Hoy me encuentro lleno de gratitud y emoción al celebrar un hito significativo en la historia de Mosso: nuestros 35 años de vida. Este logro no hubiera sido posible sin cada uno de mis amigos y colaboradores, quienes han sido los que han hecho brillar a esta empresa a lo largo de las décadas. Mirando atrás en el tiempo, recuerdo cómo comenzamos como una casa en Providencia, llenos de sueños y pasión por el arte de crear piezas únicas. Hoy, nos encontramos en una posición destacada en la industria del lujo y eso es gracias a la dedicación y el esfuerzo incansable de todos los que forman parte de esta familia. Quiero expresar mi más sincero agradecimiento a cada uno de ustedes, desde los maestros joyeros que dan vida a nuestras creaciones hasta los vendedores que hacen de cada joya algo único. A nuestros leales clientes, quiero expresarles mi sincera gratitud. Ustedes han confiado en nosotros para celebrar momentos importantes de sus vidas, desde aniversarios de matrimonio hasta pedidas de mano, y eso es un honor que llevamos con humildad y orgullo. Today I find myself full of gratitude and emotion at celebrating a very significant event in the history of Mosso: The commemoration of our 35th anniversary of existence. This achievement wouldn´t have been possible without each and every single one of my friends and collaborators, who have been the ones who are responsible for making lifestyle brand shine throughout all these decades. Looking back in time, I still remember the times in which we started as a manufacturing house in Providencia, full of dreams and passion for the art of creating unique pieces. Today we find ourselves in a privileged position in the high-end luxury industry and that is thanks to the dedication and tireless effort of all the ones who form part of this family. I wish to express my most sincere gratefulness to each and every one of you, ranging from our jewelers who bring life to our creations to our salespeople/salesmen who turn purchasing each jewel into a unique experience. To our loyal clients: I wish to express my sincere appraisal. You have trusted in us to celebrate important moments in your lives, including weddings up to marriage proposals and that is an honor which we carry with humbleness and pride. NACE ANTIQUE & GENEVE THE BIRTH OF ANTIQUE & GENEVE

Ernesto Mosso abre Antique&Geneve, su primera tienda de antigüedades, joyería y relojes en el paseo La Villa en Providencia. De esta manera, se instala en Chile en el barrio de General Holley, por entonces el núcleo urbano por excelencia del lujo y la moda en Santiago de Chile. Ernesto Mosso inaugurates Antique&Geneve, his first boutique of antiques, jewelry and watches located on “La Villa” in Providencia. In this manner he settled in the “General Holley” neighborhood. Gracias al pedido especial de una importante clienta, Ernesto Mosso comenzaría un camino dentro de la joyería que lo ha llevado a ser un referente en el rubro hasta el día de hoy. 24

"Victoria" is born, the first ring designed by Ernesto Mosso and together with it, his passion for designing jewelry was born. Thanks to a special order from an important client, Ernesto Mosso would begin a path within the jewelry business that has led him to be a reference in the luxury industry up to the present day.

LA LLEGADA DE HUBLOT THE ARRIVAL OF HUBLOT

Hublot se incorpora como la primera representación de relojes de lujo de MOSSO. Esto significó la primera representación de marcas de relojes de lujo con presencia internacional. Tras la llegada de Hublot vendrían más de 20 marcas de lujo a sumarse a la familia Mosso. Hublot is incorporated as the first brand of watches in MOSSO luxury. This meant that Hublot was the first partnership of a brand of luxury watches with an international presence that MOSSO had. After the arrival of Hublot more than twenty brands would eventually join the MOSSO family.

The MaxiWatch and MiniWatch are born, the first Mosso watches designed in Chile and manufactured in Switzerland. Ernesto Mosso creates the avant-garde MaxiWatch women's line, which became an iconic watch designed in Chile, which would eventually become a reference in the watchmaking world.

RECONOCIMIENTO INTERNACIONAL A ERNESTO MOSSO INTERNATIONAL RECOGNITION TO ERNESTO MOSSO Ernesto Mosso es reconocido como uno de los 8 mejores diseñadores de joyas de Latinoamérica en la importante Couture Fair en Estados Unidos. Este es el primer reconocimiento internacional que recibe el joyero tras el cual vendrían muchas más, gracias a su innegable talento para el diseño de joyas y relojes.

Ernesto Mosso is recognized as one of the eight best Latin American jewelry designers in the important Couture Fair in the United States. This is the first international recognition that the jeweler receives after which many more would eventually come, thanks to his undeniable talent for designing jewelry and watches. 27

“NEW SECCOLO”, EL ANILLO DE COMPROMISO “NEW SECCOLO”, THE RING OF COMMITMENT 28

Nace "New Seccolo", anillo diseñado por Ernesto Mosso en honor a su entonces futura esposa, Claudia Larraguibel. Este diseño marcó un antes y un después en la vida tanto personal como profesional de Ernesto, haciendo de este anillo un joya de enorme importancia en su vida y que luego sería objeto de deseo de muchas mujeres. "New Seccolo" is born, a ring designed by Ernesto Mosso in honor of his then future wife, Claudia Larraguibel. This design marked a before and an after in both the personal and professional life of Ernesto, making this ring a jewel of enormous importance in his life which would later become the object of desire of many women.

APARECE MOSSO SPORT MOSSO SPORT APPEARS Se lanza MOSSO SPORT “Cabo de Hornos”, reloj con el que Felipe Cubillos dio la vuelta al mundo en vela. Más tarde, en el año 2010 nace la línea OVERDRIVE RACING, inspirada en el automovilismo, con un testimonio del piloto Boris Garafulic con motivo del Dakar.

El reportaje no sólo lo expone como un absoluto referente del mercado del lujo, sino también como un conocedor del buen gusto en todas sus dimensiones. The Chilean edition of Elle Magazine invites Ernesto to be part of his “Cloakroom” section, in which for the first time he opens the door to his world and vision of personal style. The report does not only expose it as an absolute reference for the luxury market, but also, as a connoisseur of good taste in all its dimensions.

NACE EL RELOJ “NOI CENTO” THE “NOI CENTO” WATCH IS BORN Inspirado por la búsqueda del primer submarino chileno en Valparaíso, MOSSO estrena la primera pieza diseñada íntegramente por Ernesto Mosso. Se trata del reloj “Noi Cento”, un reloj que reúne tecnología y manufactura suiza de primer nivel. Sin duda, una pieza icónica de la marca y pionera en el sector de la relojería del lujo nacional.

Inspired by the search for the first Chilean submarine in Valparaíso, MOSSO debuts the first piece designed entirely by Ernesto Mosso. This is the “Noi Cento” watch, a watch that It brings together toplevel Swiss technology and manufacturing. IN THE HEART OF VITACURA La Casa Matriz de MOSSO se traslada a Avenida Luis Pasteur, en Vitacura. El edificio Versalles, ubicado en el corazón de la comuna, representa toda la elegancia de una boutique como Mosso. 600 metros cuadrados de lujo se toman la esquina con la calle Lo Arcaya y se convierten en un polo fundamental del mundo de la joyería en Santiago.

The Headquarters of MOSSO is transferred to “Avenida Luis Pasteur”, in Vitacura. The “Versalles” building, located in the heart of the commune, represents all the elegance of a boutique like Mosso. It is composed by 600 square meters of luxury; as it would eventually be able to take over the corner with “Camino Lo Arcaya” and become a fundamental pole of the jewelry world in Santiago.

