This is The Travel Issue – which locations are top of your travel list? Paris is always on the list as is St Barth’s this year and a winter trip to Courchevel or the newly renovated AMAN, Rosa Alpina. I also want to head to NY and LA this year to see friends and for work.
Where will you be travelling to this summer? Last year was my first trip to Ibiza and I fell in love with it, so I’d love to go back and to be surrounded by some nature and fresh air. I also want to see my Belmond family at the newly renovated Splendido in Portofino.

This is The Travel Issue – which locations are top of your travel list? Japan and Australia are top of the list – absolute dream trips. I’m all about big culture shifts, the buzz of new cities and the calm of wide-open spaces – complete opposites but equally iconic.
Where will you be travelling to this summer? Back to Mallorca to recharge, then off to Bilbao and Galicia for a taste of the north. Northern Spain is underrated and I’m here for it. Sun, sea, and maybe a few too many tapas.

AMINATH IFASA SENIOR REPORTER EMIRATES WOMAN & EMIRATES MAN
This is The Travel Issue – which locations are top of your travel list? Italy remains on top of my Wishlist – a country where La Dolce Vita comes alive through Renaissance architecture, fashion capitals, and culinary artistry. I’d plan an extended journey to properly savour it all: Milan’s design ateliers, Rome’s historic piazzas and legendary pasta bars, the Amalfi Coast’s beachside spa retreats with the sound of waves echoing, and of course, my dream gondola ride along Venice’s Grand Canal. Where will you be travelling to this summer? I’ll probably embrace slow travel this summer with a road trip through Oman’s natural landscapes. While I typically prefer flying, Oman’s coastal highway, winding past Musandam’s breathtaking fjords and ending in Salalah’s monsoon-cooled greenery, makes the journey as rewarding as the destination. It’s the ideal blend of adventure and tranquillity that is a short road trip from Dubai.

What will you be packing?

This is The Travel Issue – which locations are top of your travel list? I’d love to visit Lisbon, Portugal. From its sun-soaked hills and pastel-coloured buildings to the sound of Fado music echoing through narrow streets, the city feels like a dreamy escape. From riding the iconic yellow trams and indulging in way too many pastéis de nata – I’d love to see the golden Lisbon light that everyone speaks volumes about. Where will you be travelling to this summer? As I prepare to be a bride next year, I’d love to potentially travel to a wellness retreat to switch-off and reset. RAKxa in Bangkok looks like the perfect resort to workout, meditate and unwind from the bustle of daily life. With its natural greenery and state-of-the-art equipment, this luxurious escape is exactly what I need.

EMIRATES WOMAN & EMIRATES MAN
This is The Travel Issue – which locations are top of your travel list? There are countries that I have yet to tick off my list including Mexico, Argentina, and Iceland. Recently, I’ve also added Saudi Arabia to the list as it’s the only country I haven’t visited within the GCC and would love to see and explore AlUla. I recently picked up tennis as a hobby and would love to play on clay in one of the scenic courts at Amanruya or Splendido. Where will you be travelling to this summer? No concrete plans as of now, but I would want to go back to Milan or Vienna for some chic city explorations and to get a dose of art and culture.

This is The Travel Issue – which locations are top of your travel list? Portugal, Spain, and a few South American countries are at the top of my list. I love the mix of beautiful architecture, cosy cafés, amazing food and local art.
Where will you be travelling to this summer? While my summer travel plans aren’t fully set in stone, I’m leaning towards going to small town gems. I’m craving a place where the pace slows down –somewhere I can relax by the pool, dive into a few good books, enjoy casual strolls to see local architecture, cafés and take leisurely dips.

