The escalation of racial discrimination in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic is, in my opinion, the most important issue in these times. Inequalities and errors of judgment have increased with the pandemic. This crisis highlights problems and above all injustices that target and unfortunately lead to communities and individuals being heavily affected by a high rate of mortality and precariousness.

Equitable access to COVID-19 vaccine

My favorite issue this year for FerMUN 2022 is “How to ensure global and equitable access to COVID-19 vaccines?” from WHO 3. To me personally, this issue has an enormous value due to its global effect. It relates to a subject the whole world has been affected by and everyone can relate to. It also ensures the spread of equality for a deadly pandemic and shows the mobilisation of youth towards such an important topic.

Mon thème préféré cette année pour FerMUN 2022 est «Comment assurer un accès mondial et équitable aux vaccins COVID-19 ?» de l’OMS 3. Personnellement, ce thème a une valeur énorme en raison de son effet global. Elle porte sur un sujet qui a touché le monde entier et auquel tout le monde peut s’identifier. Il assure également la diffusion de l’égalité pour une pandémie mortelle et montre la mobilisation des jeunes envers un sujet aussi important.

UNITED NATIONS ENVIRONMENT PROGRAMME

TWO CRUCIAL CHALLENGES OF THE 21ST CENTURY In this decade of UN action on water and sustainable development, UNEP (United Nations Environment Programme) is busy. Two themes will be passionately debated by our delegates: the preservation of the Arctic and access to clean water.

Although these issues may seem to be two separate areas, they have much more in common than meets the eye. They both invite us to ask the same question: should we choose preservation or exploitation?

As the Arctic Sea melts, it reveals a wonderful energy potential. It could power our power plants for decades, stop the terrible exploitation of rare earths in the Congo and reduce maritime traffic. Water is also finding more and more profitable uses, especially with the renewable energy craze.

Blue Gold” in danger The «blue gold», as UNESCO calls it, attracts covetousness. Its preservation is endangered by the appetites of states and private individuals. Pollution, acidification and scarcity are just some of the threats facing our waters.

With the support of 90 delegates from all over the world, with different economic interests and environmental issues, your presidents are confident that they will work towards a consensus based on sustainable exploitation.

En cette décennie d’action des Nations-Unies sur l’eau et le développement durable, le PNUE (Programme des Nations-Unies sur l’Environnement) est bien occupé. Deux thématiques seront passionnément débattues par nos délégués: la préservation de l’Arctique et l’accès à l’eau potable.

Bien que ces thématiques semblent relever de deux domaines distincts, ils ont beaucoup plus en commun que ce qu’on y voit au premier abord.

Toutes deux nous invitent, au fond, au même questionnement: faut-il choisir la préservation ou l’exploitation?

A mesure de sa fonte, la mer Arctique révèle un potentiel énergétique merveilleux. Elle pourrait alimenter nos centrales électriques pendant des décennies, mettre fin à la terrible exploitation des terres rares au Congo et réduire le trafic maritime. L’eau trouve aussi de plus en plus d’utilisations profitables notamment avec l’engouement des énergies renouvelables.

Mise en danger de “L’or bleu” “L’or bleu”, comme la qualifie l’UNESCO, attire de fait les convoitises. Sa préservation est mise en danger par les appétits des Etats, et des privés. Pollution, acidification et pénurie ne sont que des menaces parmi d’autres auxquelles nos eaux font face.

Avec l’appui de 90 délégués venus des quatres coins du monde, aux intérêts économiques et problématiques environnementales diverses, vos présidentes ont bon espoir de travailler vers un consensus basé sur une exploitation durable.

TWO PLAGUES OF THE 21ST CENTURY Châpo missing

We are delighted to debate such important issues. The first issue concerns the global and equitable access to COVID-19 vaccines. Indeed, the pandemic spread quickly and it is currently the only preventive measure we have against the coronavirus.

To stop the proliferation of the virus everyone needs to have access to the vaccine. Due to globalization, if certain countries get infected it will automatically spread worldwide. Therefore the WHO will be looking for ways to improve the equitable distribution of vaccines. We are very pleased to have the opportunity to have delegates from all around the world discuss such a critical issue. The right to healthcare is a fundamental right and that’s why we’re glad to see delegates being thoughtful about it and doing their best to provide solutions to this issue.

Two plagues of the 21st century This year, WHO has two very relevant issues, one of them being: What measures can be taken to prevent and manage the chronic diseases of obesity and diabetes? This issue is crucial in today’s world because diabetes and obesity are two plagues of the twenty-first century that receive little attention. Moreover, since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, few people are talking about other diseases which are still omnipresent.

Today, obesity is the cause of 4 million deaths per year, particularly in high income countries, while diabetes affects 425 million people.

FerMUN is an incredible experience that brings together people from all over the world with different cultural backgrounds, which allows for a diverse panel of views on these global

problems. That’s why at WHO this year, we hope that your ideas will bind together to create resolutions that reflect your personality, your vision and your hopes for the world.

En effet, la pandémie s’est propagée rapidement et c’est actuellement la seule mesure préventive dont nous disposons contre le coronavirus. Pour arrêter la prolifération du virus, tout le monde doit avoir accès au vaccin. En raison de la mondialisation, si certains pays sont infectés, le virus se répand automatiquement dans le monde entier. L’OMS cherche donc des moyens d’améliorer la distribution équitable des vaccins. Nous sommes très heureux d’avoir l’occasion de voir des délégués du monde entier discuter d’une question aussi cruciale. Le droit aux soins de santé est un droit fondamental, c’est pourquoi nous sommes heureux de voir les délégués y réfléchir et faire de leur mieux pour apporter des solutions à ce problème.

