MOVEMENT

PHOTOGRAPHY: ŽIGA MIHEL I

First introduced in 2015 as a single pair of yoga tights, Align quickly became a wardrobe staple around the world. Now celebrating it’s 10-year anniversary, we discuss why we all need more mindful movement with lululemon ambassador, Maitha Al Matrooshi

How would you describe your personal philosophy when it comes to movement and coaching? Movement is how I’ve come to know myself, not just physically, but in how I respond to challenge, rhythm, resistance, and stillness. My coaching philosophy is grounded in purpose: every session is an opportunity to unlock a stronger, more aware version of yourself. Whether it’s through cycling, Lagree, or rhythmic HIIT, I coach with the intention to elevate; mentally, emotionally, and physically. Over the years, coaching across different countries and training alongside elite global coaches has reminded me that the best movement is the one that transforms you from the inside out. How do you see your role as a lululemon ambassador contributing to positive change in the local fitness scene? Being a lululemon ambassador is an honour, but more importantly, it’s a responsibility. It allows me to amplify values that go beyond fitness; values like authenticity, inclusivity, and conscious leadership. I see my role as a bridge between global insights and local impact. With every class, conversation, and collaboration, I aim to elevate the standards of coaching while nurturing a culture and community that celebrates both movement and mindfulness. What’s one moment in your coaching career that completely transformed your perspective on fitness or community? It was the first time I saw a room full of strangers move in complete rhythm; not just to the beat, but with shared intention. That moment shifted everything for me. I realised fitness wasn’t about individual goals, but about collective energy. That sense of community has only deepened through my journey. Community is the heartbeat of sustainable wellness. You’ve built a powerful community around movement. How do you nurture that sense of belonging in your classes? It starts with presence. I make it a point to truly see everyone in the room; to learn their names, their stories, their “why.” I infuse my classes with rhythm, emotion, and purpose, allowing people to drop their guard and meet themselves where they are. It’s about creating a space where people don’t just move, they feel safe to grow. That’s where belonging begins.

“I don’t compartmentalise life and movement, they flow together”

How do you stay motivated when the heat drains your energy? I reconnect to my why. When it’s 45 degrees outside and I’m drenched before the warm-up even starts, I remind myself that movement isn’t a task, it’s a privilege. I lean into hydration, breathwork, and modifying intensity when needed. But most importantly, I do go for lighter weight lululemon leggings, shorts and tops as they’re breathable and can make the exercise a lot more comfortable. Honestly, being part of a community that shows up regardless of the heat, that’s a motivation unlike any other. How do you balance performance and mindfulness? To me, performance is most powerful when it’s precise and present. In Lagree, for example, slow and controlled movement demands both, strength and control must coexist. I train and coach in a way that doesn’t just chase results but refines how we get there. It’s not about doing more, it’s about doing it with better form, better focus, and better intent. What are your best fitness tips for travelling during summer? Keep it simple, stay consistent, and be creative. I prioritise bodyweight workouts that don’t need a gym. Even 20 minutes can make a difference. I also love exploring movement in new environments, whether it’s a beach run, a rooftop flow, or a local class. Training internationally has taught me that fitness doesn’t pause when you travel, it adapts. lululemon emphasises mindfulness as much as movement. How do you integrate mindfulness into your training or daily life? I lead with awareness; whether I’m coaching, training, or resting. That means being honest with what my body needs, being present with my clients, and setting boundaries around recovery. I don’t compartmentalise life and movement, they flow together. And that’s where the real impact is felt. This is The High Summer Issue – where’s your favourite place to escape the heat? Anywhere by the water. Give me a sunrise swim, an early morning coastal walk, or even a shaded trail and I’ll find my reset. Summer is also a time I use to retreat inward, reset intentions, and reconnect with how I want to show up for myself and those I lead.

THE TASTEMAKER

Rumana Nazim, founder of The Edit, on curating Dubai’s coolest fashion destination

What inspired you to launch The Edit? The Edit began as a personal frustration. I was tired of the glossy surface of retail where people and purpose were often sidelined and I wanted a platform that championed contemporary, female-founded brands and puts people first. So, I built it. For me, it’s never been just about sustainability, it’s much bigger than that. It’s about consciousness, because being truly conscious means being ethical, supporting the communities behind the product, and creating something that’s more intentional and human. Every brand at The Edit stands for something, and together they represent a more empowered and thoughtful way to live. What’s your secret to discovering emerging designers before they go mainstream? Curiosity and instinct as I’m constantly searching, be it online, in overlooked corners of Parisian showrooms, and through conversations with people in the industry. I’m drawn to designers who bring clarity to their vision and who don’t just follow trends but reframe them with purpose. What’s one brand you championed early on that you’re especially proud of? Anine Bing. I remember seeing her pieces when she was still defining her aesthetic. I trusted the direction early and brought her into The Edit when no others in the region were stocking her. She’s now a global mainstay, and it’s been rewarding to watch that journey. In what ways do you think The Edit has contributed to shaping the region’s fashion identity? The Edit has helped carve out a space for fashion that feels more personal and self-aware. In a region known for high glamour, we’ve introduced a softer and more intentional way of dressing, which is one that’s less about labels and more about feeling like yourself. We’ve focused on building an experience that goes beyond retail, where curation, community, and conversation all play a role. Whether it’s through the designers we support or the stories we tell, The Edit invites people to slow down, explore, and engage with fashion in a way that feels both elevated and grounded. I think that shift – from consumption to connection – is where our real contribution lies.

Launching The Edit has helped make mindful fashion aspirational, both in the region and beyond. From the beginning, our focus has been on storytelling: female-founded brands, thoughtful processes, and pieces made to last. We’ve introduced several brands to the region that have since gained wider recognition and been picked up by other multi-brand spaces, which tells me we’ve been doing something right by staying ahead of the curve. Naturally, when you lead with a clear and authentic point of view, it inspires others. We’ve seen elements of our approach, whether it’s the brands we champion or the way we advocate sustainability and femalefounded businesses, reflected more widely across the market. It’s encouraging to see these values gaining momentum and that we are influencing others in the industry. If The Edit has played even a small role in shaping that shift, I see it as something to be proud of.

Are there any key brands in the region to watch out for? There are a few brands in the region that I’m genuinely excited about. By ALL’E is elevating eveningwear with beautiful fits and a

soon-to-be launched sustainable capsule produced in small local runs. Bouguessa continues to shine, merging modern elegance with thoughtful, mindful production. Odis is making waves in jewellery, crafting minimalist yet bold pieces in recycled silver and gold that feel modern and purposeful. And then there’s Born Outside Italy, which reinvents luxury sneakers with Italian craftsmanship born out of Dubai. These brands all bring distinct, intentional voices to the region’s fashion scene, and it’s a privilege to watch them grow. You’ve also entered the wellness sector with LivWell – tell us more about this concept. LivWell came from a very personal place for both, my co-founder Payal Shah and me. We were craving more honest conversations around wellness, entrepreneurship, and self-care that weren’t just about how things look but how they feel. LivWell reflects how we try to live: intentionally, mindfully, and always with a focus on growth, even when we’re being challenged. Yes, we touch on longevity, biohacking, mindset, and performance, but LivWell isn’t about living forever or looking younger. It’s about living better. Whatever stage of life you’re in, whatever your goals may be, how can you live it as fully, healthily, and meaningfully as possible? For example, our next event focuses on women and the many paths they take, from motherhood to the decision not to have children, and

the mental health support that’s often missing in all those conversations. Too often, we only talk about our struggles once we’ve already survived them. So when we created LivWell, we intended it to be about creating a space where those conversations can happen while we’re still in the middle of it.