2000 The year 2000 is a vitally relevant one for the MOSSO world. One of the truest passions of Ernesto Mosso became tangible with the spectacular introduction of the MOSSO Polo Team into the field. Dentro de la boutique de Luis Pasteur, se inaugura el primer taller de joyería a la vista, único en la ciudad. Mesas antiguas de madera, materiales de primera calidad y joyeros artesanos de primera categoría hacen de este lugar un espacio llamativo y romántico, que evoca a los antiguos talleres más emblemáticos de Europa. Inside the boutique located in “Luis Pasteur's”, the first workshop is inaugurated with jewelry on display, which was a new innovation which was never seen before in the city of Santiago. The boutique included antique wooden tables, top quality materials and professional artisan jewelers which made the location unique in it´s category. As this was able to turn this location into a striking and romantic space, which rightfully evokes the most emblematic old workshops in Europe.

Se destaca no sólo su ubicación, sino también su imponente fachada y el diseño de sus espacios para crear la mejor experiencia para sus clientes.

MOSSO opens the doors of its headquarters to the press and media, making several appearances that would highlight this milestone as a true achievement in the Chilean luxury world. ABRE LA PRIMERA BOUTIQUE EN ESTADOS UNIDOS

MOSSO se internacionaliza este año. Apertura de la primera boutique en Estados Unidos con la inauguración de su primera tienda en Miami, Estados Unidos. Su llegada al estado de Florida es con bombos y platillos, en la que destacan los diseños y colecciones manufacturados en Chile. MOSSO becomes an internationalized brand in that year. The first boutique is inaugurated in the United States (US) with the opening of the first store in Miami. Mosso’s arrival to the state of Florida was received wholeheartedly, as its designs and collections manufactured in Chile were highlighted.

EL REY JUAN CARLOS I DE ESPAÑA RECIBE UN RELOJ MOSSO KING JUAN CARLOS I OF SPAIN RECEIVES A MOSSO WATCH En el marco de su tercera visita de Estado a Chile, el Rey Juan Carlos I de España recibe un reloj MOSSO de manos del alcalde de Santiago, Joaquín Lavín, quien también le impuso la medalla “Santiago de la Nueva Extremadura”, otorgada por la Municipalidad de Santiago para rendir homenaje a visitas ilustres históricas de la capital chilena. The unparalleled mountain landscape of the hot springs of “Chillán” became the backdrop background for the fifth version of its Snow Polo Championship, which was hosted by MOSSO in this occasion. This would become an absolutely unique spectacle in Chile, in which the beauty of the snows of the Andes mountains would merge with the adrenaline and passion of equestrian sports.

The MOSSO Lounge is born, a space that seeks excellence in customer service to provide its clients with a luxurious experience. Located on the second floor of the Luis Pasteur store and in charge of the chef Isidora Martínez, this place is perfect to welcome our clients with a high-quality sparkling wine or with our own specially crafted cocktails to transform our events and encounters into intimately unforgettable moments. 39

GANADORES EN CACHAGUA WINNERS IN CACHAGUA El equipo MOSSO-BMW gana la Copa Master de Cachagua, ingresando al Alto Handicap de Polo en Chile en Enero de este año. Este triunfo es uno de los más importantes de la trayectoria del equipo. The MOSSO-BMW team wins the Cachagua Master Cup, entering the High Handicap Polo in Chile in the month of January of this year. This victory is one of the most important in the career of the team.

2012

BIENVENIDO X-RAID WELCOME X-RAID Nace la colección de relojes "X-Raid", pensada especialmente para participar en el BMW X-Raid. El lanzamiento de esta línea, que es una edición limitada especialmente diseñada por Ernesto y con manufactura en Suiza, estuvo pensada para que Boris Garafulic, del equipo BMW X-Raid Team, compitiera en el Dakar ArgentinaChile. La exitosa experiencia se repetiría en el Dakar 2013. The "X-Raid" watch collection is born, which was specifically designed to participate in the BMW X-Raid. The launch of this line, which was a specially crafted limited edition designed by Ernesto Mosso and manufactured in Switzerland, was created in the honor of Boris Garafulic and the BMW X-Raid Team to compete in the Dakar Argentina-Chile rally of that year. CREACIÓN DE FAMIGLIA MOSSO THE BIRTH OF THE FAMIGLIA MOSSO WINE Otra de las pasiones de la familia Mosso se hace realidad. Se trata de la creación de los vinos “Famiglia MOSSO”, un producto de primera calidad que llega para quedarse entre los vinos más recomendados por los expertos de ese año. Las cepas disponibles son Malbec, Rosé y un Blend de partidas pequeñas, consolidándose como un viñedo boutique. Se ubica en la Finca Lunlunta, que ha pertenecido a la familia Mosso desde 1932, que se encuentra sobre la margen norte del Río Mendoza, en Argentina, lugar de origen de Ernesto Mosso. "Este es, para mí, un proyecto más del alma que un negocio. Es una forma de honrar a nuestros antepasados". Another one of the passions of the Mosso Family becomes true. We are talking about the launch of the “Famiglia MOSSO” wines, a top-quality product that would stay among the most recommended wines by experts throughout that year. The strains available are Malbec, Rosé and a small batch Blend, whose quality made the “Famiglia Mosso” site consolidate itself as a boutique vineyard. It is located inside the Lunlunta farm, which is located on the northern bank of the Mendoza River (Which is in Argentina, the birthplace of Ernesto Mosso) and has belonged to the Mosso family since 1932. As Ernesto said when asked about its meaning: “This is much more of a soulful project than a business. It’s a way of honoring our ancestors”. 43

JOYAS PARA VESTIR EL FUTURO JEWELRY TO EMBELLISH THE FUTURE Desde que escribo esta columna, hace ya varios años, he reflexionado sobre tendencias que dan la vuelta al mundo y contingencias que han marcado ciertos períodos de la humanidad por la potencia de sus hechos. Pero curiosamente, nunca he profundizado sobre el tema que da nombre a esta publicación y que inspira la marca que la alberga: las joyas. Nada tienen de superficial estos accesorios, que desde que el hombre existe en la tierra, han significado poder, estatus y jerarquía. Han sido detonantes de guerra o la mejor forma de declarar un amor eterno. Han inspirado libros y películas y su belleza innegable, las convierte en un objeto deseable a lo largo de los siglos. Los primeros seres humanos, al descubrir piedras brillantes y metales preciosos, se sintieron atraídos por su brillo y resplandor. Estos objetos naturales se convirtieron en los primeros adornos personales y en el inicio de una larga tradición de apreciar y utilizar joyas que perdura hasta hoy. Imposible no detenerse en un mostrador de joyas o no comentar la selección de la monarquía europea en algún acto protocolar. En las antiguas civilizaciones, las joyas desempeñaron un papel crucial en la expresión de la identidad cultural y religiosa. Por ejemplo, en el antiguo Egipto, las joyas se asociaban con la vida eterna por lo que los faraones usaban sus piezas más valiosas en su paso al más allá. Además de su valor simbólico, las joyas también han tenido un impacto económico significativo. La búsqueda de gemas y metales preciosos llevaron a la exploración y colonización de nuevas tierras y la apertura de rutas comerciales que se establecieron para facilitar el intercambio de joyas entre diferentes partes del mundo. Y si bien su presencia ha marcado la historia, en el presente también tienen mucho que decir. Porque las joyas han seguido siendo un importante símbolo de estatus y expresión personal. Since I wrote this column several years ago, I have reflected about the trends that go around the world and contingencies that have marked certain periods of humanity by the power of their facts. But curiously, I have never delved into the field that gives its name to this publication and that inspires the brand that houses it: the jewels. There is nothing superficial about these accessories, which have meant power, status and hierarchy since men have existed on this earth. They have either been the causes behind wars or the best way to declare eternal love. They have inspired books and movies with their undeniable beauty, as those attributes make made them become desirable objects throughout the centuries. The first humans, discovering shiny stones and precious metals were attracted by their brilliance and radiance. These natural objects became the first personal ornaments and the beginning of a long tradition of wearing and appreciating jewelry that lasts until today. It is impossible to not to look at a jewelry counter or to avoid commenting on the selection of the European monarchy in any protocolar event. In ancient civilizations, jewelry played a crucial role in the expression of cultural and religious identities. For example, jewelry was associated with eternal life in Ancient Egypt because the pharaohs wore their most valuable pieces on their way to the afterlife. In addition to its symbolic value, jewelry has also had a significant economic impact. The search for gems and precious metals led to the exploration and colonization of new lands and the opening of trade routes that were established to facilitate the jewelry trade between the different parts of the world. And although its presence has marked history, we still have a lot to say in the present. Because jewels have continued to be an important symbol of social status and personal expression. They have evolved in their design and use, adapting to trends and changing their styles. The jewelry industry has grown enormously, offering a wide range of options to suit the tastes and preferences of people around the world. Jewelry is a valuable expression of human creativity and the appreciation of beauty in all its forms. They have that noble origin of stone and metal, elements that never die and that endure despite the changes and volatility of life. And in a world where everything seems so liquid and uncertain, that perennial value which can be embodied by a ring or a necklace, augurs a fortunate future to the jewelry world, with a healthy dose of history that does not do more than enriching your brilliant existence.