Deux fléaux du 21ème siècle Cette année, l’OMS a deux questions très pertinentes, dont l’une est la suivante : Quelles mesures peut-on prendre pour prévenir et prendre en charge les maladies chroniques que sont l’obésité et le diabète ? Cette question est cruciale dans le monde d’aujourd’hui car le diabète et l’obésité sont deux fléaux du XXIe siècle auxquels on prête peu d’attention. De plus, depuis le début de la pandémie de Covid-19, peu de gens parlent des autres maladies qui restent pourtant omniprésentes. Aujourd’hui, l’obésité est la cause de 4 millions de décès par an, notamment dans les pays à haut revenu, tandis que le diabète touche 425 millions de personnes. FerMUN est une expérience incroyable qui rassemble des personnes du monde entier avec des origines culturelles différentes, ce qui permet d’avoir un panel de points de vue variés sur ces problèmes mondiaux.

C’est pourquoi, à l’OMS cette année, nous espérons que vos idées se lieront pour créer des résolutions qui reflètent votre personnalité et vos visions, ainsi que vos espoirs pour le monde.

THE INCREASE OF DISCRIMINATIONS AGAINST MINORITIES In charge of promoting and protecting human rights throughout the world, the Human Rights Council (HRC) acts in favour of the exercising and maintenance of such rights.

This year, the HRC is gathering to address the two following issues: “What measures can be adopted to combat human rights violations of religious minorities?” and “How to address the escalation of racial discrimination in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic?”.

From the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, numerous forms of racial discriminations and stigmatisation have been seen and noted. Solutions in several specific domains, such as education, justice and health care, can be suggested. Inclusion and cohesion are the only means to reduce prevailing vulnerabilities in ethnic groups and to put an end to hatred.

Solutions to consider On the other hand, the problem of human rights violations of religious minorities holds a prominent importance in society. Unfortunately, the infringements towards religious minorities are persistently growing and usually lead to persecutions. It is essential to target different fields, to prevent the disregard of human rights of religious minorities, in political, cultural, juridistic and scholastic areas.

Cette année, le Conseil des Droits de l’Homme se réunit pour traiter les deux problématiques suivantes: “Quelles mesures adopter pour lutter contre les atteintes aux droits de l’homme des minorités religieuses” ainsi que “Comment faire face à l’intensification de la discrimination raciale dans le contexte de la pandémie de Covid-19?”.

Depuis le début de la pandémie de Covid-19, de nombreuses formes de discriminations et de stigmatisations raciales ont été signalées. Des solutions dans 6 domaines spécifiques, tels que l’éducation, la justice et les soins de santé, sont proposées. L’inclusion et la cohésion permettent de

Des solutions, dans le cadre des discriminations liées à la pandémie et des violations des droits de l’homme des minorités religieuses, doivent être sérieusement étudiées et mises en application.

The World Intellectual Property Organisation’s committee is debating the issues: «How to guarantee the promotion and diffusion of environmentally sound technologies on a global scale?», and «in what ways can intellectual property be used efficiently in order to lessen health hazards linked to the COVID-19 pandemic”?

Our topics lead us to debate issues that are ever-present in the news.

The health crisis has highlighted the importance of information and accessibility of scientific research by the population.

In order to learn how to protect oneself in the face of such an upheaval, which has rapidly destabilised the entire world, and to facilitate access to the COVID-19 vaccine, intellectual property laws that adapt to this pandemic are essential.

The development of eco-responsible technologies Secondly, the environmental crisis is evidence of an urgent need for change, for adaptation, but above all for a transition to green. The development of eco-responsible technologies shows how intellectual property enables scientific contribution to the common good, and above all, how the international community is moving towards sharing and improving communication.

The solutions to these problems are based on collaboration between governments and businesses. Intellectual property laws frame these collaborations and transitions. Information sharing is essential to any progress in the international arena. It is hoped to encourage mutual aid and inter-state cooperation to foster a promising future for all.

Le développement des technologies éco-responsables Ensuite, la crise environnementale est preuve d’un besoin urgent de changement, d’adaptation mais avant tout de transition vers le vert. Le développement de technologies éco-responsables montre à quel point la propriété intellectuelle permet la contribution scientifique vers le bien commun, et surtout l’avancée de la communauté internationale vers le partage et l’amélioration de la communication.

Les solutions à ces problèmes sont basées sur la collaboration entre gouvernements et entreprises. Les lois de propriété intellectuelle encadrent ces collaborations et ces transitions. Le partage d’information est essentiel à tout progrès dans le domaine international. On espère encourager l’entraide et la coopération interétatique afin de favoriser un avenir prometteur pour tous.

LABOR STANDARDS AND SOCIAL JUSTICE The International Labour Organisation’s objective is to advance social and economic justice through setting international labour standards.

Labour has and will always be a fundamental part of our society, henceforth it requires extensive and arduous work to uphold and ameliorate the system.

For FerMUN 2022, delegates in the ILO committee spent three days deliberating on two issues :

Fast fashion and perverse effects The first being : “How to mitigate labour exploitation within the textile industry and reduce the negative impacts of fast fashion?” Labour exploitation in the textile industry is rampant and evermore growing with fast fashion, which, without fast action in response, destroy further the livelihood of so many people. Furthermore the textile industry ecompases everyone, we all buy clothes for our day to day lives, so being such a large industry the standards need to be well established and protective of the vast amount of workers.

Education is essential in everyone’s life The second issue is: “How to provide affordable and high-quality education in order to promote a more skilled and resilient workforce?” Education is, or should be, an essential part of a person’s life. It prepares them for future careers, teaches them their strengths and weaknesses and integrates them into society. This implies a functional workforce cannot be made without proper education at its foundation.

Finding solutions for the problems that are situated at this foundation of the sector of labour, means that the solutions can spread throughout the system and create a wave of progress for our future.

L’Organisation Internationale du Travail a pour objectif d’enrichir la justice économique et sociale à travers l’implantation de standards de travail internationaux. Le travail est, et a toujours été, un pilier de notre société.

Toutefois, aujourd’hui, il nécessite un travail ardu et considérable pour maintenir et améliorer notre système.

Pendant FerMUN 2022, les délégués du comité ILO ont, pendant trois jours, débattu deux problématiques:

Le travail forcé augmente en suivant les lignes de la fast fashion, et sans actions visant à l’en empêcher, il détruit le lieu de vie de nombreuses personnes. De plus, l’industrie du textile touche le monde entier, on achète

tous des vêtements dans notre vie de tous les jours, donc pour une telle industrie les standards se doivent d’être bien établis et de protéger les nombreux travailleurs.