What are the go-to spots to visit if you’re in Dubai this summer? Alserkal is always a must because there’s an intimacy in the quiet season that makes it perfect. I always start with a reset at The Edit’s matcha bar (we’re about to launch some incredible new flavours that I’m really excited about). Lunch at Kokoro is a ritual; it’s my favourite handroll bar, possibly in the world. Lately, I’ve also been enjoying Kumo in Jumeirah. It’s a beautiful new Japanese restaurant with interiors that had me photographing everything for design inspo. Nette is my goto for long, easy breakfasts and if you’re embracing the heat, I love spending time at La Cantine Beach. It’s peaceful, elegant, and has a much more relaxed energy than the usual party beach spots.

As a female founder, what’s been your biggest challenge – and your proudest moment? The biggest challenge has been building something that stays true to its values, especially in an industry that often rewards speed over substance. The proudest moments are always human: seeing a customer discover her style through our store, mentoring a team member who grows into her own, or being told by a designer that The Edit gave their brand a meaningful platform. This is The High Summer Issue – where’s your favourite place to escape the heat? The obvious answer would be the South of France, Mykonos, or Ibiza – and while I do love all of them, there’s something quietly magical about the English countryside in summer. Estelle Manor and Thyme in the Cotswolds are my favourites! Estelle is set on vast, breathtaking grounds with an incredible private art collection and Thyme is family-owned so beautifully intimate and rooted in nature (all the food that they serve is grown on their grounds). They both emulate the kind of quiet luxury that stays with you.

POWER

“The

Mediterranean lifestyle is all about balance – enjoying beauty and

What do the first 30 minutes of your day look like, your morning routine? I usually start my day by getting up and getting ready, often with a cup of tea or water. I tend to skip breakfast and head straight into the shower before leaving for the office. Mornings aren’t really my thing – it’s mostly about getting ready quickly and catching up with the team once I arrive at the office. Suncillo began with a vision of the Mediterranean. What was the catalyst for this – and when did you know it was the right time to launch the brand? Growing up, I always knew I wanted to launch my own brand, although I wasn’t initially drawn to ready-to-wear. While studying fashion at LISAA in Paris, I chose specialise in Textile Design, which, in hindsight,

wasn’t the right fit – I had originally envisioned a path in couture. After completing university and a few internships, I set the idea of starting a brand aside. It wasn’t until ten years later that my interest in fashion was reignited. Inspired by my best friend, who was launching her own label at the time and had already navigated the process of sourcing tailors and fabrics, I found the motivation to revisit the idea. I wanted the project to be enjoyable and creatively fulfilling. With COVID slowing down my other ventures, it gave me the perfect window to focus on building Suncillo.

How many styles did you launch with and how has the brand evolved since its early days? I began the brand with a single focus: swimwear. The initial launch featured seven bikini styles in a variety of colours. As the brand grew, I started expanding the category in response to customer demand – many were looking for matching pieces to complete their beach looks. The next natural step was to introduce dresses designed to transition effortlessly from day to night – perfect for those endless summer days that turn into unforgettable evenings. The idea was to offer pieces that let you go from the beach to dinner without needing to change, combining ease with effortless elegance.

Carving out a space in fashion takes grit. What have been the defining moments that shaped your journey as an entrepreneur? Yes, absolutely. Carving out a space in fashion definitely requires a lot of patience and a clear focus on your vision. Suncillo is truly my passion project, and from the beginning, I told myself to be patient with it, not to expect instant returns, or treat it purely as a commercial venture. I believe that consistency and resilience have been key in carrying the brand forward. Along the way, I’ve made a conscious effort to equip myself with the skills and mindset needed to continually push my limits and

ease with intention. That philosophy shapes everything at Suncillo.”

grow. Whenever I encountered setbacks or felt stuck, I reminded myself that giving up wasn’t an option and that Suncillo’s growth could only head in a positive direction. This approach has helped me stay grounded and motivated even during tough times. What are the core values and guiding philosophies that have anchored the brand as it continues to grow? If you see it, then it means the message I’ve been trying to convey through the brand is coming across. From the beginning, my goal with Suncillo has been to create swimwear that makes you feel sexy and glamourous – without ever crossing into vulgarity. I wanted to evoke the feeling of being dressed and elegant, even when you’re not fully covered. That balance of sophistication and allure has always been at the heart of the brand. Carrying that same intention into resortwear has been just as important to me as the brand continues to grow.

Your designs evoke a bold, free-spirited, and unapologetically elegant woman. How do you stay creatively aligned with her? Suncillo is all about making women feel confident and empowered in what they wear. When I design, I’m always thinking about how the piece will make someone feel – comfortable, attractive, and effortlessly elegant. I often test new styles on myself or close friends, because it’s important for me to see how different body types connect with the design. Having real women – each with their own energy and style – try on the prototypes helps me stay grounded in the vision of who the Suncillo woman is: bold, free-spirited, and unapologetically herself.

The Solar and Solar Cruise Collection feels like a love letter to light. What inspired this particular interplay between earth, sea, and sky and how did you translate the mood into material form? Many of the fabrics I choose are designed to come alive under the sun – they catch the light in a way that transforms their colour and texture. The sun is our source of energy, and it deeply influences how we experience the world around us. Without its brightness, the sea doesn’t have the same depth of blue, and the sky doesn’t carry that same vibrant glow. This connection between earth, sea, and sky is what I wanted to express in the Solar and Solar Cruise Collections. For me, fabric is often the first spark of inspiration. The way it moves, the way it reflects light – those details immediately start shaping the design in my mind. As you said, it’s all intertwined. Even the name Suncillo reflects that spirit – I chose the name of a Mediterranean island because the lifestyle, culture, and colours of that region are at the heart of everything I create. What are your favourite pieces? Each collection builds on the last, exploring a new mood. These are some of my favourite pieces: Mia dress, Aria dress, Lyra dress, Angelica set, and Aura set. The Mediterranean lifestyle is central to your ethos – sundrenched but mindful. How does that influence not just your designs, but how you approach sustainability and brand values? The Mediterranean lifestyle is all about balance – enjoying beauty and ease with intention. That philosophy shapes everything at Suncillo. I focus on creating timeless, elegant pieces designed to last beyond a single season. Sustainability is at the core of what we do: we produce in small batches, collaborate closely with our in-house tailor, and use deadstock fabrics to minimise waste. It’s all about making thoughtful choices that reflect a slower, more conscious way of living. This is The High Summer Issue – where and how are you spending the last days of summer? I usually wrap up summer

with a trip to Ibiza – it’s become a bit of a tradition. We don’t plan much and just go with the flow, but there’s always a reunion with friends around mid-August before heading back to Dubai in September. The end of summer is pretty relaxed. Personally, all I really need during the holidays is time by the sea. I’m not much of a pool person – I prefer beach days and hikes. There’s something about the calm and clarity I get from swimming in the sea that nothing else quite matches.