¿Qué te inspiró a convertirte en artista y cómo ha evolucionado tu trabajo a lo largo de los años? La inspiración que impulsa mi trabajo es el ritual. Mi práctica siempre ha estado ligada al pasado, a través de investigaciones sobre narrativas históricas para crear esculturas, instalaciones, tapicerías e investiduras a partir de documentaciones principalmente de archivos clásicos. Trato de recuperar rituales ancestrales relacionados con lugares sagrados, geografía ancestral y memoria originaria. El propósito principal de mi trabajo es revalidar el lugar de la mujer a lo largo de la historia y utilizar su práctica de tejer a partir de narrativas históricas como una metáfora de resistencia, donde las narrativas tejidas se retratan como un sustituto del silencio de las mujeres a lo largo de la historia. El arte debería servir a los propósitos de su tiempo y funcionar siempre como activista de la conciencia. Al utilizar el tejido como metáfora de resistencia, estas obras en papel nos acercan a nuestra identidad cultural. Las esculturas entrelazadas, resultado de un proceso de trabajo manual sistemático, están hechas para ser usadas como investiduras y se convierten en una frágil armadura, ligera y pesada, que se coloca sobre hombros femeninos como una metáfora de resistencia. Estas narraciones tejidas se podrían considerar como una sustitución de la palabra, para que el tejido pueda representar lo que las palabras no pueden decir.

What inspired you to become an artist and how has your work evolved throughout the years? Rituals are the inspiration that drive my work. My practice always has been linked to the past, through research on historical narratives to create sculptures, installations, tapestries and investitures based on documentation mainly from the classical historical archives. I try to recover ancestral rituals related to sacred places, ancestral geography and the authentic memory of their origins. The main purpose of my work is to revalidate the place of women throughout history and to utilize their practice of weaving from historical narratives as a metaphor of resistance, where these interwoven narratives are portrayed as a substitute for the silence that women have kept throughout history. Art should serve the purposes of its time and always function as conscious activist. By using the fabric as metaphor of resistance, these paper works are able to bring us closer to our cultural identity. The intertwined sculptures which are the result of a systematic manual work process, are made to be used as investitures and become a light or heavy fragile armor, which shall be placed on female shoulders as a metaphor of resistance. These woven narratives could be considered as a substitution of spoken or written words, so that the fabrics can represent what words cannot possibly express.

Your current exhibition in London is generating great interest. What messages or emotions do you hope to convey through your works? The representation of myths, through the interdisciplinary use of fabric, text and sound, instills a divine feminine presence in the worship space, historically devoid of feminine energy, in order to appreciate the essential contributions that women have provided to human civilization in the political, spiritual and practical spheres.

Como artista chilena, ¿cómo has influido tu origen y tu cultura en tu trabajo? ¿Hay elementos o temas específicos de Chile que se reflejen en tu arte? Mi trabajo está basado en los origines, en la memoria ancestral. El tejido, la astrología, la mitología, la arquitectura, la música, los espacios sagrados; nos demuestran cómo ciertas geografías comparten afinidades creativas universales y mutuas. Me interesa reflexionar sobre las narrativas de desplazamiento y transitar lugares extra-geográficos, conectar con el valor y la revalorización de las culturas y tradiciones transitando desde lo arcaico hacia temas de la contingencia. La escena artística en Londres es muy diversa y competitiva. ¿Cómo te sientes al exponer tu trabajo en una ciudad tan internacional y con una rica tradición artística? ¿Qué desafíos y oportunidades has encontrado en este contexto? La posibilidad de trabajar en Londres, donde tengo mi studio hace algunos años, me ha permitido estar en constante intercambio con artistas, instituciones, técnicos, proveedores, entre otros, de un alto nivel de calidad. Si bien con la exigencia es extrema, los desafíos están acompañados de grandes experiencias y aprendizaje.

As a Chilean artist, how have your culture and origins influenced you in your job? Are there specific Chilean themes or element which are reflected in your art? My work is based on origins, on ancestral memory. Weaving, astrology, mythology, architecture, music and sacred spaces show us how certain geographies share universal and mutual creative affinities. I'm interested in reflecting about narratives of displacement and to travel through extra-geographical places, in order to be able to connect with the value and revaluation of cultures and traditions moving from the archaic to the contingent themes. The art scene in London is very diverse and competitive. How do you feel about exhibiting your work in such a cosmopolitan city with such a rich artistic tradition? What challenges and opportunities have you found in this context? The possibility of working in London, where I have established my studio since a few years ago, has allowed me to be in constant exchange with artists, institutions, technicians, suppliers and among other professionals of a high-quality level. Although the demands are extreme, the challenges are accompanied by great experiences and opportunities to acquire knowledge.

En el mundo del arte, la tecnología está desempeñando un papel cada vez más importante. ¿Cómo incorporas la tecnología en tu proceso creativo o en tus obras? ¿Crees que esto ha influido en la forma en que el público percibe y se relaciona con tu arte? Los libros que son la materia prima de mis obras, son libros abandonados desde la industria editorial, son reciclados y tratados sin alteración. La forma de tejido es también totalmente hecha a mano, sostenible; esta técnica de tejido que he desarrollado, que es como un “IN SET” - Encastre - permite que el delicado material del papel adquiera durabilidad y se convierta en una estructura robusta. El tejido está diseñado con un patrón escalonado inspirado en las ruinas sagradas y los antiguos andamios textiles utilizados en las culturas andinas. A través de mi práctica, busco conectar con la tecnología desde un trabajo consciente, usando técnicas que respeten el medio ambiente generando un diálogo entre conservación e innovación, continuidad y transmutación; combinando tradiciones locales con tendencias globales. El rescate de tecnologías ancestrales es un lugar desde donde, creo, el público se ha relacionado y acercado a mi obra.

