As summer gets into full swing, the Monterey Peninsula continues to thrive with momentum, optimism, and an unmistakable sense of renewal. From world-class events like the AT&T Pro-Am and Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance to exciting new restaurant openings, golf course renovations, and reinvestments in local businesses, 2025 is shaping up to be a year of growth and celebration across our vibrant coastal communities.
As winter transitioned into spring with the longer sunlit days of early summer, the Monterey Peninsula real estate market entered its active selling season. The second quarter traditionally brings heightened energy to the market, and the early part of the quarter delivered, driven by fresh inventory, strong buyer interest, and the unmistakable allure of life along the Monterey Peninsula’s iconic coastline. However, the momentum briefly paused as global economic uncertainty—sparked by newly announced tariffs and a sharp dip in the stock market—led to a temporary slowdown in transactions. Still, the resilience of the market quickly reasserted itself. By June, activity picked up once again, closing out the quarter with strength and signaling renewed confidence as we head into the heart of the summer season.

REALTOR® Matt Pridey of Monterey Coast Realty is bringing the hard work values and warm charm of the Midwest to the Monterey Bay. With a background in professional golf and an upbringing around farms and ranching, Matt specializes in real estate in the Highway 68 Corridor which includes Corral de Tierra, San Benancio, and Toro Park. You can also find him selling stunning Salinas Valley properties, as well as homes in a variety of Monterey
Peninsula neighborhoods. “I want [clients] to understand that they can have an amazing experience— and a successful one—with a guy who might wear some jeans and boots and a quarter-zip instead of a suit,” Matt says.
A local resident and member of the Corral de Tierra Country Club, Matt and his wife Whitney are raising their four-year-old daughter Harper and two-year-old son Brooks
to enjoy all the wholesome fun that the area has to offer. He provides the same extensive knowledge and authenticity for those looking for homes in the area as he does for his own family. e Sioux Falls, South Dakota native is the definition of a good-hearted, all-American family man with the right balance of work, play, and home life. “People really appreciate it when they start to feel that you’re a genuine person and you care about the result, not necessarily the money,” Matt explains. “ e things that were instilled in me from growing up out there— those things morphed into who I am, what matters to me, and how I translate that into business.”
Q: How has your experience growing up around farms primed you for selling beautiful ranch-style homes in our area?
A: Having grown up around farms and ranches has groomed me to be both comfortable and confident in representing clients who are pursuing that type of property. I do like to wear my jeans, boots and drive the truck, too. Owning and operating a ranch-style property can be a lot of work, much of which is unanticipated, so I am happy to be able to provide value for clients in the way of education as well. Education in knowing potential hurdles and connecting clients with the right people is just as important as understanding the property itself.
Q: Do you think being raised in the friendly and hardworking Midwest has specifically influenced your skills as a REALTOR®?
A: 100-percent. e Midwest culture instills a hardworking mentality built on a genuine desire to care for those around you, no matter the circumstance. at, a grandfather who was a farmer in Minnesota, and parents in Ministry, and it became engrained in me from a young age.
Q: When did you come to California, and for what?
A: I finished collegiate golf at Grand Canyon University (in Phoenix, Arizona) and started
playing professional events in Arizona and California in 2012. I met my wife in September of 2012 and once I came to the Monterey area to play the Monterey Open, I fell in love with the area, and the girl.
Whitney’s family ties go way back to cattle ranching in the Salinas Valley— [they have] been doing it for 100 years. My family is a little bit different of an operation coming from Midwest farming compared to what it is here, but it all resonated. We have horses out there, and we run cattle. It’s such a great culture and I resonate with all the people and things that happen in that community. Continued on next page
Q: What is your background in professional golf, and how has the transition from pro golf to real estate been?
A: I started playing at the “mini tour,” or developmental tour level, out of college in 2012, chasing the dream of playing on the PGA Tour. I spent seven years bouncing from event to event across the country and was never able to quite break through and gain status on the PGA or Korn Ferry Tour. Oddly enough, one of the tournaments I won as a pro was e Monterey Open held at Old Del Monte Golf Course, so [it is] fitting that I set roots down here. at, and my wife was born and raised in Corral de Tierra. e work ethic, mentality, and relationships that I built throughout my time as a pro definitely helped in my transition to real estate. e tools needed to perform at high level on the golf course— dedication, competitive drive, perseverance, winning mentality, preparation, etc.— all resonate with what I believe it takes to be a trusted Realtor and create a successful outcome and environment for clients.
Q: How is it balancing life as a Realtor with two young –and adorable— children, while still keeping time for yourself and interests? (Like golf!)
A: My wife and I have grown to find a good work and life balance. Part of what I like about real estate is the flexibility to
“attempt” to plan my schedule, which allows me to make time for my family and the occasional trip to the golf course or charity golf tournament.
Golf has now has become a family thing for us. Brooks is obsessed—he loves it. It’s transitioning into a time where we’re going to spend more time together. Whitney plays, Harper really likes it, and she’s good at it in her own right as a fouryear-old. As far as the balancing thing is concerned, Whitney and I do a good job at communicating and prioritizing what we both have going on. She’s always been extremely flexible with trying to find the necessities of real estate and the
unpredictability of it. If there is a challenge, that would be it, but we’ve made it work.
Q: You are a partner in Twisted Roots Winery, as well. How did you get involved with that?
A: My wife initially came on board to consult for the winery around 2012 and over time it evolved into me helping more on the business side. It has been a fun venture to be a part of. I just sold a winery in Carmel Valley, and I used a lot of my knowledge from operating Twisted Roots to help me through that process.

