Chairman’s Report

Dear Members,

What a remarkable year it has been so far at Sporties. As we approach the end of the year, it’s incredible to look back on all we have achieved, celebrated, and contributed to our community. Our Club continues to live out its vision “to be the cornerstone of the community,” and this year has truly highlighted what that means in action.

One of the standout moments was our record-breaking ClubGRANTS Presentation Night, where more than 80 guests joined us for our largest ever event of its kind. On the night, we celebrated the $336,810 that was proudly distributed to local community groups and sporting codes.

Another highlight was the launch of our Future Focus Careers Fair, designed to inspire local youth by showcasing diverse career and study pathways. Students from both Holsworthy High and Moorebank High attended, and the overwhelmingly positive feedback has ensured this will now become an annual event.

In September, we were proud to partner with Georges River Life Care to support their annual Care for a Walk? fundraiser. A few hundred people came together to walk in solidarity for vulnerable families, raising vital funds to assist those impacted by domestic violence, homelessness, and family breakdown. Supporting organisations like GRLC, who directly serve our community, is something we are deeply proud of.

This year also saw strong results from our winter sporting codes, and as we look ahead, we are excited to cheer on our cricket and baseball teams throughout the summer season. Our sporting codes are a constant source of pride, growing stronger each year. To further this growth, we recently launched our Junior Legends Membership and the Sporties Legends $50 voucher, ensuring that finances are never a barrier for local children wanting to play sport. This initiative reflects our ongoing commitment to both growing our Sporties family and supporting young people in our community.

It has truly been a fantastic year at Sporties, and none of it would be possible without the dedication of our team. On behalf of the Board, I extend my sincere thanks to my fellow Directors, CEO Jeff Gibbs, our Senior Leadership Team, and every member of staff. Your efforts and passion are what make Sporties the Club it is today.

Finally, I wish all our members and staff a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I look forward with great excitement to what 2026 has in store for us all.

Director Spotlight

Alby is a former Chief Inspector with the NSW Police and a qualified legal professional. As an executive and community leader he has held transformative leadership roles that have shaped policy, strengthened integrity, and delivered lasting impact across Australia. His career spans law enforcement, government, sport, and industry.

He was the NRL’s inaugural Head of Integrity, setting the benchmark for governance in professional sport. As Chief Executive of Local Government NSW and General Manager of the Australian Beverages Council, Alby spearheaded landmark initiatives—from harmonising container refund schemes nationwide to negotiating historic sugar reduction commitments with beverage companies.

As Executive Chairman of Container Exchange (CoEx), Alby led the creation of Queensland’s $500 million container refund scheme—one of the country’s most ambitious environmental recycling programs. His strategic vision and operational excellence turned a bold idea into a thriving, state-wide success.

Alby continues to serve in senior governance roles, including as Chief Commissioner of the Greyhound Welfare and Integrity Commission and Director of the Board at Stadium Australia Club (Accor Stadium).

Locally, Alby and his wife Donna have called Wattle Grove home since the early 1990s, raising their children Rees and Kaitlin in the heart of the community. His decades-long involvement in Hammondville Park and the Moorebank Rams Rugby League Club—where he earned Life Membership and served as President from 2004 to 2009—reflect his enduring passion for grassroots sport.

As President of Moorebank Sports Club (2022–2024), Alby played a pivotal role in securing a historic land purchase from Liverpool Council, laying the foundation for state-of-the-art facilities that will serve families across southwest Sydney. His vision for Sporties is bold and inclusive: “To provide members and the wider community with everything they need in one place—including the best food, best drinks, and the best destination for sport, recreation, and entertainment.”

Alby’s legacy is one of leadership, integrity, service, and unwavering commitment to public good —where sport, family, and connection thrive.

Sporties Celebrates Biggest Ever ClubGRANTS

Moorebank Sports Club was buzzing on Monday 8th September as more than 80 guests gathered for Sporties’ largest ever ClubGRANTS Presentation Cocktail Event, with a record-breaking $336,810 distributed to local community groups and sporting codes through the Clubs Category One and Category Two contributions.

The evening brought together an impressive line-up of attendees, including federal and state ministers, local councillors, industry representatives, corporate partners, the Sporties Board and Senior Leadership Team, along with the most important guests of all – the grant recipients.

The event was a chance to not only present vital funding, but also to reflect on Sporties’ milestones over the past 12 months and celebrate the impact that community organisations and sporting codes make across our local community. Guests enjoyed an evening of networking, storytelling, and shared recognition of the contribution these groups bring to the local community.

A special thanks to Emma Duxbury , who did a wonderful job as MC, helping guide the evening’s program with warmth and energy.

The $336,810 in grants will help empower local sporting clubs and community organisations to continue their essential work – building stronger connections, providing opportunities, and enhancing community wellbeing and sport.