This is The Travel Issue – which locations are top of your travel list? Cannes, Lugano, and Lake Como are at the top of my travel list. Cannes is always captivating – with its effortless blend of elegance, seaside charm, and cultural vibrancy, it’s the perfect place to immerse myself in art, film, and French Riviera glamour. Lugano offers a peaceful escape where Swiss precision meets Italian soul – its lakeside beauty and Alpine views make it a serene yet sophisticated destination. And Lake Como, with its timeless romance, historic villas, and calm waters, is simply a dream. Together, these places reflect the kind of travel I love – elegant, inspiring, and deeply rejuvenating. Where will you be travelling to this summer? This summer, I’ll be travelling to a few favourite destinations, but one that’s become a cherished yearly tradition is our family trip to Évian, France. Tucked between the Alps and Lake Geneva, Évian offers the perfect balance of nature, tranquility, and wellness. It’s a peaceful escape where the kids can enjoy the outdoors, and I can unwind in the crisp mountain air. From lakefront walks to fresh local cuisine, it’s a place that feels both grounding and rejuvenating. It’s not just a getaway – it’s a summer ritual that brings us together as a family in the most meaningful way.

This is The Travel Issue – which locations are top of your travel list? Japan and Morocco are currently at the top of my list. I love Japan for its unique blend of tradition and innovation – and Morocco for its colours, culture, and timeless charm. Both inspire me creatively in very different ways. Where will you be travelling to this summer? This summer is a beautiful mix of familiar favourites and new adventures. I’ll be spending time in Bodrum, Egypt, and Lebanon. And for a family escape, we’re still deciding – but it’s likely to be somewhere vibrant and exciting in Asia.

NATASHA OAKLEY FOUNDER – MONDAY SWIMWEAR
This is The Travel Issue – which locations are top of your travel list? Dubai had been at the top of my list before this year. I’d visited when I was younger, but this January was my first time returning, and it was such a special trip. I absolutely loved my time there – it was even more meaningful because we were there with Monday Swimwear to celebrate our launch on Ounass. Next on my list is Africa. I’ve been dreaming of going on safari for as long as I can remember. I’d also love to explore South Africa – it’s been high on my list for years and I hope to make it happen soon. Where will you be travelling to this summer? I’m actually in the middle of my summer travels now. We started our trip in Paris, and I’ve spent the past few weeks in Greece, mixing work and leisure. My husband is Greek and we love coming back each year – this time we’ve had the chance to explore even more of the country. Devin, my best friend and business partner, has been with me the whole time as well, and we’ll be wrapping up this leg of the trip together at the end of our time in Greece. Italy is always calling us back – it’s probably our favourite destination. My husband and I got engaged in Capri three years ago and married there two years ago, so it holds a very special place in our hearts. We’ll be visiting Capri again this year, as well as Ischia and the Amalfi Coast. Usually we’d stay a little longer, but I’m heading back earlier than usual because we’re opening our very first Monday Swimwear store in Beverly Hills in mid-July. It’s such a huge moment for us, and I can’t wait.

This is The Travel Issue – which locations are top of your travel list? This summer is a beautiful blend of business and pleasure. I will gladly take any opportunity to be on the French Riviera or near the Mediterranean.
Where will you be travelling to this summer? Luckily, I’ll be traveling to Cannes, Monaco, and SaintTropez for sun-drenched days, yachting, and powerful conversations during the Cannes Lions Festival. A quick stop in Las Vegas for business meetings and high energy inspiration – and then I will be having some much-needed family time in Mexico City for a family wedding. I am so excited to explore the culture and cuisine Mexico City has to offer and spend quality time with extended family that I do not get to see often. I’ll be wrapping up the season in Marbella, Spain, a destination I’ve never been to but have always dreamed of. I’m so excited to finally experience its vibrant culture, beaches, and Mediterranean charm.

