support them as they progress in our sport.”

The Historic Sports and Racing Car Association (HSRCA) will offer an exciting opportunity for a young woman to compete in Historic Formula Vee racing in 2026.

The initiative, part of the HSRCA’s Young Women in Motor Sport Program, will encourage more young women to try their hand at motorsport competition.

“For far too long, young women have been underrepresented in motor sport, and particularly in historic motor sport,” HSRCA president Wayne Wilson said.

“We are announcing a program to rectify that. Next year we will gift the use of a Historic Formula Vee to an outstanding young woman to use at our three historic race meetings during 2026.”

The HSRCA already acquired a Historic Formula Vee for the

program with the car to be fully prepared and ready to go racing.

ENCOURAGE MORE YOUNG WOMEN TO TRY THEIR HAND AT MOTORSPORT COMPETITION The car will be offered to the successful applicant on a freeuse basis at the HSRCA-run historic race meetings next year at Sydney Motorsport Park and One Raceway, near Goulburn.

While the full details of the HSRCA Young Women in Motor Sport program have yet to be announced, Wilson added it will be open to women over the age of 18 years old who have had previous experience in motorsport.

“Very soon we will be seeking expressions of interest from young women, and an application form will soon be available on our web site,” Wilson added.

NSW’s premier historic sports and racing car club, the HSRCA will host three major Historic racing meetings in NSW in 2026.

The Historic Formula Vee class caters for pre-1986 Formula Vee openwheeler racing cars and has a reputation for fostering future star drivers.

Australia’s Formula Vee graduate list includes names such as John Bowe, Larry Perkins and Cam Waters.

STEPS DOWN FROM LONG-SERVING ROLE A familiar face around the Tyrepower V8 SuperUte Series paddock, Murray Slana has decided to step away from his position as Technical Delegate, a role he has devoted his service to for over a decade.

Slana was farewelled by category managers and officials following the Sandown 500, which also served as the final round of the V8 SuperUte Series.

“I was just taken aback by the recognition and the thanks that I did get from the category, and also from Motorsport Australia, which I had never expected, but I’ve certainly appreciated,” Slana said.

“I’ll hold that close to my heart for a lot of years, it’s been a wonderful experience. I’m going to miss it, I know, but I’m going to watch it on TV as much as I can, and hopefully, in my caravan travelling time, I will try come and visit them as a spectator.”

As part of Slana’s departure, he was presented with a signed Motorsport Australia flag from SuperUtes Race Directors David Stuart, David Mori and James Taylor and was honoured with a Recognition of Service Award at the end of year V8 SuperUtes Awards Night.

Slana first became an official in the 1970s, before making the shift to off road race volunteering, and stepping up to scrutineering for circuit racing events.

After accumulating an abundance of circuit experience, Slana was selected to form part of the V8 Ute Racing Series leadership team as

Technical Commissioner in 2012.

Slana noted the SuperUtes category had undergone an abundance of change over the years, including the revamped series joining Supercars Championship line-up in 2018 where it debuted at the 2018 Adelaide 500 and the return to V8 engines in 2020.

Slana was there for it all, stating the SuperUtes community has stayed a close-knit group over the years.

“I guess departing feels like a sweet and sour dish,” Slana added.

“There’s the sour part - the fact that I’m leaving the category and disconnecting from a lot of colleagues, friends that I have had over many, many years.

The sweet side of it - it’s going to give me time to spend more time with my wife, Liz, where we can start to see what’s on the other side of the horizon, so we can do a little bit of travelling and spend that time together.

“Without a doubt, I will miss it, there’s no qualms about that. I’m also at an age that I believe that it’s time for me to move aside, so I don’t become a roadblock preventing younger people starting to work their way up through the system. The category is in a really good place and it’s heading in an exciting direction.”

V8 SuperUtes Category Manager Filippa Guarna spoke highly of Slana’s impact on the sport, emphasising he would be missed by his peers in future years.

“Murray deserves every accolade you can imagine not just for his longstanding service as Technical Delegate of the Tyrepower V8 SuperUte Series, but no doubt many other series before us and his efforts training the next generation of Technical Delegates to come,” Guarna said.