This event wasn’t just about the funding, it’s about celebrating and partnering with the people and groups who give so much to our community.

It was truly a night of celebration, gratitude, and shared vision for the future.

We look forward to seeing these projects come to life over the next few months!

Thank you to our amazing guests!

We are grateful to the incredible people and organisations who support our local community.

Heroes with Ability – Schools Program

The Heroes with Ability program brings sport and fitness to students living with disability through weekly one-hour sessions delivered over 10 weeks. Using rugby league-inspired activities, the program promotes inclusion, teamwork, communication, and healthy lifestyle habits while improving physical and mental wellbeing. Students without disability are also involved, fostering understanding and social inclusion, while people with disability are employed as coaches and staff, creating further opportunities and community connection.

MINIFIT Holiday Clinics

The MINIFIT Holiday Clinics give boys and girls the chance to stay active, healthy, and connected during the school holidays. Through fun rugby league drills, fitness games, and team-building activities, kids learn the importance of the five MINIFIT foundations: hydration, nutrition, physical activity, sleep, and balanced screen time. The clinics not only build physical skills but also encourage healthy habits, resilience, and social connection—helping set children up with strong foundations for life.

Celebrating 10 years at Sporties!

This year, we were proud to celebrate a very special milestone for one of our team members. Mary, a well-respected and valued p of the Sporties family, marked 10 years of loyal service. Her journey over the past decade reflects everything that makes Sport place to work – community, opportunity, growth, and care. We recenty asked Mary to share her story with us.

What made you choose Sporties all those years ago?

“When I moved to the area over a decade ago, I was starting a family and looking for a workplace that offered flexibility, a s community, and somewhere I could grow, feel supported, and be part of a team – not just a number. Sporties felt like the right the very beginning, with its welcoming atmosphere and the way staff are genuinely valued. And it has proven to be just that!”

Share your journey over the last 10 years.

Mary’s career at Sporties is a true story of growth and dedication.

“I started out on the floor as a casual, then was cross-trained in other areas including the main bar, gaming, and cashbox. It a great understanding of the fast-paced world of hospitality. During this time, I was pregnant with my second child. Sporties w incredibly supportive, offering flexibility while I balanced work, pregnancy, and family life. Over the years, I was given the opportunity to step into leadership, first as a Gaming Team Leader, then as an Operational Team Today, I am proud to be part of the management team as Relief Customer Service Manager. It’s been such a rewarding journey, ful learning and growth.”

What do you enjoy most about working at Sporties?

“The people – both the team and the members. There’s a real sense of family here. We look out for each other, have fun even during the busiest shifts, and there’s always a laugh to be had. I also love that no two days are the same. The variety keeps it interesting!”

What’s been your highlight?

“The highlight has been reaching 10 years of service as part of the Sporties family. I’ve also loved the opportunity to progress, develop so many skills, and work in different areas of the club.”

What advice would you give other working mums thinking about a job in hospitality?

“If you’re looking for a flexible job that allows work-life balance, I’d say go for it! There’s no other place like Sporties, where the workplace culture is supportive, flexible, dynamic, and rewarding. Balancing work and family isn’t always easy, but with the right team like Sporties, you’ll find understanding and encouragement. It’s also a great way to stay social, keep growing professionally, and set a positive example for your kids.”

From all of us at Sporties – thank you, Mary, for your incredible contribution over the past 10 years. We’re so lucky to have you as part of the team, and we look forward to celebrating many more milestones together!

Moorebank Sports Club proudly hosted the inaugural Future Focus Careers Fair in the Club Auditorium, an exciting new event designed to inspire, connect, and guide our local young people as they begin exploring their career journeys.

We welcomed students from Holsworthy High School and Moorebank High School during the school day, followed by an afternoon session open to parents, students, and community members from across the local area.

The Future Focus Fair brought together a wide range of employers, training providers, government agencies, and industry professionals, giving attendees the unique opportunity to speak directly with people already working in the fields they are curious about. From apprenticeships and trades to higher education and community services, Future Focus showcased pathways for every interest and ambition.

The Club Auditorium was alive with conversation and connection, as stallholders generously shared their knowledge and opportunities. A big thank you to all stallholders who participated and helped make the event such a success.

We were also honored to have State Member for Holsworthy, Tina Ayyad, in attendance, she visited all the stallholders and had some great interactions with local students and school leaders. We appreciate her support of our event and this important initiative.

A special shoutout goes to Hennessy Coffee, who kept everyone fueled throughout the day and worked with Holsworthy High School’s Hospitality students, offering them barista training tips and tricks as part of the event.