Technology is playing an increasingly important role in the art world. How do you incorporate technology in your creative process or into your works? Do you think that this has influenced the way the public perceives and connects itself to your art? The books that are the raw material of my works are books abandoned from the publishing industry, they are recycled and treated without alteration. The way of weaving is also completely handmade and sustainable; this weaving technique that I have developed, which is like an “IN SET” - Encasing - allows the delicate material of paper to acquire durability and become a robust structure. Tudor, with its proud history of collaboration with the Armed Forces of the United States (US) since the decade of 1950, has cultivated an alliance which has given fruits with the passage of time, providing vigorous watches like the Oyster Prince Submariner for their critical missions, which range from elite diving operations up to the maintenance of submarines. In 2023, Tudor gives homage to this tradition by introducing the Tudor Pelagos FXD. The silk of our scarves, which are hand-sewn and manufactured in the city of Como, Italy, is as elegant as its striking and colorful prints. Silk, as a material, has a long history dating back thousands of years. Its production originated in China, where it was considered a national treasure and a status symbol. Over the centuries, silk has spread throughout the world and has maintained its reputation as one of the most valuable and exquisite fibers available. One of the most outstanding qualities of silk scarves is their lightness and fluidity. They adapt to the shape of the body with elegance and can be worn in multiple ways: knotted around the collar, as a hair accessory, or even as a belt. This versatility makes silk scarves a perfect addition to any wardrobe, whether for everyday use or for special occasions. Our new scarves are much more than just fashion accessories. They are symbols of elegance and sophistication, with a rich history and timeless beauty. To me, one of the most exciting events inside the process of developing our new line was to see my daughter Giulianna Mosso as their model. Con 49 años y una impresionante carrera como perfumista, el francés Olivier Polge es hoy una de las narices más importantes de la industria. Hijo de Jacques Polge, conocido por perpetuar el legado de Henri Robert -creador del primer perfume masculino de Chanel, Pour Monsieur-, Olivier lleva una buena parte de su vida familiarizándose con los ingredientes y los aromas que componen la atmósfera fragante de Chanel. Aunque este año cumple 10 años a cargo de los laboratorios, Olivier lleva buena parte de su vida estableciendo una relación única con su pasión por los perfumes a través de la casa francesa. Olivier tenía sólo 4 años cuando su padre tomó las riendas de Henri Robert en el laboratorio. No obstante, el hecho de estar rodeado constantemente de esencias, ingredientes exóticos y flores delicadas no lo convencieron en un principio para seguir la carrera de su padre. Fue así como luego de su adolescencia optó por estudiar historia del arte, mientras comenzaba a sentir una necesidad de expresión creativa que aún no encontraba un sentido práctico. Indeciso e impaciente, Olivier investigó en escuelas de diseño y artes aplicadas para encontrar alguna disciplina que alimentara su impulso creativo. Mientras tanto, dedicó veranos completos para trabajar bajo el alero de su padre en el Laboratorio de Fragancias Chanel. At 49 years old and with an impressive career as a perfumer, the Frenchman Olivier Polge is currently one of the most important noses of the industry. Son of Jacques Polge, known for perpetuating the legacy of Henri Robert -creator of the first men's perfume Chanel, Pour Monsieur- Olivier invested a good part of his life becoming familiar with the ingredients and aromas that make up the fragrant atmosphere of Chanel. Although this is his tenth year in charge of the laboratories, Olivier has spent much of his life establishing a unique relationship with his passion for perfumes through the French house. Olivier was only four years old when his father took the reins of

Henri Robert’s legacy in the laboratory. However, the fact of being constantly surrounded by essences, exotic ingredients and delicate flowers did not immediately convince him to continue his father's career. This was the reason behind the fact that after his adolescence he chose to study the history of art, while he began to feel a need for expressive creativity that had not yet found any practical meaning. Indecisive and impatient, Olivier studied in design and applied arts schools to find a discipline that could fuel his creative impulse. In the meantime, he spent full summers working under the eaves of his father in the Laboratory from Chanel Fragrances. Little by little he discovered a fascination in the metamorphosis of its ingredients as he learned about their extraction and careful handling. Then something clicked inside him.

He began olfactory training at Charabot, a French company of aromatic products where the one and only Ernest Beaux -creator of the iconic Chanel No5- worked at, after which he studied composition in Geneva. During those years he achieved his first great contract with IFF (International Flavors & Fragrances), as he temporarily lived in New York to enter into the competitive world of creating fragrances. This is how he managed to be part of the creative teams of renowned perfumes such as Flowerbomb by Viktor & Rolf and Dior Homme. Reaping his first successes and obtaining recognition in the industry, Olivier returned to Paris in order to make a name for himself in the business by making himself known as one of the great precursors of the inclusion of leather in the range of materials available in perfumery. 103

En nuestro país, la primavera se despliega con una magnificencia única. Desde la cordillera a las costas, es un escenario impresionante para recibir esta estación de renacimiento. Desde mi perspectiva como un apasionado usuario de perfumes de lujo, me parece que es la oportunidad perfecta para explorar nuevas fragancias que reflejen la riqueza de la primavera. En mi búsqueda constante de experiencias sensoriales, he descubierto que los perfumes de lujo son como joyas olfativas. Cada fragancia es como un diamante raro y precioso, meticulosamente creado para capturar la esencia de un momento en el tiempo. Al igual que un reloj, un perfume de alta calidad requiere atención meticulosa y habilidad artesanal. Cada nota y acorde se entrelazan en una composición que evoca emociones y recuerdos. Al aplicar el

perfume, es como ajustar una joya alrededor de mi cuello o colocar un reloj exquisitamente diseñado en mi muñeca. Cada vez que inhalo su aroma, es como admirar el brillo de un diamante o la precisión de las manecillas de un reloj, sintiendo cómo el tiempo se detiene por un momento mientras me sumerjo en una experiencia olfativa única. Just as spring is a time of rebirth and growth, I also see my fragrance choices as a form of personal growth. Dentro de este concepto, uno de los exponentes actuales más importantes es Jean-Paul Gaultier, diseñador francés que ha hecho de la Alta Costura su mejor forma de expresión y que en 2015 declaró que prefería dedicarse a esta rama de la moda, cerrando así su línea de prêt-à-porter. 108

Considered to be the most luxurious and way of working in the fashion industry, haute couture is highlighted not only by it´s craftmanship techniques and it´s valuation of jobs with a long tradition; but also, because it gives an environment to the fashion world which technologies like artificial intelligence will never be able to take over. This is because the norms of the “Chambre Syndicale de París”the entity which regulates haute couture facilities- are critical and explicit about who is inside and outside the original denomination which gives name to the most sublime in which clothing is designed and manufactured. Inside of this theme, one of the most important current representatives is Jean-Paul Gaultier, a French designer who made the most out of the haute couture industry and in the year 2015 declared that he preferred to dedicate himself to this branch of fashion; thereby closing his line known as prêt-à-porter.

Habiéndose adelantado a los ritmos de la industria, Gaultier ha hecho de la colaboración una máxima que ha aplicado a lo largo de toda su historia como couturier. No obstante, su aproximación a la Alta Costura siempre había sido desde el diseño de autor y -como es costumbre- bajo una celosa reserva de sus procesos creativos. Pero fue en 2020 que el diseñador francés comenzó a buscar nuevas maneras de impactar con su Alta Costura, encontrando en la colaboración una nueva forma de expresión. Así, Jean-Paul Gaultier deslumbró durante la Semana de la Alta Costura OtoñoInvierno 2021, estrenando su nueva estrategia junto a Chitose Abe, creadora japonesa que lleva un par de décadas haciendo historia detrás de la marca Sacai. El beneplácito de la prensa especializada alabando nuevos aires y una mirada fresca llevó a Gaultier a implementar este modelo en todas sus colecciones de Alta Costura, creando en torno a ellas un halo de expectativa y novedad propios del cobranding en moda. Having gone ahead of the rhythms of the industry, Gaultier has turned collaboration into a maxim that he has applied throughout his whole history as a couturier. Although his approach to haute couture had always been focused through the design of the author -as that is the norm- under a strict secrecy of their creative processes. But throughout the year 2020 the French designer began to look for new ways of impacting the haute couture industry, finding a new form of expression in collaboration. In this way Jean-Paul Gaultier had an outstanding performance during the Week of Haute Couture of Fall-Winter of the year 2021, launching his new strategy with Chitose Abe, the Japanese who has been making a history for the brand known as Sacai throughout a decade. The blessing of the press which is specialized in the field because of his innovation and a fresh creative outlook caused Gaultier to implement this model in all of his collections of haute couture, creating an aura of expectation and novelty which belong to fashion co-branding.