“His steadfast commitment to the sport, his unmatched technical expertise, and also fair-minded approach to competition has allowed everyone new and experienced to learn and grow under his guidance. That’s why he’s earned the respect of competitors and colleagues alike.

“An incredible man who’s kind, humble and wise, his legacy will continue to guide our series for years to come. We will dearly miss him in the paddock but remain truly grateful for having him part of our paddock for so many years.”

Slana also took the time to thank the SuperUtes team for their support over the years, including Guarna, Board Director Luke Sieders, Technical Manager Wayne Williams, second Board Director Mark Bevan, and the wider executive team.

Australian youngster Dante Vinci has been confirmed as Hillspeed’s first driver signing for the 2026 GB3 Championship, after a strong winter testing program with the squad across the United Kingdom and Europe.

Vinci makes the step up into GB3 after his first full season in cars this year in the Italian F4 Championship and Euro 4 Championship.

The signing comes about from successful test outings in recent weeks with the Markham Vale squad at Silverstone and Snetterton, as well as SpaFrancorchamps in Belgium, Austria’s Red Bull Ring and the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in Spain.

“I’m happy to announce I’ll be competing in the GB3 Championship with Hillspeed in 2026,” Vinci said.

“Winter testing has been super strong, getting to know several new tracks, and I’m ready for this championship to be my next opportunity to fight.

“I’m looking forward to a successful, and fun, season and I’m beyond grateful to share that with Hillspeed.”

Vinci’s single-seater pathway began five years ago when he first entered the world of karting at the age of 12, competing in the KA2 Australian Kart Championship as well as the KA4 Junior category.

In 2023, Vinci made the move onto the global karting stage when he raced in the OK class of the FIA Karting World Championship, and also competed in the WSK Champions Cup.

His car-racing debut came in 2024 during the season finale of the F4 Italian Championship, before then embarking on a Formula Winter Series campaign at the beginning of this year - the fourth highest placed rookie.

“We are absolutely delighted to have signed Dante to race with Hillspeed in GB3 next year, it’s especially pleasing to complete the deal this side of Christmas,” Hillspeed Team Principal Richard Ollerenshaw said.

“Our winter testing programme with him has been incredibly successful, we’ve been impressed with the way Dante has adapted to the current GB3 car and have high hopes for his maiden campaign in GB3.

“With a great family behind him, coupled with the support and driver development the team provides, we can’t wait for the new season.”

Vinci drove in his first full Italian F4 season this year where he was sixth in the Rookie standings with six podiums, including second places at Monza and Mugello.

In his dovetailed Euro 4 campaign, Vinci was fourth in the Rookie standings with three second places and he took a best outright finish of fifth en-route to 11th in the overall Championship.

RECOGNISED ACROSS AORC Two new Cups will be added to the Motorsport Australia Off Road Championship (AORC) for 2026 and beyond, highlighting the successes of women and junior competitors in off road racing.

The AORC, which will enter its 45th year on the Motorsport Australia calendar in 2026, will introduce a Women’s Cup and Junior Cup, adding two new crowns to be won at the end of next year’s 2026 AORC season.

Motorsport Australia Off Road General Manager Campbell Smith stated the addition of the two Cups will add an extra element of competition for two of off road’s most important demographics.

“Introducing the Women’s Cup and Junior Cup is an exciting step forward for the AORC,” Smith said.

“These additions recognise two groups who continue to contribute enormously to our sport, and we’re thrilled to provide new opportunities for them to shine in 2026 and beyond.”

The Junior Cup Championship is designed to continue encouraging junior participation in the AORC and is open to drivers and navigators aged between 16-21.

To be eligible for points, each competitor must be no older than 21 at the commencement of each event.

Once a competitor turns 22, Junior Cup points are no longer awarded to that competitor for the current season. However, it’s possible that the competitor may have scored enough points

during the season to still be eligible for a win or a place in the Junior Cup Championship.

“Our junior competitors are the future of off road racing, and this Cup is designed to encourage their development and reward their commitment,” Smith added.

“We’re seeing remarkable talent emerge in this age group, and this new accolade gives them a clear pathway to grow within the Championship.”

Points will be awarded on outright positions in each event. The fastest woman, either Driver, Navigator or Co-driver, to finish an event will be considered first outright for the event.