Léa Daaboul, founder and creative director of Léa The Label, discusses building a brand with passion and purpose

What do the first 30 minutes of your day look like, your morning routine?

The first thing I do when I wake up is have a glass of water, followed by five minutes of silence and meditation. Then I sit with my coffee and my book. I always make time for a morning read, which helps shift my mindset into focus before the day begins. It’s a simple routine, but it always keeps me grounded and intentional as I step into the day. What was the catalyst for launching your brand? Was the goal always to start something of your own? The catalyst for launching my brand was a mix of passion, purpose, and a desire to create something with deeper intention. I’ve always been drawn to beautiful design, aesthetics, and storytelling, but I also wanted to build something that aligned with my values. Something mindful, elevated, and enduring. I had a strong vision I felt compelled to bring to life. Growing up in a family of business owners and entrepreneurs, the idea of creating something of my own came naturally. While it’s certainly challenging, it also feels intuitive.

Léa the Label was born from a deep connection to the ocean and reverence for nature. What’s your earliest memory of that relationship, and how does it continue to shape your creative direction? My earliest memory of that connection goes back to my childhood home in Lebanon, where we still return to every summer. The house overlooks the Mediterranean Sea, with an incredible view of the sun setting over the horizon every day. That view, stillness, and light are embedded into my memory and continue to inspire me. Being connected to the sea from such a young age gave me a deep sense of appreciation for nature. It’s something I carry with me and draw inspiration from in everything I create. You chose Milos, Greece, as the backdrop for your latest campaign. What drew you to that setting, and how did it influence the mood of the shoot? Greece is one of my favourite Mediterranean destinations that I try to visit almost every year. I’ve explored about ten of its islands, and Milos is at the top of my list. There’s something about its raw beauty, stillness, and striking coastline that feels both timeless and deeply inspiring. For this campaign, I was drawn to that sense of quiet power. Milos offered the perfect balance of sea, softness, and strength. The organic landscape set the tone for everything, making it feel effortlessly sensual. It brought depth and emotion to the collection that felt completely aligned with its essence.

The Calypso top and Kyma set feel both nostalgic and future-forward. How do you navigate designing timeless swimwear in a world of fast trends? Designing timeless swimwear in a fast-paced world means being intentional about every detail, from the silhouette to the fabric and to the feeling it evokes. With pieces like the Calypso and Kyma sets, I wanted to capture a sense of nostalgia while still feeling modern and refined. I’m drawn to creating pieces that hold emotional value, pieces that women return to season after season. For me, timelessness comes from restraint, thoughtful design, and the ability to evoke a mood that transcends time.

As a founder and creative director, how do you balance your artistic instinct with the demands of building a sustainable business? This is something I’m constantly navigating. As a founder and creative director, I lead with vision. My artistic intuition shapes the soul of the brand, but it’s equally important to ground those ideas in structure, strategy, and long-term thinking. It’s about designing with intention, making thoughtful decisions across every part of the brand, and staying true to my vision while remaining adaptable. It’s a balance we’re always striving for.

What have been some of the most defining lessons in your entrepreneurial journey so far? One of the most defining lessons has been learning to trust my own voice even when it feels quieter than all the surrounding noise. In a saturated industry, it’s easy to get distracted

“For me, timelessness comes from restraint, thoughtful design, and the ability to evoke a mood that transcends time”

by comparison or pressured into moving faster than what feels natural. But staying grounded in my vision, my values, and the “why” behind what we are building is everything. I owe a lot of that grounding to my mindful yoga practice, it’s taught me to pause, reflect, and return to myself when needed. As a woman navigating this space, I’ve also learned the importance of boundaries, resilience, and believing in yourself. Real growth comes from listening, learning, protecting your energy, and leading with purpose. It’s an ongoing journey, but one that continues to shape me creatively and personally, in all the right ways.

Léa the Label champions slow, sustainable luxury. What does sustainability look like behind the scenes, from sourcing to production? For us, sustainability is woven into every step, from sourcing to production and beyond. We work with regenerated and natural or timeless fabrics that meet our standards for quality, longevity, and environmental responsibility. We’re intentional about where and how we produce, partnering with ethical factories that prioritise fair wages and safe working conditions. Protecting the ocean has always been deeply personal to me. It’s a constant source of inspiration and calm, and a reminder of what’s at stake. That’s why we’ve also partnered with CleanHub in Bali, so for every item purchased, around one pound of plastic is prevented from entering the sea. While we are not perfect by any means, sustainability isn’t a trend for us; it’s a commitment to creating with purpose. We are always striving and learning to do better.

What do you hope a woman feels when she puts on a piece from Léa the Label? I hope she feels powerful, confident, effortless, and deeply connected to herself. There’s a quiet power in wearing something that reflects who you are without trying too hard.

What are your go-to pieces that you’ll be wearing this summer? I will definitely be wearing the new Calypso and Kyma sets, they fit like second skin. The Calico is another go-to staple I practically lived in since we launched it last season. It’s effortless, flattering, and now available in our new dreamy colourways. It’s one of those bikinis you keep effortlessly reaching for time and time again.

How do you see the brand resonating with women in the region, and are there elements of Middle Eastern culture or coastal living that inspire you creatively? Léa the Label is crafted for the modern, timeless muse, which is why I believe it resonates with so many diverse women living in the Middle East. Cities like Dubai embody a balance of elevated style, confidence, and individuality, and I see that reflected in the women who are drawn to the brand. There’s also a deep appreciation in the region for travel, especially to sun-drenched, coastal escapes, which mirrors the ethos of the brand so effortlessly. This is The High Summer Issue – where will you be escaping to this summer? I almost always find myself escaping to the Mediterranean in the summertime. There’s something about the golden light, the stillness of the sea, and the slower rhythm of life that feels grounding, soulful, and deeply inspiring. It’s the essence of effortless Mediterranean living.

MUSE UNDER THE SUN

WORDS:

Founder of

Odd Muse, Aimee

Smale, on summer, style, and the power of timeless resortwear

What inspired you to launch Odd Muse? Odd Muse was my answer to a space I felt was missing in women’s wardrobes and in my own. I wanted to offer long-term pieces that felt elevated but made sense to invest in. Pieces that were accessible but aspirational. It’s about building a wardrobe that lasts. No one else was bridging that gap.