L’éducation, essentielle dans la vie de chacun La deuxième problématique est : “Comment fournir un enseignement accessible et de qualité afin de promouvoir une main-d’œuvre plus qualifiée et résiliente ?”. L’Éducation est, ou devrait être, une part cruciale de la vie de tout un chacun. Elle nous forme à nos futurs métiers, elle nous apprend à renforcer nos faiblesses, et elle permet de nous inclure dans la société. Ainsi, la force ouvrière ne peut exister sans une base d’éducation. Trouver des solutions répondant aux problèmes actuels au sein du monde du travail peut engendrer une vague de progrès pour le futur.

UN SECURITY COUNCIL

MIDDLE EAST IN THE CORE OF GEOPOLITICAL ISSUES January 7, 2022 marks the beginning of the UN Security Council, the temple of geopolitics and international diplomacy.

The issues at stake, namely the humanitarian crisis in Yemen and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, raise considerable stakes in a historically very unstable region: the Middle East.

Indeed, the young delegates have ardently defended their positions, with a breathtaking enthusiasm and commitment that demonstrate the unsuspected levels of maturity and commitment of our generation.

Our generation will have to deal with increasingly complex problems. Our generation will have to promote peace, international security, and multilateralism, the cornerstones of the United Nations. In extenso, this generation will have to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the humanitarian crisis in Yemen, trying where everyone else has failed.

Crucial issues for the respect of human rights And note that the issues that arise during our debates converge on a single point: respect for human rights and civilians, the first victims of armed crises and the last in the decision-making chain. The paradox thus reaches its paroxysm!

This explains why our young delegates preferred the path of dialogue, diplomacy, compromise and collective consensus, while respecting the supreme interests of each Member State of the Security Council.

Le 7 Janvier 2022 marque le début des travaux du Conseil de Sécurité de l’ONU, temple de la géopolitique et de la diplomatie internationale.

Les thématiques abordées, à savoir: la crise humanitaire au Yémen et le conflit israélo-palestinien rélèvent des enjeux considérables dans une région historiquement très instable :

le Moyen-Orient. En effet, les jeunes délégués ont ardemment défendu leurs positions, avec un entrain et un engouement époustouflants qui démontrent les degrés de maturité et d’engagement insoupçonnés chez notre génération.

Notre génération qui devra régler des problèmes de plus en plus complexes. Notre génération qui devra promouvoir la paix, la sécurité internationale, et le multilatéralisme, pierres angulaires de l’Organisation des Nations Unies. In extenso, cette génération devra donc régler les conflits israélo-palestiniens et la crise humanitaire du Yémen, en essayant là où tout le monde a échoué.

Des enjeux cruciaux pour le respect des droits de l’Homme Et notez que les enjeux qui se dressent au fur et à mesure de nos débats convergent vers un seul et unique point: le respect des droits de l’Homme et des civils, premières victimes des crises armées, et dernières dans la chaîne de prises de décision.

Le paradoxe atteint donc son paroxysme !

Cela explique donc pourquoi nos jeunes délégués ont privilégié la voie du dialogue, de la diplomatie, du compromis et du consensus collectif, dans le respect des intérêts suprêmes de chaque Etat membre du Conseil de Sécurité.

BILINGUALISM

BILINGUALISM, A MAJOR CHALLENGE FOR FERMUN At each conference, we make the bet that each young person who masters only one language of the conference can fully integrate, participate and be an actor of the debates.

Interpretation This year at FerMUN, we have had to cope with the changes imposed by the pandemic. For the second time in a row, we had to set up interpretation without access to UN technical equipment.

Initially, the conference was to be held partially face-to-face, and we had to use our imagination to figure out how to allow for fluent oral translation with nothing more than a sheet of paper and a pen. It was under these circumstances that the bilingualism team broke new ground in creating consecutive interpretation. This method consists of the interpreter intervening at the end of each speech to provide a translated summary of what was said. The interpreters have made every effort to adapt to this new system, with as much courage as reliability. I congratulate them on their perseverance.

However, the story of bilingualism at FerMUN 2022 does not end there. In the week leading up to the conference, new health restrictions meant that the conference was held entirely online. As such, we had to learn to adapt to this transition in just a few days, when it is usually a months-long process. Again, I want to commend the interpretation team for their responsiveness and ability to adapt in a hurry.

The Ferney Model United Nations has until now been unique in that it is one of the only ones to offer bilingual services. Now FerMUN can also be proud of its proven flexibility and ability to accommodate the most challenging circumstances. I hope that bilingualism can provide future FerMUN participants with an experience as rich as the one I received.

Cette année à FerMUN, nous avons fait face avec difficulté aux changements imposés par la pandémie. Pour la deuxième fois consécutive, nous avons dû mettre en place l’interprétation sans l’accès au matériel technique onusien.

Au départ, la conférence devait se tenir partiellement en présentiel, et nous avons eu recours à notre imagination pour trouver comment permettre la fluidité de la traduction

orale, avec rien de plus qu’une feuille et un stylo. C’est dans ces circonstances que l’équipe de bilinguisme a fait preuve d’innovation lors de la création de l’interprétation consécutive. Cette méthode consiste à ce que l’interprète intervienne à la fin de chaque prise de parole, pour apporter un résumé traduit des propos tenus. Les interprètes se sont efforcés de s’adapter à ce nouveau fonctionnement, avec autant de courage que de fiabilité. Je les félicite de leur persévérance.

Cependant, l’histoire du bilinguisme à FerMUN 2022 ne s’arrête pas là. Dans la semaine précédant la conférence, de nouvelles restrictions sanitaires ont fait que la conférence s’est tenue entièrement en ligne. Ainsi, nous avons dû apprendre à nous adapter à cette transition en quelques jours seulement, alors que c’est d’ordinaire un travail de plusieurs mois. Encore

HAVING A CONFERENCE DURING COVID

100% ONLINE AND INNOVATIVE The use of a platform developed by professional computer scientists and former Muners has enriched the exchanges and quickly federated the FerMUN community.