“Women competitors play an integral role in off road racing, and the Women’s Cup will highlight their achievements in a prominent way,” Smith said.

“We’re proud to celebrate their impact on the Championship and look forward to watching this Cup inspire even more participation.”

SUPERCARS GRAND FINAL BRINGS SEASON TO A CLOSE Matt Payne took out the bp Adelaide Grand Final to cap off a sublime rookie year for the Kiwi, while a second place finish for Walkinshaw Andretti United (WAU) driver Chaz Mostert secured his maiden Repco Supercars Championship in a thrilling end to the finals series.

Broc Feeney suffered an opening lap clash with Mostert’s teammate Ryan Wood compounded by engine problems, ultimately felled Feeney’s title hopes.

Mostert paced the maiden Supercars Finals Series with three wins, beating out Feeney, reigning champion and Feeney’s teammate Will Brown, and rookie Kai Allen to claim the crown.

It was a long-awaited championship for two-time Bathurst 1000 winner in what was his 13th season.

You read about Senna getting in tunnel vision, that’s what it felt like.”

Feeney got a poor start off the front row, with Payne rocketing off into the distance. Feeney was immediately forced into heavy defence, which ended in Feeney being turned around at turn 6 on the opening lap.

With engine troubles, Feeney chased the field for the remainder of the session, despite his best efforts to climb back.

After leading Mostert by 23 points into Sunday, Feeney fell behind teammate Brown in the standings as the engine issue worsened.

Mostert, meanwhile, clinched his team’s first drivers’ title since Garth Tander in 2007, and will drive for Toyota in 2026 as the defending champion.

“I can’t believe it. I’ve been racing for so many years that you start to doubt it year after year,” Mostert said.

“I’ve driven for some amazing teams, Tickford, here at WAU, and I knew that I could do it, but thank god for the Finals Series hey?

“I think the team did pretty good, they didn’t tell me all the information, they kept me focused, and just keep trying to maintain that gap to Browny, and try and catch Payney.

“That whole last 38 laps was a blur to be honest, it was really weird.

In a seminal moment, Mostert lapped Feeney with nine laps to go.

A spin for Nick Percat at Turn 11 with six laps to go threatened to turn the race on its head, but the driver got going again.

Payne won by 5.977 seconds, with Mostert second, Brown third, Allen fourth and Feeney 20th. Will Davison, James Courtney and Percat finished their final full-time races in 13th, 14th and 22nd respectively.

The 2026 Repco Supercars Championship will commence at the Sydney 500 on 20-22 February.

It was also announced by Supercars Chief Executive Officer James Warburton and South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas the bp Adelaide Grand Final will remain in Adelaide until at least 2034 as part of an extended agreement between Supercars and the South Australian State Government.

The new Trackside Recycling Program has yielded positive results in 2025, with thousands of empty plastic bottles recycled by officials at motorsport events.

“Motorsport Australia is pleased to see the program continue to grow, with more clubs keen to adopt good recycling practices.”

Motorsport Australia, with the support of SpeedSeries and Supercars, has undertaken a new trial program to help recycle plastic water bottles at events.

Participating clubs to date include Queensland Motor Racing Officials Association following both Supercars and SpeedSeries events at Ipswich, Queensland Fire and Rescue following the Townsville 500 and the Victorian Flag Marshalling Team following GT Festival Sandown and the Sandown 500.

Each officials team and event post is issued with purple collection bags, strictly for the recycling of plastic bottles, which are collected from designated pickup points at the end of each event day.

Recyclable bottles are then donated to a designated club or organisation to earn money through their local Container Deposit Scheme.

Motorsport Australia Events Sporting Executive Kimberly Hughes stated the reaction from both the officials cohort and participating clubs and associations has been overwhelmingly positive.

“Officials are the driving force behind this initiative, and their commitment to collecting bottles is what turns recycling into real support for local clubs,” Hughes said.

“It is a simple action making a big difference both trackside and in communities around the country.

The biggest result tallied by a grassroots club was the Bathurst Light Car Club, with officials canvassing Mount Panorama officials’ campsites raising more than $450 by depositing 4,594 bottles.