We were very grateful for the positive feedback we received from students and stallholders throughout the event which included

“This was such a cool event – we loved it!” – Local students

“Great stalls and vibe, and even better that it was so close to school.” – Local Student

“Wow, this event is such a great platform for us, more Clubs need to do this” A stallholder

“We have taken almost 25 names of students who are interested in work experiences and a possible career” A stallholder

Overall stallholders reported a positive experience, highlighting the value of connecting directly with their potential future employees, trainees, and students. With such a broad mix of industries, education providers, and community services on show, the fair offered genuine opportunities for meaningful career conversations.

The success of this first Future Focus Careers Fair is a testament to what can be achieved when schools, employers, families, and community partners come together to support our next generation.

We want to sincerely thank everyone involved, from schools and stallholders to students and supporters and for helping make this day such a memorable one.

Thank You to Our Amazing Stall Holders!

We are grateful to the incredible organisations who supported our local community by providing valuable information about different career and education pathways. Their presence made the event a huge success:

On Sunday 21 September, Sporties joined members of the community for the annual Care for a Walk event, with a few hundred people walking in solidarity to raise awareness and support for vulnerable families.

This year’s event was another great success, raising vital funds through the generosity of corporate sponsors and participant donations. The atmosphere was filled with energy and connection, with families, friends, and supporters all joining for a meaningful cause. We are pleased to advise over $25,000 was raised through this event. All proceeds will go directly towards supporting vulnerable families in our local area through Life Care’s programs and services, including case management, food hampers, Café Connect, and community lunches.

Moorebank Sports Club was proud to be a major supporting partner once again. Our staff had a wonderful time running the Kids Arcade Alley fun games, face painting and running the Food & Drink Stall, helping to create a warm and welcoming environment for all attendees.

We were also honoured to be joined by Federal Member for Hughes, Mr David Moncrieff, and State Member for Holsworthy, Mrs Tina Ayyad, who both showed their support on the day.

The event continues to be a powerful collaboration between Georges River Life Care, Moorebank Sports Club, Freedom Fitness and Liverpool City Council.

Together, we share a united vision, to raise awareness of the challenges faced by vulnerable families and to empower our community to provide ongoing support.

We are deeply grateful for the generosity, drive, and ambition of our founding partners and community supporters. Care for a Walk demonstrates the incredible impact we can achieve when we work hand in hand to care for one another.

Knitting

Sporties Knitting Group Creates 150 Beanies for Miracle Babies

At Moorebank Sports Club, community is at the heart of everything we do, and our amazing Sporties Knitting Group has once again shown just how powerful giving back can be.

Over the past few months, this dedicated group of ladies have been meeting in the club each Thursday, needles clicking and hearts full, to take on a very special challenge. Together, they hand-crafted 150 tiny Christmas beanies for Miracle Babies Foundation, destined for newborns spending their first Christmas in Neonatal Intensive Care Units around Australia.

On Thursday 25 September, we were proud to welcome representatives from Miracle Babies and Liverpool NICU to the club as the beanies were officially handed over. It was a truly special display of kindness and generosity — our club provided the funding for wool and packaging, while the knitting group gave their time and talents to create something heartfelt for families in need.

This initiative is about more than just beanies. It’s about giving families facing an incredibly difficult start to life a little warmth, comfort, and the reminder that their community cares.

Together, we can make this Christmas a little brighter for the tiniest miracles.

JOIN YOUR CHILD FOR FREE TODAY AS A JUNIOR MEMBER AND SCORE A $50 VOUCHER TOWARDS YOUR CHILD’S SPORT REGISTRATION

At Moorebank Sports Club, we believe in giving local kids a sporting chance.

That’s why we’ve launched the Sporties Junior Legends program—designed to support families and help young players get active in the sport they love. When you sign your child up as a junior member of Sporties, you’ll receive a $50 voucher to go towards their sport registration fees.

It’s our way of investing in the future of community sport, one little legend at a time!

COMMUNITY

Community Raffles

Community involvement in our monthly community raffles have been a great way to bring people together while giving back. Recently, we have supported:

July: Moorebank Cricket Club

August: Wattle Grove Scouts

September: Liverpool Girl Guides

These raffles were all great successes, helping to bring people together and raise vital funds. Additionally, through all of our meat raffles we are also supporting the “Soldier’s Cut” initiative, where a portion of proceeds go toward supporting veterans and their families.

Local Schools

We have taken every opportunity to support lots of schools in our local area. From sponsoring school fetes and fundraisers, donating raffle prizes, attending events, and even offering our courtesy bus on weekdays. We’re proud to lend a hand to the kids in our community wherever possible.

Local organisations and events

We’ve also backed other local sporting initiatives, like the Holsworthy ADF team in their Netball competition, and Liverpool Police’s team in the Golden Boot charity competition.

