RETHINKING THE NOTRE DAME
A Proposal for the Rejuvination for the Notre Dame Cathedral, Paris
Water from the River Seine diffuses
45m above the ground to create a cloud like mist outside
International Competition Independent Finalist
The sensory effect blocks traffic noise and readies the mind for englightenment
Traditional gothic architecture featured pointed arches as if reaching for heaven Its readapted exterior appears to float on a cloud, reminding us that heaven is closer than we think
While most of the architecture is conserved, the project features a new upper deck with an all glass facade and gold trimmings, inspired by descriptions of the Golden Gates. This area is meant for contemplation where one may be inspired to pursue their findings on earth.
The goal was to rethink the religious-spiritual experience and focus on creating a space that evokes enlightenment and empathy through exposure and experimental design.
The main floor features 17-35m livestreams of places under distress. Filmed at 1:1 scale, the viewers are immersed into the protagonist’s point of view. The Eyes of Notre Dame is a place of exposure and unbiased news. It exemplifies that echnology and prayer can coexist. Above all, the architecture does not care to be admired or looked at, rather, it wants it audience to look within.

RETHINKING THE FRENCH DINING EXPERIENCE
A Proposal for a restaurant along the River, Seine, Paris, France.
International Competition
Independent Honorable Mention
This french restaurant features a three part sensory experience lead by gastronomy and supported by meaninful design.
Memory theatre: A conceptual stage that evokes memories. Guilo Camillo L’Idea del Theatro, 16, CE.
Pensorse stair: A continual stair created by four 90-degree turns. Lionel Penrose, 59.
Flanerie: A 19th century french literary term for passionate wandering.
The kitchen is situated such that food circulates in the inverse motion that the tide enters the site.
The architecture embodies Sequana, the goddess of the River Seine, and establishes synergy between man and nature - yielding a mode of consciousness necessary for the memory theatre to work.
Kitchen dimensions introduce grid to the site.
Platforms are organized like penrose stairs to encourage flanerie and contemplation. Varying elevations make semi private dining spaces and enhance views of the river.
The consummatory phase, dominated by liking, shuts down existential thoughts and puts guests in a mindset similar to deep sleep - evoking a micocasm of life experiences to be revisited and imagined.
A wine bar at the topmost floor encourages an extended dining experience. Stairs soften the built topography and create opportunities for lounging and socializing.
As the meal progresses, individuals undergo the satiety phase, leaving them heightened by the earthly leasures and people surrounding them. Waiters are made protagonists of the dining experience by highlighting their circuation with exaggerated ramps. Embodying a runway, the architecture showcases food and serves as the ideal place to be seen.
ACEDO, DIAGRAMATIC STORYTELLING
A diagrammatic narrative of Rem Koolhaas’ Bordeaux House
Academic Project Independent
Occupancy Study, Ink on poster paper, 36”’ x 60”
Red dots on the house plan resemble each member of the household. Repeated in three hour increments over a week, a narrative is formed showing how the family uses space over time.
Guadalupe Acedo is the housekeeper of the Lemoine family’s Bordeaux House which was famously designed by Rem Koolhaas. The house’s structural and programmatic mysteries are best explored through the short film Koolhaas Houselife by Ila Beka and Louise Lemoine. The camera trails behind Mme. Acedo as she runs through her daily duties around the house. We see her gather the roundabout curtains on the main floor then head to the heart of the architectural study, Mr. Lemoine’s elevator slab, which was known for its ability to programmatically merge with the floor it lands on. Given Guadalupe’s knowing nature of the well-known home, this Koolhaas case study is named ACEDO.

Solar Collector Panels
Using solar technology, energy is stored to heat and cool the building. Heat transports from the energy panels to a transfer medium (concrete) to heat the building.
Glass Facade and Concrete Thermal Mass
The glass facade allows heat to be stored within the concrete structural walls. This is particularly beneficial for heating the buildings ramps which curve around most of the building’s perimeter.
Moss Roof/Green Roof
Moss is a lightweight layer added atop the roof assembly. It aids in increasing thermal performance of storm water retention. Excess water passes through the moss, filtering large debris. The water is then purified and recycled in the building.