Andrea The pandemic has changed Model United Nations, its conferences and weekly school activities. We can be disappointed about this fact and argue that we miss the face-to-face interaction as well as traveling, team building and social interaction. We can also argue that the online setting was long overdue and has, for example, resulted in positive environmental changes such as less paper being used for printing, and less CO2 emission since schools do not travel half-way across the globe anymore for a 3-day conference.

The idea of the MUN World Platform was born at the beginning of the pandemic out of necessity to provide a common online space for communication and for sharing of information among individual delegates, within a committee, and among delegations across committees. Initially, online conferences moved to conference calls only.

However, the platform allows delegates to participate and it allows chairs to manage the debate. The voting systems and bilateral relations via an interactive world map create a more engaging and interactive conference experience.

Finally, the platform allows for pre-conference lobbying and discussion outside the scheduled debate sessions.

We sincerely hope that some travel will be possible in the near future to allow students (and directors!) to interact in person again. However, the pandemic has given us the chance to review how our lives, school, work and travel are organized. We believe that the online setting is going to be a permanent feature in many areas of life, including the MUN world. Suddenly, we can attend MUN conferences in India or Brazil without making travel arrangements, eager MUN students can participate as independent, single delegates and schools without the financial means to travel internationally have the opportunity to meet students from across the globe online and still create lasting friendships.

Having hosted over 10 different conferences over the last 14 months, the MUN World Team has realized just how unique every conference is. FERMUN was our first bilingual conference and with the last-minute decision to move another 300+ participants online, the organizers were faced with unprecedented challenges. We com-

mend the FERMUN Directors and Board for their perseverance, great communication and organizational skills.

La pandémie a changé le Modèle des Nations Unies, ses conférences et les activités scolaires hebdomadaires.

Nous pouvons être déçus de ce fait et faire valoir que l’interaction en face à face nous manque, ainsi que les voyages, la constitution d’équipes et l’interaction sociale. Nous pouvons également affirmer que la mise en ligne était attendue depuis longtemps et qu’elle a, par exemple, entraîné des changements environnementaux positifs, comme la réduction de la consommation de papier pour l’impression et la diminution des émissions de CO2, puisque les écoles ne voyagent plus à l’autre bout du monde pour une conférence de trois jours.

L’idée de la plateforme MUN World est née au début de la pandémie, par nécessité de fournir un espace en ligne commun pour la communication et le partage d’informations entre les délégués individuels, au sein d’un comité et entre les délégations de plusieurs comités. Au départ, les conférences en ligne se résumaient à des conférences téléphoniques. Cependant, la plateforme permet aux délégués de participer et aux présidents de gérer le débat. Les systèmes de vote et les relations bilatérales via une carte du monde interactive créent une expérience de conférence plus engageante et interactive. Enfin, la plateforme permet de faire du lobbying et de discuter avant la conférence, en dehors des sessions de débat prévues.

Nous espérons sincèrement qu’il sera possible de voyager dans un avenir proche pour permettre aux étudiants (et aux directeurs !) d’interagir à nouveau en personne.

Toutefois, la pandémie nous a donné l’occasion de revoir l’organisation de nos vies, de nos études, de notre travail et de nos déplacements. Nous pensons que le cadre en ligne va devenir une caractéristique permanente dans de nombreux domaines de la vie, y compris dans le monde des MUN. Soudain, nous pouvons assister à des conférences MUN en Inde ou au Brésil sans avoir à organiser de voyage, les étudiants MUN enthousiastes peuvent

participer en tant que délégués indépendants et les écoles qui n’ont pas les moyens financiers de voyager à l’étranger ont la possibilité de rencontrer en ligne des étudiants du monde entier tout en créant des amitiés durables.

Ayant accueilli plus de 10 conférences différentes au cours des 14 derniers mois, l’équipe de MUN World a réalisé à quel point chaque conférence est unique. FERMUN était notre première conférence bilingue et avec la décision de dernière minute de déplacer plus de 300 participants en ligne, les organisateurs ont été confrontés à des défis sans précédent. Nous félicitons les directeurs et le conseil d’administration de FERMUN pour leur persévérance, leur grande communication et leur sens de l’organisation.

HAVING A CONFERENCE DURING COVID

WHEN YOUTH DARES TO TAKE ACTION 4 young people from 3 continents with different backgrounds invite us to take action.

Chesper TUNGA We are the seeds for a fruitful tomorrow. We, as young people, should be inspired to take action whenever possible. Being involved allows us to let our imagination soar with ideas, help others in our communities or even to discover something about ourselves that we hadn’t previously seen.

We aren’t appreciative of what we have so we don’t see the need to look for solutions for serious world crises.

As we are the future, it’s important to understand and be passionate about our world. Just like the previous generation, we have to think of solutions for ourselves and generations to come and we should start early.

That is not the case at the moment and this really needs to change.

Climate change is one of the biggest challenges we are facing, temperatures are rising and it’s estimated that it will increase from 2.6 degrees Celsius to 4.8 degrees Celsius by 2100. Param Jaggi thought of creating a device that can convert carbon dioxide emissions from vehicles into oxygen through his love of environmentalism

We should strive for a tomorrow where the earth is thriving, not dying, where gender isn’t an advantage or disadvantage when looking for jobs, where famine is a myth, where we aren’t afraid of the future! We should take action while we still can.

Nous sommes les graines d’un avenir fructueux. En tant que jeunes, nous devrions être incités à agir chaque fois que cela est possible. S’impliquer nous permet de laisser libre cours à notre imagination, d’aider les autres dans nos communautés ou même de découvrir quelque chose sur nousmêmes que nous ne pourrions pas voir.

Nous n’apprécions pas ce que nous avons et nous ne voyons pas la nécessité de chercher des solutions aux graves crises mondiales. En tant que futur citoyens de demain, il est important de comprendre et d’être passionnés par notre monde. Tout comme la génération passée, nous devons réfléchir à des solutions pour nous-mêmes et les générations à venir et nous devrions commencer tôt.

Ce n’est pas le cas et cela doit vraiment changer.