Your brand focuses on capsule pieces – was this the plan from the outset? Absolutely. I’ve always believed in the power of fewer, better pieces you can rely on. The goal was never to overwhelm but to create a refined, curated collection that grows with our customer. Elevated, considered and truly investment-worthy.

You’ve mastered the social media game to elevate your brand – what are your top tips for any entrepreneur? Storytelling has been key. Instead of just selling product, it’s really about sharing the brand journey. The behind the scenes, the small wins, the customer moments. That’s what builds connection. People want to feel like they’re part of something, not just being sold to.

Odd Muse just entered the resortwear chat – and it’s giving timeless tan lines. What inspired this summer drop? It always starts with our customer. Odd Muse evolves with her and this drop was about expanding what summer looks like in her wardrobe. We brought back our signature lime cream, leaned into midi silhouettes, which had such a moment last year and introduced a polka dot print, a new direction for us. It’s our way of evolving, while staying anchored in the brand’s core identity. You’re known for elevated tailoring – how did you translate that into sun-soaked pieces? We approached our summer pieces the same way we do everything. With clean lines, structure, and attention to detail. Even in our lighter summer styles, there’s still that sculpted feel. That polished finish is something we never compromise on.

You recently launched PodMuse to share the real side of building Odd Muse – tell us more. PodMuse came from a place of wanting to show the reality behind the polish. Building a brand is full of learnings and I wanted a space to share those with honesty. The highs, the lows and the messy in-between. It’s like a behind-the-scenes that invites other creatives and entrepreneurs into the conversation.

Odd Muse is known as ‘The Forever Brand’ –what does that phrase mean to you, beyond the tagline? It means more than the longevity of the product, it’s about the connection you build with a piece. The feeling when something lasts beyond a season, both in quality and meaning. That’s the kind of relationship we want to create with our customer’s wardrobe.

How do you balance creative control with the pressures of growth and scalability? As we’ve scaled, I’ve learned the importance of protecting that creative space. I make sure to carve out time to solely design and reconnect with Odd Muse’s core vision. It’s also about building a team I trust so I’m able to take that time for myself to let my creativity flow.

How has your personal style evolved since founding Odd Muse & tell us about your approach to summer dressing? I’ve found a

lot more clarity. I know what works for me, and I don’t feel the pressure to constantly change it up. Summer for me is about softness, easy silhouettes and comfort that still feels polished. Especially for when I’m on the go.

This is The High Summer Issue – where’s your favourite place to escape the heat? Anywhere coastal. The South of France is always a reset for me. It’s important to find those spaces where I can switch off. What I call tapping into my ‘off muse’ energy.

EMPOWERED BY CHOICE

Courtney Black, entrepreneur and founder of the Courtney Black App, on creating her app from scratch, the empowerment of her explant journey, and why real strength comes from self-acceptance

WORDS: AMINATH IFASA

Can you tell us about your explant journey and how it has changed you? My explant was one of the most empowering decisions I’ve made. I went in questioning if my body would still feel like “me”, to coming out of the operation feeling more like myself than I have in years. I feel so much more energised, confident, and it’s strange to say, but I feel like my clients are taking me more seriously. I think it’s because I am just one hundred percent myself, and it’s refreshing to see.

What advice would you give to someone thinking about undergoing this surgery? Don’t do it just because I have – you need to make this decision for yourself. I was thinking about this for the last three years. Do the research, find a surgeon you trust, and prepare emotionally as well as physically. It’s a huge change.

Have you been surprised by how confident you felt post-surgery and has your approach to fitness changed? So surprised. I thought I’d miss that version of my body, but I look back and don’t even see myself? Now I just feel like everything is falling into place. I train more with intent and I’m striving to better myself more in every workout. I focus my workouts on being short but effective, but I also really prioritise recovery and long walks. What’s a wellness habit you swear by that isn’t exercise? Your diet and focusing on foods that are going to make you feel your best. Eating high-fibre foods is so important. I aim for 30g fibre every day. Aim for high protein and whole foods in every meal. Your diet is everything. Making sure you are eating the best you can most of the time will give you the energy you need to live to the fullest.

How challenging was it to build your own app? Very. It’s like building a gym and a social club all in one, except I know how personal exercise is to people. The 45 minutes they spend working out with me can either make their day better or dampen their mood if they leave it not feeling good, so every workout is built to make people feel empowered. It was quite easy for me translating my in-person energy and coaching style into a digital format because our specialty is real-time workouts, so I do every workout with our subscribers. I love that about my app. As a founder, what’s your take on the term ‘toxic positivity’ in the fitness industry? It’s exhausting and misleading. Telling people to “just be positive” when they’re struggling isn’t helpful and doesn’t feel ‘real’. People want to see honest, raw emotions and people finding things hard, which is why when I am filming my workouts for my app, I love showing when I have bad days… I’m not a robot after all! Real wellness allows space for hard days, rest days, and real emotions. Fitness shouldn’t be about pretending you’re okay – it should help you become strong enough to handle when you’re not. My motto is: progress comes from pushing past comfort zones. What’s the most transformative feedback you’ve received from app users? People come for physical results, but they stay for the mindset shifts: confidence, boundaries, self-worth. This for me is so important – knowing people feel so much happier in their lives because they now have more confidence is incredible.

How do you approach rest days? I remind people: muscles grow when you rest, not when you’re flogging yourself seven days a week. Hustle culture has convinced us we need to earn rest, but rest is part of the process, not a reward. You can still train like an animal (in fact, I love to, haha), but you need to rest like a hibernating bear and come back stronger. How do you balance data-driven workouts with intuitive movement? I love data – it gives you clues. But intuition is wisdom. I use metrics like HRV and recovery scores to guide intensity, but I also teach my clients to tune into how they actually feel. It’s all well and good to look at your Oura ring in the morning that says you have prime readiness to train, but if you feel like dirt, you probably need to reconsider if the data is accurate for how you feel intuitively.

This is The High Summer Issue – where’s your favourite place to escape the heat? Anywhere with a high UV, flip-flops, a good fantasy book, and ice cream.

PEAK HEAT, HIGH PERFORMANCE

PEAK HEAT delivers outdoor workouts to take your fitness game to the next level

WORDS: SARAH JOSEPH

How has the UAE’s fitness and wellness culture evolved, and where does PEAK HEAT fit into that narrative? The UAE’s wellness culture has matured enormously in recent years. There has been a shift from surface-level trends to experiences that offer real mental, emotional and physical impact. People are looking for something more meaningful. Something that challenges them and creates a sense of transformation both personally and collectively. PEAK HEAT fits into this evolution as a new kind of wellness experience. It speaks to the adventurous, conscious consumer who wants to step outside their routine and reconnect with nature, with movement and with themselves. This is The High Summer Issue – where’s your favourite place to escape the heat? Ironically, I do not believe we always need to escape it. That is what PEAK HEAT is all about. Embracing the season and finding strength through it. But if I had to choose a favourite escape, it would be somewhere in nature that offers contrast and clarity. Whether it is the crisp mountain air of Jebel Jais at dawn or the serenity of Ras Al Khaimah’s stunning coastal spots, I always find calm in places where the elements take centre stage.