Q:What is the most special thing about being a REALTOR® in the Highway 68 Corridor and beyond?
A: First and foremost, I love the people. My wife grew up in Corral de Tierra so there are clearly ties on that front, but I resonate with the agricultural and rural setting having grown up that way myself. e [Highway] 68 Corridor is home not only to some of the best weather in the county, but the property types also vary quite a bit. You can find everything from a gated track development to ranches running cattle and horses. e versatility found within the area really is remarkable and also what I feel allows me to stand out among the crowd when it comes to my understanding of how to approach different property profiles.
Q: Do you sell in other areas of the Monterey Peninsula?
A: Yes. Right now, I’ve got a Marina, I’ve got a Carmel Valley, and a Mid-Valley, so I’m anywhere and everywhere— you name it. Where there’s a need, I’m definitely willing to consider going and use my skill set accordingly, and adapt accordingly. I take pride in being able to do that. It doesn’t matter if it’s a 30-million-dollar house on the coast— I can sell that just the same as I could a thousand-acre ranch in Carmel Valley. It just requires a different focus.
Q: What do you want people to know about Monterey Coast Realty?
A: While I am sure that in many ways this holds true already, I hope that Monterey Coast Realty can be known more for the name and the caliber and quality of service you can expect than associating the brand to a specific location. e Monterey Coast Realty name should instill confidence in people that they are being served by the fastest growing, privately owned brokerage on the Monterey Peninsula, equipped with the tools to help anyone produce a positive outcome for their real estate needs, no matter the location. e truth is that Monterey Coast Realty agents operate in markets throughout the state, and the team we have in place from marketing to management prepares us every day to further cater to a successful outcome for our clients, no matter the market. And some of us are more comfortable getting dirty than others.

Successfully entertaining guests at home requires more than simply being organized. e best events showcase the creativity and personality of the host, and that’s where Robin Sevrina Olson of Host House Carmel
and Heather Palmer of Sea Blush Studios can help you shine. e two women have joined forces, specializing in their latest design collaboration and concierge services, to bring customers the perfect atmosphere-enhancing
collection of furniture, décor, and other necessities to keep your house looking sharp and your company entertained. e two women have a partnership based on mutual respect and life parallels, and work in unison to bring beauty to the homes of Carmel and the greater Monterey Peninsula. “Owning your own business is difficult, and finding someone to pair with who has similar ideas and values and business ideas is hard. We have these similar parallels that make us understand that when one of us is going through something, the other one supports them. If you don’t have that, you won’t survive in business or in life, frankly,” Heather says.
Host House has operated on Sixth Avenue between Dolores & San Carlos Street in downtown Carmel-by-the-Sea for the last two years. It’s a boutique filled to the brim with scalloped mango wood bowls, olive oil jars, California-centric coffee table books, handwoven throw blankets, and other treasures. Since Spring of 2025, Host House’s collaboration with boutique home staging and interior design studio Sea Blush Studios gives customers even more choices. You’ll now find an expansion of high quality, customizable furniture in soft creamy shades and earthy wood tones, styling and staging packages, and more. “Our style is modern, contemporary, coastal, casual…that lifestyle that just invites you in and
makes you feel warm and cozy. I think what’s different for us as a business is that if there’s a home that’s very cottage, or “coastal grandmother,” we’ll lean into that. If there’s a home in Carmel Valley, we have a certain vibe that we go with there, that’s a little bit more western, old-style California, and we bring in mission style elements. We kind of work all those pieces in, but always keeping in mind that California coastal feel,” Heather says. And while the team is aware of what’s trendy, they don’t let it define their work. “I’m drawn towards neutrals. We did see a lot of color coming into design trends, and we have seen this evolution back to neutrals and wood tones, and different textures, organic, and that’s right
up our alley,” Robin explains. When they do incorporate color in the homes they stage or design, they pull inspiration straight from nature. “We’ll pull a foggy blue-gray, or a green from the cypress tree. We try to use the tones that are outside the window so that it feels calming and relaxing. I think that’s what gives us an edge from businesses that are out of town is that we’re so aware—we live here. We look outside and know. We just appreciate it in a different way,” says Heather.
e idea for Host House was sparked in 2017 after Robin’s family purchased a 1969 A-frame cabin in Lake Tahoe. When not in use by her family, the Minneapolis native decided
to turn it into an Airbnb. “I just loved the process of completely gutting the cabin and taking it down to the studs and touching every square inch and renovating it and designing it and from there. It was stocking the kitchen with everything you need in an Airbnb and stocking the linens, and all the furniture,” Robin says. With a background in corporate events, Robin knew how to run a business, and it was only a matter of time before she started her next venture.
Coincidentally, years before meeting each other, Heather and her family had also bought and remodeled an old cabin in an area near Lake Tahoe in 2016. “It’s fun that our lives have had these interesting