Le changement climatique est l’un des plus grands défis auxquels nous sommes confrontés. Les températures augmentent et on estime qu’elles passeront de 2,6°C à 4,8°C d’ici 2100. C’est par amour de l’environnement que Param Jaggi a pensé à créer un dispositif capable de transformer en oxygène les émissions de dioxyde de carbone des véhicules.

Nous devrions nous efforcer de créer des lendemains où la terre prospère et ne meurt pas, où le sexe n’est pas

un avantage ou un désavantage dans la recherche d’un emploi, où la famine est un mythe, où nous n’avons pas peur de l’avenir ! Nous devons agir tant que nous le pouvons encore.

Notre monde est tristement confronté au réchauffement climatique, à la diminution des ressources, au développement de la pauvreté, ou encore l’accentuation des inégalités sociales.

Face à cette triste réalité, notre jeune génération ne reste pas silencieuse, bien au contraire, elle s’active à faire entendre sa voix, s’engage pour un monde plus juste et meilleur.

Aux quatre coins du globe s’élèvent des voix de la jeunesse, et avec elle, l’espoir en des jours meilleurs : Que ce soit en Europe avec la lutte pour l’écologie de Greta Thunberg, en Asie où Tony Chung milite pour le maintien de la démocratie et le respect des droits humains à Hong Kong ou encore en Afrique avec la lutte pour la cohésion sociale et la tolérance religieuse effectué au Nigeria.

Nous observons une implication de plus en plus grande de la jeunesse œuvrant pour le bien-être commun, que ce soit au travers d’actions bénévoles, ou en lien avec la vie associative.

Chers jeunes, nous avons mené des actions, qu’elles aient été effectuées à grande échelle et médiatisées ou à petite échelle. Pourtant, il reste encore beaucoup à faire, pour rendre le

We are seeing an increasingly greater involvement of young people, working for the common well-being, whether through voluntary actions, or in community projects.

Dear young people, we have carried out actions, whether they were carried out on a large scale and broadcast or on a small scale. But there is still a long way to go in order to make the world a better place; so, don’t hesitate to get involved in what’s important to you.

inseparable from today’s world that they seem to have lost all dramatic effect. My homework load seems as inevitable as the fifth wave of covid, last night’s sports upset as unprecedented as the latest civil uprising, and the stain on my jeans as irreversible as the planet’s future now that we’ve passed scientists’ declared point of no return. And still, there are people who get up every day, in face of all odds, to fix what has been deemed unfixable. So what motivates us to attempt the seeming impossible?

There is no better answer than hope.

Hope fuels all change in our world, and its roots are strongest amongst the youth; however, precisely because of our youth, our dreams are deemed too naive to work in the “real world”. Despite this, young people’s hope is the driving force of positive change across the world. From Greta Thunberg’s climate strikes to teenagers across the globe fighting against racial inequality, the youth constantly expresses its hope in its fight for a better future. It is because we care so much about our world, because we have such high hopes for it, that we must fight so hard to save it. “Inevitable,” “unprecedented,” and “irreversible” only become real when we lose hope.

La charge de mes devoirs semble aussi inévitable que la cinquième vague de covidés, la défaite sportive d’hier soir aussi inédite que le dernier soulèvement civil, et la tâche sur mon jean aussi irréversible que l’avenir de la planète, maintenant que nous

avons dépassé le point de non-retour déclaré par les scientifiques. Et pourtant, il y a des gens qui se lèvent chaque jour, contre vents et marées, pour réparer ce qui a été jugé irréparable. Qu’est-ce qui nous pousse donc à tenter l’impossible ? Il n’y a pas de meilleure réponse que l’espoir.

L’espoir alimente tous les changements dans notre monde, et ses racines sont les plus fortes chez les jeunes ; cependant, précisément à cause de notre jeunesse, nos rêves sont jugés trop naïfs pour fonctionner dans le «monde réel». Malgré cela, l’espoir des jeunes est la force motrice du changement positif dans le monde. Des grèves climatiques de Greta Thunberg aux adolescents du monde entier luttant contre les inégalités raciales, la jeunesse exprime constamment son espoir dans sa lutte pour un avenir meilleur. C’est parce que nous nous soucions tant de notre monde, parce que nous avons de si grands espoirs pour lui, que nous devons nous battre si fort pour le sauver. «Inévitable», «sans précédent» et «irréversible» ne deviennent réels que lorsque nous perdons espoir.

Oliver QUARTERMAINE Growing up in the early 2000s young people are feeling and being put under more and more pressure to tackle the issues of the 21st century which at times seem to be insurmountable and multiplying by the month. The sheer scale of the issues affecting our world today can sometimes hinder people’s desire to take action with a sense of helplessness. And yet whilst it is hard to fathom, we must believe that every little bit that we do is going to improve the world.

Taking small, realistic actions on any given issue helps no matter at what scale. By stepping out of our comfort

zone to make small gestures we can make a big difference. As the Dalai Lama recently said:

En grandissant au début des années 2000, les jeunes se sentent et subissent de plus en plus de pression pour s’attaquer aux problèmes du 21ème siècle qui semblent parfois insurmontables et se multiplient chaque mois. L’ampleur des problèmes qui affectent notre monde aujourd’hui peut parfois entraver le désir des gens d’agir avec un sentiment d’impuissance. Et pourtant, bien que cela soit difficile à comprendre, nous devons croire que chaque petit geste que nous faisons va améliorer le monde. Il est important de prendre des mesures concrètes qui ne semblent pas insurmontables sur un problème quelle que soit l’échelle.

En sortant de notre zone de confort pour prendre de petites initiatives nous pouvons faire une grande différence. Comme l’a récemment dit le Dalaï Lama : « En tant que l’un des sept milliards d’êtres humains, je crois que tout le monde a la responsabilité de développer un monde plus heureux. En fin de compte, nous devons nous préoccuper davantage du bien-être des autres. En d’autres termes, la gentillesse ou la compassion, qui manquent maintenant.

LYCÉE FRANÇAIS BLAISE PASCAL, ABIDJAN (COTE D’IVOIRE) Abidjan, the economic capital of Côte d’Ivoire, the pearl of the lagoons, is one of the most dynamic and developed cities in West Africa. It attracts families from all the countries of the sub-region but also from other continents.