Jessica Casalegno, Managing Director of DRYP Studio

What led to the collaboration with DRYP? PEAK HEAT grew from Visit Jebel Jais’ interest in DRYP and the mutual connections between the two teams. DRYP’s hot classes and vibrant community are now well established, and it felt like the perfect moment to bring the Sweat Hub outdoors to the tallest mountain in the UAE. The idea was to take everything people love about DRYP and elevate it, quite literally, in a setting that’s raw, powerful, and completely different from anything else out there. Together with Visit Jebel Jais, we wanted to create something immersive that celebrates movement, resilience and nature.

RAK Hospitality Holding and DRYP Studio team up for the UAE’s first outdoor hot fitness experience, returning to Jebel Jais on August 23 and 24. We spoke to Alison Grinnell, CEO of RAK Hospitality Holding; and Jessica Casalengo, Managing Director of DRYP, to find out more.

Alison Grinnell, CEO of RAK Hospitality Holding

What inspired you to launch PEAK HEAT? We wanted to completely reframe how people experience summer in the UAE. Instead of retreating indoors, we saw an opportunity to embrace the elements and turn the heat into a catalyst for wellbeing. PEAK HEAT was born from that idea. It is a bold, immersive experience that combines movement, altitude and nature at the highest point in the UAE, Jebel Jais. It is more than just a workout. It is about creating space for connection, resilience and self-discovery in an environment that feels both powerful and grounding. Not only is Ras Al Khaimah the nature emirate, but it is where opportunity thrives and an extraordinary powerhouse of innovation and resilience.

What makes this different from a typical hot yoga or fitness class?

Traditional hot yoga or heat-based workouts rely on controlled indoor studio environments. At PEAK HEAT, nature is the studio. We are 1,934 metres above sea level on Jebel Jais with no air conditioning, no mirrors and no artificial lighting. Just mountain air, golden hour sunsets and a panoramic horizon. The heat is not manufactured. It is real, raw and part of the challenge. That connection to the natural world makes the experience feel incredibly grounding and visceral. It is hot fitness, elevated. Why was Jebel Jais chosen as the location, and how do the natural elements play into the experience? Jebel Jais is the UAE’s highest peak, and it brings a unique sense of scale, stillness and cinema that you simply cannot recreate in a studio. The mountain becomes an active part of the experience. Its altitude, the cooler air, the sunset light and the vastness of the panoramic view all contribute to the impact. These elements transform the workout into something deeper and more connected. We wanted to use the natural landscape not just as a backdrop but as an active force in the journey, and Jebel Jais was the perfect setting for that.

What are the physical and mental benefits of training in such raw conditions? Not only does training in the heat challenge your muscular, pulmonary and cardiovascular endurance levels, but it also challenges the mind, pushing you for clearer focus. Detoxing with a deeper sweat, you can also expect glowing skin from continued regular hot classes and a cleaner liver from the constant natural release of toxins. The clean mountain air and high altitude enhance the experience further, giving your body and mind a full reset. It’s a completely different feeling from training indoors. It’s grounding, energising, and incredibly rewarding. How does PEAK HEAT harness the power of altitude, movement and heat for a fitness experience. PEAK HEAT is a unique experience in which the power of DRYP Sweat Hub is raised to higher heights, engulfed by the warmth of the sun and under the clear sky, sunset sessions within the DRYP community truly hit like no other. The altitude sharpens the breath, the heat intensifies the workout, and the movement brings everything together. As the golden hour light hits the mountain, the sessions take on an energy that is truly unmatched. There’s something about moving with your community, outdoors, under the sky, that elevates the whole experience.

Can you walk us through the PEAK HEAT journey – from the first breath on the mountain to the last bite of dinner? Clients arrive at Peak Heat together with their DRYP instructor to find a serene location to practice just as golden hour is approaching. Your instructor will guide you through a powerful, sweaty hybrid class that blends fitness, yoga, power and positivity. Just as the sun begins to dip, there’s a shift. The session winds down and you’re led to 1484 by Puro for a sunset dinner. It’s refreshing, restorative, and feels like a reward after the climb. From there, you can retreat to your hotel room at the newly launched Rove Al Marjan for a restful night, completely reset and reconnected. This is The High Summer Issue – where’s your favourite place to escape the heat? My favourite place to escape the Dubai heat is to get away to another emirate for a staycation. My husband and I have been retreating to Fujairah for years but this summer we’re considering a staycation in Ras Al Khaimah or Abu Dhabi instead. The UAE is full of hidden gems and each emirate truly has something special to offer.

AM TO PM BEAUTY

Tiffany Hanna, founder of luxury swimwear brand Polytimi shares her morning to evening beauty routine

Talk us through your morning routine. I like to wake up early and ease into the day with a slow, quiet start before things get busy. I really value having that time to myself to set my intentions and mentally prepare. I’ll usually fit in a short but effective workout – something to get my body moving –and then I begin getting ready for the day.

I like to keep a simple skincare routine of cleansing, moisturising, and applying some toner and SPF.

How does your evening routine differ? My evenings are all about unwinding. I love to treat myself to some skincare and either a good

book or a little TV before bed. It’s my time to disconnect and decompress from the day. What are your go-to skincare products? One product I genuinely can’t live without is the Paula’s Choice 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant –it makes such a noticeable difference in the texture of my skin. I’m also a big fan of Bio Oil; I’ve been using it for years. I massage it all over my body daily. It’s amazing for hydration, stretch marks and scars.

Are you a fan of masks? I’m not someone who uses masks regularly, but I’ve been wanting to start incorporating them into my routine. I’m especially curious about LED

face masks – they seem like such a fun and effective addition to a night-time ritual. How would you describe your approach to makeup? Very similar to my skincare – simple and minimal. I really believe less is more, and my skin tends to respond better that way too. I gravitate toward natural-looking makeup, and when I’m short on time and use fewer products, my makeup usually turns out better. If I’m wearing makeup, I never skip concealer, bronzer, and blush. One of my go-to products is the MAC Glow Play Blush. It’s a creamy formula that blends beautifully and gives such a natural, radiant finish.

Clockwise from top left:

Soulfood Nourishing Hair Mask 250ml Dhs172 amika; Lip Wrap Reviving Balm Dhs88 ILIA; 2% BHA Liquid

Exfoliant Dhs128 Paula’s Choice; Glow Play Cushiony Blush Dhs158 M.A.C Cosmetics; Skincare Oil 125ml Dhs75 Bio Oil; Allegra Baciami Eau De Parfum Dhs1,340 Bvlgari

What can always be found in your makeup bag? Lip balm – tinted or not, it’s a non-negotiable for me. My lips need to be hydrated and plump, and my friends always tease me because I’m constantly reapplying it. If it’s not in my bag, it’s because I have it in my pocket. My favourite right now is the Ilia Lip Wrap Reviving Balm – the cooling applicator is just so soothing. Which fragrances are your current favourites? I love a sweet scent that’s not overpowering. Bvlgari Baciami is my go-to everyday perfume at the moment. It’s such a warm and chic scent, and I haven’t smelled anything like it.