In this opportunity, Jean-Paul Gaultier recruited the talent of Julien Dossena, who is in charge of the creative department of Paco Rabanne. This, combined with the passing away of Rabanne in the month of February throughout this year, gave the catwalk the connotation of a homage which brings the legacy of the legendary Spanish designer back to life once again, who was of the most important legends of haute couture throughout the sixties. In this opportunity Dossena had a green light and the absolute trust of Gaultier to reinterpret the iconic archive of his brand during this catwalk. With a limited palette of metallic tones, ranging from white, black, bluish gestures and flashes of red, the collection was a festival of tight silhouettes of vibrant fabrics and mixed materials that turn each look into an explosive artifact. A neoclassical inspiration accompanies each look, immersing us in the iconography of the women of the belle époque who were illustrated in the work of Alphonse Mucha and who today come to life from the contemplation of the urban in a contemporary Paris that embraces, the same compass, diversity and conflict.

En esta oportunidad, Jean-Paul Gaultier reclutó el talento de Julien Dossena, quien está a cargo de la dirección creativa de Paco Rabanne. Esto, junto con el fallecimiento de Rabanne en febrero de este año, dio a la pasarela una connotación de homenaje que pone nuevamente en movimiento el legado del diseñador español, quien fue una de las leyendas más importantes de la Alta Costura de los años 60. Con una paleta acotada de tonos metálicos, blanco, negro, gestos azulados y destellos de rojo, la colección fue un festival de siluetas ceñidas de telas vibrantes y materialidades mixtas que convierten a cada look en un artefacto de rimbombancia. Una inspiración neoclásica acompaña a cada look, sumergiéndonos en la iconografía de las mujeres de la belle époque que quedaron ilustradas en la obra de Alphonse Mucha y que hoy cobran vida desde la contemplación de lo urbano en un París contemporáneo y que abraza, a un mismo compás, la diversidad y el conflicto. 110

En cuanto a los guiños del archivo Gaultier, Dossena toma elementos fundamentales: los estampados de trampantojo sobre telas transparentes, el clásico sostén cónico (utilizado por Madonna en su gira Blond Ambition Tour en 1990), así como una impecable sastrería de raya diplomática, la utilización de prendas construidas a partir de corbatas y su inconfundible iconografía náutica que ha traspasado las fronteras de la moda. Asimismo, la implementación de tocados en la totalidad de los looks nos habla de un Gaultier que nunca ha dejado de lado la dimensión estatuaria de la mujer contemporánea como reflejo de la belleza clásica. El impresionante trabajo de bordados, enmallados metálicos, enjoyado y accesorizaciones hace de Julien Dossena un nombre que, bajo la venia de un experimentado y vanguardista Gaultier, queda visado como un importante referente de la Alta Costura de nuestros tiempos. 112

“REVERSOS” EN EL MUSEO DEL PRADO "REVERSOS” IN THE PRADO MUSEUM Hasta el 3 de marzo de 2024, el Museo del Prado y la Fundación AXA presentan una exposición reveladora que muestra la cara oculta de las obras de arte: sus reversos. La muestra, compuesta por obras de la colección del Prado y préstamos de instituciones nacionales e internacionales, desvela el resultado de una exhaustiva investigación sobre los reversos de las piezas. Entre las destacadas se encuentran "Assemblage i graffiti" de Antoni Tàpies, "Cosme I de Médici" de di Cosimo il Bronzino, "Autorretrato como pintor" de Van Gogh, "Artista en su estudio" de Rembrandt y "La máscara vacía" de Magritte. Con cerca de un centenar de obras expuestas, la exposición ofrece una perspectiva fascinante de la otra cara del arte. El tourbillon vio la luz oficialmente el 26 de junio de 1801, gracias a la perspicacia científica y relojera de Abraham-Louis Breguet. Este visionario relojero observó que la gravedad terrestre afectaba a la regularidad de los movimientos de los relojes de la época, que solían llevarse de manera vertical. Las variaciones en la regulación eran provocadas por la gravedad, generando un problema que Breguet resolvió ingeniosamente al idear una solución única: colocar el conjunto del escape en una jaula móvil que giraba completamente cada minuto. Esta innovación aseguraba la reproducción regular de todas las variaciones y su compensación mutua. Además, el constante cambio del punto de contacto de los pivotes del volante en sus cojinetes de rubíes garantizaba una lubricación óptima. Así nació el tourbillon. Más de 220 años después, este mecanismo relojero sigue siendo una de las creaciones más fascinantes. Breguet rinde homenaje a esta invención al incorporarla a su colección Marine. La caja de 42,5 mm alberga el calibre de carga automática 581, un movimiento extrafino de 3 mm de grosor compuesto por 330 componentes. La delgadez de este movimiento se logra gracias al uso del rotor periférico. El volante late a una frecuencia de 4 Hz y cuenta con una impresionante reserva de marcha de 80 horas. Para incorporar las últimas innovaciones, el calibre incluye una jaula de titanio y una espiral de silicio, un material resistente a la corrosión, al desgaste y a la influencia de campos magnéticos. Los acabados del movimiento se revelan a través del fondo de zafiro de la caja, mostrando la rosa de los vientos en el tambor del barrilete y otras decoraciones características de la línea Marine, como las côtes droites. La esfera soleada de las referencias 5577 presenta un tono pizarra en la versión de oro rosa y azul marino en la de platino. El tourbillon, ubicado a las 5 en punto, atrae la atención con su jaula giratoria cada 60 segundos. Para destacar este mecanismo, la circunferencia de las horas está descentrada. Finalmente, los índices y las agujas de oro Breguet de tipo pomme son luminiscentes.

The tourbillon was officialy born on the 26 of June 1801, thanks to the scientific and watch-oriented ingenuity of Abraham-Louis Breguet. This visionary watchmaker observed that the earth’s gravity affected the regularity of the movements of the watches of the epoch, which used to be wore on a vertical manner. The variations in the regulation were generated by gravity, creating a problem that Breguet ingesiously solved by conceiving a unique idea: placing the whole escape inside a movile cage which completely turned every minute. This innovation ensured the regular reproduction of all the variations and their mutual compensation. Besides, the constant change of the pivoting points and their mutual compensation. Furthermore, optimal lubrication was guaranteed by constantly switching the point of contact of the steering wheel pivots on its ruby bearings. That’s how the Tourbillon was born. Even if more than 220 years have passed since then, this watch’s mechanism is still one of the most fascinating creations in the world of watches. Breguet offers homage to this invention by incorporating it to its Marine collection. The 42.5mm case houses the self-winding caliber 581, an extra-thin 3mm-thick movement composed by 330 components. The slimness of this movement is achieved thanks to the use of the peripheral rotor. The balance beats at a frequency of 4 Hz and has an impressive power reserve of 80 hours. To incorporate the latest innovations, the caliber includes a titanium cage and a silicon hairspring, a material resistant to corrosion, wear and the influence of magnetic fields. The finishes of the movement are revealed through the sapphire case, showing the compass rose on the barrel drum and other decorations which are characteristic of the Marine line, such as the côtes droites. The sunny dial of the 5577 reference features a slate tone in the rose gold version and navy blue in the platinum version. The tourbillon, located at 5 o'clock, attracts attention with its cage rotating every 60 seconds. To highlight this mechanism, the circumference of the hours is off-center. Finally, the gold Breguet pomme-type indices and hands are luminescent.