Additionally, our staff have raised funds for or participated in community initiatives such as Steptember, Jeans4Genes, Blood Drives, Care for a Walk, and Cancer Council’s Biggest Morning Tea.

October Mental Health Month: Raising Mentally Resilient Kids 20th October

As part of Mental Health Month, we are excited to host a free event to strengthen and support the mental health of kids and parents in the local community. This engaging and informative session will explore how parents and caregivers can foster emotional strength, adaptability and confidence in their children; skills that are crucial in today’s fast-paced, high-pressure world. Keep an eye out on our socials for more information and to reserve your place.

White Cane Day Mingle

We are also excited to partner with Cocky Guides, Sensory Tourism and Blind Sport to celebrate White Cane Day, to raise awareness and build community connections for people affected by vision impairments. This event will be held on 12th November from 10:30am.

Georges River Life Care Backpack Drive

We’re once again proud to continue our annual partnership with Georges River Life Care to support their Backpack Drive – an initiative that helps provide school-ready backpacks to local kids doing it tough at Christmas. Each backpack is filled with essential school supplies, helping children start the new school year with confidence and dignity. It’s a small way we can make a big impact in a young person’s life.

Giving Tree

We will be celebrating the season of giving, proud to be supporting the NICU and Paediatric Wards at Liverpool Hospital through our Giving Tree initiative. We will give members the opportunity to donate gifts or make contributions that will go directly to children and families spending the holidays in hospital. It’s a small gesture that can bring a lot of light and comfort to those doing it tough at a time that should be filled with joy.

For all of these upcoming initiatives, please keep an eye out around the club and on our social media to see how you can get involved, to help us extend our impact on the local community, especially those doing tough around Christmas time.

SPORTING CODE

Moorebank Soccer Club

The 2025 winter season has drawn to a close and Moorebank Soccer Club is celebrating its successes.

We are proud of all our teams and the successes they have had on the pitch. This year we proud to report that nine of our teams secured minor premierships, including both our Under 23s, Premier League and Over 30s ladies. Twenty-two teams finished off the season in their respective grand finals with nine coming away with a win. MSC, at Hammondville Park, hosted the grand finals for all the district ladies’ competitions and the day was exciting and busy. This year, MSC fielded nine ladies’ teams in grand finals, a great result for female football at our club.

Not only were the successes seen in the season end results, but we were also recognised with a number of prestigious district awards for our elite players. This year MSC took out the 2025 Club Championship, Coach of the Year, Best Attacking Team, Best Defensive Team, Goalkeeper of the Year and the Golden Boot Award. Congratulations to all those individuals and teams receiving these awards.

Football 4 All wrapped up their year with a final session on our synthetic field. The children love getting on Field 1 to spread out and practice their new skills. Thanks to Nick and his team for another great Football 4 All year.

While the on-pitch play has been completed, the club is continuing to work hard towards the end of year celebrations with the organisation of both junior and senior presentations well underway.

These events are a highlight in the MSC calendar, and we are looking forward to celebrating the people, successes and achievements of the year.

Finally, Moorebank Soccer Club would like to thank Sporties for their continued support throughout the 2025 season.

Moorebank Cricket Club

After a one week delay due to wet conditions, Round 1 commenced on Saturday 20 September for the 2025/26 cricket season. It was great to see all our Moorebank teams back on the ground for another season.

Moorebank Cricket Club is again well represented in the Fairfield-Liverpool Cricket Association (FLCA) with 8 Junior teams and 3 Senior teams. Even though our Senior numbers are down a little versus last year, we have added one Junior team (U10 – U16). This brings our Junior player numbers to 95, and increase of 28%! We are also expecting to have 5 or 6 Blasters (U7 & U9) teams when their season starts on 11 October, which is up from 4 last season.

Moorebank CC hosted a free 4 week Cricket Blast pre-season clinic during July/August at Hammondville Reserve, in conjunction with Cricket NSW. This clinic was an overwhelming success, with over 100 registrations of kids under the age of 10. The final session included a visit from NSW player Blake Nikitaras, which was a real treat for all the players.

Our club has also recently completed some much-needed improvements to our facilities:

• Added rubber net guards to the training nets at Hammondville Reserve 1

• Installed security cameras at the cricket clubhouse

• Laid new turf for the run-up areas at both sets of nets and at pitch #1

The Moorebank CC President and Vice President attended the Sporties Grants Presentation on Monday 8 September at Moorebank Sports Club. This was a cocktail event held for all the organisations that Sporties supports in the community, and provided a great opportunity to meet with board members and other dignitaries. Moorebank Cricket Club would again like to thank Sporties for the generous support that it provides to grassroots sport in our area.

Good luck to all the Moorebank cricket teams this season!
