A hilarious parody of Samuel Beckett’s Waiting for Godot where two unfortunate airline passengers wait at the air gate for a no-frills flight which never arrives. Whether you love low fares travel, or loath flying cattle class, if you’ve ever wasted a day of your life snaking around the airport carpark with 10,000 other people, because there were no airport staff to x-ray your jocks, or been blackmailed into paying excess baggage fees at the gate because one of the wheels of your bag slightly protruded from the baggage sizer, or spent a romantic break stranded in a tiny airfield in the middle of nowhere because the airline lied to you and told you it was a capital city, then this is the comedy for you.
‘Germans will crawl bollock naked over broken glass to see this performance, so get your tickets now before we start acting like a budget airline and quadrupling the price!!’

The King is dead, long live the King… In the aftermath of his father’s death, Hamlet has lost out on becoming the King. He must face not just this loss, but the devastating grief he feels for his father. This grief is sharpened by the rage he feels towards his uncle not only for usurping the crown, but also for trying to position himself as the new father figure in Hamlet’s life. Though rife with betrayal and revenge, the father-son relationship at the core of this strand of Hamlet is as recognisable now as it was in 1600. Following the success of This House is Elsinore at Culture Night 2022, the creative team return to bring you this promenade performance through the non-conventional spaces of the Moat Theatre — where Shakespeare’s text intersects with the fabric of the building, the history of the Moat Club and its members and the echoes of many rehearsals past. Adapted and directed by Lianne O’Shea based on Shakespeare’s Hamlet. Featuring Brian McCarthy and Roseanne Lynch with Pat Kinevane. Including collaboration and performances from the members of the Moat Club. Music, Sound Design and Cinematography by Richard Lennon. Lighting Design by Matt Burke. A Darn Skippy Production. A play by Neil Titley, Starring Will Gowan as Oscar Wilde
Paris, 1898. It is a year since Oscar Wilde’s release from prison in the UK, where, at the height of his fame, he served two years hard labour for ‘gross indecency with men’. Impoverished and in failing health, Wilde stays alone at a dingy hotel in SaintGermain-des-Prés and spends what little money he has on alcohol. ‘This poverty really breaks one’s heart,’ he wrote to his publisher, ‘it is so filthy, so utterly depressing, so hopeless, pray do what you can.’ He was to die two years later, at the age of 46, in exile from his family and his home. In 2017, Wilde was among an estimated 50,000 men who were pardoned in the UK for homosexual acts that were no longer considered offences under the Policing and Crime Act (homosexuality was decriminalised in England and Wales in 1967 and in Ireland in 1993).
‘Titley balances Wilde’s almost dutiful humour with an unsentimental portrayal of his suffering in Reading Gaol, his bitter perception of man’s inhumanity to man. He also captures his character’s dignity in despair and the comedy makes the heartbreak of Wilde’s life even more poignant. It is a most moving effect.’Evening Standard.

The Moat Club presents
Fifty-something Tommy lives in a Dublin bedsit. One night he rescues Aimee, a young prostitute, from a beating on the street. A tentative friendship develops between Tommy and Aimee and the other men in the house. However, trouble crashes into their lives when Aimee’s ex-boyfriend comes looking for her. The Night Alive by Conor McPherson is as relevant today as it was when it premiered in 2013. The events of the play as they unfold in a crumbling Dublin house are magnified by Europe’s refugee crisis and the squabble among governments as to who should take responsibility and give practical help. Directed by All Ireland award-winning director Barbara Sheridan, this sensitive production* of The Night Alive will have you crying and laughing in empathy with the characters.

‘It is ordered that a time of national mourning be proclaimed all amusements be suspended, all theatres and places of public amusement be closed. Anyone refusing will be treated as an enemy of the republic’
It is 1923. Playwright Malachy Sweeney has been thwarted for ten years in his efforts to stage his brand new play. As the Civil War draws to a close, the IRA’s Amusements Order looks like foiling his plans yet again – until he alights on a ‘brilliant’ scheme! Inspired by his hero, WB Yeats – who wins the Nobel Prize in the same year – Sweeney is determined that the show must go on. Performed by just three actors, this satiric comedy set during the concluding moments of the founding decade of the state, sees Sweeney joined by the hard-pressed theatre manager, an ambitious young actress keen to make it in the ‘talkies’, their wealthy supporter and culture impresario and many more, who make up this madcap sideways glance at an alternative 1923. This is the premiere performance of a new play to mark the Decade of Commemorations, written by Gerard O’Shea, directed by Lianne O’Shea.
Proudly supported by The County Kildare Decade of Commemorations Committee & The Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media under the Decade of Centenaries Initiative 2012-23