Hughes added that clubs have begun reaching out to get involved, with education and awareness plans set to increase uptake and efficiency.

“The aim of this initiative was always bigger than the environmental benefits of preventing thousands of bottles from going into landfill, it was also a way to give back to the grassroots community.” .

NEVILLE’S NOTEWORTHY NOD Official Neville Jones is a regular face in the paddock, providing valuable insights and tips to new and experienced officials alike. Jones is also a knowledgeable individual out on track, facilitating memorable experiences for those behind the wheel in some of the country’s elite-level categories.

New South Wales-based official Neville Jones has made an invaluable contribution to the sport over several decades as a volunteer.

Jones frequented both Shannons SpeedSeries and the Repco Supercars Championship events, typically giving a helping hand across an array of roles.

On top of his time spent as a SpeedSeries and Supercars supervisor, Jones is also a flag marshal at Motorsport Australia-permitted track days.

Jones also assists with the officials campgrounds at both The Bend and Mount Panorama when events roll through Tailem Bend and Bathurst.

According to Neville’s nominator, Jones travelled to the majority of the SpeedSeries rounds this year and ran the accreditation centre for the rounds, providing an important service to the event’s senior officials leadership team.

No matter how busy Neville is, he is always ready to give a hand to whatever is required to be done and always up for a chat.

Davey, a member of Australia’s First Nations motorsport initiative, Racing Together, made history as the first Indigenous Australian driver to place in the top three positions in a Motorsport Australia national championship or series, collecting eight podiums during his 2025 campaign.

The award was presented by Sean Hanley, Toyota Australia Vice President Sales, Marketing and Franchise Operations.

“Kade is an outstanding young talent with great potential. The Kaizen Award represents more than just performance and results on track,” Hanley said.

“It’s about the pursuit of continuous improvement in all areas. It also reflects how you conduct yourself and treat others, especially when things don’t go as planned and how you respond to adversity.”

Davey will be Toyota guest at next year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans in France from 10-14 June 2026.

TAYLOR LOCKS IN FORMULA REGIONAL OCEANIA TROPHY SEAT AUSTRALIAN JACK TAYLOR IS AIMING TO CONTINUE HIS RAPID RISE THROUGH THE JUNIOR RANKS AFTER ANNOUNCING HE WILL COMPETE IN NEW ZEALAND’S PREMIER SINGLE SEATER CHAMPIONSHIP FROM THE BEGINNING OF NEXT YEAR. Taylor stated he is looking forward to competing closer to home.

it was a much better option for me than doing winter testing in Europe.

PRODUCTION CARS WILL RUN A FOUR-ROUND CALENDAR IN 2026/2027 UNDER A NEW AGREEMENT MANAGED WITH THE AUSTRALIAN RACING DRIVERS’ CLUB (ARDC).

The four-round calendar will begin at the ARDC’s home circuit, Sydney Motorsport Park in May, before heading to Sandown International Raceway, Queensland Raceway and concludes at the 2027 Bathurst 6-Hour where the Australian Production Car Endurance Series winner will be decided.

Glenn Matthews, CEO of the Australian Racing Drivers’ Club praised the category and the broader motorsport community for their support and enthusiasm.

“Production Car racing holds a special place in Australian motorsport, and bringing this category under the ARDC banner allows us to honour that heritage while building its future,” Matthews said.

“The new four-event 2026/27 Endurance Series strengthens our national presence, supports our strategy to secure marquee events, and drives our desire to deliver exciting, memorable endurance racing for fans, teams and competitors alike."

Motorsport Australia’s General Manager for Motorsport Operations David Stuart praised the ARDC for their leadership and expertise in supporting state level racing across on a national stage.

“Motorsport Australia is proud to partner with the ARDC in delivering competitors both the format and experience that they want,” Stuart said.

“Delivering four enduro rounds that come to a close at the iconic Mount Panorama circuit sets the scene for competitors and fans alike to be part of a world-class motorsport series.”

What’s more, competitors who compete in two rounds of the Australian Production Car Endurance Series will automatically secure a spot on the grid at the coveted Bathurst 6-Hour in 2027.

PETER DAVIS ELEVATED TO FIA INTERNATIONAL COURT OF APPEALS The Federation Internationale de l’Automoblie (FIA), has announced the appointment of The Honourable Justice Peter Davis to its International Court of Appeal (ICA).