Talk us through your hair routine. I wash my hair every other day to keep it feeling fresh and healthy. In the shower, I always shampoo, apply a hair mask – Amika nourishing mask to soften and shine – and I follow up with a hair oil to lock in hydration. I have naturally curly hair, which I love, but when I want to style it, I reach for my Dyson Airwrap – it’s the best tool for creating soft, bouncy volume.

What is the most unusual item in your makeup bag? Probably my eyelash curler. It might not be unusual, but it comes everywhere with me. I use it whether I’m wearing mascara or

not – curled lashes instantly make me look more awake and polished.

This is The High Summer Issue – where are you travelling to this summer and what’s in your beauty kit? I usually head to Greece in the summer. I love being by the sea and I always pack a selection of Polytimi bikinis and my beeswax propolis balm, which I pick up in Greece every year. It’s a true multitasker: I use it on my cuticles, lips, and dry skin, and even rub it through my hair if it’s feeling parched from the saltwater. It’s incredibly hydrating and has amazing natural anti-aging benefits too.

A HEALTHY MICROBIOME

SIRO One Za’abeel’s in-house nutritionist, Heeral Shivnani, shares her top tips for gut health prep for summer travel

Talk us through your background. I am a clinical dietitian specialising in gut health and hormonal imbalances, helping clients uncover the root causes of symptoms like bloating, irregular bowel syndrome (IBS), irregular menstrual cycles, and stubborn weight gain. With a science-backed yet holistic approach, I blend functional nutrition with lifestyle strategies to restore balance, improve digestion, and support long-term wellness. My practice focuses on empowering individuals to understand their bodies better and make sustainable changes that truly transform how they feel day-to-day.

What are some of the tips to keep your gut health during summer, especially when travelling? Summer travel often means changes in routine, diet, and hydration – each of which can impact your gut. To support digestive health on the go, stay hydrated, especially in hotter climates, as water helps keep digestion smooth and prevents constipation. Place emphasis on room temperature and warm beverages, such as herbal teas. Eat fermented foods like yogurt, kefir, kanji, sourdough bread, or pickled vegetables whenever possible –they naturally replenish beneficial bacteria. Pack a travel-friendly probiotic, especially if you’re exploring new cuisines or regions where food hygiene might vary, and you may or may not have access to the above. Maintain regular mealtimes to avoid overeating at night and disrupting your gut’s circadian rhythm. Choose fibre-rich snacks like roasted chickpeas, or trail mixes with roasted seeds and dried fruit such as figs, raisins and dates to keep your microbiome fed while in transit.

ings. Prioritising mindfulness, getting sunlight in the morning, journaling, or even just grounding barefoot in nature can help re-center your nervous system and support overall wellness from the inside out. During summer, what dietary adjustments do you recommend to optimise energy levels and support a healthy physique? Focus on light, hydrating, and seasonal foods. So, start your day with warm water and a pinch of natural mineral-rich salt (like pink Himalayan or sea salt) for improved cellular hydration. Add cooling herbs and spices to meals or as a tea – a delightful blend is fennel, coriander, cumin and dried rose petals. Choose water-rich vegetables (cucumber, zucchini, lettuce) and fruit (watermelon, berries, papaya) to reduce internal heat. Prioritise protein and healthy fats at each meal to sustain energy without blood sugar dips. Avoid excessive caffeine or alcohol, which can dehydrate and burden the gut-liver axis. Focus on fresh coconut water, flavoured sparkling water or kombucha as alternative beverages.

“Making time to eat a balanced breakfast can be a key part of the safety mindset”

You’ve mentioned the benefits of intermittent fasting. How does this practice support gut health? Intermittent fasting can give the digestive system a much-needed break, supporting gut health in several ways. During the fasting window, a process called the migrating motor complex (MMC) becomes active – it acts like a housekeeping wave, clearing out leftover food particles and bacteria, which helps reduce bloating and supports a balanced gut microbiome. For women, it’s especially important to fast in a gentle and sustainable way. Extended fasts can disrupt hormones and increase stress in some individuals. Most women benefit from a fasting window of 12 to 14 hours, rather than longer durations. For example, finishing dinner by 7:30 PM and having breakfast around 8:00 AM the next day gives the gut time to rest and reset without overstressing the system. When practiced mindfully, intermittent fasting can reduce gut inflammation, support metabolic health, and improve the efficiency of digestion – all while aligning with the body’s natural circadian rhythm. How do mental and emotional health intersect with physical wellness, especially during the summer months when routines may change? Our gut and brain are in constant conversation via the gut-brain axis. When summer disrupts your usual structure – whether due to travel, social events, or sleep shifts – emotions like anxiety or overstimulation can manifest physically as bloating, altered bowel habits, or crav-

You've shared your personal health challenges and triumphs. How did addressing gut health specifically contribute to your overall wellness transformation? Healing my gut was like lifting a veil – suddenly, I had more energy, mental clarity, and emotional stability. I struggled with fatigue, skin flare-ups, and digestive discomfort for years, which I once thought were unrelated. But once I focused on restoring microbial diversity, reducing inflammatory foods, and nourishing myself with Ayurvedic principles, my entire system recalibrated, and I was able to do so much more. It wasn’t just about digestion – it was about reclaiming vitality and peace from within. What final piece of advice would you offer to those looking to embrace a healthier lifestyle while enjoying the pleasures of life? Health shouldn’t feel like punishment – it should feel like support. Instead of restriction, think of addition: add movement, colour, laughter, herbs, rituals, and rest. And when you indulge – do it mindfully and joyfully. The body is resilient and wise; when you listen to its signals, you can live well and live fully. With the plethora of probiotic options available, how can one select the right supplement to support gut health, and what role do they play in digestion and immunity? Not all probiotics are created equal. Look for a multi-strain formula with clinically studied strains like Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG or Bifidobacterium longum. The strain should match your need – some help with bloating and constipation, others with immunity or mood. Make sure the label specifies CFU (colony-forming units) at the time of expiry, not just at manufacture, so you’re getting what you paid for. Third-party certifications: Look for seals like NSF, USP, or GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices). These indicate the product has been tested independently for quality, purity, and accuracy of labelling. Supplements are not regulated like medications, so third-party verification is essential to avoid ineffective or contaminated products. Probiotics support digestion by aiding nutrient absorption and keeping pathogenic bacteria in check. They also modulate immune responses and help maintain the gut barrier – your body’s frontline defense system. What is your non-negotiable when it comes to your self-care routine? Morning stillness. Whether it’s breathwork, sipping my herbal tea in silence, or stepping outside barefoot, it grounds me before the world gets loud. That pocket of intentional calm gives my body a sense of safety, which I believe is the ultimate foundation for wellness. Moreover, making time to eat a balanced breakfast can be a key part of the safety mindset. A pot of oats or yoghurt doesn’t quite cut it for me personally, and we all know that enjoying a proper spread is a luxury. Hence, I’d rather wake up early to enjoy a slow breakfast at home than a rushed one at my desk.