Where will you be travelling to this summer? Probably back to Europe in August – maybe Italy, Switzerland, and a quick stop in the Netherlands to see family. AMINA

– DIMA AYAD
This is The Travel Issue - which locations are top of your travel list? Menorca is my newfound love. I just shot my resort collection there. There’s something about its quiet beaches, empty roads, and the lack of rush that forces you to slow down and just be. It’s where I go to recalibrate and to breathe.
Sahel is chaotic, loud, and alive, but in the best way. It’s freedom in its purest form. It’s where I feel weightless, where summer feels unfiltered, and where I can switch off from the world and just live in the moment.
Beirut – Nothing like it! It’s raw, magnetic, and unforgettable. No city pulls at me like Beirut does. It’s the complexity, the resilience, the heartbreak, and the unmatched hospitality. Beirut doesn’t just give you memories, it leaves a mark on you.
London feels like home. I can slip into its rhythm effortlessly. It feeds me creatively, but also gives me the solitude I crave. It’s a city where I can disappear when I need to or feel deeply connected when I choose to. It holds a familiar comfort I always return to.
Lastly, Bodrum has this perfect duality – it’s chic, but never tries too hard. It gives you long, sundrenched days, spontaneous nights, and a sense of ease that I find addictive. It feels like a place where time doesn’t chase you.
Where will you be travelling to this summer? Menorca, Bodrum, Sahel, and Paris

Capri is also a favourite as it feels like a beautiful three-level island and gives you easy access to other islands, where you can enjoy a different spirit every day, like Positano and Sorrento. Saint-Tropez has the perfect summer energy, and Courchevel gives me the same spirit in winter. I’m also excited to visit Tokyo, its mix of culture and innovation is fascinating. PARADISE FOUND
How creative director Gabriella Khalil translates the Palm Heights aesthetic to H&M Home
WORDS: CAMILLE MACAWILI

