JANUARY FEBRUARY MARCH

Chairman's Report. Director's Profile.

To our valued Members,

I’m delighted to welcome you to the first edition of the Sporties Emagazine for 2025, in my first report as Chairman. I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and New Year and got to spend some quality time with your loved ones.

We have such a big year ahead at Sporties!

Planning is already underway for the redevelopment of the Hammondville Park Precinct, after the contract of sale for two pockets of land along Heathcote Road was signed by Liverpool Council and our Club.

This means our venue will no longer be landlocked and paves the way for an expansion of our services and facilities for Members, guests, and the wider community.

My fellow Directors and are developing a Master Plan to create a world-class sporting, dining and entertainment precinct in the heart of Sydney’s southwest, that will create jobs and boost the local economy.

I look forward to sharing more details in the near future.

I would like to wish our sporting codes the best of luck for the season ahead. We have seen fantastic player numbers across all of our clubs in recent years and I’m confident this will continue in 2025.

Thank you to our committee members and volunteers who spend countless hours every year managing and coaching teams, working in canteens, washing jerseys, and setting up fields. You are the reason our sporting codes can run as efficiently as they do.

Congratulations to the Sporties team members who were recognised for outstanding achievements on the job in 2024 including Chantele Dewhirst, who was named our Employee of the Year, Patrick Galea who was named Rookie of the Year, Jordan McShane who was recognised for going Above & Beyond, and Christopher Rasera who was named our Culture Champion.

would also like to take this opportunity to thank our frontof-house staff who strive to provide our Members and guests with the best possible experience, every time they walk through our doors.

hope to see you all at the Club very soon!

CHAIRMAN

MOOREBANK SPORTS CLUB

Ken Coleman is one of our newest Sporties Directors having been appointed to the role at the 2024 AGM.

Born in Kurrajong in Sydney’s northwest, he spent his childhood years in Georges Hall and Condell Park, attending the local primary and high schools. He kept himself busy by mowing lawns for his neighbours to earn some pocket money from the age of 11.

Ken went on to complete a diploma in Marketing at Bankstown TAFE, as well as a Cert IV in Workplace Training and Development. Upon leaving school, he began working in hospitality at the Elim Function Centre in Burwood before transitioning to warehousing and sales roles.

Ken also spent a number of years at Sporties as a bar attendant, team leader, and courtesy bus driver!

He then moved back into sales and technical work in the manufacturing industry and today, he leads a team at a manufacturing business supplying joinery material for commercial and residential projects.

Ken’s association with Sporties began in 2013 when he joined as a social member. His sons began playing soccer for Moorebank and so, the Club became a meeting place for the team and their families.

When asked why he wanted to join the Sporties Board, Ken says it was the sense of community that drew him in.

“Having worked in the club, I saw what Sporties meant to people and the community at large. Whilst it was - and continues to be - a great social destination, saw what it meant to people who were older or without family, or who didn’t have a broad social network.

“Sporties became their place for social contact, getting that sense of belonging and community. That always stuck with me.

“I want Sporties to grow to support and reflect the community and continue to be the premier club in our area, whilst remaining personal enough that members still feel like it’s their club, and they are recognised and valued”.

Land Sale Approved! SOLD

In late October 2024, Moorebank Sports Club and Liverpool City Council paved the way for the next chapter of growth and development in our local community, with an agreement to sell two pockets of land along Heathcote Road to our organisation.

To say we’re excited about what this means for our venue and our members and guests, is an understatement!

Our Club is currently landlocked with no direct street frontage and prior to this land sale being approved, there had been restrictions on how we could expand our venue footprint due to the lack of Club-owned parking spots.

But with this additional land, we can now look at making Hammondville Park a world-class sporting, dining and entertainment precinct.

Our community is growing… and we want to grow with you.

We want to diversify our offering and build a Club that caters for the needs of our local community, including state-of-the-art meeting and event spaces, more restaurants, family facilities, and additional entertainment offerings that our members and guests will love and enjoy.

We want to build a place of leisure and entertainment which grows the local economy, creating jobs and further opportunities for our local community groups.