GOLDEN MILE
A social, economic, and environmental study and proposal for Golden Mile, Scarborough
Academic Project Collaborative
In coordination with the Port Lands 2024 project, the Port Lands Theatre imagines pedestrian and row friendly pathways throughout the site. As such, the land is divided into three islands which also maximizes waterfront views. The curved waterways and pathways accentuate the theatre’s cylindrical form and entice passersby to circulate the architecture.

Personal project Independent https://tinyurl.com/mira-aconversation-generator
Mira is a conversation generator between a, yourself, and b, a person, place, thing, or concept of study. Both a and b may be played by the one person. The idea is for the user to apply their knowledge of b, the topic of study, to their own curiosities and creations. See right side of page for details.
Is there anything we can note about tone, feeling, or values when analyzing users’ strokes to captions?

Gordon Pask’s 1975 theory became a framework for cybernetics. It organized the ways in which A, man, and B, machine, can learn from one another (see diagram above).
This project applies the Conversation Theory model to the Daniels Faculty Building in the hopes that the new architecture, its curricula, and syllabi become responsive to the wellness of its users.

AR/VR Overview: Site (Daniels Faculty of Architecture, 1 Spadina Cres.)
This thesis explores empathy through augmented and virtual reality architecture. It translates the statistics from the Daniels Health and Wellbeing Report into AR/VR installations. While statistics flatten the student experience, the installations give students the opportunity to experience the dataset and empathize with their peers. With isolation from schools coming to a close due to the pandemic, I saw it necessary to create an opporunity for students to better understand how their peers are doing.

Name of Educator: Monique Lizardo
OCAD University
Michael ( JOONGMIN) Park #3187413
This is Michael Park from South Korea who is the international student. I would like to nominate the Monique Lizardo for this 2022- 2023 teaching aw ards. This year is the first time to study in Canada with physical education and I was not fully prepared to start the semester (Because of my military service, officially “the 2 years of the gap years ”) And the class “Circular Design” was the main course for this semester
The course begins with the direction of “res ponsibilities of designer” and through the lectures and research, I can get the academic assist such as emailing, continual examine from Monique even there is language barriers. Through the help, can fully comprehended how the course and design goal goes and can be able how to establish the academic milestones.
She is really supportive and enthusiastic when we doing the projects, and furthermore, she can offers some visions such I never thought before, and inspirational things. Therefore, I can develop the learning skills and criteria while studying in Canada.
As a result, I am nominating Monique Lizardo for the 2022- 2023 teaching awards. W ith this award, it will be a cornerstone for providing education that can be very helpful to other students, including myself.
Best Regards.

MoniqueLizardo-Awards22-23-en
I’ve had the pleasure of be ng in Monique’s class this W nter 2023 semester Her classroom was a refreshing space where the students and the professor had open d scussions on how to maneuver a earning env ronment that would be benef c a to all parties Her hol stic approach to teaching created an inclusive earning space where we got to strengthen our weaknesses, as well as play to our strengths Monique is a great embodiment of the new pedagog c ethos we as a society are headed towards and what we are already seeing today
To whom it may concern,
I would like to nominate Monique Lizardo for the teaching awards. As a student in her classroom, she has developed my critical thinking skills for design practices through weekly assignments. She continues to be engaging by having students think outside the box through iterative designs and building on our practice. Beginning by identifying issues, then learning to solve them, I have personally looked at Industrial Design in a new light through Monique’s teachings by adopting problem-solving skills in order to ensure my presentations are succinct and detailed. She creates space without judgement for our ideas and allows us to discuss and build upon our own research, while also asking questions that can expand the information we’ve collected. Monique has been flexible with our work, encouraging us to reflect with our peers in order to utilize everyone’s variety of skills and work together to build stronger projects.
Monique has also introduced new concepts, such as the cradle-to-cradle chart, in order to look externally at the world’s current design processes. I have benefited from the resources she has provided in order to think more critically about the path which my assignments take. Monique has also presented us with her personal works, one of which was most notable to me was her involvement in architectural curricula writing and learning tools design for HoodCentury, highlighting her teaching in black neighbourhoods about architecture and design.
Kind regards, Joshua Castellano