Get ready to vacation without leaving your space. Gabriella Khalil, the New York-based creative mind behind Grand Cayman’s cult-favourite beachfront boutique hotel, Palm Heights, has teamed up with H&M Home for a transportive home collection. Think retro stripes and sunny essentials that bring the spirit of the Caribbean straight to your living room. The stylish 23-piece collection evokes the signature design universe and sun-drenched, glamourous spirit of the hotel, with a transporting array of objects that bring holiday vibes into your space. “It’s about a feeling,” Khalil says, describing the ethos behind the design that invites a new way to live with vacation in mind.
Here, Gabriella Khalil and Evelina Kravaev-Söderberg, Head of Design and Creative at H&M Home, share the story behind the collaboration, how the visual DNA of Palm Heights evolved into home decor, for a touch of escapism at home.
interpret it for modern interiors? GK: It was a spirit of what we call the glory days of the Caribbean – moments from that time – and the architecture of the building itself, which lent itself to that era. We wanted to celebrate this moment and hone in on it. Some photography by Slim Aarons, and also Grace Jones, have been ongoing references There’s a playful edge throughout – from the striped robes to the beach tennis set. How do you balance visual sophistication with this sense of fun? GK: I always say that Palm Heights might be highly visual and chic, but at the same time, there’s a real playfulness about it. We have tables of backgammon on the beach near the chairs. So those, I think, are super fun and colourful and a little bit ‘pop’. I just felt like it was an important addition.
The collection feels deeply personal. Which piece feels most “you” – and why? GK: All of the pieces feel like a piece of the Palm Heights world, which in turn links to my style. I am always focused on details in spaces. Materials like the soft terry robes and towels, as well as the sandstone on the vases and candles, resonate with me. I always love to use layers of texture and movement, and I think these objects embody that.
Community plays a big role in the Palm Heights ethos. How did that value shape your creative process for this collaboration? GK: Community and collaboration have always been core values of the brand. So, collaborating with incredible creatives has been an ongoing process, and through this community was built. I took the same approach while working with H&M Home and focused on objects that express the spirit of holiday and bring people together (beautiful tabletop pieces, beach towels, and games), and this allows people to bring this to their own spaces this summer.
You describe this collection as bringing the holiday feeling home. What does that sense of escapism look like for you, personally?
GK: My ultimate holiday is a location where I can relax but also discover. I love details, and whether that be seen in linens, service, or even the mini bar, this idea of a special curation is what makes an experience go from good to spectacular. I tried to connect these details to the H&M Home pieces for a full experience of a holiday at home!
Palm Heights is more than a hotel – it’s a fully immersive aesthetic. How did you translate its unique design DNA into this collaboration with H&M Home? GK: Aside from working with the design codes, it was more about translating a feeling. At Palm Heights, we want people to come together, relax, have a good time, and feel connected. The collection features all of these elements – from cosy bathrobes to glassware and games. I hope these speak to the experience we have tried to create. The 1970s Caribbean influence is palpable in both the hotel and this collection. What draws you to that particular era, and how did you re-
You’ve created a global design destination in the heart of the Caribbean. What excites you most about introducing Palm Heights to homes across the UAE and beyond? GK: Palm Heights has always had a very strong and specific visual narrative. The idea of giving guests a very elevated experience where they can also truly be themselves and relax was a key component. I hope that as we introduce the hotel to homes across the UAE that the playful and elegant spirit of the property is felt.
You’ve collaborated with a number of visionaries, but what was it about Gabriella’s
creative universe that made her the ideal partner for this collection? EKS: We loved the creative universe of Palm Heights, but we became even more intrigued by the fact that there was a strong and fascinating woman behind it. Gabriella is so impressive, and it was wonderful to gain an understanding of her vision and her process.
Palm Heights is such a visually rich space. What were the first elements that inspired your team when translating the hotel into a product line? EKS: I would say the colours. We talked about sunset hues – yellow as a key colour in the assortment, along with the stripes. In terms of product, the bathrobes and towels are significant because it is a beach resort. The Cayman Islands are very much about the sun and the sea.
There’s a strong tactile element to the collection – from handwoven textures to teak ceramics. How important was materiality in shaping the mood of the pieces? EKS: H&M Home
is about democratic, modern design that is done mindfully, and I think that is expressed through the materials. In general, we work as sustainably as we can and lean into natural materials for this collection, as the hotel has lots of earthy materials – travertine and other types of stone, like marble, in its design.
This collaboration fuses design storytelling with accessibility. How do you ensure the soul of a high-end boutique hotel translates into attainable pieces for the home? EKS: Gabriella was true to herself and her vision for Palm Heights, but she was also open to what we could contribute, our knowledge of our customers, and commercial aspects. Our goal is to make the world more beautiful for many people, not just a select few. With homewares and objects, I think we can capture the spirit of a place in an accessible way. For example, the games are completely new product types for us. We aimed to capture the energy of the place

and evoke a holiday feeling in the collection. The collection evokes a sense of place and time. How did you balance nostalgia with contemporary appeal in the design direction? EKS: I think that is a mirror of what Gabriella has achieved with the hotel: it is energetic and modern, with a bit of a retro seventies feel, but very contemporary. For H&M Home, we have a design-driven focus on creating modern interior objects – the collection creates a perfect fusion. From scent to color palette, the sensory details are incredibly considered. What role do these finer touches play in the emotional impact of a home? EKS: Sensory experiences, from scents and textures, to colours, add so much to our homes. They create a mood and an ambiance, simply a place to feel at home. You have the functional necessities of interior objects, which can also be very beautiful, but the emotional value lies in creating something that extends beyond what the eye sees. How do you see H&M HOME’s collaborations influencing the way consumers style their spaces, especially in an increasingly digital and design-aware world? EKS: Our ambition is to create accessibility for our customers and invite them to have a piece of something unique in their homes with our collaborations. With Palm Heights, we want to extend the hotel’s energy and atmosphere into our customers’ homes.
What do you hope Middle Eastern customers feel when they experience it in store? EKS: We hope that our Middle Eastern customers will be swept away by the escapism and playfulness of the collection. The collaboration happens at the intersection of H&M Home’s design-driven mission to create modern interior objects and Palm Heights’ unique soul of the 70s in the Caribbean.
