Utility Improvement Project Public Announcement: Winter Maintenance
With winter upon us, the City of Flandreau, along with IMEG, would like to inform residents about snow removal and maintenance for gravel roads within the Flandreau Utility Improvement Project area.
The project is paused for the winter months, and several roads will remain in a temporary gravel condition over the winter. Construction activities are expected to resume in the spring once weather and ground conditions allow for it. Snow removal on these roads will be handled differently this winter to protect the unfinished surfaces.
To help keep the roads safe and prevent damage, crews will:
• Install orange marking poles approximately 12 inches from the curb to serve as plowing guidelines.
• Leave a thin, packed layer of snow to provide stability and reduce erosion.
• Plow at reduced speeds to maintain control on the gravel surfaces.
This approach will help maintain safer driving conditions until construction resumes in the spring. Our intent is to maintain access to all properties and streets throughout the winter; however, on-street parking may be impacted by snow accumulations. Should soft spots develop, please avoid driving over them to prevent further damage, they will be addressed as conditions allow in the spring.
Please note that Wind Street will be maintained at the highest level possible, as it serves as an emergency route.
If concerns arise or you have questions, please feel free to contact the City Office at (605) 997-2492.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work through the winter months!
