Kate and Chris Gift were married on April 27, 2013 and honeymooned in Puerto Vallarta. Though they’ve done beach vacations before, this time was different because they’d been so busy with wedding activities. Kate had to cheer herself on to get the packing done. They each took one suitcase and shared a carry-on. They didn’t pack enough sunscreen. “We love the spray sunscreen but it doesn’t go as far as the lotion in the bottle. We took six cans because we use plenty.” By the third day, Kate was worried. It was so hot and the sunscreen evaporated so quickly. It cost $33 per can to buy more in the gift shop. But as luck would have it, after the piling out of a cab from an excursion, Kate spied a Wal-Mart and bought 5 more bottles…just in case. Too much: Kate confesses that she packed way too many shoes. “I brought all these cute summer sandals with heels to go with the dresses but at the end of the day getting ready for dinner, you realize you wear heels all the time and you just want flip flops.” Must haves: Kate took her Kindle; Chris took a massive historical book her dad had given him. Leanora and Derrick Wendling were married on October 6, 2012 and honeymooned on the Riviera Maya, at the El Dorado Maroma Resort. “I definitely took too many fancy dinner dresses—seven dresses for seven nights!” said Leanora. As it happened, the couple skipped the restaurants several times to enjoy room service on their private patio, so Lea dressed “casual,” which is yet another category for which she confesses having over packed. “Honestly? We ended up being in our bathing suits most of the time.” Her packing must haves: digital camera, Nook and also a hardcover book “because when it’s so sunny, it’s hard to read an e-screen.” His must haves: his phone (only for playing music), a baseball cap, bathing suit, sunglasses, flip flops, and watch, just because. Though a blogger and writer, Leanora forgot to pack a journal. “I had nothing to write on.
