Vintage News “Family” Reunion in Princeton — by Scott J. Wakefield

The second in a trifecta of large vintage events continued with Rum River Outlaw Grass Drags in Princeton, Minnesota—aka “Princeton.” A drought year decided to switch gears the weekend of Princeton, and despite that, the Rum River Sno-Riders club was able to pull off a really exciting and fun edition of this year’s event. After taking a year off last year, it was nice to get back to the cozy feel of Princeton, and its uncanny ability to draw vintage and antique vendors and swappers at a great pace. The swap meet was full of great finds, and although races did take place at later times and shortened times, it was nice to see the fine group of racers in attendance. Princeton has that great feel of “family” nestled into the nice pines on an expanse of acreage, located conveniently off US169. It’s remote, but also like a campground away from it all, at the same time. I can’t describe it for you, you’re just going to have to attend yourself.

Left: Still winning awards after all these years. Right: Grab a pair of new slacks and a JCPenney’s sled on the way out the door.

And attend people did, dodging raindrops, and maybe a downpour or two, the crowds were good, enthusiastic, ready to buy and anxious for the new season to start. The MnUSA booth, located perfectly at the edge of the swap and down to the end of Memory Lane, had its fair share of people stop by and inquire about memberships, maps and events.

‘Campground-like’ fun!

Memory Lane had some really nice displays this year, impressive was the Yamaha display this year, and the Rupp display, not just for the large expanse of the display but the really cool sleds in them. Fun was had by all, and I’m looking forward to another “family” reunion next year at the Rum River Sno-Riders Outlaw Grass Drags in Princeton. It will be held the last weekend in August on the 27th and 28th, 2022— put it on your calendar now!