THE WANDERLUST

Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea renaissance is

led by a

duo of sensational stays across land and sea

WORDS: ALICE HOLTHAM-PARGIN

On the northwest coast of Saudi Arabia, the Red Sea’s craggy mountains, dramatic desert and crystalline waters have remained under the radar – until recently. The awakening of The Red Sea project – and its string of dazzling hotels – puts this natural wonder front and centre for ultra-luxury regional travel infused with culture and heritage. While global icons will front many of the resorts, Red Sea Hospitality was created to operate two otherworldly properties – a secluded island resort, Shebara; and Desert Rock, an inland boutique resort carved into the rocks. Between them, they offer the perfect duality: one a majestic desert escape, the other an alluring island retreat that oozes exclusivity.

THE STAY

Oppenheim Architecture-designed Desert Rock is beautifully intentional. Spaces meld into one another, and rather than building onto the weathered cliffs, the resort is carved into them. Nabatean-inspired villas gaze out over the local landscape, while showstopping cave suites cut out of the massif are arguably among the world’s most unique hotel rooms. Each of the 60 villas and suites are calm and minimal in aesthetic, inviting total disconnection. Private pools, enormous freestanding tubs and crisp Frette linens are luxurious standards. But it’s the little extras that make this stay special. A complimentary mini bar of gourmet snacks, Palatino hats and beach bags to take away,

and eye patches left at turn down. In contrast, Shebara, the brainchild of acclaimed Killa Design, is strikingly futuristic, its overwater villas a collection of hypnotising orbs dancing on the impossibly blue water. The resort’s beach villas are the option to book for seclusion, discreetly nestled on their own private beach and encased in lush landscaping, while the Maldives-style overwater villas offer all-out glamour. Inside, spaces are just as spectacular. Soft and soothing, a crescent-shaped curtain glides away in the living room to reveal an infinity pool and sunken seating area, while back inside, everything is ergonomically designed so that the practical is neatly concealed, letting the design wow-factor shine.

THE DINING

Despite its boutique size, dining at Desert Rock is varied and impressive. One night, guests can sip non-alcoholic wine and listen to chilled sunset DJ sets at The Observatory, perched high atop the mountain and reachable via a 630-step climb. Another, they can dine at the hands of Michelin-pedigree chef Osman Sezenger, the man at the helm of Nyra. This hilltop restaurant that fuses ingredients from his garden in Turkey with local flavours to create dishes like the fresh lobster with sujuk gnocchi and wood-grilled octopus with a sweet pomegranate sauce.

At Shebara, drinks at Solera, adjacent to the chic adults-only pool, are unmissable, with alcohol-free twists on mojitos and

martinis shaken up to sorbet-hued sunsets. A short stroll away, overwater dining is best enjoyed at the upscale Japanese restaurant, Iki.Roe, where diners can either watch the chefs at work in the open kitchen with a table indoors, or spot rays gliding by with a seat on the alfresco terrace. Guests unable to tear themselves away from the spoils of their villa can enjoy 24-hour room service.

THE WELLNESS

Both resorts are deliberately designed to invite immediate disconnection, whether you’re cycling around Desert Rock’s craggy peaks or strolling barefoot on the beach at Shebara. To further encourage reflection and rejuvenation, the Desert Rock spa is a haven of calm, inspired by the wadi it’s located in. Inside, seven treatment rooms combine traditional local therapies powered by Amara skincare products with more unique treatments, including a specialised waterbed therapy. Outside, a vitality pool lined with plush loungers and a rooftop yoga pavilion are blissful al-

fresco sanctuaries. You know you’ve arrived at the spa at Shebara when you’re greeted with a 400-year-old olive tree. Inside, it’s all dramatic lines and neutral soothing hues, from a sumptuous couple’s treatment room to a cavernous hammam that leads outside to a bubbling vitality pool and sun-kissed massage cabanas dotted across the sugary beach.

THE EXPERIENCE

If your idea of self-care is exhilarating experiences, then the Akun Adventure Centre at Desert Rock is where to head. Thrilling hikes, ziplines and a via ferrata take adventure to new heights, while guided fat bike and ATV tours across the rugged desert terrain invite you to star in your own Dune blockbuster. With its impossibly clear waters and rainbow-hued coral reef, snorkelling is a must at Shebara. Simply descend the stairs from your overwater villa and explore the vibrant underwater world below, or embark on a sailing trip with WAMA, the team in charge of Shebara’s extensive water adventures.

EXTRAORDINARY ESCAPES

From heritage-laced boltholes in AlUla to otherworldly retreats at The Red Sea, these five awe-inspiring luxury escapes are redefining summer travel in the Kingdom

From AI-like futuristic island pods to desert sanctuaries rooted in ancient stone, Saudi Arabia is creating a new kind of luxury in travel. What’s taking shape leans towards thoughtful design, with a deep reverence for its surrounding nature.

NUJUMA, A RITZ-CARLTON RESERVE

As the first Ritz-Carlton Reserve in the Middle East, the resort located at Ummahat Island – with its 65 villas set across sand and sea – is designed to disappear into its surroundings with shell-like curves and muted palettes. The guest experience is unhurried and hyper-personalised, whether you’re gliding through coral reefs on a guided dive, stargazing from your private deck, or diving into the region’s cultural textures through art and cuisine, making it a thoughtful, memorable stay.

SHEBARA RESORT

Shebara doesn’t look real at first glance. A scattering of stainless-steel orbs float just above the sea on a remote Red Sea island –each a fully kitted-out villa that reflects the sky by day and flickers with sunset hues by night. It’s the kind of architectural flex you’d expect from Killa Design, the studio behind Dubai’s Museum of the Future. Inside, Toronto-based Paolo Ferrari’s interiors feel like stepping onto a private yacht – curved leather walls, tailored fittings, and sculptural design that’s not overdone. The vibe? Futureforward luxury with an off-the-map soul. But what makes this eco-luxury haven truly one-of-a-kind is what’s underneath: solarpowered infrastructure, zero-impact builds, and marine-sensitive engineering that barely touches the reef below.

SIX SENSES SOUTHERN DUNES, THE RED SEA

Like all their properties, a stay at Six Senses is designed to sedate wanderlust. For desert dreamers, Six Senses offers a grounding contrast to the aquatic draw of the coast. Tucked into a sweep of golden dunes and set against the backdrop of the Hijaz Mountains, this wellness-first hideaway feels like you're in touch with natural beauty with its organic architecture, intelligent cooling systems, and desert views from every angle.

Whether you’re checking in for an ayurvedic detox or just long lunches under the desert sun, the experience here is intuitive, immersive, and deeply still.