The announcement, made at the FIA General Assembly in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, ensures Justice Davis forms part of the governing body’s final appeal tribunal for international motorsport for at least the next four years.

“I am honoured to be appointed to the FIA International Court of Appeal and grateful for the confidence shown by the FIA General Assembly,” Justice Davis said.

“Motorsport operates within a highly-respected international framework, and the independence and integrity of its judicial bodies are fundamental to its credibility.

“Justice Davis’ appointment to the International Court of Appeal is a significant recognition of his legal expertise and standing within international motorsport,” Fraser said.

“His experience, integrity and deep understanding of governance make him exceptionally well suited to this role.”

There are 36 judges to serve on the FIA Jurisdictions, all elected by the FIA General Assembly after being selected by the FIA Nominations Committee upon nomination by the FIA members, FIA Commissions or groups of five competitors in the FIA Championships.

“I look forward to contributing my experience to upholding fair, consistent and principled decision-making across the sport.”

It is not Justice Davis’ first role within the FIA’s judiciary system, after serving several years within the FIA’s Formula One Cost Cap Committee.

Justice Davis has a long and successful career as a Queen’s Counsel and is now a Justice of the Supreme Court of Queensland and President of the Queensland Industrial Court. He is a long-time follower of motorsport and in particular, Formula One. Established under the FIA Statutes and the FIA’s International Sporting Code the ICA resolves disputes brought before it by any of motorsport’s National Sporting Authorities world-wide, or by the President of the FIA. It can also settle non-sporting disputes brought by national motoring organisations affiliated to the FIA. In accordance with good governance principles, the ICA is an independent body with its own administration detached from the main structure of the FIA. Motorsport Australia President Andrew Fraser congratulated Justice Davis on his appointment.

MOLLY TAYLOR ON WORLD STAGE AT FIA AWARDS NIGHT Australian rally and off road competitor Molly Taylor joined the world’s elite motorsport athletes to celebrate her win at this year’s Extreme H World Cup. In attendance at the FIA Awards night in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, alongside Swedish teammate and co-winner Kevin Hansen, Taylor capped off a remarkable year in motorsport, receiving her official trophy for the Extreme H World Cup. The event, the first ever FIAsanctioned hydrogen-powered event, took place over three days of competition in October, featuring 16 of the world’s finest off road racers, representing eight teams.

After winning the inaugural event and making motorsport history in Qiddiya City, Saudi Arabia in the process, Taylor said it was a special moment to be recognised on the world stage in front of her peers.

“To be here in Uzbekistan, representing Australian motorsport and celebrating our achievements with Extreme H is special to me,” Taylor said.

“Winning a world title is every driver’s dream, but to also do it with the world’s first hydrogen motorsport series makes me very proud.

Taylor and Hansen finished second on the opening day of Time Trials before the dynamic duo cemented their charge by winning five Headto-Head races on Friday.

A further triumph followed in the opening Multi-Car Heat rewarded Jameel Motorsport with pole position for the Final.

Hansen opened the final well to get ahead the pack, before Taylor took the chequered flag more than seven seconds clear of the chasing group.

Taylor said the year has been an interesting one, but also confirmed she would be back in 2026 to defend her crown.

“With the majority of it actually spent outside the car putting these projects together, 2025 has been an interesting season,” Taylor added.

“Despite this, it has also included some of my absolute career highlights, competing in Race Of Champions on home soil and winning the FIA Extreme H World Cup. “I think it highlights that although there is often so much uncertainty in motorsport, it is key to remember how important it is to never give up and grab every opportunity you can with both hands. Now the full focus is on retaining our title in 2026.”

Reimagined for 2025 after decades of being awarded to Australia’s champion driver in various eras of single-seater racing, this year’s Gold Star has been awarded via a pointscore and is open to drivers across a range of different categories both locally and internationally.

Broc Feeney hung on to third in the final Gold Star standings for 2025 despite his heartbreaking Supercars Championship loss on the final day of the season.

His eventual third placing, allied to his GT World Challenge Australia crown, gives him a final tally of 65 points.