As part of the sale agreement, Moorebank Sports Club has committed to ensuring there will always be sufficient parking at Hammondville Park to accommodate our sporting codes and Club patrons. The acquired land will allow us to find the much sought after solution to previous parking congestion issues.

Planning is already underway and we can’t wait to bring you updates!

Sporties Supports Georges River Life Care This Christmas

Sporties is proud to support the Georges River Life Care (GRLC) backpack initiative for another year, packing school bags full of classroom and playground essentials for disadvantaged kids in our area.

Our team packed over 100 backpacks with donations from the community, our members, and staff. These are being delivered to local primary and high schools, ready for the start of the 2025 school year.

Special thanks to Kelli Hill and her daughter Aimee (pictured) who donated $400 worth of items, and to Holsworthy Public School and Hammondville Public School for their contributions.

In addition to the backpacks, the Sporties team joined GRLC for their Christmas Connect event on Sunday 22 December, volunteering their time to provide face painting and balloon-making for the kids, and donating food items.

Sporties caterers On Point Catering also contributed to this event with some delicious food!

Attendees at the Christmas Connect day receive a hamper full of festive goodies to support them, and their families, during the holidays.

Thank you to everyone involved in this fantastic initiative.

GALA DAY Heroes With Ability

In November 2024, Sporties supported the annual Heroes With Ability Schools Gala Day which was held at the Michael Clarke Recreation Centre in Carnes Hill.

This event brought students together from select schools in the area to compete for the HWA Schools Varying Abilities Shield.

In addition, they were also competing for the inaugural Geoff Robinson Varying Abilities Shield, which was sponsored by Sporties, in memory of Geoff who sadly lost his battle with cancer earlier this year.

A dozen Sporties team members volunteered to help run various activities on the day, before presenting all attendees with some participation memorabilia.

We are incredibly proud to be involved in this initiative for the second year running.

New Playground

In early October, Sporties unveiled its new toddler play area within the current playground space in The Backyard, offering a range of fun sensory experiences for your little ones.

There is a 2.4m Activity Panel with sensory elements for young kids to explore, to facilitate cognitive skills and fine motor development.

There is also a tinnie with a turntable steering wheel and a fishing rod, which helps to initiate imaginative play, as well as a whale springer which assists with gross motor skill development.

We hope your little ones love the new additions to their space!

Chris is one of the most used stand up comedians in the country. Known for his Number 1 Double Platinum hit song BLOKE, Chris has appeared on Good News Week, The NRL and AFL Footy Show, Stand Up Australia, The Comedy Channel’s Headliners and Housos.

The cricket season is in full swing, and we’re excited about the growing enthusiasm within our community. This season, our juniors and seniors are set for thrilling matches and continued player development.

Junior registrations have remained relatively steady versus last season, with 7 teams representing the club from U10 to U14.

MOOREBANK SPORTS NETBALL CLUB MOOREBANK SOCCER CLUB

Soccer Club (MSC) capped off a successful winter season with our junior and senior presentations. Our juniors enjoyed a carnival day with water slides, jumping castles, facepainting and plenty of awards and trophies, while our seniors enjoyed an evening celebration where their achievements were all celebrated.

MSC has now headed straight into summer soccer and trials!

This year saw the first summer soccer competition held at Hammondville Park for a very long time, kicking off in October and

timetable and support from Sporties Group and other sponsors.

Trials season kicked off recently for our Men’s Premier League, Under 23s, Championship League, Under 18 teams and our women’s M-league team. Some great talent was on display, and we look forward to watching these team develop in their respective 2025 competitions.

Trials have also been held for our Division 1 teams, both boys and girls, in age groups Under 10s to Under 16s. For many age groups, numbers for trials exceeded our expectations and we hope to build strong, competitive teams for next year.

In recognition of International Day of People with Disabilities, MSC hosted an open day for our Football 4 All participants, to provide information to any new families that are considering this program for their children. While the weather was not great, the children were able to kick a few balls and reconnect from last year.

Many thanks to the new families that came along, and we hope to see you next year.

MSC would like to thank Liverpool Council for awarding us a Small Community Grant which helped us provide showbags and game equipment for the day.