LYCÉE INTERNATIONAL JEAN MERMOZ, ABIDJAN (COTE D’IVOIRE) The International High School of Jean Mermoz (LIJM), located in Abidjan in Cocody, was opened in 2014, ten years after the final closure of the Jean Mermoz International Middle School, created in 1961. It is a French school abroad, under Ivorian law, managed by the Mission Laïque Côte d’Ivoire, which is linked to the Mission Laïque Française by agreement. Schooling is provided for 2350 pupils from the Year 1 to the Year 13 on a same site. LYCÉE PHILIPPINE DUCHESNE ITEC BOISFLEURY, CORENC (FRANCE) A high school of 1400 students nestled between three marvelous massifs: Belledonne, Chartreuse and Vercors.

Dynamism, enthusiasm and vitality are keywords. This geographical situation offers us a multitude of outdoor activities that we practice in the Sports Association or climbing that we offer as an option. It also allows for a great deal of culture, which our high school «satisfies» both inside and outside the school year.

The MUN activity has been progressively built in this multidirectional setting and can be savored at each conference. EXTERNAT NOTRE DAME, GRENOBLE (FRANCE) L’Externat Notre Dame is a school, located in Grenoble, in the middle of the French Alps, on the foothills of Vercors, Chartreuse and Belledonne. This school is belonging to the catholic schools which welcomes pupils from preschool to general high school. It distinguishes itself by a lot of dynamism. In addition, it organizes the Modèle Francophone Grenoblois des Nations Unies (MFGNU), each year, for 10 years. This is a MUN conference affiliated to the THIMUN, which welcome high schools from France and from different countries of the world. Finally, our school is very environmentally responsible and committed in the Charte de développement durable.

INSTITUT FÉNELON, GRASSE (FRANCE) Located in the heart of the historic city of Grasse, the world capital of perfume, and overlooking the shores of the Côte d’Azur, the Institut Fénelon has been welcoming students since 1919. Founded on the historic sites of former religious congregations, today it brings together more than 2000 students cevering Kindergarten to Lycee.

The British international section has created within the Institute a multicultural environment that is enriching and beneficial to the whole establishment. Through its participation in MUN conferences or in the Anglophone Festival of Performing Arts (FIPAF), the international section of Fénelon actively participates in the cultural outreach of the Institute.

INSTITUTION NOTRE DAME, VALENCE (FRANCE) Notre Dame Institution is a Catholic school serving students from kindergarten through high school. Our school celebrated its 100th anniversary at the start of the 20202021 school year.

L’Institution Notre Dame est un établissement catholique qui accueille des élèves de la maternelle jusqu’au baccalauréat. Notre établissement a fêté ses 100 ans lors de la rentrée scolaire 2020-2021.

In high school, IND has approximately 730 students in the seconde générale class through the terminale générale.

The students have access to dedicated facilities: classrooms, laboratories, computer rooms, courtyard, dining hall, workrooms, sports facilities...

Au lycée, l’IND compte environ 730 élèves de la classe de seconde générale jusqu’à la terminale générale. Les lycéens profitent de lieux réservés : salles d’enseignement, laboratoires, salles informatiques, cour, foyer, restaurant scolaire, salles de travail, installations sportives…

At IND, in addition to the common courses, students can choose options such as: Languages and Cultures of Antiquity, Plastic Arts, Theater, European English, Brevet d’Initiation Aéronautique, MUN, Cambridge, DELE. Our MUN club has grown during the last school year (2021-2022) and now counts 90 students who meet in groups for one hour per week.

A l’IND, en plus des enseignements communs, les élèves peuvent choisir des options telles que : Langues et cultures de l’Antiquité, Arts Plastiques, Théâtre, Anglais Européen, Brevet d’Initiation Aéronautique, MUN, Cambridge, DELE. INSTITUTION SAINT PAUL, SAINT ETIENNE (FRANCE) Tucked into the small streets in the heart of downtown Saint Etienne, the Saint Paul Institut has existed since it was an all-girls school in 1644. Since then, this school has opened up to all students, including international students coming from around the world. This global mindset has also led to Saint Paul’s involvement in FerMUN starting in 2016. Every year since, students from Saint Paul enthusiastically participate in these fantastic conferences, learning and enjoying themselves immensely.

Située en plein cœur de la ville de Saint-Etienne, l’Institution Saint-Paul a été créée en 1644, d’abord pour les jeunes filles de la région. Notre école s’est depuis ouverte à tous, y compris à des élèves venant de partout dans le monde. Cet état d’esprit ouvert à l’international a conduit Saint-Paul à participer à divers programmes MUN et PEJ (Parlement européen des jeunes) dont FerMUN depuis 2016. Les élèves de Saint -Paul sont toujours très enthousiastes à l’idée de participer à ces conférences pour l’expérience et l’apprentissage qu’elles leur apportent.

LYCÉE BLAISE PASCAL, CHARBONNIÈRES-LES-BAINS (FRANCE) One upon a time, to the West side of the great old city of Lyon was a modern all-glass school tucked away in the woods, and this is no exaggeration: we are literally in the middle of a meadow with a wood above the school and a river streaming past down below. Another fun fact: we have a train stop just for us, so much so that legend has it we once (right after construction) found a wandering man looking for the bathroom thinking that this was an odd station, way too big – about 1, 500 students are now enrolled.

Il était une fois un bâtiment moderne tout de verre et de béton vêtu, épousant le terrain en un S qui chemine au milieu d’une prairie, bordé par un bois d’un côté, une rivière de l’autre, c’est tout à la fois architecturalement intéressant et bucolique, c’est notre lycée, Blaise Pascal à Charbonnières-les-Bains à l’ouest de Lyon – qui a de surcroît un arrêt de train rien que pour lui, une particularité tout de même ! Les enseignants apprécient ces originalités, les 1 500 élèves on l’espère…

LYCÉE DE BELLEVUE, FORT-DE-FRANCE MARTINIQUE (FRANCE) Bellevue High School, in Fort-de-France, Martinique, covers nearly 7 hectares, and offers a breathtaking view of the Baie des Flamands. It was built from the 1960s onwards. It was long called «Lycée de Jeunes Filles». General de Gaulle made a speech there in 1964. It is the most important high school in Martinique with nearly 1,800 students, and many post-baccalaureate training (BTS, CPGE). Numerous sections and clubs are offered to students (music, plastic arts, sports, European sections, etc.), and in particular the BelMUN club.