Recognized as an exceptional scientist and technician, AbrahamLouis Breguet joined the French Navy in the year 1814 after he was named as a member of the Office of Longitudes by a royal decree. This organism was dedicated to solve problems which are related with the determination of the longitude in the sea via astronomical methods. King Louis XVIII honored him by giving him the prestigious title of being the Watchman of the Royal Navy. Since then, the biggest fleets of the biggest cruisers sailed after being equipped with the chronometrical systems signed by Breguet. This new watch is, because of that, a double homage to the brand´s founder, because of its links with maritime navigation and with astronomy. 123

Una nueva fecha del tradicional rally de invierno italiano se vivió en Cortina d´Ampezzo. Este destino turístico de montaña es el más prestigioso y frecuentado en Italia por los amantes del esquí y deportes de invierno de Europa y el mundo. A esto se suma que Cortina será la sede junto a Milán de los J.J.O.O de invierno 2026, luego de haber sido sede hace 70 años, y la ciudad se encuentra remodelando su infraestructura. La Winterace ya es marca registrada dentro de las carreras que integran el calendario de la ASI, Automotoclub Storico Italiano. Cada año en el mes de marzo se reúnen cerca de 140 automóviles clasificados en 5 grupos: preguerra, postguerra, clásicos históricos, youngtimer y recientes. A new date for the traditional Italian winter rally took place in Cortina d'Ampezzo. This mountain tourist destination is the most prestigious and frequented in Italy by ski lovers and winter sports enthusiasts from Europe and the rest of the world. In addition to this, Cortina is remodeling its infrastructure as after 70 years it will once again become the headquarters of the Winter Olympics in the upcoming competition known by the name of Milano-Cortina 2026. The Winterace is already a registered trademark within the races that make up the calendar of the Automotoclub Storico Italiano (ASI). Every year in the month of March about 140 cars are summoned and are classified into five different groups: pre-war, post-war, historical classics, “Youngtimer” and recently made. Hospitality is provided by the traditional Hotel Savoia where a highly personalized service offers its guests with the unforgettable experience of being well attended in an excellent lodging.

El programa comenzó con el check-in en el hotel, procediendo al registro de pilotos y automóviles donde recibimos los road books y detalles de la organización. Me registré como piloto federado del ASI por la prestigiosa Scuderia Tazio Nuvolari y competí por Chile, junto a mi navegante Rafael Caviedes, con quien ya habíamos participado el año anterior. En esta ocasión reemplazamos la Lancia HF por un BMW modelo 1502 del año 1975, el cual preparamos mecánicamente durante meses para soportar la exigente montaña.

I registered as an ASI federated driver for the prestigious Scuderia Tazio Nuvolari and competed for Chile; along with my navigator Rafael Caviedes, with whom I had already participated during the previous year. In this time, we replaced the Lancia HF with a BMW model 1502 from 1975, which we mechanically prepared throughout months in order to ender the demanding mountain terrain. La largada de la 1era etapa se dio el día viernes en Cortina a las 8:30 am con dirección a la montaña nevada, pasando por el Passo Falzarego y parando a almorzar en Bressanone, ciudad que hasta la Primera Guerra Mundial perteneció al Imperio Austrohúngaro y donde hoy gran parte de la población sigue hablando alemán. Continuamos en dirección a San Pietro, Passo Gardena y el duro Passo Giau donde debimos enfrentar una dura y larga subida de caracol. The start of the first stage took place on Friday in Cortina at 8:30 a.m. heading to the snowy mountain, passing through the Passo Falzarego and stopping for lunch in Bressanone; a city that belonged to the Austro-Hungarian Empire until World War One (WW1) and where a large portion of the population continues to speak German until the current times. We continued driving towards the direction of San Pietro, Passo Gardena and the defiant roads of Passo Giau where we had to face a vast and complicated steep road. 125

Tuvimos algunos problemas de temperatura del motor antes de llegar a Bressanone que pudimos resolver reemplazando la tapa del radiador gracias a encontrar una pequeña tienda de repuestos de tractores en plena montaña, algo impensado. Solucionamos el imprevisto sin tener que llamar a la asistencia, lo que fue fundamental para reponer el tiempo perdido en ruta de lo contrario hubiese sido desfavorable. Llegamos con algo de atraso a la meta a las 17:30hrs cuando el cielo ya estaba oscuro, pero al final de cuentas lo habíamos logrado y los contratiempos pasaron a formar parte de las anécdotas de la competencia. We had some problems with our engine´s temperature before arriving in Bressanone, which we were fortunately able to solve by replacing the lid of the radiator thanks to the fact that we found a store that sold small parts for tractors in the middle of the mountains, something un-thinkable. We solved the unexpected challenge without having to call for assistance, which was essential in order to make up for the time lost on the route that could have otherwise be-come unfavorable. By 5:30 pm the sky was already dark and we had arrived a little late to our destination, but after all we had reached our objective and the setbacks that we faced became part of the competition’s anecdotes.

Nuestro desempeño mejoró en la segunda etapa al día siguiente, el BMW se portó magníficamente y logramos buenos tiempos que nos ayudaron a remontar en la tabla de posiciones alcanzando el lugar 29 dentro del corte de los 31 mejores en la tabla general entre los 140 participantes. Aparte de la satisfacción de haber superado los contratiempos y entrar en el selecto cuadro, disfrutamos el maravilloso paisaje nevado iluminado de un sol de atardecer en las localidades de: Misurina, Strassen y la ciudad austriaca de Lienz-Sonnestadt. En suelo austriaco y rodeado de manifestaciones artísticas tirolesas, fuimos recibidos por las autoridades junto con un centenar de fanáticos en la plaza mayor o Hautplatz, donde nuestro automóvil de origen bávaro fue uno de los más aplaudidos. Posteriormente disfrutamos de un almuerzo típico con sus tradicionales Schnitzel en el Gran Hotel Lienz. La carrera recomenzó en la Hautplatz para dirigirnos en dirección a San Candido, pasando por Bannberg y Sankt Justina. Our performance improved in the course of the second stage throughout the next day, The BMW performed magnificently and we achieved better timings that helped us climb our place in the competition´s ranking, attaining the 29th place within the range the 31 best drivers in the general table’s ranking among the 140 participants. Aside from the satisfaction of having overcome setbacks and entering the select painting, we enjoyed the wonderful snowy land-scape which was illuminated by an evening sun in the towns of: Misurina, Strassen and the Austrian city of Lienz-Sonnestadt. As we were on Austrian soil and surrounded by Tyrolean artistic manifestations, we were received by the authorities along with a hundred fans in the main square or Hautplatz, where our vehicle with Bavarian origin was one of the most ap-plauded. After we reached the Grand Hotel Lienz we enjoyed a typical lunch which included the traditional Schnitzel. The race started once again at the Hautplatz; leading us to the route towards San Candido, passing through Bannberg and Sankt Justina. 126