Chaz Mostert, who dramatically claimed his maiden Supercars title at the Adelaide Grand Final, finished fourth in the Gold Star standings on 60 points.

ALLAN MOFFAT 1 93 9 - 2 02 5 Motorsport Australia joins the wider motorsport community in honouring the life of Australian motorsport legend Allan Moffat OBE.

The Allan Moffat Foundation will continue Moffat’s important work.

Motorsport Australia extend condolences to the Moffat family and all who were inspired by one of the nation’s greatest ever motorsport competitors.

His family and friends encourage fans to support the Foundation so that others living with Alzheimer’s can receive the care, support, resources, and hope they deserve.

An icon, a pioneer, and a four-time Bathurst 1000 Champion, Moffat also won four Australian Touring Car Championships over a 10-year period from 1973 to 1983.

“Allan Moffat leaves behind an extraordinary legacy, not only as a champion driver, but as a respected mentor, advocate, and friend to many,” the statement continued.

Following his driving career, Moffat was inducted into the Supercars Hall of Fame in 1999, the Australian Motor Sport Hall of Fame in 2016, and the Sport Australia Hall of Fame in 2018.

“He will be remembered for his unwavering passion, competitive spirit, and the profound impact he had on motorsport in Australia and around the world.

A statement released by the Moffat family stated that Australia had lost one of its sporting legends.

“It is with deep sadness that the Moffat family announces the passing of Allan Moffat OBE, surrounded by his loved ones, after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease,” the statement read.

“Allan Moffat was not only one of Australia’s most successful and admired motor racing drivers, but a towering figure whose influence shaped the nation’s motorsport identity for more than five decades. Revered for his skill, tenacity, and exceptional professionalism, Moffat’s legacy is etched into Australian sporting history.

Born in Canada and proudly embraced by Australia, Moffat became a dominant force domestically and internationally.”

Moffat also played a pivotal role in the advocacy and awareness of Alzheimer’s and became a Patron of Dementia Australia for his work in supporting families directly affected by the disease.

“The Moffat family asks for privacy during this time as they grieve the loss of their beloved father, grandfather, and friend.”

Motorsport Australia President Andrew Fraser echoed the sentiment Australia had lost one of its most profound motorsport competitors and a legend of the sport.

“Allan Moffat’s passing marks a deeply sad day for Australian motorsport,” Fraser said.

“His impact on the sport is immeasurable, defined not only by his incredible achievements on track, but also by the professionalism and passion he carried throughout his life in his advocacy work.

“Allan inspired future generations of drivers and helped shape the very identity of motorsport in this country.

“We extend our condolences to the Moffat family and all who were touched by his remarkable legacy.”

LYN JOHNSTON 1 9 47 - 2 02 5 Lyn Johnston, a beloved member of the Phillip Island Auto Racing Club (PIARC) and a great friend to many, passed away in November following a short battle with cancer.

Johnston was also the club’s designated Officials Registrar for many years, signing in all at the gate and ensuring they were well looked after both at and between events.

A dedicated member of the club, the PIARC honoured Johnston’s legacy following 60 years of service, described by PIARC Board Member Geoff Bull as “an absolute stalwart”.

Members claimed everyone almost without exception knew Lyn and her valued contributions to any motorsport environment.

“Lyn during that time had done pretty much everything ranging from helping with most social functions, many club events and working as an official at most race meetings since the mid-1960s at The Island, Sandown and many other circuits - particularly Darwin and some years ago at Winton when Kage was racing the famed A30,” Bull noted.

“She and Kage were great life partners raising sons Gregg and David and being a grandma to David’s daughters.

“In addition to lifetime PIARC members, they were avid caravaners travelling the country several times since the boys were young and enjoying retirement.”

“Always happy to be there and help all, she will be sadly missed by members, competitors and her many friends,” Bull added.

“Lyn’s lifetime of service and devotion to the club was rewarded by being presented as the Winston Maguire Clubman of the Year 2014 and the ultimate award in 2023, PIARC Life Membership, which made her the first woman to achieve this honour.

“A life well-lived albeit too short.”

Motorsport Australia and the Committee and Members of PIARC extend sympathies and best wishes to Kage, Gregg and David and Lyn’s immediate family.