Le lycée de Bellevue, à Fort-de-France, en Martinique, s’étend sur près de 7 hectares, et propose une vue époustouflante sur la baie des Flamands. Il a été construit à partir des années 1960. Il s’est appelé longtemps « Lycée de Jeunes Filles ». Le Général de Gaulle y a fait un discours en 1964. Il est le plus important lycée de Martinique avec près de 1800 élèves, et de nombreuses formations post-bac (BTS, CPGE). De nombreuses sections et clubs sont proposées aux élèves (sections musique, arts plastiques, sportives, européennes…), et notamment le club BelMUN.

LYCÉE LA PRÉSENTATION DE MARIE, ST JULIEN EN GENEVOIS (FRANCE) LYCÉE NOTRE DAME DES VICTOIRES, VOIRON (FRANCE) Notre Dame des Victoires, is located in Voiron, a small town in the mountains of France. Our school has a kindergarten, a primary school, a secondary school and a high school, where all the students are in frequent contact with each other. Pierre Fourier, the founder of our school, passed on values to educate each young person «To each according to his needs» and to help the pupils become free, responsible and supportive. Numerous clubs are proposed : the newspaper club, MUN, the watchmen (its role is to enable every student to flourish in the school).

The Student Life Council is, for its part, in charge of events such as the Christmas project or the senior prom. Each student can be an actor thanks to his or her investment, develop his or her talents and blossom throughout these years.

Notre Dame des Victoires se situe à Voiron, petite ville de France dans les montagnes. Notre établissement compte une école maternelle, une école primaire, un collège et un lycée où les élèves se côtoient fréquemment. Pierre Fourier, fondateur de notre école a transmis des valeurs d’éducation pour chaque jeune “A chacun selon ses besoins” afin de permettre aux élèves de devenir libres, responsables et solidaires. De nombreux clubs existent au sein de l’établissement : le club journal, MUN,les veilleurs (son rôle est de permettre à chaque élève de s’épanouir dans l’établissement). Le Conseil de Vie Lycéenne est, quant à lui, chargé des évènements comme le projet de Noël, ou le bal des terminales. LYCÉE PIERRE TERMIER, GRENOBLE (FRANCE) Pierre Termier is a general and technological high school which was founded in 1972. Located in the center of Grenoble, it welcomes about 800 students.

The MUN workshop has existed at the Pierre Termier high school for several years and was created by Mrs. Parret, a teacher who is now retired. Since 2018, the workshop, which gathers about 40 students, is managed by Mrs. Clemente, a physical science teacher, supported by Mr. Zevounou, a mathematics teacher in charge of the MUNUCCLE conference, and Mrs. Bouadi, an English teacher in charge of FerMUN, a conference that is very popular with our students and in which we have been participating for almost 10 years with as much pleasure as ever. The school also participates in the MFGNU, the MVNU and organizes its own one-day conference, the MCNU (condensed model of the United Nations).

L’atelier MUN existe au lycée Pierre Termier depuis plusieurs années et a été créé par Mme Parret enseignante maintenant à la retraite. Depuis 2018 l’atelier qui regroupe une quarantaine d’élèves est administré par Mme Clemente, professeur de sciences physiques, épaulée par M. Zevounou, professeur de mathématique en charge de la conférence MUNUCCLE et Mme Bouadi, professeur d’anglais en charge de FerMUN, conférence plébiscitée par nos élèves et à laquelle nous participons depuis bientôt 10 ans avec toujours autant de plaisir. Le lycée participe également au MFGNU, au MVNU et organise sa propre conférence sur une journée le MCNU (modèle condensé des Nations Unies).

LYCÉE SAINT-LOUIS VILLA PIA, BAYONNE (FRANCE) Saint Louis Villa Pia highschool is located in Bayonne, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France. It is a general education school on a human scale in terms of its size which enables students to get off the beaten curricular track in order to get involved in different fields such as sports, humanitarian missions and cultural projects. I was born during the 19th century, installed in the building of an ancient high school organized by the Jesuits in the 16th century. Emperor Napoleon III referred to it as an Imperial High School.

Créé au XIXème siècle dans les murs d’un ancien collège fondé par les Jésuites au XVIème siècle, Napoléon III me nomma alors « Impérial ».

Amid the stunning mountain scenery of the French Alps, near the largest post-glacial natural freshwater lake in France, in full view of majestic pachyderms, Hannibal’s fellow travellers, I have grown up, specializing in languages, theatre and sports.

The minister of Justice Robert Badinter, a famous human rights lawyer who abolished the death penalty in France studied in my place. I was born a Baron on the land of the Princes of Savoy, at the end of the 16th century and I enjoyed studies and dialogue in many languages at the court of the French king Louis XIII. As a great lover of the French language, I was one of the first members of the Académie Française in 1634.

I am a High School located in Savoy, France, where students from the International Section are thinking about a better world, enjoying the sharing of ideas with pupils from all over the world via the Fermun Community.

Niché au cœur de massifs montagneux calcaires enneigés ou verdoyants, à proximité du plus grand lac français d’origine glaciaire, sous les yeux de quatre pachydermes majestueux, compagnons de route d’Hannibal, je me suis développé au gré de restructurations et de la création de nouvelles sections tournées vers les langues, le théâtre et le sport.

J’ai accueilli le ministre de la Justice Robert Badinter, avocat des défenseurs des Droits de l’Homme, connu pour son combat contre la peine de mort dont il défend l’abolition en 1981. Je porte le nom d’un baron né dans les Etats de Savoie à la fin du XVIème siècle, qui appréciait les études et la discussion en plusieurs langues et qui fut interprète auprès du roi Louis XIII. Amoureux de la langue française, je devins l’un des premiers membres de l’Académie française en 1634.