La llegada a Cortina d´Ampezzo fue acorde al reloj siendo las 17:00 hrs, donde fuimos saludados por el alcalde y los directores de la carrera, además de miles de residentes y turistas. Espontáneamente dos ciudadanos chilenos se acercaron a saludar, tomarse fotos y felicitarnos ya que nos escucharon por los parlantes mientras estábamos siendo entrevistados. Por la noche, asistimos a una cena de gala en compañía de pilotos mexicanos, siendo los únicos representantes latinoamericanos. Logramos con orgullo cruzar la meta en el cuadro de honor representando los colores de nuestra bandera chilena, sintiendo satisfacción de haber entregado lo mejor de nosotros en los dos duros días de carrera. Recomiendo esta carrera sin duda alguna, ya que es una de mis favoritas en suelo italiano debido a la exigencia en la conducción y los hermosos paisajes que se pueden disfrutar. Spontaneously two Chilean citizens approached us to address us, to take pictures with us and to congratulate us since they had heard us in the speakers while we were being interviewed. When nighttime arrived, we attended a gala dinner accompanied by Mexican pilots, being the only Latin American representatives. We proudly crossed the finish line with the unmatchable honor of representing the colors of our Chilean flag, feeling joyful-ly satisfied for having given the best of ourselves throughout the hard days of racing. I rec-ommend this race beyond a doubt, which is already one of my favorite ones located on Italian soil due to its difficult roads and the beautiful landscapes that can be admired. In the year 2004 “Born Wild Crocodile” -A crocodile shaped sculpture which was manufactured with red resin- became a new icon of the contemporary bestiary artwork, introducing the brilliance of Richard Orlinski into the art world. Since then, the professional career of the French artist has had a meteoric development, in an era in which pop art has had an important resignification as an artistic avant-garde category that is still immersed in the process of exploring diverse forms and contexts. EL DEPORTISTA DE LA PERSEVERANCIA THE SPORTSMAN OF PERSEVERANCE Con solo 24 años, el chileno Benjamín Hites Michelson sabe el significado del verbo triunfar. A los 5 años ya era un fanático del karting, tanto que llegó, a los 16 a estar en las ligas de los mejores, siempre impulsado por la pasión por los autos que le inculcó su papá, Marcos. Se autodefine como una persona apasionada y perseverante, como nos daremos cuenta en esta entrevista. En 2017, siendo juvenil, forja su futuro como piloto de autos en una de las categorías más competitivas del continente en Argentina, hasta 2019. Benjamín, quien se describe como un fanático de Ferrari, decidió hacer de su hobby su profesión y armó sus maletas con rumbo a Estados Unidos, donde se destacó en varias competencias que más tarde lo llevarían a cumplir su sueño: correr en Europa. Hoy, es integrante del "programa Junior" de Lamborghini Squadra Corse, su nueva marca y por estos días, prepara lo que será su participación en Le Mans. Actualmente, Benja, como lo llaman sus más cercanos, estudia Business and Management en Barcelona donde vive desde hace unos años. At only 24 years old, the Chilean Benjamín Hites Michelson knows the meaning of the verb triumph. At only five years old he was already a fan of karting, so much so that when he was sixteen, he reached the highest leagues, always driven by the passion for cars that was inher-ited from his father, Marcos. He defines himself as a passionate and persevering person, as we will realize in this interview. In 2017, as a youngster, he had already forged his future as a car driver in one of the most competitive categories on the continent in Argentina, until the year 2019. Benjamín, who describes himself as a Ferrari fan, decided to turn his hobby into his professional career and packed his suitcases heading to the United States (US), where he stood out in several competitions which would afterwards lead him to fulfill his dream: racing in Europe. Today, he is a member of the Lamborghini Squadra "Junior program" Corse, his new brand and he is currently preparing himself for his future participation in Le Mans. Cur-rently; Benja, as he is called by his closest acquaintances, is studying “Business and Man-agement” in Barcelona after having lived there for some years. However, he says that the most difficult thing about having taken this path is the fact of missing out on the social life of the average men of his age, lacking his family’s company and of course, being separated from his pet.

¿Cómo fue dedicarse al automovilismo siendo aun un adolescente? Difícil pero entretenido. Yo estudié en el colegio Grange y ahí siempre recibí total apoyo para poder competir, por lo que se me hizo algo más fácil poder enfocarme en el deporte como yo quería. ¿Cómo fue tu primera experiencia fuera de Chile? En Argentina era todo muy competitivo. El automovilismo no es lo que todos creen de andar en hoteles de 5 estrellas o con un chef personal. Varias veces dormí en casas rodantes para poder llegar a mis competencias. Fue duro, pero aprendí mucho. En comparación con Chile, allá los pilotos son buenos pero agresivos y competitivos por naturaleza. Luego vino Estados Unidos que fue una gran escuela para poder instalarme en Barcelona, donde vivo hace 4 años. Cuéntanos de tu vida en Europa Los primeros años en Europa pasé por varias marcas, pasé por Mercedes, Ferrari y ahora Lambo, con quienes llevo dos años y veo una buena proyección. Siento que están apostando por mí. ¿A dónde quieres llegar en el corto plazo? Creo que me gustaría ser piloto oficial Lamborghini. Además de ganar carreras importantes como Daytona o Le Mans que es lo más cercano hoy. ¿Cómo te estás preparando? Ahora estoy de vacaciones en Santiago, aprovechando a mi familia y amigos, pero el entrenamiento es sacrificado. Me hicieron perder cerca de 8 kilos por lo que debo estar siempre cuidándome y yendo mucho al sauna, que te hace acostumbrarte al calor de los autos, donde la temperatura es de 60 grados. Además voy al gimnasio y hago bicicleta de ruta. ¿Cuáles han sido las principales cosas que has debido hipotecar para dedicarte al deporte? Pasar mucho tiempo solo, muchos viajes. También el tema de la vida social, los amigos que dejo en Chile, mis papás y mis hermanas y a Mica, mi perro.

What was it like to dedicate yourself to motorsports while still being a teenager? Difficult but entertaining. I studied at the Grange school and I always received full support to be able to compete while I was there, so it made focusing on the sport in the way I wanted easier. How was your first experience outside of Chile like? In Argentina everything was very competitive. Motorsports are not about staying in 5-star hotels or with a personal chef as everyone seems to believe. I slept inside trailers to be able to get to my competitions on several occasions. It was hard, but I learned a lot. Compared with Chile, the drivers are good but aggressive and competitive for nature in there. Then came the United States (US), which was a great school to be able to settle in Barcelona, where I have been living for four years. Tell us about your life in Europe? The first years in Europe I went through several brands, including through Mercedes, Ferrari and now Lamborghini, who I have cooperated with for two years and I see a good projection. I feel like they are betting on me. Where do you wish to move in the short term? I think I would like to be an official Lamborghini sponsor. In addition to winning important races like Daytona or Le Mans, which are the closest ones to that goal that are available today. How are you preparing? I am currently vacationing in Santiago, taking advantage of being together with my family and friends, but training is rough. They made me lose about eight kilograms so I must be always taking care of myself and going a lot of saunas, which makes you get used to the heat inside the cars, where there is a temperature of 60 degrees Celsius. Plus, I go to the gym and engage in road cycling. What have been the main things that you have had to sacrifice in order to dedicate yourself to sports? Spending a lot of time alone, while also missing out on a lot of traveling. Also, the issue of my social life, the friends I left behind in Chile, without mentioning that I separated from my parents, my sisters and my dog Mica.

¿Cuál es el origen de tu pasión por la cocina y cómo te convertiste en chef? A mí lo que me gustaba era viajar, conocer otros lugares, era muy curioso, quería moverme, salir de Perú, conocer el mundo. Es ahí donde me di cuenta de que en la cocina también podía encontrarme con gente de otros países y compartir conocimientos. Eso se convirtió en mi pasión. También me gustaban temas relacionados a las artes plásticas, creatividad, hacer cosas distintas y la cocina me saca del confort que siempre viví en Lima, por eso lo relaciono mucho con el viaje. Has destacado por tu enfoque en ingredientes locales y tradiciones culinarias peruanas. ¿Cómo seleccionas los ingredientes para tus platos? Por intuición sumada a la experiencia que me da sabiduría para entender qué cosas puedo usar y qué cosas no, y qué cosas saben bien juntas y transmiten algo más profundo aparte del sabor; potenciando el sentido de lugar y pertenencia. Para mí que sea de origen peruano es importante, se vuelve un elemento que quiero usar y que me genera mucha alegría e importancia en el uso ya que genera una reivindicación de productos nuestros y si es algo nuevo aún mejor.