DESERT ROCK RESORT

Set within ancient stone formations and mountain valleys near The Red Sea, Desert Rock is all about living with nature. Villas are built directly into the cliffs, seamlessly carved into the terrain, creating the feeling of a luxe cave dwelling with an otherworldly view. There’s no shortage of adventures at Desert Rock, from stargazing sessions and hiking trails to signature spa rituals. Each feels almost spiritual and full of raw, magnetic power making for an unforgettable stay.

THE CHEDI HEGRA

The only hotel located within the Hegra UNESCO World Heritage Site; The Chedi Hegra brings its minimalist elegance to Saudi’s most historic setting. The property is backed by sandstone and ancient rock formations. For the summer, it boasts curated retreats rooted in rituals, offering guests a mindful and cinematic experience of AlUla’s rare beauty – think desert yoga, moonlit meditation, and walks through centuries-old landscapes.

SUMMER VIBES

Nazli Sonmez Vallee, Chief Brand Officer at Rikas Hospitality Group, shares how Gigi Rigolatto brings Italian glamour to the Aegean Sea

WORDS: SARAH JOSEPH

Describe the guest journey at Gigi Bodrum – what sets this summer pop-up apart from other luxury beachside concepts? Nestled inside the Mandarin Oriental, Bodrum, Gigi welcomes you with a breathtaking view of the beach and the endless Aegean, a setting so dreamy it feels like you’ve slipped away into another world. Here, time doesn’t tick – it flows. You arrive for a sun-kissed lunch, and suddenly it’s sunset… a Bellini in hand, live music in the air, and dinner just beginning. Gigi is more than a destination, it’s a state of mind, where every moment stretches, every detail is delicious, and the vibe is always Alla Grande Before you leave? A stroll through the Gigi Boutique, of course. A little something to take the feeling home.

How do you blend the DNA of Gigi – Italian flair and Parisian elegance – with the soul of Bodrum? Bodrum has a magic of its own – it’s soulful, sun-drenched, effortlessly elegant. At Gigi, we embraced that spirit by creating a place that feels both glamourous and grounded. We brought Gigi’s Italian flair and Parisian art de vivre, but let Bodrum lead the rhythm – long, leisurely lunches, golden light over the sea, a soundtrack of cicadas and clinking glasses. The materials, the mood, the energy – everything is designed to reflect the raw beauty and warmth of the Aegean, while staying true to Gigi’s signature lifestyle. It’s a cultural conversation between the Riviera and the Turkish coast – and it just works.

Can you walk us through the culinary concept – what regions of Italy are most represented in the menu? Our menu is deeply inspired by Southern Italy, particularly the sundrenched flavours of the Amalfi Coast. You will find an abundance of fresh tomatoes, olives, buffalo mozzarella, and freshly caught seafood, alongside beloved classics like spaghetti alle vongole, eggplant parmigiana, and grilled whole fish. It’s all about simple, rustic cooking – generous in flavor, rooted in tradition, and centered around fresh, high-quality ingredients. We want every dish to feel warm, vibrant, and authentically Southern Italian – the kind of food you’d enjoy at a family table by the sea. What was the creative brief for Bodrum, and how was it tailored to the landscape? The brief for Bodrum was to bring the spirit of Gigi’s Mediterranean glamour into harmony with the natural beauty of the Turkish Riviera. We imagined a space that feels sun-washed, textured, and intimate – drawing from the raw elegance of Italian design while embracing the Aegean’s warmth and openness. The architecture plays with contrasts: earthy materials and refined finishes, bold forms and soft lighting, always framing the sea and landscape like living artworks. The goal was to create a place that feels both rooted and elevated – where the atmosphere invites long lunches, slow sunsets, and shared moments, all in true Gigi style.

“Gigi is more than a destination, it’s a state of mind, where every moment stretches”

of a constantly reinvented Dolce Vita. The music is key: our playlist comes to life through talented live musicians, blending jazz, iconic songs from the ’50s and ’60s, and timeless hits from both Italian and international artists. It’s not just the background, it’s the atmosphere. Singers and musicians interact with the room, getting people to sing, sway, and celebrate together. The crowd is just as curated as the soundtrack – a mix of elegant locals, jet-set regulars, and curious travellers, all drawn by that signature Gigi energy. It’s about setting a tone that’s refined yet spontaneous, where the mood shifts with the sun and every moment feels like it could only happen at Gigi.

Gigi has already made its mark in Paris, Saint-Tropez, and Dubai. What made Bodrum the next perfect destination? Bodrum has that rare balance of natural beauty, cultural depth, and effortless sophistication – it feels both vibrant and serene. Much like Gigi, it draws a cosmopolitan crowd that appreciates great food, beautiful design, and unforgettable moments. Perched on the Aegean, Bodrum is where long days melt into golden evenings, and that spirit of leisure and celebration aligns perfectly with Gigi’s Alla Grande lifestyle. It was the natural next step – not just a location, but a feeling that mirrors everything Gigi stands for.

Gigi isn’t just a restaurant – it’s a cultural experience. How do you curate the music, crowd, and mood? At Gigi, we create what we call “Le sens de la fête.” Entering Gigi Rigolatto is like vibrating to the rhythm

How does the space at Mandarin Oriental enhance the Gigi experience – from views to vibe? The setting at Mandarin Oriental, Bodrum is pure magic – it’s like Gigi was meant to live here. From the moment you arrive, you're met with panoramic views of the Aegean, golden light, and a breeze that carries the scent of summer. The architecture and natural surroundings elevate every detail of the Gigi experience – from long, leisurely lunches with sea views, to sunset aperitivos at the Bellini Bar, and dinners under the stars. It’s intimate yet grand, grounded in the beauty of Bodrum but infused with Gigi’s unmistakable flair. At Gigi Bodrum, you don’t just dine, you escape.

This is The High Summer Issue – where’s your favourite place to escape the heat? If not at Gigi in Bodrum, then always our family house in Datça.

Jacquemus brings a slice of Riviera to the cultfavourite Balearic spot

Jondal, timed with the height of island season

Beach takeovers are nothing new, but what makes this synergy stand out from the rest lies beyond aesthetic, but rather on an atmosphere that is done right. It’s a sublime showcase of total escapism and the art of doing nothing in the golden days of summer.

THE MOOD

Set along the crystalline coastline, the loved locale becomes the canvas for Jacquemus. Re-designed and meticulously branded, Jondal embodies the Provençal DNA of the French fashion label. The charming on-site pop-up boutique houses a limited-edition capsule collection, featuring selections for women, men, and accessories in exclusive colourways and prints.

THE DINING

Helmed by Seville-born and former El Bulli chef Rafael Zafra, Jondal is renowned for its refined Mediterranean plates – the kind that effortlessly impresses. The cuisine is a nod to Ibizan simplicity and abundance, loved by insiders and tastemakers who make an annual pilgrimage to the Balearic island. For this takeover, the menu stayed true to Jondal. Think grilled langoustines, fried anchovies with spicy lemon mayonnaise, caviar pasta, and heirloom tomatoes dressed in oil.