parallels where we didn’t know each other but we were kind of doing the same thing. It’s funny how life puts certain people in your life,” Heather says. Her Sea Blush Studios was born around four years ago after she moved to the area from Marin, California with her family in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. After a local real estate agent contacted her and urged her to get into home staging, she took a chance. Using her interior design background, she developed a brand-new company combining staging and interiors. “My first [local] client was a Carmel Realty agent, Christine Chin. I don’t even know if she knew that it was my first job, but a friend had met her in an open house and she had expressed the need for staging. It was an absolutely adorable historic Carmel cottage, my dream project right by the Forest eater. And I literally
invented my business as I was going through that process. e house sold quickly, the buyers loved everything, it was just one of those storybook tales. I drive by this house almost every day and it just gives me a warm feeling, that that’s where this all started.”
Robin and Heather eventually crossed paths after volunteering in the local youth dance scene while supporting their daughters. eir friendship wasn’t necessarily instant. But what was present from the very beginning was respect. “I don’t think at that time I was thinking that we would necessarily work together, but I had this very high respect for her. And I remember when she told me that she was opening the store. Seeing someone chasing after their dreams—especially after COVID, when everything was so crazy—I was so excited for her,” Heather says.
" THE HOUSE SOLD QUICKLY, THE BUYERS LOVED EVERYTHING, IT WAS JUST ONE OF THOSE STORYBOOK TALES." -Heather, Sea Blush Studios
e Host House and Sea Blush partnership arose in part due to the demand for good quality local furnishings. “We do staging twice a week, and we do interior design three days a week. And then we are doing the store in between. at’s something I think a lot of people don’t realize—we are doing it all,” Heather says. “Our clients want to sit on a couch, they want to touch things, and given the Monterey Peninsula—it’s hard. Real estate is so expensive here that furniture stores can’t have these gigantic storerooms. So, it was important for us to find things we could stand behind, but also that our clients could come experience in person. We are people that live here and have families here and these are pieces that we know are going to last, going to be beautiful, and going to compliment the home,” Heather says. “We have really expanded furniture offerings but what you see here is really a sampling of just a fraction of what we have access to in terms of how big the line is. We have thousands of pieces to choose from within this line. It’s given us a chance for clients to come in and touch, and feel and experience

the quality and then we can sit down and take them through more options,” Robin adds. “Being a small local business, we can provide that extra layer and level of customer service that some of the bigger ones just can’t. And I think that’s where we can really stand out and compete in a sense that a client can come in here and talk one-on-one with the owners and brainstorm or troubleshoot a problem.”
e thing that Robin and Heather believe in most is supporting other small local or California-based businesses. “We want to support families who are here, too. Even with the shop, we look for local artisans, we try to find local business to support. When we refer art, we work with Monica Graham Fine Art next door, we work with other galleries. We’re all about being a community,” Heather says. More than 60-percent of their inventory comes from small
companies from the Golden State. “Visitors are drawn to that, especially out-of-towners who are looking for that special piece from California. Just really trying to support small businesses, because we know as small businesses, that they need that support as well,” Robin says. “Most of our furniture is American made, which is unusual nowadays, so we try to support that as well. I think when we can’t source something micro-locally, we look outside California. And some of our vendors started out as local businesses and have since moved but we continued to carry them. It’s something that’s always on the forefront though,” Heather adds. As for being a part of the “fabric” of what makes Carmel-by-theSea so special, Heather says, “it’s something you can’t even really put words into, but I think it is just this whole kind of vibe we live every single day. Getting to park our car on the street and walk and
unlock the door, it’s magical.” Robin agrees. “It’s so unique to be part of such a small town in the retail community here. When I first decided to open the shop, it was a piece of it I didn’t realize I was going to love so much. at community feeling, and you get to know the business owners around you, and some are restaurant owners, some are gallery owners, some are other retail owners, but we all support each other and send business each other’s way, and it’s really special just because it is such a small community feel. It’s a very unique environment to have a shop.”
Aside from staging, interior design, and styling, the Host House and Sea Blush duo offers concierge services that include anything from private event planning, to picking up fresh flowers, stocking a client’s full pantry, or helping plan open houses. For their first project together earlier this spring, they applied all of their skills to staging a special Carmel Realty property in Pacific Grove.
“Robin came in and brought styling from Host House and helped with the overall design... Bringing in furniture, and bedding, and towels, and greenery for staging is hard enough, but that styling piece— I call it the ‘frosting,’ or that final layer—it’s so impactful.” And like frosting on a cake, the two women’s collaboration is the perfect pairing.