What is the origin of your passion for cooking and how do you did you become a chef? What I liked was traveling, I was very curious about seeing other places so I wanted to move and leave Peru to see the world. It's there where I realized that I could also find myself in the kitchen with people from other countries and share our knowledge. That has become my passion. I also liked topics which were related to plastic arts, creativity, doing different things and the fact that cooking takes me away from the comfort that I always felt in Lima, that's why I relate it a lot with the trip. You have stood out for your focus on local ingredients and Peruvian culinary traditions. How do you select the ingredients for your dishes? By adding intuition to the experience that gives me wisdom to understand what things I shall use and what things I should not what ingredients taste good when mixed together in order to convey something deeper than flavor; enhancing the sense of being and belonging. For me it is important for the ingredients to be Peruvian, as it´s an essential element that I look for when selecting which ingredients will be used and that generates a lot of joy inside me since I take pleasure in reindicating our culinary traditions and in innovating by using them as a starting point. 134

¿Cuál es el ingrediente más sorprendente o especial que has descubierto? Las plantas medicinales. Para mí es el futuro de la alimentación, es entender nuevamente que sanamos como comemos. Sanamos como entendemos nuestra relación con la naturaleza y mediante la convivencia entre nosotros, los seres vivos y plantas que utilizamos para alimentarnos. No es sólo un ingrediente lo que ha cambiado o definido la cocina de Central, es la constante visión de ingredientes nuevos y no solo ingredientes nuevos y ricos sino ingredientes que marcan un camino y que generan supervivencia, que genera que una comunidad viva en un lugar es por eso que las plantas medicinales son los ingredientes que me mueven. What is the most surprising or special ingredient that you've discovered? Medicinal plants. For me it is the future of food, the fact that we are what we eat is understood again. We have healed our way of comprehending our relationship with nature through the coexistence between us and the living beings and plants that are used to feed us. It's not just one ingredient that has changed or defined Central's cuisine, is the constant vision of new ingredients and not only new and delicious ingredients but ingredients that mark a new path and that generate sustainability, that create a lively community and that is why medicinal plants are the ingredients that move me.

Central has been recognized as one of the best restaurants in the world. What has been the key to achieving that level of success? Everything can be translated into consistency, always looking for harmony between what we do, say, feel and desire. We seek consistency through our work, understanding that we live inside a context where it is not easy to run a restaurant “everyday” and it is still not a simple task to run a restaurant that stands out like ours, which sets high standards and is mentioned as a model for restaurants throughout the world, we take into our obligations and responsi-bilities into account that, since we are aware of how relevant we are and how much we wish to keep our importance. Among other things, what makes us transcend are our details and hospitality, since characteristics like these ones have gotten us to the point where we are.

Como chef, ¿cómo encuentras el equilibrio entre la tradición e innovación culinaria? Cocreando con estas dos formas, viendo a las dos como necesarias para trabajar. No hay innovación si no se valora la tradición, no hay tradición si no se innova porque si no la tradición se pierde, entonces innovando es que haces que la tradición se pueda sentir, se pueda ver, se pueda actualizar. Por ejemplo, hay platos que se comían tradicionalmente en épocas donde probablemente se buscaba tener más energía, más calorías, donde buscaban alargar las horas de comida, ahora que todo es mucho más rápido, donde se busca energía rápida y cosas concretas con menos tiempo, esta tradición hoy en día tiene que moverse a esos ritmos sin perder su esencia, manteniendo su tradicionalidad. “EN 50 AÑOS HA PASADO MUCHA AGUA DEBAJO DE ESTA CALETA” “IN FIFTY YEARS, A LOT OF WATER HAS PASSED UNDER THIS CAVE” El Coco restaurant nace en mayo de 1973 en Providencia, como una de las primeras marisquerías de Santiago. En ese tiempo, desde la plaza Baquedano hasta el Arrayán no habían más de 10 restaurantes, y hoy existen más de 4000 restaurantes gastronómicos con diferentes especialidades y sabores del mundo. “A principio de los 70 tuve la suerte de inaugurar mi restaurante con el famoso cantante Julio Iglesias, quien en ese tiempo estaba empezando su carrera, al igual que yo. Por su cocina impecable de sabores marinos únicos han pasado celebridades de la talla de Luis Miguel, Sandro, Rafael, Camilo Sesto, Los Rolling Stones, Rod Steward, Donna Summer, Lucerito, Ricky Martin, “y el último que nos trajo Ernesto Mosso fue el grupo Kiss”. Sentado en una mesa de su restaurante en Nueva Costanera, al que llegó tras un incendio en su emblemático local de La Concepción, cuenta orgulloso que ha atendido a tres generaciones. “Hoy estoy preparando a mi nieto Gaspar, enviándolo afuera para que aprenda gastronomía más avanzadas con nuevas técnicas para que se prepare para continuar el legado del restaurant”, señala. “Él me va a reemplazar cuando yo ya no esté. Espero que estos sueños se hagan realidad y que restaurant coco para mucho tiempo más”, cuenta. Se emociona al recordar sus inicios en mayo de 1973 y ver todo lo que ha logrado hasta hoy. En agosto y con un espectacular almuerzo, celebró sus cinco décadas rodeados de sus más cercanos y su familia. Esta celebración marcó otro hito más en su carrera. “Aprovecho este espacio para agradecer a mis amigos y clientes por acompañarme en estas cinco décadas. A todos ellos mil gracias. Y de seguro nada de esto hubiera sido posible sin mi mujer, Pitita Baquedano, quien ha significado un gran aporte. Es mi socia incondicional con la que hemos formamos una hermosa familia”. “Mi pensamiento es pensar siempre en mirar siempre adelante, nunca hacia atrás”, concluye. Los 50 años de trayectoria del chef Coco Pacheco representan un viaje culinario increíblemente impactante. Su capacidad para fusionar tradiciones y experimentar con nuevos sabores ha redefinido la gastronomía y ha dejado una marca imborrable. Su legado es un recordatorio constante de que la pasión, la innovación y la dedicación pueden llevar a la creación de experiencias gastronómicas verdaderamente excepcionales. The restaurant known as “Here Is Coco” was founded in May of the year 1973 in Providencia, as one of the first seafood restaurants that were present in Santiago. At that time, there were no more than ten restaurants from Plaza Baquedano to Arrayán and today there are more than four thousand gastronomic restaurants in that area which serve different specialties and flavors from around the world. “At the beginning of the seventies I was lucky enough to open my restaurant alongside the famous singer Julio Iglesias, who just like myself was only starting his career at that time. The doors of his impeccable kitchen of unique marine flavors have received celebrities of the caliber of Luis Miguel, Sandro, Rafael, Camilo Sesto, The Rolling Stones, Rod Steward, Donna Summer, Lucerito, Ricky Martin and “the last one that Ernesto Mosso brought to us was the iconic band known as Kiss.” 162

Sitting at a table in his restaurant in Nueva Costanera, where he arrived after a fire destroyed his emblematic premises in La Concepción, he says that he has proudly served three generations. As he declared: "I am preparing my grandson Gaspar today, sending him overseas to learn advanced gastronomy with new techniques so that he is capable of continuing the legacy of the restaurant” and that "he's going to replace me when I'm gone, I hope these dreams become our reality and that the Coco restaurant will last for a long time to come”. He becomes emotional when remembering the beginning of his career in May 1973 and seeing everything that he has achieved until today. Through a spectacular lunch in August, he celebrated his five decades surrounded by his closest friends and also by his family members. This celebration marked another milestone in his career. As he uttered later on: “I take advantage of this opportunity to thank my friends and clients for accompanying me throughout these five decades. I am grateful towards all of you. Surely none of this could have ever been possible without my wife Pitita Baquedano, who has made a great contribution. She is my unconditional partner with whom I have created a beautiful family.” He concluding by saying that: “My thought is to always think about looking forward and to never look backwards”. The fifty years of experience of the Chef Coco Pacheco represent an incredibly impressive culinary journey. His ability to synthesize a fusion of traditions and the experimentation with new flavors has redefined the gastronomical world and has doubtlessly left an indelible mark inside it. His legacy is a constant reminder that passion, innovation and dedication can lead to the creation of truly outstanding gastronomical activities.