SCHOOL YEAR ABROAD FRANCE, RENNES (FRANCE) The SYA program was created in 1964 by three independent schools in the U.S.A who wanted to grant their students the opportunity to spend a year abroad to learn the language and the culture of the country. SYA is present today in France (Rennes), in Spain (Zaragoza) and in Italy (Viterbo) ; the program closed its doors in China in 2020. In the past, SYA was also present in Germany, in India, in Japan and in Vietnam. SYA operates in its own facilities. The students, all between the ages 15-18, are hosted by local families and come to school to take their classes, most of them in the target language. Math and English are also offered and taught by American teachers. In addition to the classes, the students have the opportunity to travel with the program during the year. The students who participate in SYA receive a full credit from their homeschool and don’t have to repeat the year when they go back.

Since september 2021, there is the possibility for the students who are interested to come for a semester only.

Most students, however, come for the full year.

Le programme de School Year Abroad est né en 1964 de la volonté de trois écoles indépendantes, aux EtatsUnis, d’offrir la possibilité à leurs élèves de passer un an à l’étranger pour y apprendre la langue et la culture du pays. Depuis la rentrée 2021, School Year Abroad propose aux élèves intéressé.es la possibilité de venir pour un semestre. Le programme annuel reste cependant le choix privilégié par la plupart des élèves.

Ceux/Celles-ci ont entre 15 et 18 ans.

CARL-THEODOR-SCHULE SCHWETZINGEN, SCHWETZINGEN (GERMANY) Schwetzingen is located near Heidelberg, a well-known university town. The city of Schwetzingen is known for its famous castle of electoral prince Carl Theodor (17241799). He used the castle as a summer residence. In the hot months he moved his court from Mannheim to Schwetzingen. The palace garden, which was laid out in the 18th century by Nicolas de Pigage, is well-known. The palace garden is still worth a visit today.

At our school there are 5 types of schools with around 1400 students and 120 teachers. The commercial high school is the largest type of school. There are two types of school: the three-year and six-year commercial high school. What is special about this type of school is that we combine general and vocational education at one school.

In addition to their general education, our high school graduates get an early insight into the world of work.

Schwetzingen est situé près de Heidelberg, une ville universitaire bien connue. La ville de Schwetzingen est connue pour son célèbre château du prince électeur Carl Theodor (1724-1799). Il a utilisé le château comme résidence estivale. Pendant les mois chauds, il a déplacé sa cour de Mannheim à Schwetzingen. Le jardin du palais, aménagé au XVIIIe siècle par Nicolas de Pigage, est très connu. Même aujourd’hui, le jardin du palais se doit d’être visité.

A l’école Carl-Theodor il y a 5 types d’écoles avec environ 1400 élèves et 120 enseignants. Le lycée commercial est le plus grand type d’école. Il y a deux filières : l’une débute au collège, l’autre directement au lycée (3 ans d’enseignement). La particularité de ce type d’école est qu’elle combine l’enseignement général et professionnel. En plus de leur formation générale, nos bacheliers reçoivent tôt un aperçu du monde du travail.

ECOLE GRECO-FRANÇAISE KALAMARI, THESSALONIQUE (GREECE) Our school, Kalamari Greek-French School, is located in Thessaloniki, Northern Greece, in the region of Macedonia, the second largest city in Greece after Athens, the capital. Founded by the Catholic Sisters of Saint Vincent de Paul more than 120 years ago, it is now a private school where students (middle and high school), in addition to a Greek curriculum, receive intensive instruction in French and English. Openness to different cultures is essential for a better understanding of others and a better integration in a constantly changing world. We encourage our students to ask questions, to participate, to propose, to act today for tomorrow... Our school takes part in conferences such as FERMUN which we discovered 5 years ago and which has taken a special place in our hearts! Even if the health situation did not allow us to be present in Ferney-Voltaire as we wished this year, we will be there for FERMUN 2023.... L’ouverture vers différentes cultures est essentielle pour une meilleure compréhension des autres et une meilleure intégration dans un monde sans cesse en évolution. Nous encourageons nos élèves à s’interroger, à participer, à proposer, à agir dès aujourd’hui pour demain... Notre école prend part à des conférences comme le FERMUN découvert il y a 5 ans et qui a pris une place particulière dans notre cœur !

MUNITHU GIRLS SECONDARY SCHOOL, MERU (KENYA) We, the Munithu Girls Kenyan Delegation, are pleased to be participating in the online FerMun Conference. This is our third time participating in this event.

We also participated in The NaiMun conference in February 2020. This year we are involved in five committees: ILO representing Japan, Germany and Afghanistan and WHO, representing Japan and Germany. We are looking forward to meeting our fellow delegates and chairs to share our ideas, which we believe will help in providing solutions to the issues highlighted in our committees.

TIRIJI FOUNDATION, MERU (KENYA) Tiriji Foundation is a Non-Governmental Organization whose mandate is to manage and curb the effects of Violence and Poverty. We also support a Children’s Home of 80 children.

La Fondation Tiriji est une organisation non gouvernementale dont le mandat est de gérer et de réduire les effets de la violence et de la pauvreté. Nous soutenons également un foyer pour enfants de 80 enfants.

As a first-time participant in FERMUN, Tiriji is elated to be part of the conference. We encourage our students to find solutions to immediate and global problems. This platform provides our students with tools and knowledge to be creative changemakers. This contributes greatly to solving the policy gaps in Africa

The diversity of the students and staff makes the school a multicultural hub and creates an environment rich in exchanges and experiences.

This diversity is reflected in the multiple career paths of students who go on to Europe, North America, South Africa, Senegal and even China.

The club was created only three years ago; it was immediately developed by the students of the high school who you will find again this year.

LYCÉE FRANÇAIS DE BARCELONE, BARCELONA (SPAIN) The Lycée Pareto is both a scientific and a literary college (high school / gymnasium). The institution has a privileged status because it is the only establishment in Switzerland allowing two diplomas to be obtained directly and simultaneously.
